The passive should activate even against minions, and provide you with increased physical protections. However, the protection reduction will NOT affect normal minions to increase your damage against them.
They WILL affect the Pyro, Gold Fury, Fire Giant, and Titan.
The nice thing about SCS is that, if you get jumped while you're clearing a camp or hitting minions, you'll have built up your protections so start off with that advantage, even before you hit the enemy god.
The reason im asking this is cuz i noticed i do more damage to minions after hitting once or twice with scs. Which doesn't make sense to me cuz, according to u, minions dont have protections.
May have just been my imagination. Need to double check.

Instead they have damage reduction that reduces all damage taken, including true damage, that increases over time. This means that a god's penetration stat has no impact on how much damage they deal to the minions, and caps the lifesteal that can be taken from a basic minion. Lane minions will reward an additional 5 Experience and .5 Gold every 3 minutes and these rewards accumulate over time."
I saw someone bringing up the idea of splitting physical items between melee and ranged characters, but the response from Hirez was that it'd "kill build variety" (as if it was an actual thing)- guess they won't bother with applying such changes just to one item.
