Main Build Items

- Shoes of the Magi provides good early pen
- Bancroft's Talon pairs very well with Sorrow and is a huge core item, making it a must on every Anubis build
- Spear of Desolation is especially great on Anubis because when you use Grasping Hands on an enemy in a combo, they are almost certainly going to die, giving you additional CDR to use it again for poke. Akso high damage and good pen.
- Gem of Isolation is another core item on Anubis, pairs well with Plague of Locusts and Grasping Hands
- Chronos' Pendant is a standard mage item, high CDR lets you continually poke with Grasping Hands
- Typhon's Fang for me is a logical final step. It increases your lifesteal immensely with its passive and gives +60 damage with a full build

Playstyle

Really, you should be playing passively behind your tanks throughout the entire game. Use Grasping Hands for Minion clear and to harrass enemy Gods, use your combos on anyone out of position, and do your best to help secure kills and assist tanks/people up front

Tips:
-In my expierience, if the enemy team is squishy with only one tank, focusing your standard combo on them can keep them out of the fight or stop an engagement, disrupting the team even if you don't get the kill
- Grasping Hands on a minion wave with a full build will heal you for about 1/3 of your health
-If you're running away, throw Grasping Hands on yourself to deter and slow pursuing Gods

Combos

Standard combo: Mummify, Grasping Hands
Ultimate Combo: Mummify, Grasping Hands, Death Gaze
OR Grasping Hands, Mummify, Death Gaze (The slow helps you hit your skill shot, and your ult provides the damage)

Plague of Locusts is not ideal for combo attacks because it roots you, while lacking the damage of Death Gaze. I only use it for Minion clears if the enemy is far away, or if my abilities are down and I see someone low health around a corner-or something of that likeness.

Skill Sequence & Abilites

Sorrow-Sorrow looks complicated, but does 3 simple things. It reduces CC effects by 30%, and give you two types of stacks: Lifesteal and Protections Steal. Lifesteal Stacks at max stacks (3) basically doubles Anubis's LS (99%). Protection Stacks steals 7 protections from whoever you're damaging for 5 seconds, up to 3 stacks.

Plague of Locusts-Max this out second. I use it as a minion clear/LS heal source. Can be used to finish off low health enemies. As it's a damaging ability, build it before Mummify

Mummify-Max this out last. This is a skill shot and used to set up all combos. It does do much per level up, which is why you leave it for last.

Grasping Hands-Max this out first. This is your main source of damage, and often your killing move. It has great poke and a extremely useful slow. Your best ability.

Death Gaze-Build as it becomes available. It has a long range, does heaps of damage, and goes through walls making it very versitile.

-High Poke Potential
-Can distrupt Teamfights
-Easy combos (If you hit Mummify)
-Can do Insane Damage
-Get to judge if people go to the Abyss of the Underworld

Cons:
-No Escape or Mobility
-Locusts and Ult immbobilze you
- Mummify is a skill shot
-Easy to Gank
-Afraid of Lawnmowers

If you want to survive more. I dont think Anubis needs tank items. After all just 1 defensive item aint gonna save you from ganks, maybe could differ in 1 vs 1 situations but this is 5 v 5 teamfight mode. But if you're gonna buy one defensive item ? And then that one should be for preventing hard cc. Cuz you dont've any escape.

But imo, you have high sustain via your lifesteal and stun&slow combo .. Only thing you need is movement. Go for for 5th or 6th item.

could be good you could trade with if you want.

To be honest, if you're against a full team of squishies in arena, then with pen boots, deso and Anbuis' passive you don't really need magus. But usually I would recommend it as it means you can focus less on other pen items in the build, hence my suggested build at the bottom of that page.

You still could make use of magus. Get to dealing true damage faster. More valuable Especially at level 20, when enemies have their natural defenses.

Anubis' three damaging abilities are tick damage, meaning they do damage over time. Why wouldn't you get spear of the magus? Flat pen is great and all, but it's fairly useless against enemies that have over 100 protections (flat pen caps at 50).

