Poseidon the God of the WATER PARK!

Poseidon is a Magical Damage dealer, Arguably one of the best mid laners in the game with his good lane Clearing, High mobility with his second ability, passive movement speed and probably one of the most ( in my opinion ) Amazing ultimate Abilities in the game But we'll dive more deeply into that Later.

Speaking of Which here We go!(lol)
Abilities:

Changing Tides Poseidon's Movement speed increases and his abilities do additional damage as his Tide Level increases. Successful basic attack hits increase his Tide, and using abilities decreases it.
Ability: Buff Affects: Self High Tide Damage: Abilities deal up to 20% additional damage at max Tide Level High Tide Speed: Movement speed increases up to 20% at max Tide Level Basic Attacks: +10% Tide Level on Hit

Tidal Surge Poseidon summons forth a wave that travels in a line, dealing damage and pushing back all enemies in its path.
Ability: Line Affects: Enemy Damage: Magical Damage: 100/140/180/220/260 (+70% of your magical power) Tidal Meter: -35% Tide Cost: 70/80/90/100/110 Cooldown: 10s

Trident Poseidon activates his Trident, granting Move speed and making his basic attacks fire 2 additional shots in a spread for 6s. The shots deal magical damage plus 20% of Poseidon's Magical Power. All shots increase Poseidon's Tide on successful hit.
Ability: Buff Affects: Self Base Damage per Hit: 30/40/50/60/70 Movement Speed: 15/20/25/30/35% Lifetime: 6s Cooldown: 20/18/16/14/12s

Whirlpool Poseidon summons a whirlpool at his ground target location that cripples targets, preventing movement abilities, and pulls targets toward the center dealing magical damage every .5s for 3s. Reduces Poseidon's Tide by 25% when cast.
Ability: Ground Target Affects: Enemy Damage: Magical Radius: 20 Damage: 15/25/35/45/55 (+15% of your magical power) Tidal Meter: -25% Tide Cost: 70/80/90/100/110 Cooldown: 15/14/13/12/11s

Release the Kraken! Poseidon releases the Kraken, damaging and slowing targets in its radius. Enemies in the center of the effect when it spawns take additional damage and are stunned and bounced into the air.
Ability: Ground Target Affects: Enemy Damage: Magical Radius: 30 Damage: 170/195/220/245/270 (30% of your magical power) Damage (Center): 180/220/260/300/340 (60% of your magical power) Slow: 30% Stun (Center): 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2s Tidal Meter: -50% Tide Cost: 100/110/120/130/140 Cooldown: 90s

The purple Stats are in my opinion the most important.

Pros / Cons

Pros:
+High movement speed with his passive Changing Tides and Trident
+Amazing Damage with his 3-4-1 Combo ( , , )
+With Gem of Isolation the Whirlpool Digivolves to The Kiddy Pool of Death!

Cons:
-No escapes besides his Built in speed meaning he can be stuck inside Odin's Ring of spears
-Very Squishy!
-If not farmed he will not be able to do enough damage ( but this happens with most gods)

Tactics,Farming and Awareness

Farming

During the laning phase it is important to clear the minions as fast as possible, Especially in the middle lane!, but conservatively.what i mean by this is focus all your abilities on the minions but don't spam them. Because if you use your mana supply then you will basically give away your lane.

Tips for Farming conservatively :
- when the minions meet in the middle it is important to place your Whirlpool so that you will pull the melee minions back and the ranged minions forward
- DON'T USE YOUR TIDAL SURGE Right away Basic attack the minions until your minions are taken out or you have taken the enemies minions out ONLY use if you are not sure if you can prevent them from entering tower range
- Basic attack the minions as many time as you can before they meet in the middle and you deploy your Whirlpool . If you can fill Your Tide Meter your Whirlpool will do more damage allowing you to clear faster

It is Important to HELP THE JUNGLER ( if you have one ) If they are clearing the side camps waltz over and throw a couple of basic attacks this helps you and the jungler because he can now move on more quickly and you receive some gold and exp. If you want to help them clear buffs clear your lane first and don't stay around to long because after the recent patch bumbas no longer allows the jungler to take exp unhindered by the helper.Stay for 60 to 80% of the time to get as much as you can but leave when it is almost finished to allow the jungler some solo exp.

