Skill Order

Standard Leveling Up Order (For Conquest)

  • Start with Tidal Surge due the lower cooldown and same damage of Whirlpool.

After that, follow this priority
  1. (For wave clear and high damage while cripples the enemy)
  2. (For movespeed and increase your passive)
  3. (For damage proposing only)

  • As soon as available to enhance the damage

Burst Damage Leveling Up Order

  1. (For wave clear and high damage while cripples the enemy)
  2. (For extra damage on your combo)
  3. (For movespeed and increase your passive)

  • As soon as available to enhance the damage

Skills Combos

Wave clear

More than enough to clear the wave. Put Whirlpool in the center of the wave to clear it and finish with Tidal Surge if you really feel you need it 'cause you will waste so much mana clearing the wave so I recommend finish with basic attacks whenever possible. With Book of Thoth full stacked you will have a lot of mana so then you can start casting this without think about your mana.

Poking your enemy

Whirlpool will force your enemy stop hitting you (mainly with basic attacks) and start to move out of it, then you upgrade your Trident and try to hit him with all three basics.

Killing your enemy

Whirlpool will cripple your enemy while does damage, then you RELEASE THE KRAKEN! and since your enemy are crippled you can put the center exactly on your enemy, then after the knockup you fire Tidal Surge and activates Trident to gain some movespeed to chase the enemy and some extra basic attacks.

How to play

Early Game

  • You are VERY WEAK and a easy target until level 2/3/4 and 5, SO AVOID FIGHT.
  • Try to clear the wave as soon as possible, and try to don't take damage from the wave. If the enemy cleared his wave first, retreat to your tower.
  • High recommend you take the damage buff. If you see that there is a chance of the enemy take your buff, then do it even before your jungler comes. If this chance is not possible, wait for him.
  • In teamfights try to participate from some distance and run for your life using Trident if someone focus you.
  • PUT WARDS ON THE MAP to avoid be Ganked!!
  • Poke your enemy as soon as possible (See the "poking combo" on Combos Section) and be careful doing it, he might call for help and put you in seriously trouble.
  • FOCUS ON FARMING, you need to get big as soon as possible so every farm you see, do it if possible (camps or minions waves), especially the camps on the right and left side of mid lane.
  • Be careful to don't die. IF THE ENEMY GETS BIGGER THAN YOU, YOU WILL SUFFER SO MUCH.
  • Ask for help every time you need, and don't do anything that can compromise yourself.
  • Remember that you have a low health pool and 0 defenses early game so "be smart"

Mid Game

  • Now you do a decent damage, probably you are killing a minions wave without problems using Whirlpool.
  • Now it's time to become a little aggressive. Your damage scales very well now (mainly with the build I did). You will see your basic attacks (with Trident) doing very good basic attacks and it surprises the most part of the enemy. Squishy target should be dying extremely easy for you if you hit your entire combo (including the center of kraken). Time to shine.
  • REMEMBER THAT OBJECTIVES ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN KILLS, so it's time to start do rotate, taking down towers, and kill with your team jungle bosses such as gold fury and fire giant.
  • ALWAYS try to participate of teamfights now, 'cause your skills ARE VERY USEFUL to the team and do a VERY GOOD damage.
  • Now it's a nice moment to start rotate to surprise enemies and release some krakens!!!

Late Game

  • Time to group up.
  • Now you are stronger than ever so, time to keep shining.
  • Use wisely your skills now 'cause they are powerful and can change the games's destiny.
  • Stay with your team helping them and now, more than ever, participate in the team fights combining your skills with theirs.
  • Unfortunately, you are very squishy, so YOU DIE VERY FAST at late game, BUT, you can counter it by playing safe behind your teammates. So, as long as you don't try to be a front line and stay together with you team you will still being a killing machine.
  • As you should notice, a single Whirlpool combined with the center of the kraken can also kill a full health squishy target, so use it wisely.
  • Try to keep you passive always full or almost full 'cause if someone turn to you, you can active Ayrton Senna mode, I mean... Trident and just run away.

Final Considerations

"You are shark bait!" - Poseidon

My conclusion is that Poseidon is a good and easy god to play and is very welcome on mid lane and can be fun play with him as ADC. Building him right and playing with him right I'm almost sure you will always has a positive KD and will have a good match.

Following the guide I posted here you will do a nice job with him.

So let's go now, let's release a lot of krakens!

Im gonna be honest, not sure what the thought process for some of these builds were, especially building book of thoth.

First build: Telkhines should straight up just be shaman's ring. Your build also caps cdr. Sell cdr boots and magus lategame for pen boots and obsidian shard, as the flat pen from magi boots and deso should be enough for squishies.

2nd build: Why get book of thoth and give yourself such a weak early game?

3rd build: Swap Telkhines for Shamans.

4th build: Getting Bancrofts in a tank shred build... I would Switch place of pendant and bancrofts around and trade bancrofts for tahuti if you want a "tank shred" build. Maybe even Reaver over tahuti but I don't know how much damage you still get from Reaver after nerfs.

5th build: Building warlocks staff on most mages is not a good option, that goes for poseidon too.

6th build: ADC build, but no bancrofts.... Here's what I would build: Pen boots, Bancrofts, Spear of Magus/Demonic Grip, Hastened, Telkhines, Chronos' Pendant.

For Speed elixir replacements for the mid builds consider obsidian, tahuti, hastened, mantle, magi's.

Neither me :v
  1. Does Shaman worth as a late game item?

  2. Just trying to offer some different builds. Some times you can be ahead and want to stack book and make yourself even stronger late game.

  3. K

  4. Reaver is not doing a good amount of damage in mages that spam skills. I used to take around 300~400 damage from it and now in the same situations it is doing only 150~200. However mages that doesn't spam skill it still good.

  5. This build was made to hold some burst damage due the high HP you will have. Might be useful when there is a Loki on the match.

  6. K, I will change it.

Thanks for the feedback

5. Loki is easier to counter in season 6. He has much less burst. Build Mantle of Discord for him.

You can probably swap out Shoes of Focus for Shoes of the Magi so you get that early pen in your first build. I'd sell them for focus late game though.

A nice point, as I said, I'm waiting season 6 to go in depth on item discuss. I like and prefer focus due the mana and cdr, 2 helpful things on him to have often Trident for escape/damage and his mana consumption that is high. Although, I can't deny that magi is a great option too for high early pressure. So the player can choose what he wants, early pressure and be more aggressive or survive and be more passive. I'll put a mention on notes about it.
