Early Game

Rush Warrior Tabi. No reason for any other boots.

The flat penetration of the Mace tree gives Da Ji the ability to kill squishy targets quite quickly with her base combo and complements her early to mid-game pressure-heavy playstyle, while the power provides a good base for her early damage.

  • Option 1 (the most common) - Jotunn's Wrath: If you are looking for frequent ganks, or are having longer fights where you are forced to use abilities multiple times, then Jotunn's Wrath is the best early game item for her. This allows her to use her ultimate not only offensively but also defensively and for auto attack cancels. With the cooldown of her ultimate being lowered to 80 seconds, you can focus on using your combo to force a squishy target's Purification Beads and then shortly after pull them with your ultimate.

  • Option 2: (less common) - Brawler's Beat Stick: There are a few instances where you want to opt out of the high pressure that Jotunn's Wrath's cooldown gives you by getting anti-heal with Brawler's Beat Stick, these being:

    • Majority of the time your fights are going to revolve around mid-lane or duo lane. If the mid-laner, jungler or duo have medium to high self-healing or team healing, you should opt into an early Brawler's Beat Stick to shut it down and make fights easier.

    • If you are camping the enemy solo-laner who has a lot of sustain or self healing. This is good in cases of healers in the solo lane shutting them down and stealing the enemy blue buff should be a priority.

Mid Game

If you are ahead or even your best option would be Transcendence due to its high power and extra cooldown reduction.

However, if you are behind, or if your first choice for the mace was Brawler's Beat Stick, getting a quick Arondight would be the better option, because it provides high power and instant cooldown reduction. I personally value Transendence regardless as I get Jotunn's Wrath most of the time.

Your fourth item and a core item for Da Ji will always be Hydra's Lament.

Late Game

Late game your 5th and 6th items are most likely going to be Bloodforge and Heartseeker.

Depending on what you are struggling with you get these 2 items in different orders:

  • If you are struggling to survive after killing gods get Bloodforge. If you are struggling with killing gods due to higher protections, Heartseeker is better to be built first.

Last item on Da Ji you do not need any sort of defense so your last item should most likely be either:
  • more penetration - you can get Titan's Bane if you are going for those tanks and trying to burst them. Brawler's Beat Stick or Jotunn's Wrath depending on what you got first. Serrated Edge could work on Da Ji, however majority of her damage doesn't come after her abilities are down so it isn't quite cohesive.

  • more power - here I would usually get Shifter's Shield as it is high power and adds on a little bit of defense which could be helpful. You can also add items like Ancile though at that point you are already killing your enemies so the extra defense does not help much.

  • situational counter build - here you can afford your 7th item to be a Magi's Cloak if you are heavily getting CCd which you should generally not have trouble with.

Useful Combos

Useful combos:

  • General ganking and initiation - Da Ji looks to blink on her enemies or walk behind them to force their movement. After the blink she tries to auto attack cancel into her first ability and slow her target with continuous auto attacks. After the enemy dashes or leaps away Da Ji follows them with her 3, auto canceling afterwords either into the 1 if it is back up, or the 2 to follow up and slow the enemy until the 1 is back up or the enemy is dead.

  • Late-game insta-kill - Da Ki blinks in (or uses her 3rd ability) auto canceling with her 1 and immediately going into her ultimate while double tapping quickly the auto attack button, getting 4 instantaneous auto attacks and finishing off the enemy with her ultimate damage if the autos aren't enough to kill them.

  • Team fight - Da Ji looks to execute the carries, these being the mages, squishy assassin's or hunters while using her ultimate to burn Purification Beads or kill the carry if their Purification Beads are down.

  • Da Ji counter-siege initiation - Da Ji is looking to blink in, burn as many Purification Beads as possible and escape from the fight looking to reinitiate with her 3 and burn down the carries.

Useful Tips:

Useful combos:

  • Da Ji is a heavy auto attack cancel god meaning that each of her abilities are quick and her auto attacks are her main form of damage so Hydra's Lament is a must buy.

  • Her 2nd ability increases her movement speed and makes her take less damage from abilities from the back (this includes Nu Wa's and Neith's ultimates).

  • Her ultimate gives you a free 2x auto cancel with the double pre-fire of the cast, meaning she gets 2 quick autos before her ultimate goes up which is hard to execute but quite useful.

  • Da Ji's early game is better than most gods. She can box quite a few characters, and a fight early on her lvl 3 gank is also quite potent.

  • Late game your job is not going to be the Purification Beads burner most of the time but the true assassin that kills carries.

  • Da Ji favors high power more so than high penetration.

  • Da Ji should not build critical strike items as her power helps her high ability damage and her autos which crit does not.

  • Da Ji auto attacks and auto cancels but is not an AA based god, so Qin's Sais and similar builds do not work on her.

  • Getting a lot of defense on Da Ji is not smart as she needs high power to kill squishies and has a ton of mobility to get out of fights.

  • Her ultimate gives her 9 seconds of target immunity, and 10s of CC immunity.

  • In the mid or late game it is smart to cancel your 2 early in order to get the quick auto attack afterward. This is generally smarter to do after you get Hydra's Lament but in some cases you can do it even before.

Change Log

Patch 7.10 - She is as strong as before and the nerf to Hide of the Nemean Lion helps her out ever so slightly but nothing changed about the build or her.

Solid work Cam. Good general explanations and solid build. I also don't exactly get the DoT explanation, but when your priority is CDR (Jotunn's) or anti-heal (Brawler's) it probably doesn't even matter in getting The Crusher, since there are also higher priority items anyway.

Not too bad, maybe list an example build at the bottom showing a mixture of the early mid and late game options in order for newer players to get an understanding. Some other items I've thought to add as situationals or alternatives are: The Crusher, Mantle of Discord, Void Shield, and The Sledge; Not saying that you need to add those but there are cases where they can be built on Da Ji, as well as most Assassins.

Edit: By not too bad I meant good work, it's just my habitual 'saying'.

I've actually noted that it is not advisable to build defense on her as well as the crusher in particular being the wrong option becuase it goes against her playstyle and makes no sense because majority of her damage comes from dots so by getting crusher you are making it easier for people to counter her. Void shield used to be a good option as she was targeting squishies, however nowadays it's way less valuable for it's stats as she needs the extra power. And sledge simply slows down her build path. The reason i tried to make the build options relatively narrow is so that new players could understand which items she needs to be played in a proper playstyle expanding it with too many niche items would be quite contra productive.

The Sledge is good on her? I thought she was usually built as a bursty assassin and not a bruiser one.