Awareness

It is imperative you are aware of your surroundings in any lane but especially in the middle lane and even more so if they have a junlger. Around the level 3 - 7 mark is when the jungler if farmed enough is more likely to try to gank you. Buying wards can help prevent these ganks and even plan counter ganks.
( This picture will be updated soon for now i use it simply as a reference )

Place wards near the middle fury camps upwards in the enemy jungle on either or both sides to track the movement of the jungler as they tend to roam through there on there way to buff camps.

If your playing defensively place the wards a bit closer to the mid camps as junlgers that have more audacity will tend to come form there.

Here are some more tips for being aware:

- try checking the map every five or so seconds if you can't remember to do that or have trouble focusing try every ten and work your way down
- always pay attention to the chat to see if your teammates have called missings and which lane they are missing from because they could be possible gank attempts
- be aware of the item builds and there active choices so you can prepare to work around them ( ex. baiting out aegis's )

Tactics

- your basic burst combo should be Whirlpool to apply CRIPPLE, Release the Kraken! to do massive damage ( remember to try and bait aegis before hand as to not waste your ultimate ),Tidal Surge to try to seal the deal and if that fails use Trident to chase and truly finish them off

-while this isn't top level strats it is something I've noticed players overlook when playing Poseidon , when they are participating in team fights or general farming is taking note of his passive, when the Tide Meter is full it increases his movement speed and adds additional damage to all his abilities making it very useful if taken into consideration so while your gallivanting around make sure you tide meter is full so you may utilize it's benefits where ever you go.

-And probably one of the best pieces of advice i can give you is be aware of he enemies active make sure you know if they have Aegis Amulet or Combat Blink . being aware of this allows for you to determine whether you have to use your whirlpool on them first or if have to bait aegis'

If you have any tactical knowledge to share make sure to post it down in the comments and it maybe included.

Match ups- the good the bad and the Bacchus ( AKA the ugly )

Mid Lane Opposition:

AGNI
Difficulty: Hard ( When he hits Level Five )

Agni
While your Even Early game is better then his ,Once Agni Hits Level five BE CAREFUL Even if he isn't able to burst you down himself with his Rain Fire And Flame Wave He is Able to combo with any Jungler that may happen to Wander by.

Tips:
-Try and get him out of position by waiting for him to use his flame wave and then Burst him down As fast as possible
-It is imperative that you Land your Whirlpool
So that he isn't able to Use His Path of Flames to escape
-Buy Purification Beads to avoid the
Multitude of possible stuns available for Agni with his Noxious Fumes
ANHUR
Difficulty: Above Average

Anhur
Most Anhur players Can only Kill you if they hit there Impale Shifting Sands combo but don't think there aren't good anhur players so be wary!

Tips:
-Always try to stand straight across from the enemy Anhur and make sure you stay far out of range of his Impale
ANUBIS
Difficulty: Average

Anubis
If you Avoid the Mummify
Then Most Anubis players will not be able to kill you but be wary he can do MASSIVE damage so if he doesn't kill you he'll hurt you ALOT!

Tips:
-Use your Whirlpool like you would an
Ao Kuang Tornado put it to the side of which your enemy is and aim your Tidal Surge to take care of the wave
-It is important to remember that since the beginning of july 2013 Anubis is no longer able to be Knocked back or up when channeling his Plague of Locust
AO KUANG
Difficulty:Below Average

Ao Kuang
Although he can do loads of damage with his TornadoesTornadoes and his ult Spirits TempestSpirit's Tempest Ao kuang has no leaps or dashes and his only escapes is his SlitherSlither which similar to Trident which increases his movement speed so if you have Gem of Isolation Ao kaung becomes a sitting duck and will be very susceptible to your combos.
Tips:
-Clear the wave as fast as possible so you can harass the poop out of our friendly little noodle and make sure he is unable to farm effectively and you should be okay.
APHRODITE
Difficulty:Above Average

Aphrodite
With her sustainability from her Love Birds and her surprising damage from her second ability Back Off! . not to mention her ability to link with any junglers that happen to wander by to wreck your face. So make sure you not Underestimate this Beauteous killer.

