Introduction

Hello everyone! My name is Vini, I'm a casual Smite player, and this is my first guide! I've been playing Smite for around 5 months now, and I think it's finally time for me to contribuite to the community in some way. I'm both excited to share my small knowlege of the game and scared that I'll say something wrong and get downvoted into oblivion by the community :D. Anyway, let's begin.

For my first guide I chose Nike, Goddess of Victory, because she's one of my favorite warriors to play and I want to change the community's perception about her, since the majority of the playerbase thinks that she's boring to play. She's not, I promise :D

"Trust in me, and I will grant you victory!" - Nike

In this guide, I'm going to explore Nike as a solo laner, going through her strengths, weaknesses, abilities, combos, builds, goals as a solo laner and general tips.

I'm not going to cover Conquest general strategies and tactics, since I'm focusing on the goddess' mechanics and specificities. However, if you want a in-depth Conquest guide, you can check Bramuffin's Guide: The Overarching Conquest Guide

WHO IS NIKE?

Nike is an ability-based frontline warrior that can tank lots of damage for her team, while harassing and disrupting the enemy team. Keep in mind that her playstyle is very similar to a support, in a sense that her focus is to take damage, disrupt the enemy and assist her teammates. She's not a goddess that deals a lot of damage or that has a lot of kill potential like Bellona or Erlang Shen, but she's pretty similar to Horus and Guan Yu.

..... PROS .....

• Strong teamfight presence;
• Good clear (If not interrupted);
Sentinel of Zeus can swing teamfights in your favor and makes you hard kill;
• Cleave autos;
• Good mobility with Valiant Leap.
..... CONS .....

• Long cooldowns;
• Very tanky, but low damage output;
• Two channeled abilities that can be shut down;
• "Lose lane, win game" type of god;
To Victory! went from the best to the worst passive in the game.

Latest Update
• 09/03/2020 - Version 3.1 - Guide updated for Patch 7.3, "Grim Omens". Removed Pridwen and shifted some items around. Updated pros and cons. Updated credits section.
Changelog

Abilities

To Victory!
Description: Nike sets three goals that the team can achieve to gain increased strength. Upon completing a goal, Nike's team gains a Laurel that increases Power and Movement Speed. This Laurel can increase up to 3 times.

Overview: Arguably the best worst passive in the game, To Victory! can boost the power and movement speed of your entire team. However, it needs to be achieved before you gain the benefits, something that only happens mid to late game.

Rend
Description: Nike slams the ground three times, sending out fissures that deal damage. If a target is hit twice, that target loses protections for 5 seconds. If a target is hit three times, that target is disarmed. Nike is immune to Knockback for the duration.

Overview: Nike's primary source of damage and her clear ability. Keep in mind that despite being immune to knockups, you can still be interrupted with stuns and silences.
Fun fact: Before the Rework, Rend had only two strikes, and had to be paired with Plan of Action to get a third strike.

Barrier Formation
Description: Nike conjures a protective barrier in front of her that blocks ranged Basic Attacks. While focused on the barrier Nike's ability to turn is limited. Enemies who get near the barrier are repelled. At any point, Nike can re-fire the ability to collapse the barrier and deal damage to enemies in front of the barrier.

Overview: This ability can be used to block enemy attacks, repell enemies and push minions. During the laning phase, you should use this ability to block enemy clear (if against a ranged enemy) and to push minions to finish them off with your cleave autos. During teamfights, you can lockdown carries with the barrier, protecting your team and zoning the enemy while you absorve all their damage.

Valiant Leap
Description: Nike leaps into the air, then crashes down at a location dealing damage and knocking up enemies.

Overview: This ability can be used both for offense and escape. If you land straight into the enemy, you will knock them up in the air, locking them in place for a brief moment that can be enough to secure the kill.
You can also use it to clear minions that you grouped together with Barrier Formation.
Lastly, Valiant Leap can be used to jump over walls and player-made objects, like Odin's Ring of Spears and Cabrakan's Tectonic Shift.

Sentinel of Zeus
Description: Nike transforms into an armored sentinel and sends out a shockwave that damages and slows enemies around her. While in this form, she gains a percentage of her max health as a shield that lasts for 10 seconds..

Overview: During the laning phase, you can use your ultimate to counter an enemy gank, since it grants you extra health and slows enemies. During teamfights, you can use Sentinel of Zeus to dive into the enemy team and apply a slow to all enemies, while becoming extremly hard to kill and zoning people with Barrier Formation.
Keep in mind that Sentinel of Zeus also makes Nike CC-Immune, so you can counter ults like No Escape, Paolao and The Wild Hunt.

