Abilities & Leveling Order

Righteous Spirit (Passive)

Ne Zha's spirit is strengthened as he successfully hits enemies with abilities and basic attacks. Each hit provides 1 stack and each Critical Hit provides 2 stacks. Stacks reset if Ne Zha has not taken or dealt damage in the last 10s.
.
While Ne Zha's passive isn't what it used to be, and no longer gives Crit Chance and Power, it's still important to keep up to run around the map whether you're jungling, supporting, or playing solo.
.

Universe Ring Toss

Ne Zha throws the Universe Ring, bouncing several times, dealing damage, applying a Physical Protection Debuff for 3s and a stacking Slow for 1s. Each hit also stacks a movement speed buff on Ne Zha for 2s. Subsequent hits on the same target deal 35% less damage.
.
This is the ability you will be using the most, so practice hitting it as much as possible. You need to max this ability first, as the scaling on the protection debuff, movement speed, and number of bounces are important. If you are having trouble hitting this ability, try to find a stationary target to bounce the ring off of, such as a minion, jungle camp, objective, or something like an Inferno Cannon.
.

Flaming Spear

Ne Zha empowers himself with fighting spirit, igniting his spear for increased Attack Speed and Critical Strike Chance for a short duration. Upon activation, Ne Zha is healed depending on how many stacks he currently has from his passive ability, Righteous Spirit.
.
You want to max this ability second, as the scaling factors of the healing, attack speed buff, and buff duration are essential to your kit. When clearing a wave or jungle camp, you can auto cancel after the second or third auto to reset your attack chain to get more damage off. This ability paired with Shield of Regrowth gives you a large movement speed increase.
.

Armillary Sash

Ne Zha throws out his Armillary Sash hitting the first enemy god in its path. The target is stunned as Ne Zha yanks himself toward the target, dealing a powerful blow to all enemies in the area when he arrives. This ability can Critically Hit.
.
Sash is more of a versatile ability than most people think. You can use it to interrupt a channeled abilities such as a Taolu Assault or Searing Flesh, to have a small setup ability for minor follow up damage, or using it to catch up to an enemy who you plan to hit with your ultimate.
.

Wind Fire Wheels

Ne Zha dashes forward. If he hits an enemy god, he knocks them skyward for 4s, unleashing a 3-hit combo (successfully timed attacks during the combo result in critical strikes), then smashing them back to Earth in his starting location. This ability hits one initial time upon knockup, the three-hit combo, and then again dealing additional damage to enemies in the radius as he lands for a total of 5 times.
.
The most iconic part of Ne Zha's kit, you can take an enemy out of a teamfight for 4 seconds, deal loads of damage depending on your build, and setup the targeted enemy for large amounts of follow up from a big damage ultimate such as Searing Pain. There are several ways to master this ability that I will list in Gameplay Tips.
.

Multi-Role Itemization

JUNGLE ITEM CHOICES
.
Core Items
  • Talaria Boots fits really well on Ne Zha for multiple reasons. Paired with his passive and Shield of Regrowth, you can speed around the map, and still have enough power to efficiently clear camps and gank. The MP5 is also good for staying out on the map longer, which means faster and more farming. If you don't want this playatyle, or aren't in Conquest, then I would suggest Warrior Tabi over Talaria.
  • Jotunn's Wrath is an all-around good first item to have as a jungler in general for any ability-based Assassin, and Ne Zha is no different. Having 20% Cooldown Reduction early in the game is crucial for having your ring toss up which gives you faster clear, and faster jungle rotations.
  • Shield of Regrowth helps Ne Zha to escape high danger situations, or to chase an enemy down with Flaming Spear. It also gives plenty of sustain in the form of HP5 and MP5, as well as Health and CDR. This item is important and essential on Ne Zha no matter the role, because Ne Zha's heal scales higher based on your maximum health.
  • Heartseeker is another item that is essential for most Ne Zha builds. While more on the expensive side, it gives tons of raw stats, and the passive is easily applied with Universe Ring Toss on multiple targets.
  • Malice is not necessarily an essential item, but with the recent changes to this item as a whole, it does synergize well with Ne Zha's kit. With his built-in crits, he can proc the Malice passive quite often, and the CDR on Malice always helps.
  • Magi's Cloak can also be replaced with a Mantle of Discord in a jungle build, or another defensive item. Hybrid items are also okay, but with an easily locked down character such as Ne Zha, a free extra CC immunity is never bad to have.
Other Power Items
  • Arondight probably shouldn't be built every game on this character. While it's definitely not a bad item, there are just better items for him. However, if you're missing some CDR and a lot of power, Arondight is the way to go. The extra movement speed to catch up to a low enemy after ulting them is a nice bonus.
  • Brawler's Beat Stick is the best item to apply anti-heal with Ne Zha. If you need to prioritize it, then replace Jotunn's Wrath with Brawler's, and replace the lost 20% CDR with other cooldown reduction items.
  • Titan's Bane should be built if the enemy has an especially tanky team. For example, if all the enemy carries are building one or two defense items, such as Mantle of Discord, or Breastplate of Valor, Titan's Bane can help you get through that.
Hybrid Options
  • Ancile is good against ability spam Magical characters, or Magicals with channeled abilities. Examples are Chang'e, Cerberus with Ghastly Breath, and Anubis with Plague of Locusts. The additional cooldown is a bonus effect.
  • Caduceus Shield is a solid item to give 35 protections in both the Physical and Magical department. The bonus passive for this item also increases your healing numbers from Flaming Spear, and can help with healer-based allies as well.
  • Mantle of Discord, similar to Magi's Cloak, this is a final item in a build, and has definitely caused me to drop a few kills when the stun hits onto me. The protection stats that it gives are no joke, 60 of each, plus CDR is nuts.
  • Masamune isn't bought that often on anyone, but can be useful if you want a bit more defense when you're in the middle of multiple enemies. At max passive, Masamune gives 35 of each protection, and the item comes with 50 power, health, and movement speed.
  • Pridwen is a good defense item to pick up late in a build if you are lacking Cooldown Reduction. The interesting interaction with Pridwen and Ne Zha is that if you connect your ultimate, the Pridwen shield will always pop and do damage to the target mid-air.
  • Runeforged Hammer has fallen from glory since last season, but is still a worthy pickup on a character like Ne Zha who has a lot of CC abilities. Runeforged passive will apply on your Ring Tosss, Sash, and ultimate.
  • Shifter's Shield is a very underrated hybrid item for junglers. While over 75% health, you gain 35 additional Physical power, making the item give you a total of 70 power. When you are under 75% health, you gain 35 of each protection, totaling 50 Physical protections and 35 Magical protections. It's a fantastic item for diving, using your abilities, and getting out in a pinch.
  • Winged Blade is a defensive option if you are being hurt by copious amounts of slows. The internal item cooldown is 30 seconds, meaning you should be able to make use of the passive twice in any late game teamfight.

