Can get Hunter's Blessing instead of Mage's Blessing, but Mage's Blessing is preferred, at least for Mid lane it is.
Other Mid Starts:
Mage's Blessing/ Hunter's Blessing, Spellbook, 1 Healing Potion and 2 Mana Potions. (This start is for Book of Thoth builds).
Book of Souls, 1 Healing Potion/ Multi Potion and 2 Mana Potions. (This start is for Book of Thoth builds).
Talon Trinket, 1 Multi Potion and 1 Mana Potion (or 1 health/1 mana or 2 mana). (This start is for rushing Bancroft's Talon before Boots if against low pressure in mid lane where the start won't be punished).
Mage's Blessing/ Hunter's Blessing, Uncommon Staff, 1 Healing Potion and 2x Mana Potions. (This start is for getting Warlock's Staff soon after boots).
More standard AA-based build with no stacking, becomes potent sooner in match than Warlock's Staff build, however you're squishier.
Can get Shoes of Focus instead of Shoes of the Magi.
Can also get Bancroft's Talon instead of Pythagorem's Piece.
If you need Divine Ruin it would take the place of either Telkhines Ring, Obsidian Shard, or Rod of Tahuti. Or, Boots when you have Elixir of Speed.
An example anti-heal build path could be: Shoes of Focus, Pythagorem's Piece, Divine Ruin, Demonic Grip, Telkhines Ring, Obsidian Shard/ Rod of Tahuti (sell boots for Elixir of Speed and item you didn't get sixth).
If you get Toxic Blade instead of Divine Ruin I would swap it for the items suggested for Divine Ruin, but not Rod of Tahuti, as I feel you give up too much power if you do so.
Build centered around 3+1 combo using Section III on Accelerate. Comes online later than AA-based builds due to inclusion of Book of Thoth, and due to being more ability focused. The main weakness of this build is fighting against CC-immunity ( Magi's Cloak, Purification Beads, CC-immune abilities).
High burst, but not much CDR so you may be a bit predictable. You want to try and farm as much as possible for this build so you can start being relevant, especially since you need to stack Shaman's Ring to get the evolved version that works well with Rod of Tahuti.
Has some safety with Book of the Dead later into the match, if you swap Boots for it instead of getting one of the other alternative items.
If you need Divine Ruin you would replace Spear of Desolation, though it does potentialy lower the chance of one shotting squishies with your 3 + 1 combo.
Sell boots for:
Book of the Dead for survivability,
Soul Reaver for fighting high health targets with your Time Rift and Stop Time (good for punishing tanks lategame),
Polynomicon for adding some extra combo burst and helps with tower/pheonix pushing once you have some magical power online in your build. Works especially well with Book of Thoth centred builds,
Chronos' Pendant for more CDR,
or some other alternative, including one of the basic attack rings. (though the options listed here tend to be the best ones).
Slower, stacking build so you become potent later into the match, though Warlock's Staff is there for safety. I mainly use this build over the other AA-based one if im against a team which has heavy burst (e.g. He Bo, Zeus). Early game this build is very farm focused, so avoid lengthy engagements/poking unless you're certain you can get a kill/assist.
Can get Shoes of the Magi instead of Shoes of Focus.
If you need Divine Ruin or Toxic Blade it would take the place of either Obsidian Shard or Telkhines Ring. Or, Boots when you have Elixir of Speed.
An example could be: Shoes of Focus, Warlock's Staff, Demonic Grip, Divine Ruin, Telkhines Ring, Obsidian Shard/ Rod of Tahuti (sell boots for Elixir of Speed and item you didn't get sixth).
Sell boots for:
Pythagorem's Piece for the good mix of stats, including lifesteal (recommended),
Bancroft's Talon for lifesteal and boxing using the item's passive,
Chronos' Pendant for more CDR,
Hastened Ring for boxing/chasing/juking,
or some other alternative. (though the options listed here tend to be the best ones).
Divine Ruin or Toxic Blade may be necessary in some matches. I don't recommend Toxic Blade in the same build as one that has Hastened Ring, as you lose out on too much damage.
Typhon's Fang should only be bought when Bancroft's Talon is present, and the item gets countered hard by anti-heal.
Soul Gem doesen't provide much, but it provides the occasional burst proc with it's passive which can be stacked with constant usage of Time Rift. I would consider it only in an ability based build.
Ethereal Staff is a bruiser option if you want to be able to reduce tanky targets health while also gaining some of it to have a bit more health.
Dynasty Plate Helm or Celestial Legion Helm are useful against physical Mid and/or physical Jungler, though Celestial Helm is weak against tick based physical damage (e.g. The Crusher).
Winged Blade against Slow-heavy team comps.
Breastplate of Valor against heavy physical teams if you need the defense and want some CDR, generally best paired with Book of Thoth builds.
Stone of Fal for it's base stats, for dealing with burst mages that haven't build Obsidian Shard yet.