Builds

Unlike most Hunters/ADCs and Mages/Mid Laners, there isn't a "cookie cutter" build for Warriors/Solo Laners. Solo builds are very game dependent and you have to evaluate a lot of things, like your direct opponent is, who the enemy jungler is, how many physical/magical gods the enemy team has, if they have a lot of CC, if they have AA-based gods or if they have gods with heavy burst, if the enemy ADC is building crit or pen, etc.

To start this section, I'm going to present my favorite build for Nike, the one I use most of the time and have most success with. Then, I'm gonna cover possible starting items, since she has multiple strategies to start her game/build. And finally, I'm gonna go over all of the items I consider viable for her, so you can have a better undestanding and make your own decisions when it comes to building and counter-building.

Conclusion

Well, I guess that was everything I wanted to cover. I'm so happy that I was able to finish this guide, since I had a lot of formatting issues and thought about giving up several times :p. But now it is here! I hope my explanations were clear and the way I formatted the guide makes the navigation smooth and easy to be done.

As always, I'm open to feedback. If you have any comments to do about presentation, builds or any other topic, don't be afraid to leave a comment so we can discuss about it. I want my guide to be as clear and informative as possible.

I also hope that I was able to change your perception about Nike, at least to make you interested in playing her. However, if you're still not convinced, let me show you historical footage of the first Smite player who reached Maestry 10 with her:

ENJOY!

I think your anti-crit build goes Spectral a little too early, I would swap Breastplate's and Spectral's places around. Any ADC that sees spectral third on Nike would just immediately go into qins build, while a delayed spectral would increase the chances that they're go deeper into a crit build, especially if they not aware how good spectral is or don't think it will be built.
1
Vini_sds (13) | March 19, 2020 12:26pm
You are correct. Delaying BoV would screw your already weak laning phase, due to the lack of CDR.

Also, you wouldn't benefit from Spectral unless you were facing a hunter building, say, Deathbringer first item in solo.

Originally I built both Nemean and Spectral together, but Spectral kinda nerfs Nemean since the reflected damage will be reduced.

Edit: Already changed the build order. Thanks.
1
Kriega1 (143) | March 19, 2020 12:30pm
Nemean is pretty bad right now, especially if you don't get thorns since the main reason to build Nemean was with Thorns relic.

I personally am not a big fan of gladiators on her after it got updated since her 1 hits 3 times and you only get half the heal for subsequent hits when I need some sustain I go for Gaia especially if they have a knockup or grab like tyr or herc
1
Vini_sds (13) | March 19, 2020 12:22pm
If you read Gladiator's Shield's passive description, it says:

Quoted:
This can only trigger once per ability.

Nike's Rend never triggered Glad's passive more than once per enemy god hit. If you hit each Rend attack on a different enemy, you're going to heal because it's a different enemy being hit, not because each individual hit procs Glad Shield's passive.

With that said, yes, it's still the preffered option for Nike, unless the enemy can interrupt Rend/ Barrier Formation, in which case you should go into Berserker's Shield for sustain, but never get Stone of Gaia on anyone lol.
1
Kriega1 (143) | March 19, 2020 11:06am
It doesen't matter if you get half the heal, it still heals multiple times for hitting multiple targets, her 2 can proc it, her 3 can proc it, and her ult can proc it.

And Glad Shield is 1700 gold, while Gaia is 2250 gold. Glad Shield is a lot more easier to rush on Nike, plus has a little power and some CDR. Gaia is just health/HP5, plus the first passive isn't that useful even if you proc it cause it's only once every 45 seconds. The second passive only heals 6% of your max health after 20 seconds.

Gaia also gets heavily screwed by antiheal and pretty much loses it's healing capability lategame assuming the enemy team builds properly. Plus Glad Shield is easier to sell lategame too with it's cheaper price as I already mentioned, while Gaia sets your build slightly behind since it's more expensive.

For health there's better options.
1
Vini_sds (13) | March 19, 2020 12:23pm
Fun fact: Anti-heal don't affect HP5 effects, so Gaia doesn't get affected by it.
Still, it's a terrible item to be built.

Guide updated for Patch 7.3, "Grim Omens". Removed Pridwen and shifted some items around. Updated pros and cons. Updated credits section.

@Myst: Hey, your name is green now!

@Kriega: I added an example build with Heartseeker and Brawler's Beat Stick, despite not being a fan about it. Let me know what you think.

@Bran and @crimenfo: Removed Pridwen as requested. Breastplate of Valor is back into play, boys.
1
Kriega1 (143) | March 19, 2020 12:35pm
Wouldn't necessarily go both Heartseeker and Beatstick in same build, latter would be priortised if it's needed. I mean the build is fine, but I meant picking up Heartseeker in general as like a glad shield or boots replacement.

xmysterionz (71) | March 19, 2020 12:35pm
Thanks

crimenfo | March 9, 2020 8:57am
Pridwen doesn't work with Nike ult. Why would you ever build it?
1
Vini_sds (13) | March 9, 2020 9:10am
It's not working with her ult at the moment, but it used to.
I kept it for two reasons:

1. I hope they'll fix this bug with 7.3;
2. You need at least 30% CDR on her by the end of the game.
1
crimenfo | March 9, 2020 9:20am
I didn't play Smite last two seasons. And first thing I wanted to try when I returned was Pidwen on Nike. It was disappointing. And looks like it doesn't work for a long time now, at least 6 months, so I won't hope it will be fixed at all.
Btw, nice guide.