SOLO ITEM CHOICES
.
Core Items
  • Gladiator's Shield is a core item, but at the same time--situational. You should only pick this item up if you're against a Physical solo laner who wants to brawl a lot. Examples of this would be King Arthur and Chaac. I wouldn't suggest picking this up if you're against a Magical lane opponent or a Physical who just stalls. You're going to sell this item late in the build regardless.
  • Breastplate of Valor is your go-to item for cooldown reduction. If you're against a staller Physical solo laner, I would suggest going this item after boots for mana sustain, and general cooldown to use in rotations.
  • Blackthorn Hammer is another bridge item that needs to be built early or mid-game. It gives a strong boost in base health, which increases the potency of the heal from Flaming Spear. It also ensures you never run out of mana with the giant MP5 boost when you're under a certain threshold.
  • Caduceus Shield is a solid item to give 35 protections in both the Physical and Magical department. The bonus passive for this item also increases your healing numbers from Flaming Spear, and can help with healer-based allies as well. This should be bought every game.
  • Mantle of Discord is a strong item to finish off a hybrid build. 60 of each protection is enough to make you hard to kill, and the stun when you're under 30% health can pull you out of dangerous situations. The 10% CDR is nice for finishing off cooldown reduction, and is always a nice option if you're being focused.
Defensive Options
  • Spirit Robe is a good mid to late-game pickup as a defensive option. If you are being focused by heavy Crowd Control, Spirit Robe may end of being better purchase for you than Mantle of Discord.
  • Runic Shield should be your first item after boots in solo lane against a Magical lane opponent. The power reduction aura essentially negates all the power the enemy gets from their Shoes, and the added protections make you basically invincible to your lane opponent once completed.
  • Pridwen should be picked up if you lack cooldown reduction in the rest of your build. For example if you need to pickup antiheal, and other aura items that don't give cooldown reduction, Pridwen can finish off a build nicely.
  • Gauntlet of Thebes is an extremely strong item in the current meta, because it gives 300 base health, 60 of each protections to yourself after fully stacked, and an aura around you that gives 10 protections. Even if your support picks this item up, it can still be worth it as a solo laner to have it late game.
  • Hide of the Urchin is normally an excellent item to have in solo lane builds, as it can fit into basically any build for a hybrid character. The only downside of this item is that unless the game is a bloodbath, it can take a while to stack. Try to build this right before teamfights or in between teamfights, so you can stack this item as fast as you can.
  • Masamune is a niche item for most characters, but can work on tanky assassins such as Camazotz and Ne zha. When you're in the middle of the entire enemy team, you can get up to 35 of each protection to help you stay alive for longer and hopefully stay alive long enough to get another rotation of abilities in.
  • Winged Blade is strong against characters who rely heavily on slows, and can be especially important to get if your team doesn't have a Heavenly Wings.
  • Witchblade is strong against auto-attack comps because of the attack speed reduction aura. This item has excellent base stats, and can also help you if you're looking to dive the enemy Hunter.
Power Options
  • Heartseeker is one of my favorite items to go on Ne Zha both in Solo and Jungle. It gives tons of raw stats in the form of Mana, MP5, flat penetration, and 75 power. The item passive is also easily applied with Universe Ring Toss on multiple targets.
  • Void Shield is a hybrid item that gives you Physical protections, health, and penetration in the form of debuffing the enemy. It's the Physical iteration of Void Stone, and should be picked up if the enemy team is stacked with Physical defense, or you want to do more damage.
  • Titan's Bane is similar to Void Shield in the sense that it should really only be picked up if the enemy team is exceptionally tanky. Building this item will allow you to burst down enemy solo laners and supports easier, at the cost of you yourself being easier to take down.
  • Brawler's Beat Stick is your best form of antihealing. It's super easy to apply through Universe Ring Toss, and the sash does AoE damage. If you need to pick this up over your Jungler, then I would add this to your solo lane build in replacement of Heartseeker, as Ne Zha can easily apply the Brawler's passive to the entire enemy team.

