Last three items are interchangable. You want a little cool down to obtain your ult more often late game. And only having a lvl 1 ult for almost the whole game makes it an escape or stun tool. Less of a dmg tool to try and keep you from diving into crazy fights. And please dont be afraid to give suggestions after playing around with this build and customizing it to yourself. The feed back will be tested and added if its good ^-^

Also, FYI, For basic attack based assassins, you should never build Frostbound Hammer or Hastened Katana in the same build. It's counter productive and it doesn't offer you much. Most basic atack based assassins will build Qin's Sais so they'll benefit from Hastened Katana due to the attack speed. As mentioned in my previous comments, you should build thanatos to optimize his ability damage.

Hey Vlad. This build needs improvement. Thanatos is an ability based assassin, and thus would benefit from high cool downs, power, and penetration.
My suggested damage build:
Warrior Tabi
Jotunn's Wrath
Hydra's Lament
Heartseeker
Brawler's Beat Stick or The Crusher
Titan's Bane or Void Shield

Replace any item (not boots) with a defensive option like Mantle of Discord or Magi's Cloak for some more survival.
I would personally replace a flat penetration item.

You can also try building bruiser since that gives you some protections:

Warrior Tabi
Jotunn's Wrath
Breastplate of Valor
Pestilence/ Bulwark of Hope
The Crusher
Brawler's Beat Stick

@BranMuffin:

Please disregard the above suggestions. When I made these suggestions, I was in jungle practice and momentarily confused flat penetration with physical power. Physical power can be overcapped (with jungle buffs and potions), but flat penetration can't.

Thanatos gets +35 flat penetration from Scent of Death (Max level). In order to prevent overcapping of flat penetration, here's my revised builds (Mostly targeted towards Arena/Clash):

Full Glass Cannon:
Transcendence
Warrior Tabi
Jotunn's Wrath
Hydra's Lament
Bloodforge
Titan's Bane/ Void Shield

Glass Cannon Build 2:
Transcendence
Warrior Tabi
Hydra's Lament
Brawler's Beat Stick
Bloodforge
Titan's Bane/ Void Shield

Bruiser:
Transcendence
Warrior Tabi
Hydra's Lament
Heartseeker
Void Shield
Ancile

Anti Heal Bruiser:
Transcendence
Warrior Tabi
Hydra's Lament
Breastplate of Valor
Pestilence
Brawler's Beat Stick

Of course, buy defensive/hybrid items earlier if you're getting focused by the enemy. Buy them later if you're good at positioning and not being focused.

Aggressive Damage Combo: 4, basic attack, 2, basic attack, 3, basic attack, 1, basic attack.

Also, I disagree with his use of Hastened Katana due to him having a speed buff in his 2 and a slow in his 1.

Bran, be Tyr for a second. Be Judge, Jury, and The Executioner, and tell me what you think.

Yeah this is a shockingly-awful build. I would call it troll but I believe the intentions behind are genuine meaning this won't be archived.

Wayne...are we okay to archive builds like this?

"27 kills my first match" = I'm trolling and just created a new account so I'm smurfing this one and I'll build whatever tf I want.

No offense, but against normal competition, this is a terrible build.

Sorry, let me try again. Can you do well with this build? Sure, it's got very high power (but almost 0 penetration from items), but there are major issues with functionality on the build. Either you're facing low level competition, your skill level is crazy high, or you've always got good teammates to cover you and allow you to deal damage. And that's no excuse or good reason to use this build as-is.

You've got healing in your Death Scythe, so you don't really need lifesteal from Devourer's Gauntlet. Bloodforge as 2nd item is very costly and delays your power curve (though those 2 items together do give you very high power at 2nd item). This is also double-lifesteal, and combined with your Scythe, any lifesteal is going to greatly shut that aspect of your kit/build down hard.

As boogie says, Frostbound Hammer + Hastened Katana is control overkill for staying close to the enemy. With only Katana and Qin's (5th item, pretty late in the game) as attack speed items, you're not getting as much out of your basic attacks as you might otherwise. And with him doing the most harm to the enemy with his abilities and his execute ult (because you can't argue he's 100% an ability-based god), you're doing no favors by only considering CD as last item.

And only the 10% MS? Sure, you've got situational/temporary MS out of Scent of Death, but when it's down, you're going to be fairly slow and easy to catch. You only have the 1 point in it until level 11, so that MS isn't going to be all that good to cover your overall lack of mobility. I'm really curious which mode(s) you play.

Finally...why wouldn't you just max out Death Scythe at level 9 if you're not putting it into the ult (which honestly you really should, due to the increasing health threshold...but you can't and you advise against going in, because you handicap yourself with the lack of MS in your build).

Those are the major flaws I see.

In a troll build with better flow, I can see using Hastened Katana, but only for the fact of sticking to the enemy. I would still max CDR, perhaps build 1 protection item with health to allow you to soak damage if you want to box them with Katana, and keep Hydra's Lament as a core item. It would probably look something like this:

Is it against the rules to have a build which most people think isn't (even close to) optimal?

I don't mind archiving if one or more of the following criteria are met:
  1. The build includes items which the god it was made for can't even purchase
  2. The skill sequence is impossible to fill out the way it is displayed in the cheatsheet
  3. The title and description of the guide make it abundantly clear that the guide was only made to waste people's time
If one or more of these hold true, the build/guide is basically the equivalent of a spam topic/comment on the forums. However, whether or not #3 is true is normally a little harder to figure out than it is for #1 & #2, and it should be reviewed strictly on a case by case basis. In this case, I don't believe the author meant to release this as a "troll build".

Even for a troll build, hastened katana is useless unless you're fully committing to basic attacking.

Before we get into off meta/unique ways of playing certain gods, i want to make sure Vlad knows how to play a standard thanatos
