Introduction!

Welcome to My Guide to playing Awilix! I hope you enjoy it thoroughly. My general alias is Estidien, my real name is Jeffrey, and my IGN is Salad and over the course of my Smite career, I have gotten consitantly strong results with Awilix, hopefully I can share some of the methods of playing her that I use with you all. It's important to note that this guide (And all my other guides) are not quick reads and really get into the Nitty Gritty of how to play the God/Goddess, if you think the guides I write would really benefit from a TL;DR section please leave a comment below or send me a private message explaining your thoughts, enough attention will definitely get me to write one.

If you downvote or have any critiques on this guide PLEASE leave a comment below so I can constantly do things to make this guide better, and perhaps earn your favor back! :)

Also if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask me either on this guide's comments section (I CHECK IT DAILY!). Or send me a message in game and I'll be more than happy to help you. I didn't write this guide just to abandon it and let people that might be confused try to decipher some of what I write.

Patch Updates!

This section will be used to post any changes Hirez makes to Awilix as new patches are released. Currently since this is a freshly coded guide there are no new changes to report.

About Awilix (SUMMARY)

In Smite Awilix is a powerful Ability Based Assassin with a lot of emphasis on burst and utility. She boasts exceptionally high mobility thanks to her Summon Suku skill which allows her to move forward at increased speed and enables her to leap over many walls. Awilix also benefits from an extended basic attack range of 16 (4 Units higher than other gods) but a shortened basic attack width.

The core elements of Awilix's kit are made to allow her to maintain positional dominance over an opponent, whether it be manually re-positioning them, Managing their escapes, re-positioning herself or just outrunning her targets. All things considered she is designed to give herself the upper hand and then maintain said upper hand through quick decision making and finesse.

This isn't to say that this is all that Awilix excels at, she also has a significant amount of burst with her Feather Step and some pretty nasty CC/Damage chain combos that I will touch up on later in the guide.

In my opinion, two of the most important parts of Awilix's repertoire is her extended basic attack range which can be used and abused to your advantage when boxing opponents and catching targets. But also her powerful passive, Initiative, which gives her killing potential a significant boost if she starts fights on her own terms.

Pros / Cons

PROS
- High Maneuverability
- High burst damage
- High Outplay Potential
- Close range ability avoidance
- High Mobility
- Extended Basic Attack Range
- Powerful pursuit
- Strong early game camp clear.
CONS
- Countered by Crippling abilities
- Extremly high mana consumption if you aren't careful
- Personal Combos are difficult to carry out
- She has hard cc but it's difficult to land
- Defensive Comps CAN Shut her Down Hard

Play matches, and not against AI.

Though the new "Hard" AI are really good for newbies practice. The bots are ulting and combining skills reasonably, so you might start with bots on Hard if you are completely new to mobas then move to the real matches.

"Your sample build" (Is this the create-a-build thing but for new players, and the second page is your recommended sample builds?) sample build lists Spirit Robe, but I thought Spirit Robe is generally built in tankier builds so you can take advantage of the passive? Wouldn't you just be better off building Mantle of Discord instead?
1
Devampi (105) | May 23, 2019 8:20am
Do I understand right that spirit robe passive is bonus mitigation (so if you take 500 damsge and mitigate 100 of it you instead mitigate 115?)
Or does it just flat out mitigate 15% of the incoming damage
1
Kriega1 (143) | May 23, 2019 8:28am
It's true mitigation. It ignores pen.

"Or does it just flat out mitigate 15% of the incoming damage" - Yes.

Salad, some questions and comments.
  • Firstly, not looking for you to blast me XD, but I also wonder about getting an early AS item like The Crusher, not just in a left-clicker build, but in many builds in general. Typically as you state, you start with T1 (Mace) + Blessing + potions (also, Mace now costs 700 gold, so you can only get 2 potions to start, not 3). I was playing around in jungle practice with her last night (which also spawns another comment that will follow), but from what I can tell, if you go for Crusher after completing Tabi, it gives you enough AS to confirm 2 basics on an enemy if you immediately attack after the knockup from Moonlight Charge. It also will help speed clear just a bit in the earlier portions of a game...quicker to the 2nd hit for earlier use of Feather Step, for example.

