Standard Build Example Notes Standard Conquest build against a team majority physical.

Sell Gladiator's Shield for Masamune late game. A replacement for boots late game after you buy Elixir of Speed could be Mantle of Discord, Spirit Robe or Magi's Cloak.

Safe Start Notes Standard start to the Solo Lane to rush a mainly tank.
If you want, you can change your Round Shield in a true tier 1 defense, for example Breastplate.

Take some Healing Potions and Multi Potions for some sustain. If you prefer you can take a Chalice of Healing. If you think you need, take some Mana Potions instead multi. If avaliable, Baron's Brews are recommended instead Multi Potions.

If you want to be aggressive, do Mage's Blessing instead of warrior's. If your enemy isn't physical then start with a tier 1 magical defense or buy more potions and start with the blessing only.

Build Item Warrior's Blessing Warrior's Blessing
Build Item Round Shield Round Shield

Defensive Items Notes If your enemy solo is magical, rush one magical defense item and if he is a healer, Pestilence becomes a core item. High recommend that you fit Breastplate of Valor on your build due its cooldown reduction.

Array ( [even] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 94 [display_name] => Achilles [url] => achilles ) [scoreVal] => 3 [notes] => Annoying as fuck with his dash. I personally hate this guy. Just be careful with his ulti, executes are always dangerous. You probably won't die (except for his ulti) but also will be difficult to kill him. ) [1] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 23 [display_name] => Ares [url] => ares ) [scoreVal] => 3 [notes] => His cripple can be a problem. His ult is countered by yours. ) [2] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 63 [display_name] => Bellona [url] => bellona ) [scoreVal] => 3 [notes] => Oh, she is a freaking horse. Be careful early game and when your skills are down. Due your healing you probably won't die if you play right but I won't say that you will win easily. ) [3] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 47 [display_name] => Chaac [url] => chaac ) [scoreVal] => 3 [notes] => Chaac may offer a dangerous early game due his damage and low cooldowns combined with a good sustain, but late game he is just a meat shield applying slow not something to worry about. ) [4] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 40 [display_name] => Chang'e [url] => change ) [scoreVal] => 3 [notes] => It's solo chang'e. That's it. She will be somehow a bit tank, will poke you every sec and can easily shutdown half of your healing just by pressing 3. Be careful. She can also become immune to damage and CC with her 2. ) [5] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 89 [display_name] => Cu Chulainn [url] => cu-chulainn ) [scoreVal] => 3 [notes] => You two are basically rivals. Both have sustain, both have damage and both are tanks. Just be careful when he is transforming at early game. ) [6] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 14 [display_name] => Guan Yu [url] => guan-yu ) [scoreVal] => 3 [notes] => Probably your best counter. Guan Yu cannot be pushed while making cosplay of a fan with his spear neither during his dash so if you get closer he can use both abilities to apply damage on you and make you miss [[fearless]]. Just be careful with his ulti, remember you can use your ulti to get out of hotter situations. ) [7] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 83 [display_name] => Nike [url] => nike ) [scoreVal] => 3 [notes] => You cannot interrupt her 1 with [[fearless]], she is knockback immune. Now with her rework she is quite strong. Remember that if she ultis on you, you can ulti, even in the same place just to get immune to the Slow. ) [8] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 66 [display_name] => Ratatoskr [url] => ratatoskr ) [scoreVal] => 3 [notes] => His high early damage makes him a problem at early stages, when you aren't a full tank. Plus he can easily escape from you. ) [9] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 16 [display_name] => Sun Wukong [url] => sun-wukong ) [scoreVal] => 3 [notes] => He is quite strong too, it's hard to kill due all his mobility. ) ) [minor] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 72 [display_name] => Amaterasu [url] => amaterasu ) [scoreVal] => 4 [notes] => She probably won't die due her sustain + defensive play early game, but also won't be a problem to you until late game, even with her recent buffs. Just be careful with your first levels (until lvl 3) and you probably will be fine. ) [1] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 32 [display_name] => Aphrodite [url] => aphrodite ) [scoreVal] => 4 [notes] => You can try be aggressive with her at early game, but after her first back you probably will find difficulties to kill her. She can play super safe due her healing + good wave clear. Your lane phase will be probably boring 'cause you will not fight nor kill her, but at least won't die for her (unless you do something really stupid). ) [2] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 96 [display_name] => Baron Samedi [url] => baron-samedi ) [scoreVal] => 4 [notes] => Has a push, a root, countered by your skills plus you have much more damage early game and can easily kill him, just be careful with his tower and his healing. ) [3] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 78 [display_name] => Erlang Shen [url] => erlang-shen ) [scoreVal] => 4 [notes] => Due the nerfs erlang doesn't offer the a high threat to tyr 'cause you can push him even on his dash and his basic don't hurt that much anymore. Just avoid fight without your skills. ) [4] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 103 [display_name] => Horus [url] => horus ) [scoreVal] => 4 [notes] => He is annoying due the CC's but isn't a big threat 'cause he doesn't have a high damage. But late game, he is a higher threat for your team than you are for his team due his cooldowns and CC's. ) ) [extreme] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 87 [display_name] => Ganesha [url] => ganesha ) [scoreVal] => 1 [notes] => Moveable silence that is f***ing annoying. He can really be a problem to you ) [1] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 101 [display_name] => Jormungandr [url] => jormungandr ) [scoreVal] => 1 [notes] => Well, it's kinda obviously the reasons but anyway: He can't be affected by movable CC's, and your main source of damage and door to cast your entire combo is what? Yes, A movable CC. So you are not able to cast your entire combo. Also his high damage is a problem to deal with and the AoE basic attacks, that hurts you and wave at the same time. ) [2] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 59 [display_name] => Nox [url] => nox ) [scoreVal] => 1 [notes] => Silence and cripple, two things that really hurts you. ) ) [major] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 90 [display_name] => Artio [url] => artio ) [scoreVal] => 2 [notes] => Her movable cripple can be something really annoying to deal with. ) [1] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 17 [display_name] => Cupid [url] => cupid ) [scoreVal] => 2 [notes] => As long as he has ult he is fucking annoying to deal with ) [2] => Array ( [god] => Array ( [god_id] => 99 [display_name] => King Arthur [url] => king-arthur ) [scoreVal] => 2 [notes] => You are a tank and he probably won't be able to snowball you but if you don't take enough care you will die because he is bronken and HR pretends he isn't. ) ) ) 1