SUPPORT ITEM CHOICES
.
Core Items
  • Gauntlet of Thebes is the best item to get for Supports in the current meta. for only 2350 gold, you get 300 health, 60 of each protection, and a 10 protection aura for your allies. It's also super easy to stack after you rotate to mid/jungle skirmishes.
  • Shield of Regrowth I still think is worth it on Ne Zha in the Support role, it just flows too well with his kit to not be. Gaining the extra movement speed, as well as Health and Mana sustain is important for helping Ne Zha in brawls and teamfights.
  • Relic Dagger is another good item for Supports to pick up, basically regardless of the game and situation. I recommend getting this item mid-game, one or two items after boots. It helps you no matter what Support playstyle you are adapting to. If you are engaging a lot with Blink, then it helps you have that relic up faster. If you and your team are falling behind and need Magic Shell more often, it helps with that.
  • Mantle of Discord can help with you being focused, which is more likely to happen when you're an Assassin support. Enemies should try and exploit your low health pool and by nature, lower protections. Mantle is a solid item to get in the late game to help you out of these sticky situations.
  • Lono's Mask I list as a core item for support Assassins, but there are a few exceptions where building it isn't necessary. If you feel like you're getting tons of damage off, and feel like that even in the late game, your damage is needed to take down targets, then by all means, get a Void Shield over Lono's here. Just be aware that you aren't as tanky as a normal Support and may suffer from it, I would only consider dropping it if my solo laner was abnormally tanky.
Situational Items
  • Heartward Amulet is always a solid support aura item for Magical defense, but as an Assassin support, you aren't going to be with your backline as much as you're diving the enemy team to CC them. If you are peeling more than engaging and diving, then Heartward may be a valuable pickup.
  • Sovereignty has the same explanation as Heartward Amulet. If you find yourself needing to peel more than engage, then by all means pick up Sov.
  • Pridwen should be built if you're going into all of the aura defense items with Gauntlet, Heartward, and Sov. Since none of those items have cooldown reduction, you're going to lack it in that build. Pridwen can help fix that issue.
  • Void Shield is a nice item for a Support build if two requirements are met. The first is that you and your carries are in a comfortable lead and you can spend more time diving than peeling, and the second is that your solo laner doesn't already have Void Shield. Since the passives don't stack, it's not worth having more than one.
  • Pestilence or Contagion should be your go-to antiheal options for the support role. Normally I would say Brawler's Beat Stick, but in Support, your damage isn't meant to be relevant. Neither is really better than the other and which of the two you pick up is based on your current situation. If you lack Magical defense, get Pestilence. If you lack Physical defense, get Contagion, simple.
  • Oni Hunter's Garb is a good item to have if you find yourself in the middle of the enemy team more often than out. Let's use the example of a Fenrir delivering you to his team using Ragnarok. If you don't have Oni's, then you are going to have a hard time dealing with the follow up damage. However, since you will most likely have 9% damage mitigation from the full Oni's passive, you will have a much easier time to survive and possibly to re-engage.
  • Midgardian Mail is a counter to melee auto-attack gods such as Bakasura and Kali. It is also on of your better options to counter tank shredder Hunter builds with high attack speed from items like Qin's Sais.
  • Witchblade, like Midgardian Mail, is another item to help counter auto attackers. It comes with a lot of solid stats at a pretty cheap price, and can improve your ability to dive enemy Hunters, and some Assassins.

Gameplay Tips

Landing Zone

While it isn't stated in the ability description for Wind Fire Wheels, you will land from your ultimate from wherever you took off from. This means that if you connected from a long range, then you will drop and return back from the spot you originally started from. Meanwhile, your target will always drop straight to the ground.

Hitting Crits with the Ultimate

To double your damage with the ultimate, you have to left-click on your mouse when the screen says to attack during your ultimate. It will say to do it three times, and they are all evenly spread out. It will definitely be confusing at first, but once you understand it, it's easy to remember.

I also enjoy Ne Zha support, I was wondering if you knew if Lono's Mask reduced the heal in his 2? I've wanted to try it but always been skeptical and ended up purchasing something else.

I believe it does, but you can always pick up Caduceus Shield to counteract the healing reduction. I would even argue that with Ne Zha support, as long as you're getting your CC and abilities off, the healing reduction won't matter in the grand scheme.

True, however I'm not sure if they fixed the issue where cadaceus shield heals for percentages such as Ne Zha 2, Sun Wukong Ult, and a couple others.
