Skills Combos

Wave Clear (For Solo Only)/Poking your enemy

The combo to clear the minions wave. Usually more than enough to clear the wave and it also provides an Insta clear at end of early/mid game until the late game. Can also be used to poke your enemy. First you reduce the protections with Ghastly Breath and put all heads ready for the next step, then you apply the (true) damage from Paralyzing Spit.

Do not use this combo for wave clear as support or you will do the last hit on minions and wouldn't be able to stack your blessing/will make your ADC suffer.

Wave Boost (Support)

This is what you will use to help your ADC clear the wave. This is usually more than enough. If you can, try to hit the wave and your enemy with this skill.

Peel to Kill (Surprise)

This is what you will use to prepare an enemy to die. This combo will bring the enemy to the position you've marked, remove his magical protections and stun it up to 2 secs (If you hit everything) and due the blink, enemies usually don't have coordination/time to avoid it putting them in a situation "Or you use Purification Beads or you die"

Peel to Kill (Normal)

This is what you will use to prepare an enemy to die. This combo will bring the enemy to the position you've marked, remove his magical protections and stun it up to 2 secs (If you hit everything). This can put the enemy in a situation "Or you use Purification Beads or you die" but they will see you coming so I recommend you use this if you somehow get the enemy distracted or if they already used their escape or beads.

Killing an enemy (alone, recommended for solo)

You will have to poke your enemy and when he is low life, you go and cast this combo to get a kill.

How to play

Early game
  • (For support role only) The art of support: As the name suggest you are a Support which means you have to help other people, mainly the ADC, your partner-in-lane. Avoid farm alone, kill the wave minions of your ADC, getting the last hit of anything (mainly minions wave) and try don't get the kill, give it to your ADC. Remember that although you are important, supports CANNOT CARRY the game late game, but ADCs can, so help your ADC get bigger as soon as possible.

  • Watch you Health and Mana closely: Watch closely your health and mana bar. Cerb without mana is nothing and with a low health bar is an easy target at early game. Don't try to force, if you see yourself without sustain (health/mana) return base. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY!

  • Be careful with the mini-gods...I mean minions: Early fights usually happens with minions around. When you attack the enemy god, their minions turn to you and start to hit you. Be careful. Minions at early game are almost like gods and can do more damage than the enemy god (mainly the ranged ones) so be careful fighting around enemy minions, also you can use this tactic in your favor, trying to force the enemy fight near your minions.

  • Be aggressive: At early game you do a lot of damage (combining Ghastly Breath followed by a certain Paralyzing Spit) so use it at your advantage. You can probably force your enemy go to base and if he is squishy you can even get a kill!!!

  • Be careful attacking the enemy tower: Different from Ratatoskr that can get out of any situation just by using Through the Cosmos, you can't do it. If the enemy get you inside his tower you are at a serious risk. Just attack the tower if you know that is safe to do so.

  • Never dive a tower at early game: Diving a tower at early game is a difficult task without defenses. NO MATTER WHAT EASY THE KILL IS, DON'T GO.There are high chances of dying in the process and even die without the kill. A tower shot is good part of your HP at early game so be careful, remember that you are really slow.
Mid game
  • Your rotations are important: As soon as possible (when you destroy the enemy tower) start to rotate and gank other lanes. Remember: Your ultimate is so powerful and useful so don't be afraid of use it in teamfights/to burn enemy beads. If support you can start to rotate early, as soon as you feel you little baby...I mean ADC is capable to stay alive alone.

  • Invades: Invade is the tactic of try to steal farms of the enemies such as buff and jungle camps. You can easily do it and mainly if you have cooldown you can try do this. Remember that your lane is priority so invades are only possible after clear you wave just because the wave gives much more XP and gold. Your priority to invade must be the enemy blue buff. A lot of characters are mana hungry and controlling it can be a nice way to win the lane/force your enemy retreat or play safer. You can risk yourself and go to steal other camps like the enemy speed, but be careful to don't die ;) .

  • Help your teammates with their objectives: Although you are not a carry, you can really force enemies retreat play safer and it can be helpful to your allies destroy their objectives.