Tips and how to use

Skill Order

"I take no joy in what must be done!" - Tyr

Here I'm going to help you choose what skill you should upgrade first and what is the priority. You can have a: High sustain that is helpful in solo lane on conquest or High damage. I will explain each skill order below.

High Sustain (Recommended to Assault)

Classic Order (Recommended to other modes)

Skill Combos

"I cannot break the law: I am the law." - Tyr

Wave clear (Economic)/Poking the enemy (soft)

This is your simplified combo trying to don't waste mana. Use it on the minions waves to do a good amount of damage and finish with basic attacks. You can also use this to poke your enemy early game.

Wave clear (Complete)

This is your complete combo to clear the wave. Watch out with your mana early game, I strongly recommend you use only this mid/late game or if you get an strong early game solo, capable to clear the wave really fast early on. Use this on the minions waves to do a good amount of damage and finish with basic attacks.

Poking your enemy (Hard)

This combo you will use when you want poke really hard your enemy, but watch out, this combo consumes a good amount of mana!

The ultimate combo

This is your ultimate combo. You can use when you do want to kill someone. You can use Lawbringer to finish the enemy instead of initiate with it.

How to play with Tyr

"Today I am judge, jury, and executioner" - Tyr

Tyr, a good warrior with a good kit, funny and challenger to play at same time. Here I will help you saying how you should play with him, the general gameplay, focused on conquest solo.

If you haven't read the Skills sections right above, I suggest you do it before stars here.

Tyr is an Skill-Based Warrior, so, focus on your skils.

