Bridge items are bought in the early to mid-game for the strong stats at a lower price than normal tier 3 items, but tend to fall off in effectiveness late-game.
Most bridge items are considered tier 2, but don't have a tier 3 upgrade. Other T2 items have fairly strong stats and can be bought early and completed as T3 items later, acting somewhat as bridge items themselves. These include:
I'll start it off...for me, it's probably Dynasty Plate Helm. It's fun to go bruiser with my favorite drunk man, Bacchus. The physical protection, magical power, and in particular the flat pen for a low, low price can give me a nice leg up on the competition, scoring me (and my team) some early kills. Of course, I wouldn't build this in Conquest in a Support role, but in other modes, it's a hell of a good time.
Runner up is probably Cloak of Concentration. Most times, I'll go straight into Spirit Robe (my preference over Mantle of Discord), but there are other times I'll delay a bit and get something else first. Why just T2 of this? It doesn't have the damage mitigation passive (a huge selling point), but it has more than half of the total CDR and protections, and it's another 1,000 to get to T3. Pretty good price.
Not prototypical bridge item, but I consider Heartseeker as one, since I usually sell it late game. I like the little extra power you get from it for abilities.
If not that one, Charged Bow since it is cheap and has the passive. Wait.. what about Asi? That's my vote. Gives good attack speed, some penetration and the passive can bring you back from the brink of death.
I really like the Icaival also as first item after the Deaths Toll because can get you a good atk.speed a bit of pen. and also physical power when you hit a basic attack. With just 2500 gold you have: power and atk.speed fron Ichaival and sustain from Deaths Toll
Sands of Time and Bumba's Mask, damn OP items, especially the sands, which grants a great mana sustain and that 10% of cooldown reduction is too much for only 800 gold (I have even bought it as a third item) I only sell it when I have the gold to buy my last item in full.
If you buy them together in the middle line, they help you a lot to overcome the early game (especially helps the mages who find it difficult to finish them alone with some jungle camp, like Thoth, for example).