In addition, yes the 20% CDR from getting Jotunn's Wrath 2nd is going to be great for any engagement, but Feather Step is one of those abilities with a pretty damn short CD (8 seconds). I won't argue that if you engage and force the enemy to run, having it back up in 6.5 seconds can be extremely helpful, but...again, just wondering. None of your build examples show Crusher 2nd...and for example, in your "glass power" build, it might function pretty well before getting Trans, since Trans can be functionally built a bit later than the traditional 1st/2nd place in most builds (not Jungle though). (Wondering though how many problems you'd have in this from mana issues so there's that...)

  • Now the reason for me going into Jungle practice to begin. I was (again) reading through your guide in preparation for playing her more, and one thing Marki (BestMinionEver) did in his Ne Zha guide was talk about the attack structure for clearing the camps most efficiently with Universe Ring Toss. Here's the section:

    Marki's jungle clear explanation

From playing around, at level 1/2, what it seems to me to be most efficient is to attack each small minion once, then use Feather Step. At level 1 (without the Speed camp clear help from the Mid), each small minion might take one more basic, and I've never understood how some people (when watching gameplay sometimes) keep attacking the big minion when the smalls would only take 1 more hit. Each additional hit where you don't clear the smalls is more damage you're incurring, and so I'd think you'd just finish those first, you know?
Anyway, looking forward to your feedback.
1
Devampi (105) | May 7, 2019 10:39pm
Same bran it's a weird force of habit for some to only hit the big minion. Same goed for LoL with a non AoE clearer (apart from fiddlesticks)
1
Estidien (30) | May 7, 2019 4:38pm
One thing I suppose I should clarify that 3/4 of the mace items are perfectly rush-able depending on the situation. The Crusher is perfectly viable if you're looking for some early attack speed and extra damage. One of the reasons I love Awilix so much is that there isn't one true way to do it. With some slight playstyle adjustments there are tons of viable and efficient builds for her.

I could write up 20 build examples easy and plenty would include The Crusher being rushed or second. However, I tried to keep thing simple for newer players and include 4 fairly different builds.

For Jungle clear I have a VERY VERY specific attack rotation. I only use the 2nd hit on the rotation on smalls (Aside from the level 1 clear which is a bit different in the start). In the start I do Small Minion Basic - Large Minion Basic - Feather Step (This kills small minion A) - Small minion basic (This kills small minion B) - Murder Large Minion.

I don't understand why the "left clicker" has executioner. Stone cutting and crusher is enough pen for squishies.

Thank god you finally removed the crit builds.

Also no Runeforged?
2
Estidien (30) | April 28, 2019 3:02pm
Okay I usually stay outa your messes but when you're dragging yourself into my guide I'm gonna answer your question in a similar manner to which you seem to enjoy treating everyone else here.

1) How do you not understand why I included an item that increases attack speed, power and penetration in a build called "the left clicker"? If you dont understand you must have a clear lack of understanding for how Awilix works, not to mention the purpose behind the build. Also you said it yourself "The build without that item has enough pen to deal with squishies". So idk... maybe we add that in so we can tackle the tankier enemies too. Cuz #logic.

2) Don't know what your malfunction is here, crit is still fine on her I just have not gotten around to readding builds with it as an option in section 2. I personally do not run it often on her anymore but that does not change the viability in her basic attack rotation.

3) You musta just missed this one, runeforged is in both the item's section and the item options/descriptions section.

Seriously dude, I'm a multiple time #1 ranked Awilix on the leaderboards when I actually put myself on them and before those leaderboards were a thing I had the Top KDA, GPM and WLR on her in ranked... in the world. If it is in my guide, it has been playtested and deemed viable by a top ranked player, not just something I pulled out of my ***. So unless you have actual logic based questions or constructive criticism, please keep your comments out of my guide. I'm more than happy to explain my choices but I'm not gonna have you causing discord in my comments section like you seem to cause on so many other guides.

What, calling out bad builds by people who don't have a basic understanding of game mechanics and/or a god's kit is mistreating someone? And you say "enjoy" like im sort of sadist and not like it's not out of necessity?

So do you just never have a relevant ADC or Mid laner in your matches that you have to resort to building exe on Awilix? Can’t just build ichaival or Asi or something other than exe in a AA-focused Build? (That doesen’t specify anti-tank like another one of the listed builds) I mean, you say Awilix is a hybrid, what about Nemesis? (Yes she has her ult, but that’s 1 target, and it’s on ult cooldown) how often would you get Executioner on her?