Early Game

  • You will start with Power Cleave to get some early sustain, but no Fearless so you are kind weak early game.
  • Start playing passive and try to stack your blessing while you still level 1.
  • Go to your blue buff (mana buff) to get some XP with you jungler. Remember you are extremely dependent of this buff to become a threat even on early game so pay attention for enemy team don't take it. Ask for your jungler "I need the jungle buff" if he didn't go to do it. Without this buff your early/mid game (strongest phase) will be compromised.
  • Focus on minions and use your simplified combo to kill the minions and only if you need, change the stance and use your heal to avoid waste mana.
  • Try to push your enemy away from his tower, open opportunities for ganks and even to you do more damage on him. If possible throw him inside of your tower :v .
  • Be aggressive. Try to hit your combo on your enemy often taking good part of his life.
  • Watch out your mana! A tyr without mana is like a car without wheels! Without your skill you are just a walking character with 0 threats.
  • Solo lane is usually boring. Usually you will find yourself facing another tank that also don't die or someone playing inside his tower, and you can do nothing except farm. Keep repeating the process trying to hit (poke) your enemy/push him.
  • Fight for your Ku! Fight for the totem of Ku, aside your lane. The MP5 it provides will be EXCELLENT to you, letting you cast your full combos instead of the economic versions due the extra mana you will have.

DON'T BE STUPID, early dive is suicide, prefer to don't try and stay alive instead die trying. Just do it if you are an experienced player and totally knows what you are doing. Invading enemy buffs only if the opportunities open this door to you. DON'T FORGET THE ENEMY SOLO IS NOT ALONE, HE MAY CALL FOR HELP IF YOU ARE ABUSING HIM!!

Mid Game

  • Don't be a walking bot, that pushes only your tower. If you see some opportunities of gank/help, go for it.
  • By this time you should be a little tank and capable of be the frontline. You should also be less dependent of your blue.
  • Now everyone fears you (around lvl 10) because you probably will be a little tank but will still doing an insane amount of damage, so use it at your favor and try to hurt your enemies, just don't be suicide.
  • It's nice make some ganks and start to rotate occasionally.
  • Try to help your ADC/Mid Laner get bigger and tank some objectives such as a tower almost falling or the Gold fury.
  • But don't forget your lane, defend it if necessary.

Late Game

  • Just like most part of other warriors this is when you start to fall.
  • Time to group up.
  • Don't be afraid of be the front line you're a Tyr
  • This is when you are a complete tank and capable of be the frontline.
  • Stay with your team and do the remaining objectives.
  • Tank some objectives if possible, but remember you are not a Nike with a Huge shield to tank whatever she wants, so be careful, mainly in phoenixes and/or the titan.
  • Use your CC to get enemies away from your team OR closer.
  • Also remember you are a tank so you DON'T HAVE enough damage for kill someone alone, so stay with your team.

Builds and Itemization

"A weapon of Justice" - Tyr

How to Build

Now I will talk about of how you should build the lawbringer boy properly, what your build must have to be decent and viable.

how to build

Conquest Solo Build (Looking for a powerful tank?)

bruiser builds (wanna kill and stay alive?)

In this section I will see how some items works on Tyr and their viability in a build to this god.

"Time to enforce the law!" - Tyr

These are items with large cooldown that can help you in the battle or even save you life, so don't forget to get it before go to the battle. Relics are free, but can be upgraded for 500g. Players unlock their first Relic at
level 1, and their second Relic at level 12.

details about the relics

Final Considerations

"The wicked fall before us" - Tyr

So go ahead now
Let's bring law to the battlefield and make justice!!!!

Art by RobCV via DeviantArt

Although Tyr is a medium to hard god to play, you will have a lot of fun and satisfaction playing with him. Practice with a little and when you reach around mastery 3 or 4 you will be very good with him.

If you follow the tips and the builds here I'm sure you'll be AN EXCELENT TYR.

I intend update this Guide as soon as possible keeping it always updated, so check it with some frequency to see the new tips.