Tips:
-Make sure you draw out her ultimate Undying Love Before you use Release the Kraken! or you will have wasted your ult
-Always be wary of her movements if she is suddenly aggressive there is probably a jubngler nearby
Difficulty: Average BUT IS VERY ANNOYING

Chang'e
Chang'e is a pesky dancer who will not take you very seriously due to the fact that she is able to activate her Moonlit Waltz and well .... Waltz right out of your ult and any other damage you may put on her. and if you happen to get her well she can heal .... yeah i know it is aggravating. Not to mention she has an really high damage stun in her Waxing Moon .
Tips:
-You absolutely need to bait out her Moonlit Waltz if you want to have any chance of doing anything to her
- Using items like Polynomicon wouldn't be to bad due to the fact that most chang'e players will most likely Moonlit Waltz your abilities and will not expect the damage from the poly so it is a decent option

CHRONOS
Difficulty: Above Average(Not Farmed) Hard(Farmed)

Chronos
The Ruler of time, Time it'self with his ability to slow and stun with his Stop Time a colossal amount of damage with his Time Rift and the ability to shrug off a lot of damage or escape incoming damage with his ultimate Rewind . He becomes very hard to kill and a very big threat.
Tips:
-OUT PUSH HIM! making him use his Stop Time on the wave instead of on you removes most of the utility from his early game and will allow for an easy harassment opportunity

-I'm not joking OUT PUSH HIM the worst thing you can do is allow a chronos to get fed because he is essentially a magical carry that will destroy you with his basic attacks late game especially if he gets polynomicon so shutting him down early game is vital
HADES
Difficulty: Hard

Hades
With his High mobility from Death from Below his sustain when he uses Devour Souls on Blighted enemies and his amazing chemistry with junlgers and any gankers due to his ultimate Pillar of Agony this is one enemy that is particularly hard to go against.
[/columns]
Tips:
- Play defensive wait til he uses his Death From Below before you attempt to clear the wave as it allows for him to not harass you and keeps you in good positions to counter ganks form the junlger
-if there is no jungler near by and Hades gets you in his ult burst him down with your combo it's your best chance to survive unless your at low health then use Aegis Amulet
- BUY COMBAT BLINK !!!
HE BO
Difficulty:Average DO NOT UNDER ESTIMATE

He Bo
While not the best god for clearing He Bo has probably some of the highest damage in the entire game so be very cautious when laning against this Heavy hitter ESPECIALLY if they have a Fenrir in the jungle because if that dog is able to get his disgusting teeth into you with Ragnarok he'll most likely bring you to your untimley demise at the hands of Crushing Wave .
Tips:
-Never bait a He bo unless you have heavy team support because even if the Crushing Wave does not kill you he can kill you with his ability to spam his Water Cannon
HEL
Difficulty:Average But depending the skill will out harass and sustain you

Hel
Just beacuse she doesn't have your standard Damage dealing ultimate doesn't mean you should count her out she has amazing sustain, great damage and lane clear with a leveled Repulse and the ability to regenerate mana while in her Light stance and have extra magical power in her Dark stance.
Tips:
-When you've made it to level 5 wait until she uses Repulse on the wave ( unless she is pushed into her tower ) then use your combo this will most likely be enough to kill her if not make sure you have some jungle support because she is very susceptible to ganks due to her only sort of "escape" being the temporary cc immunity with her Cleanse.

ISIS
Difficulty:Very Difficult

Eset
While she has Damage she also has a whole lot of Utility with her stuns from Spirit Ball her slows and silence from her Dispel Magic and her loads of Damage from her Wing Gust She is not an opponent to be taken lightly.
Tips:
-Be sure avoid the stun while it has a long range it moves quite slowly so Avoid at all Costs this is usually her main initiation and if she hits it your in for a world of hurt
-After the activation of her Ultimate Circle of Protection Try to avoid Dealing or Getting hit by any Damage if your in the vicinity of her ult
LOKI
Difficulty: Above Average

Loki
This trickster can do massive damage to mages and can clear waves quickly with a leveled DecoyDecoy.WHile his burst damage is his greatest asset it is also his greatest disadvantage mainly being once his combo has finished his auto attacks are his only way of finishing you.
tips:
-if you feel it is necessary buy Aegis Amulet and Purification Beads because if you have a good reaction time you may be able to avoid a massive amount pf burst damage by waiting for him to use his Assassinate and in a quick succession using beads and aegis to avoid the impending Aimed StrikeAimed Strike
POSEIDON
Difficulty: Even (not including player skill)

Poseidon
You didn't think you were the only fish in the sea, going against Poseidon is really a test of knowledge of the character just try to think how you would play and counter it while this isn't the most Difficult of fights ( depending on who your playing ) it is one of the most valuable learning experiences because it allows you to learn form there mistakes or your own.
Tips:
- observe how fast/slow they clear the lane how aggressively they push and there overall play style because it may give you some tricks and also it will allow you to know how to counter them
RA
Difficulty: Above Average