Not neccesarily but I see what you mean. I find myself focusing Gaurdians or certain warriors less and focusing soft people more, yeah. But if I need to focus tanks or am facing a tanky comp, I just swap deso with magus it's an easy fix

You know Magus is good against squishies as well right? That + Anubis’ passive is pretty much true damage to squishies all game

Well yeah sure, but I like I stated in the build i just prefer spear of Deso over Magus for general play. The reason I would swap it out would be to hurt more tanks than focus on kill on squishes (Ofc I'm still doing that I am just diversifying my playstyle). I understand Magus is often more viable and generally better on a lot of gods, but I feel Deso has its niche and I like it as my 3rd item because I feel like I'm doing more

If you DON'T get Magus at all though, then I think against a very tanky team would be key.

You can get away with that in arena because most people either don't know how to or don't bother counter-building. I'd still get magus over deso, but you can have both in the same build.

Cooldown works fine for Anubis, especially when you consider this is for Arena. That's the big key here...Arena.

Definitely Magus is the important pen item, especially over Desolation. But in an Arena setting, you may need to worry less about sustain/focus, and thus Typhon's doesn't need to be built as early.

For your first build, it's good that you consider , as that item is core on him, even against squishies. Doing true damage to enemies boosts your DPS.
You can also consider this:
, , as your first three items. The insane lifesteal makes you a bit harder to kill and gives you a large power boost

For the second build, is only something you should consider if you're getting high focus from a mostly magical enemy comp (and if your support isn't building it). would probably be a better choice than in that build. I'd get as your last item.

Also, it's good to know that or the mana buff both give 10% CDR. So just keep in mind it's OK to only build 30% CDR.

Thanks for everything. I actually learned about Potion of Magical/Physical Might a month or two ago, but haven't been putting it my builds. I always buy one or two late game to max CDR and give some damage-but it's good that it's mentioned in the discussion. Also, thanks for the rep! I honestly feel like I am getting more of a feel for SMITE and posting on SMITEFire so it means a lot when you say it's good.

Forgot to mention: Be careful about the . Can get hard if you have more than 2 people, including yourself, trying to stack. But if it's just you and a hunter trying to stack, you'll be fine.

stats are mediocre for a fast paced game like Arena. 35 physical protection is nothing and 55 magical power with 10 penetration isn't that great either.
It would be more useful in the early game, but needs other items in the early game. , (aggressive), , and .

offers a good passive, but any physical damage from gods removes the passive. Just not something worth getting in my opinion.

Finally, ask yourself: Are you planning on selling either of these late game? Then IMO, there are better items you can get.

Elo's good if you're being targeted by an enemy assasin, but I thought dyn's nerf reduced its effectiveness. That and arena has such a high gold spool that bridge items aren't really needed.

Bridge items are tier 2 items rhat cost less than a full tier 3 item. They're usually bought early and replaced late. is a bridge iyem because it's cheaper than , but it doesn't have the health or protections of it.

Glad yes, void no. is also a t2 item. The difference between a t2 item and a t3 item is that the former only requires two items to fully build it while the latter requires 3. There aren't many magical t2 items, so they're not something to really worry about. Basically with you're looking for power, pen, and lifesteal with a bit of CDR thrown in and some protections if needed.

To Boogie and Gulf: I'm sorry gor being a little unclear. Whag I was trying to iterate was that Glad is a bridge, like Stone of Binding, and could be replaced with an item in the same category, like Void Shield/Void Stone. I was trying to prove undestanding with a differnet example.

Pretty much. Glad is usually replaced with an item like or late depending upon what's needed. It's picked up early because it provides good sustain for ability based warriors (basic attackers like tend to get berserkers instead). I hope this clears things up.

Dynasty had it's nerf quite a while ago. It was buffed at the start of this season. Also Celestial Helm isn't a bridge item.

Get rid of soul gem in the second build, completely unnecessary to get that item on Anubis not to mention your build has triple lifesteal which is borderline troll.

Swap place of chronos' pendant and spear of deso in the first build, add blink as an alternative/situational/non-standard relic. Add and / as alternative items. In second build swap for unless you want the movement speed from Shaman's.

Could also possibly add a third build: , , , , , . Has 30% CDR and the much needed Mantle for safety due to lack of escape and his 1 being risky to use. Completely up to you though, of course.