  • Diving towers: Dives are possible now are possible now that you have physical defenses. Try to poke your enemy before the dive then you just go and finish the job.

  • Combining skills and Defending Objectives: Try to combo your skills with your teammates to defend/attack objectives such as Gold Fury. Use Blink Rune + Stygian Torment to land into the battle surprising the enemies.
Late game
  • Time to Group up: At late game group up with your team. Stay ahead and try to protect them. Although you are a tank walk alone late game is a big invite to the enemy team kill you.

  • Tanking: At late game be careful tanking. You can take a good amount of damage and capable to tank entire towers or phoenixes, however you can't heal yourself easily so be careful to don't tank it and die right after.

  • Focus the Squishy targets: You usually can still have damage and still very tank, so squishy targets, although they have a good damage, probably will suffer in your hands since you do a considerable damage and do not take much damage (mainly with bruiser builds).

  • Be the frontline: Stay ahead of your team to start the fights and try to tank as much as possible for them get kills.

  • Don't forget the objectives: Firegiant and gold fury are important objectives that can be really important late game so don't forget to do them asap. Also, don't forget to call your teammates to attack the titan/phoenixes/towers when it is possible.

Final Considerations

"Who's a good boy? I'ma a good boy!!!" - Pup Patrol Cerberus

Art by Paulo-Namikaze via DeviantArt

My conclusion is that Cerb is working very good at solo lane (An A to A+ solo laner), and still a good character at support (an A to A+ support) and can be a very fun character to play in both roles.

Following the quick guide I posted here you will do a nice job with him in both roles.

I play with a lot of mages on my team and sometimes an assassin or two (We usually group up). What would you recommend for Arena?

I would recommend the Solo Builds to you 'cause they fit perfectly fine in this mode (same for joust)

CDR, maybe Gem of Isolation (for the breath), Horrific Emblem/ Heavenly Wings. It really depends upon the matchup and what your assassins need: do they need help chasing? The slows/haste will help. Do they need someone to CC their target? CDR. Do they need someone to peel/block? Protections and health. Because Cerberus has a good bit of CC in his kit (all but one of his abilities applies some type of CC), I'd get an early Stone of Binding right after boots and keep it until/unless I needed something else.

It's usually a focus on slows for me with maybe an item for CDR, so that helps thanks.

How does Shoes of Focus, Stone of Binding, Gem of Iso, Thebes, Void Stone, and Mantle of Discord sound?

You plan on putting this up for the contest?

Yep. I'm doing (at least trying to) a deep revision on my guides until the contest ends so all my guides would be ok with the rules. (However I doubt they will win, EXCEPT Love, find your mark!)

It would need to be updated first.

I wouldn't get Breastplate of Valor in the Support build, but Spirit Robe instead. I'm also not a fan of Pestilence being recommended 100% of the time, since it's a counter item and Cerberus already counters healing with his passive. I'd replace Pest with Gem of Isolation.

I'd also put Gem of Iso in the recommended and agressive builds for Solo.

I know the BoV has controversial opinions but Cerb definitively needs the cooldown (he has VERY LONG COOLDOWNS). His skills are REALLY useful for the team and you will need them asap.

About Pestilence, it brings to you something to potencialize even more your passive canceling a very good part of enemy healing (includes the HP5/potions and of course the lifesteal). So this combo counter a lot of characters that build lifesteal, usually the ADC and a big part of the mages. So I guess generically talking, it is a good item to be built in mid/late game for him.

Gem of Isolation is not missing. It is there in both roles as an offensive option in both cases.

You can get CDR with more useful items, like Shoes of Focus, Spirit Robe and Mantle of Discord, and maybe even Genji's Guard if you want to get 40% without Potion of Magical Might. I don't know, I REALLY hate BoV in support builds.

I know Gem of Iso is listed, but I meant you should put it in the listed builds, not in the alternative items :p

Solid guide, Myst.

There are some situational items missing, but with the Support and Solo role it's a pain to list them all as so many are match-up dependent.