Guide has recently received a major update. Please provide feedback.
1
boogiebass (46) | April 28, 2019 3:54pm
Ok. I'm not in any position to give you actual gameplay based feedback, so my 2 cents will all be aesthetic.
1) What do you think about separating power items into AA and ability based. Example: The Executioner and Qin's Sais vs. ability focused like Hydra's Lament.
2) Separating full defensive items from hybrid items. May make it slightly easier for readers to get an idea of itemization.
1
Estidien (30) | April 28, 2019 3:59pm
Good idea, hadn't really thought about it. I'll do something like that when I update for Horus and Set
1
Branmuffin17 (394) | April 12, 2019 12:31pm
I still think the pinkish lavender text color is a bit on the bright side...the softer/grayer color of that fancy detail might be a bit easier on the eyes. That's nitpicky of course.

So I always like discussions on how to play, especially if you're behind and need to take in specific considerations. One thing that popped into my head when reading late-game if you're behind is the turtling concept. With the S6 changes and considerations that you can continue to increase your build's strength with the shoes replacement/elixir, extending the requirement for $$$ a few minutes further than before, is it just about turtling, or is it about strategies you want to do WHILE turtling...mainly baiting and trying to get the enemy to overcommit/overextend?

I didn't re-read most of your matchups sections, but I happened to open up Ullr, and you said possibly try to save Feather Step until you see him try to use his axe stun. How good of twitch reaction do you need to pull that off at basically point-blank range???

In Assault, I might suggest a different path. I know it's not nearly an important part of your guide, but I'd say if you have a god with a knockup, you might go Jotunn's Wrath at the start so you can get more ult pulls. And a main strat for if you want to actually play her in Arena or Joust is to plan ahead, again with a god that can knockup. Sorry, I'm having flashbacks of you and freaking boogie/Jor. FU.

The amount of accurate detail and in-depth information keeps this guide as the crowning achievement of all Assassin/god guides IMO.
1
Estidien (30) | April 13, 2019 11:21am
I'll answer this in chunks. We'll start with turtling. If you're at a point where you need to turtle you're at a pretty significant disadvantage. With that being said you usually want to delay major fights. If someone screws up alone or overextends you should definitely take the opportunity to collapse. But you should really be looking to close the advantage gap as even if the enemy is playing a bit reckless they may still be able to overwhelm your team with the advantage. You really want to tocus on stalling rather than countering. Not to say if an opportunity arises you shouldnt take it.

Kriega, Estidian isn't your typical smitefire author who intentionally creates a troll build and never logs back in.
He understands the game, and I'm sure he's more than willing to have a civil discussion with you about his build choices. If you have a doubt, just ask.

Hey Estidian, guide is looking good man. Just a few questions:

1) For the auto attack build, what do you think about replacing jotunns with stone cutting and trans with hydras? I feel you would get more out of AA cancelling with the scs and hydras. The hydras and deathbringer combo would be pretty strong too.

2) For the harrassment build, why hastened katana? Not quite sure what the main goal of the build is.

Otherwise, great guide man. Please stop by smitefire more often.
2
Estidien (30) | November 13, 2018 4:32pm
Hey Gary! Sorry for the delay on response. To answer your questions now...

1) I'm assuming you talking about Fun with Crits for this one. To start please be aware that every build in this guide are just samplers to get the ball rolling for players that are new. More experienced players would I hope be reading the jungling builds section for explained ideas and the items section for information on the items I oft recommend. To explain my reasoning behind those lineups is that I'm still a sucker for the extra CDR to cycle combos in extended fights and teamfights.

2) Hastened Katana is actually a really good item on Awilix in the right situations. It's certainly not something I would build "often" however. With the way Awilix's basic attacks are she's super potent for melee kiting. It also allows her to secure kills especially from ahead using little to no part of her kit and allowing her to cycle targets easily.

So I was wondering. I know this guide gets a reasonable amount of traffic. Would everyone rather me further this guide adding other roles and game-modes? Or postpone those updates and work on a new guide for a god/dess in need?
1
Branmuffin17 (394) | March 20, 2018 12:54am
I would personally suggest fleshing out your top build area a bit. Nothing crazy like what you had before, but core recognition and key options.