Ra
While most of the time you'll have a severe advantage when it comes to damage Do not underestimate him because when it comes to sustain........... you ever hear that song that's like CAN'T TOUCH THIS ! that's basically it , his 3 Solar Blessing will make it Very hard to kill this Chicken due to it's Amazing Heal Arguably one of the best in the game.
Tips:
-You'll notice that Ra tends to say Screw it and just Searing Pain the incoming wave DO NOT think that totally safe while his ult is difficult to land (unless they/you don not pay any attention) it is on a naturally low cooldown and will be even shorter due to the Shoes of Focus and/or Breastplate of Valor that most Ra players will get
ZEUS
Difficulty: Above Average

Zeus
This bearded old bro of yours, while not having good push early on will have ALOT of damage be wary.Never tussle with a Zeus especially if your considering .... hmmm i don't know LIVING.
Tips:
- Early game is your best chance to shut a Zeus down, His slow clear allows you to easily push a Zeus to his tower which will keep him low in the moneys and keep you from being pooped on (I apologize if anyone imagines this sort of action in advanced :P )
-Zeus' Chain lightning will hit all of your minions except 1 so stay behind them and you will not get poked
-AVOID getting hit by his basics this is bad for three reasons 1: he gets a charge one you which he can then poke you with Detonate Charge 2: he does more damage with his next basic attack due to his passive Overcharge 3: if he gets 3 charges on you his Detonate Charge will do loads of damage and stun you which he usually then takes advantage of
ZHONG KUI
Difficulty: Difficult( and will be brutally hard to kill early game )

Zhong Kui
Zhong kui the less then gorgeous Ghostbuster While being not model quality WILL DESTROY YOU ( at least with a full Demon Bag ). with his great team fight/tower diving ult and probably the best raw protections for any mage ( again this is dependent on your Demon Bag ) don't expect to easily take down this lug of a paranormal investigator.
Tips:
-the best way to deal with Zhong Kui is to prevent him from filling his Demon Bag which can be done by disrupting his second ability Exorcism after he used Expose Evil as Poseidon however has only one ability possible that can do such that being his tidal surge due to it's knock back but this method is not recommended if you are not fully comfortable with Poseidon or your current situation in which you might need to. if you are faced with a full bag Zhong Kui it is important to wait until he has used Recall Demons to even try to initiate on him because you will do NOTHING ( unless your say lvl 20 while there at lvl 12 ) this is because his 60 passive protections ( if he has a full bag ) will double

* Remember these Ratings are just a difficulty based on the gods kit NOT on player skill*

While his help was a month in the making my reply to it is longer ( so do not feel so bad man :P ) it was very useful help that I truly appreciate, because Zeus has not been mid in the current meta very often and the info needed to counter is great!

Props to Amphirite for the help with Chang'e help, if you guys need an idea on how to play Chang'e go check him out!

Conclusion

I thank you sincerely for taking the time to read this guide on Poseidon God of the Oceans i would also like to note that this guide will be updated often while i acquire the tactical knowledge needed to face some of the gods in the match up session as well as any other additional info that comes to light.

please submit your opinions on this guide or any tips for further guides below.

The build is bad. Though I really don't like the choice of Wall of Absolution. Breastplate of Valor will serve you much better against physical gods and the CDR is great. Also, I don't like Soul Reaver on Poseidon. He has great burst already and release the kraken, while doing a lot of damage, can't really 100-0 someone just on its own. It's not like Vulcan where is Earthshaker can 100-0 someone late game at max range. Also, Spear of the Magus is much better than Obsidian Shard. Poseidon has a lot of ticks, both from his Whirlpool and Trident, and it's generally a better item if you can get that passive applied. I also think that you need to put items such as Polynomicon in the actual build rather than just in the explanation section.

You explain items decently, though writing the stats in the explanation isn't necessary.

The skill order is great. Despite, the skill explanations isn't. All you did was copy the skill description, which is unnecessary, useless, and seems lazy. Instead, you should explain how to use this skill, what are its benefits, and perhaps how to combo it.

You do explain well how to farm, the 3-4-1 combo, team fights. The general gameplay is good.

The BBCoding, while present, is too obstructive. It's just awkward in many places. I know that you know how to use BBCoding, but it seems like you use it wrongly.

This guide is OK. It has its flaws, e.g the build and some of its explanations, but you do a good job of explaining your role, the match ups are good etc.

I won't vote, for now. When you update this guide, P.M me so I could re-review it and vote.

I won't link you TT's BBCoding guide, since you seem to know how to use this tool, but I'd recommend you check out some top guides to see how to use BBCoding in the right way.