Just a curiosity

I'm a bit confused about your skill leveling, Myst. Why do you wait until level 12 to put a point in Change Stance and 17 to put points in Lawbringer?
xmysterionz (49) | March 22, 2019 3:34pm
Change Stance doesn't make a significant difference early game, your base power is more than enough plus you usually are getting some defenses, so max Fearless for damage and Power Cleave for healing first. And about the ulti, I don't use it for damage proposes and as I get cooldowns early on, I feel comfortable to max other skills first.
Hleroklite | February 11, 2019 9:03am
where be hydras
Gulfwulf (66) | February 11, 2019 9:13am
Tyr doesn't get good use out of hydras unless you're talking about duel. Hydra is an assassin's weapon, not a tanky warrior's.
xmysterionz (49) | February 11, 2019 9:26am
Tyr doesn't get a good of Hydra's Lament at all. The guide is focused in solo lane, so I listed items that can be used "outside" and especially "inside" conquest solo. I don't think Tyr can make good use of hydras 'cause his basics seem really slow and he also can't cast a skill and put an AA before casting the next skill like, for example, Ratatoskr does (in a efficient way).

So I personally would never build HL on him, that's why I didn't listed it.
xmysterionz (49) | February 7, 2019 4:41am
Comments below this are from Season 5 and above it Season 6.
(This guide needs a lot of adjustments, I'll take care of this later). Done!
Zagbok | October 10, 2018 12:05pm
I just wanted to say that, that is not Tyrs ultimate combo, but it is not a bad one. Though it you already got some good advice here in the comments.
xmysterionz (49) | October 10, 2018 12:16pm
I called "ultimate combo" just because it uses his ultimate and all 5 skills.
boogiebass (38) | October 10, 2018 2:49pm
Myst, Try this Tyr combo out in jg practice and let me know if its reasonable:
AA stands for auto attack/auto attack cancel
Assault stance with max cdr:

Ideally I would swap the order of Shifters and Void Shield around in the Bruiser build.
xmysterionz (49) | October 10, 2018 12:16pm
Why would you do it?
Kriega1 (87) | October 11, 2018 9:54am
Because Shifter's passive works best in the early game, gives a high amount of power and it's also cheaper than void shield. Void shield's place is fine but Shifter's isn't. Ideally though I would swap Trans for shifters and get another item instead of trans.

Hey, myst.

I was inspired by your guide to start playing Tyr. He seems like a challenging yet rewarding god to play as.

I struggled at first with him, but I am starting to get more familiar and comfortable with him now. Your guide has helped too (you can check my SmiteGuru matches if you're interested).

Some feedback that I recommend would be to include Gladiator's Shield in the build. In my opinion, this is a great item for him that provides essential stats and strong sustain when chaining your abilities.
xmysterionz (49) | August 31, 2018 6:43am
Hey DV-8,
I'm glad to see you were inspired by my guide :)
I was thinking about gladiator and I would do a bridge items section but I forgot about it :v
I will add it, thanks for your feedback ;)
Kriega1 (87) | July 11, 2018 1:44am

Solo Role: No Chalice of Healing listed in your start for some reason, Runic Shield should be present as an option, way too many damage items listed as options (I would only keep Brawler's Beat Stick to be honest. Also don't get Stone of Gaia anymore, it isn't good.

Relics: List Purification Beads as a jungle - ONLY item for Tyr, and also Bracer of Undoing is bad and gets countered very easily by anti-heal.

Can also list Gladiator's Shield as a situational option.

Assassin Builds: Im just going to re-do these and give a start:

Start: Assassin's Blessing, Mace, 2 x Healing Potion.

Build 1: Warrior Tabi, Jotunn's Wrath, Transcendence, Brawler's Beat Stick, Magi's Cloak, Titan's Bane.

Build 2: Warrior Tabi, Jotunn's Wrath, Transcendence, Hydra's Lament, Mantle of Discord, Titan's Bane.

Also I really don't recommend Soul Eater on Tyr.

Bruiser build is ok but build order can be improved: Warrior Tabi, Transcendence, Jotunn's Wrath, Shifter's Shield, Ancile, Void Shield.

Alternative Build: Warrior Tabi, Jotunn's Wrath, Brawler's Beat Stick, Ancile, Masamune, Void Shield.

Another Alternative build: Warrior Tabi, Jotunn's Wrath, Transcendence, The Crusher, Magi's Cloak, Mantle of Discord.