Then just keep that updated and start on a new, maybe simpler guide on a God that's in the meta but doesn't have a guide right now.
1
Estidien (30) | March 22, 2018 10:44pm
Cmon Bran you know I don't do simple, but I gotcha. I'll put some of my larger updates on hold and start on another god. The question is now... Which one am I gonna tackle?

So...do you mean that literally, figuratively, or perjoratively (yes I know that's not quite a word).

Also, almost, sort of? Should I or should I not pick this up? I'm so confused... XD

Just picking on you. FYI though, your writeup on the 2 blessings are confusing. You basically say pick both up but you can't. When would you pick up mage's over assassin's?

Good catch, that bit was leftover text I forgot to save over from before when those 2 items were Bumbhas and Bluestone, It's fixed now. When I copied everything over from my archive (Preview for Updates) version of this guide, I forgot to do the final save on the archived one so when I went back to copy, it had reverted.

So after reading your guide (first time a long time ago), I've always had an interest in playing her, but knew I'd probably suck...she's definitely got a higher skill ceiling, and I'm pretty much in the basement, hahaha.

That said, read up on your guide again, and finally played her (by choice, not by rolling randomly in Assault)...played a Siege match with Taco (***bha), GGF (SWK), and Pappsi (Nu Wa). It didn't end well for us, but it was definitely fun to play her.

I used your old build that you now title as good for beginners... Warrior Tabi, Jotunn's Wrath, Breastplate of Valor, Stone Cutting Sword, Bulwark of Hope, and was building toward The Crusher (because we still needed to take down a few of their objectives).

Tried to remember the combos, but damn if I didn't land even one Ult...I guess I need to go into Jungle Practice. I did remember to try for two basics before using her 2, but ugh...bad at the combos. Just not natural for me. I'm going to play her again sometime, but I'll wait for Taco to forget that game...I told him it was my first real time playing her, and that I kept screwing up the combos, and he (jokingly...I think) said...Bran, we're going to have a talk after this...lol!

Anyway, it's awesome when a guide makes you WANT to play a god (even if you're scared to). Yours definitely does.

The one thing I will say on the flipside is that you now have SO MANY builds...it's a bit too convoluted for me to look through each one. Any way to possibly simplify a bit?

I'd upvote, but I upvoted a long time ago, so...good job.

Hey Branmuffin17. I'm glad my guide got that response out of you!! And I'm actually just experimenting with this layout. I'm testing out a whole new guide layout with my up and coming Ymir Guide when it comes to how I explain the builds, I'm going to include an entire section of the guide to explaining the builds.

However I would like your input on one thing assuming you end up reading this comment. With that being said should I also consider reworking my 2 "Build-A-Build" sections as well as making an explained build list. I realize my "Make your own Awilix build" strategy was pretty popular but I also think people might get better information if I just include a whole bunch of builds and explain what they're good for. I'm definitely looking for input this time from the community. My Awilix guide is a mess right now, currently in the middle of a recode and redesign and I'm trying to figure out what approaches I would like to take.

Hey dude, okay, so um...this guide is definitely in transition, lol!

I think it all depends on how much of your various builds share some key items. Are ALL of those builds you have truly viable? If some are really more of a "fun" type, I might put those on the backburner or title them as such, later in the build list.

In the same train of thought, if some of those are extremely situational, I might take those out and just have a small section talking about the situational items, when they're good choices, and where you'd insert them in a standard build.

If they're all viable in different circumstances...dude, seriously, I've never seen so many builds!!!!!!

I'd suggest putting the build you say is considered most meta as the first build...but if that's not the variant you personally prefer, I'd put your preferred one first.

In the end, you just have so many builds right now, it's hard to say how this would be best presented. So my main points stand...
  • Take out non-essential builds
  • If you've got a core that's usually the same (e.g. Warrior Tabi, Jotunn's Wrath as first 2), use those, and list all variants and situational items below those.

Thing is, this is a guide, not an engineering template for a specific item. You are a crazy high level player, and you alter your builds to each match's unique situation with crazy precision. So, unless you have a specific build that is just never changing, give the reader the base that's essential, give them a couple of examples for the most common complete builds, list the situational items together perhaps (or split into categories as you see fit), and then explain in detail in the body of the guide.

Anyway, that's my opinion. You're too high level for me, and my head's gonna explode from your variety! LOL.