UPD. The fact that Pridwen is in her popular itam list, most guides consider it in build, and ppl are building it in current patch was really confusing for me as a returning player.

Where's heartseeker
1
Vini_sds (13) | March 7, 2020 12:25pm
Not a good item for her, IMO.
1
Kriega1 (143) | March 8, 2020 5:09am
Why not? She has 4 damaging abilities. Her 1 can hit three times (Assuming you're not focusing one target for poke or disarm, and 1 hit on 3 different enemies will proc Heartseeker), her ult is AoE, and her 2 can be detonated quickly to multiple enemies in front of her.

I mean you list Masamune but won't list Heartseeker? Also no Brawlers?

The best guide I've seen on this site. Informed. Detailed. Brilliant. I'm new to Smite and was loving this hero (coming from Paragon she feels a lot like my main Serath) but had no idea how to build her. I haven't lost a game with her since finding this guide. Kudos Vini_sds

Whats your thoughts on Glad shield if your lane opponent can't interrupt Rend and you want something thats better for teamfights?
1
Vini_sds (13) | May 14, 2019 6:14am
Tl;dr: It's not worth it.

When I first started playing Nike, Glad Shield was the first item I used to build on her due to CDR and sustain in lane. But I did some testing back in the day and found out that Glad's passive only procs on the first Rend hit. So I abandoned Glad and went for Soul Eater (which I also already dropped).

Recently I asked fineokay and Deathwalker about both shields (Glad and Berserker's) on Nike.
Deathwalker said that Glad isn't worth it because you can only reliably proc the passive on 2 of her abilities: Rend and Sentinel of Zeus (he said that Valiant Leap is too unpredictable to be considered), and that Berserker's is pretty good on her due to her cleaves.
fineokay, on the other hand, said that Glad is useful on her, because you can proc the passive with all of her abilities, including the bonus damage from Plan of Action. I found it strange and tested it, but it really doesn't proc with Plan of Action. He also said that Berserker's was viable.

So, to answer your question: It doesn't matter if your lane oponnent can interrupt Rend or not, Glad's passive will only proc on the first hit. It doesn't proc on Plan of Action and Valiant Leap can't really be considered. Finally, it procs on Sentinel of Zeus, but for it to be worth, you'd had to hit more than one enemy, something that won't happen that often during the laning phase. And when it comes to teamfights your starter item should already be replaced anyway.

If Nike were like Sun Wukong, Cu Chulainn or King Arthur and could proc it on at least 3 abilities consistently, it would be worth. But that's not the case, so Berserker's is the way to go (and I can't believe I'm saying this lol).
1
Kriega1 (143) | May 14, 2019 12:44pm
Oh wow I didn't even know it only procced on the first hit only, that sucks then.

Thank you, Bran :)

In the end, you were right about Shogun's.
2
Gulfwulf (81) | May 13, 2019 2:07pm
Quoted:
Potion of Physical Might: This item is the reason I recommend only 30% CDR from items on Nike. WIth it, you can reach the CDR cap (40%) without needing to many CDR items. It also boosts your power and ability damage.

This doesn't have the 10% cdr that Potion of Magical Might does.

Quoted:
Pestilence: Counter item. Used against healers and/or gods with lots of sustain. Just be sure to coordinate with your fellow support teammate, so you two doesn't don't end up building it, although it can be viable if facing multiple healers. If you need another anti-heal option, check out Brawler's Beat Stick.

Quoted:
Genji's Guard: The magical version of Breastplate of Valor, but it gives you 10% less CDR. I'd recommend this item only if you need more magical protections/CDR and Shogun's Kusari isn't enough, or if the enemy tema team has 5 magical gods.

Quoted:
Hide of the Nemean Lion: Another counter item, with the same purpose as Midgardian Mail. It helps against AA-based enemies. I recommend picking up Shield of Thorns if you build this item,(<- drop this comma) to boost it's its effetcs effects.

Quoted:
Blackthorn Hammer: Since we're not rushing Soul Eater anymore, Blackthorn Hammer] is the item of choice for some early CDR. Plus, (-<drop this comma) the health really helps [[Nike's ultimate.

You're missing brackets on this entry.

What a trash guide I think this should be archived

You could just put more match-ups on the threats like Tyr, Zhong Kui, Ratatoskr, Guan Yu...the rest of the guide are very good. It is pretty and have a good amount of information. Nice job