And lastly, your introduction banner/image thing says "introduciton" and not introduction.
boogiebass (38) | July 11, 2018 8:26am
You like the trans on tyr?
DV-8 (23) | July 11, 2018 10:50am
Kriega1 (87) | July 11, 2018 9:57am
Only for Tyr jungle. But then again it may depend on if you're building high power or bruiser. I don't really see many Tyr jungles (I don't think i've seen any this season, maybe 1 but even then im not sure).
xmysterionz (49) | July 11, 2018 5:54am
Thanks for your feedback.
Chalice of Healing is listed in build description but not at the beginning. Fixed.
Power options reduced.
Stone of Gaia is a good item, but maybe too much situational, it will be changed.
Gladiator's Shield will be listed as a bridge item sooner.
With the Assassin build does not mean I want to make a Jungler build. It's just a full damage build to people have fun in Arena or Clash or even in Joust. If someone wants a Tyr jungle of course he will do Assassin's Blessing and Mace cause it's the standard start for most part of skill-based junglers. Maybe late I think about make some mentions to jungle with him later.

Alternative builds are specific builds for some situations and I will added it later for all 3 cases (Solo builds, Damage builds and Bruiser Builds) ;)
boogiebass (38) | July 10, 2018 1:15pm
Hey myst. Just some constructive criticism.

For your solo build, i think there are better options than genjis guard and stone pf gaia. The solo laner should split responsibility with the support. So like bran mentioned, pestilence would be preferred to genji.

For your damage/bruiser builds, i dont know how i feel about transcendence on tyr. But i like the other options you listed.
xmysterionz (49) | July 10, 2018 1:27pm
Transcendence is awesome on Tyr, at least for me :p.
Nice power scale for skills and huge mana pool and cooldown. Everything you need in a Tyr assassin or bruiser. But you can change it if you don't want it. What item do you recommend to me instead Transcendence?

Trans can work on a Jungle build. He's got good scaling on his damage abilities, and even his healing scales. In the Jungle, he won't have the benefit of the mana buff, so he'll also appreciate the mana pool.

Fearless in assault stance has 50% power scaling per hit (100% totsl). The only thing that has good scaling is his ult.

But yea, id just recommend another penetration item (youve listed plenty of alternatives)

But i mean, if you like transcendence, then more power to you. Ive never built it on him before.

So you're NOT done with SMITE =P

Some comments:
  • For your starts, you do cover things pretty well. One standard start would be what you list, but I'd also add in the possibility of getting Chalice of Healing to go with the Blessing and Shoes. Mentioning Baron's Brew if it's available is also good. And then you do also give the option to start with a T1 protection item..

  • Say you're facing a physical lane you get Breastplate of Valor 2nd as shown. Your 3rd item in your example is okay, but I think in many cases, Pestilence in that position would be a more commonly used item. With the mana buff and the 20% CDR from BoV, you don't need to worry quite as much about mana regen, and the mana buff also gives 10% in many cases, I feel that although okay, Pestilence is often the better pickup compared to Genji's Guard. You do have good options overall for the various items.

  • I think Stone of Gaia is okay, but don't know if I'd use it as an item in my main example build. Yes, the HP5 is great, but he does have healing in his kit. It's not the same thing exactly, sure, but I think even something like Midgardian Mail might be a better standard example. Just my opinion though.

  • I think an early Gladiator's Shield (instead of BoV) should be an option for the early game, to be replaced late-game of course.

  • If you do get Masamune, remember you can also consider replacing Warrior Tabi with something like Witchblade.

  • I'm not a Tyr player, but your skill leveling looks a little wonky. Normally, after getting a point into both, you'll either concentrate on Fearless or Power Cleave, rather than alternating every other level. I honestly hate playing Tyr, so I'm curious to hear others' thoughts on this.

It's just a pre alfa build I will consider all your thoughts. Gladiator's Shield will come in section in builds as bridge item, just calm down man, it's just an early build :v
About stone and Pestilence I will test and offer different options, same for Midgardian Mail.

Just suggestions for this version of the guide. Your options are fine, especially since it's just an example, but I always feel presenting the best general build as the example is good to do...but of course, most of these item options will be situational to the matchup.