I play very aggressively, lost all my games with this build not saying its a bad guide but doesn't fit my role ingame. The build I came up with is very bursty and fast allowing me to get in and out if the situation gets to overwhelming for me. I am still waiting to see how my build holds out against a strong team, till then I cant trully say its a build I recommend trying/following.

Hi there, Amphirite here. Thank you for your time spent veiwing my chang'e guide. For Chang'e its really REALLY HARD to counter her with any high cc character including posi. She can just waltz out of your whirlpool and kraken without taking any damage. In my experience, there hasn't been a single posi that could counter me. The closest one i would say that poked me a little was if the posi built up movement speed, attack speed, and special item quirks that amps up his basic attacks. Hence Gem of Binding and Polynomicon are good choices. Also might want to pick up Fatalis and possibly magi's blessing.

Definitely fix up some of the titles. The subheadings should be in bold and in A bright colour to help distinguish them. Also, a few grammar errors here and there, which does make your guide look a bit messy and inconsistent. Work on the presentation, and reading this will be much more enjoyable. The information is already incredibly solid.

Hello BYtheHORNS,
I apologize for this one-month-late reply :P I'm not a very active SmiteFire user.
If you have forgotten me over the month, you asked me on my Zeus guide to help you on your Poseidon guide.

(Seeing how you organised your guide, I'll just help you a bit ya?)

Difficulty: Above Average - Depends heavily on player skills.

Zeus's lane pushing is very weak early game. Do NOT forgo that advantage. Push the lane hard and force Zeus back into the tower and he'll lose gold and the early game. If he uses himself as a shield for the tower, that's a kill for you.

Zeus's Chain Lightning will only hit all minions except 1, so it most likely will not hit you, stay behind your minions before he uses Chain Lightning and you won't get poked. Then you can poke him instead :D

Do not exchange blows with Zeus with basic attacks. I think you'll know why. On Zeus's case, his most deadly weapon is his basic attacks. Yours are your spells.

There are tons of many other tips, but you'll just have to get to know Zeus well and you can see what you want to add to your guide. Really, Zeus isn't that much different on any lane, anywhere.
As long as you don't get charged up, you'll be fine.

Tips on your guide: make the pictures smaller, it hurts eyes :P

P.S. If you're an EU player add me oranqe and we'll play sometime together :)

Don't worry about coming across as offensive; there's no need to sugarcoat anything if you disagree with someone's viewpoints, so simply stating what you believe is sufficient.

If that's the case then I would suggest Midgardian Mail over Hide of the Nemean Lion because they both carry health and physical defense, and Nemean Lion's passive is probably one of the worst passives unless you have several physical defense items.

I'm sorry, I only saw Gem of Binding and wanted to make sure you had it clear for someone trying out Poseidon for the first time.

Personally I haven't played Poseidon much, so I can only theorize. And like I said, this guide is a tremendous improvement upon your previous ones, and I hope to see more guides of this quality from you in the future. Nice job.

Thanks Mr. turnip ( know that i think about it it does have a ring to it ) to address some of you points you have brought up

First off I mainly put Hide of the Nemean Lion into the Brawler guide Mainly for the health so that it gives you that little bit more magic power from Ethereal staffs passive and allows you to stay in fights longer and have a better amount of damage at low health due to Banroft's Talon . While i myself Usually end up acquiring the Fabled Breastplate of Valor for exactly the reasons you stated i wanted the brawler build to be able to have good "survivability" as well as have decent damage while breastplate gives you mana in my opinion it's not worth losing the health needed to be up close and personal which is what the build is about. it also helps those using it to benefit form Ethereal staff and Bancroft's passives.

Secondly i do have Gem of Isolation in my kamikaze build but i suggested Gem of Binding only for those wanting a more chronos like experience ( which is why i have polynomicon there as well ) while Poseidon isn't the best chronos i wanted to offer builds that aren't the standard everyone uses sort of thing

I would like to apologize if i'm sounding like i'm shooting your idea down but these are simply my opinions i hope you aren't offended as i realize this sounds quite abrasive but i wanted to get my reasoning across

And while i am on the subject of your ideas I Thank you GREATLY for the "hel help" if you will this has actually helped in both my understanding as well as an idea on how i will need to counter her ( i still haven't played against her .... mainly due to my computer being run on basically produce .... no not a turnip :( ) when the time comes.

And the help with formatting you gave really helped! and to this day i still appreciate Thanks for all the help.