Support doesn't really need Breastplate of Valor, that's more a counter-solo item. I'd swap it out for Spirit Robe. Also, you're still listing Shoes of the Magi in support, it's mainly a solo item.

If I'm reading Ghastly Breath correctly, Cerberus shreds up to 18/24/30/36/42 if all 3 "ticks" hit, so he doesn't really need Shoes of the Magi. I'd drop it and use either Shoes of Focus in solo or Reinforced Shoes in duo unless I can get away with focus. You can also get Traveler's Shoes if you need the extra MS for rotating or getting back to lane because your ADC is being pushed out regularly.

Void Stone was pretty much always an early pickup, especially now with its price increase and protection reduction. I'd get it 2nd or 3rd after boots depending on whether or not I needed the protections from Sovereignty or if I was in solo. It's pretty much a must in solo, but support can probably skip it for Heartward Amulet for magical protections; that or Pestilence if anti-heal is needed and solo didn't pick it up.

There is only one place where Meditation Cloak is actually useful and that's in assault. I wouldn't even consider it for other modes because it doesn't bring enough to the table. I'd start with either Heavenly Wings or Magic Shell depending upon the matchup and I'd even upgrade them if I thought it would be helpful.

You forgot to list starters: support should always get Guardian's Blessing unless you're absolutely sure your ADC will get pushed back far enough for the enemy duo to invade your purple buff and/or red fairly regularly, then you can get Mage's Blessing. Solo should go with mage's unless you're worried about being out-pressured, then guardian's is fine.

Gauntlet of Thebes should be bought 3rd or 4th unless you're ahead enough to not need the protections from sov or HW. Sure Thebes got a buff, but you still need to stack it and it doesn't provide much of anything until it is. For reference, both Sov and HW give you more protections that are online as soon as you buy them (60 for the former and 70 for the later) and they both only have 25 less health. Plus they're both aura items so you're helping out your team earlier. You may have mentioned selling your shoes and getting the speed pot as well as Thebes, but you should separate it and put it in its own section labeled "sell boots late and buy these items". You should also make a note that the speed pot is generally for when the game goes over 45 minutes or so, or you're at 40% CDR with shoes: you can sell your shoes, get both the speed pot and the 500 pot, then buy something else to finish your build. You'll need at least 2k plus whatever you need for your last item before you consider this, though.

Good job, Myst. I may be wrong about what I said, but we're all here to learn, eh? :)

xmysterionz (49) | February 21, 2019 5:33pm
Ok let discuss. About Shoes, notice that in support role where I focus his breath I use focus and in solo where I DO NOT focus the breath I use magi since the cooldown will come sooner by breastplate + yoi have the blue buff giving you 10 percent.

About Void I totally agree and 'bout meditation, yes, it's especially put for assault mode, I should have written it on notes, my bad (although I think ot can be useful in some specific matchups in conquest).

Bran already talked about the start, I will add it later bit for support I would always buy guardian's blessing and in solo I would switch between warrior's blessing and mage's blessing.

For last I still thinking how to mention the elixir of speed and the replacement items. Thanks for the suggestions.

Thank you for your feedback :)

Regarding Ghastly, keep in mind Myst is prioritizing his 1 first in Solo. This means only 18 flat pen equivalence. 10 extra pen from Magi can be functional, and you're getting 10% CDR from the mana buff.

Gulfwulf (66) | February 21, 2019 4:51pm
I can see it in solo, but it definitely doesn't have a place in support.

Looking great overall.

One thing you forgot is to advise on starting items for both roles, at least from what I can see.

You might also consider adding Emperor's Armor to the list, but with his more offensive focus, maybe you don't want to.

Oni Hunter's Garb is definitely missing.

I know you say you can delay Thebes if you want in the Support build, but I'd probably suggest against that as 2nd item in your example build, unless you switch Shoes of Focus to Reinforced Shoes...Focus then Thebes keeps you squishy for a while.

xmysterionz (49) | February 21, 2019 5:21pm
Oh f***, I really forgot the starts. It is so mechanical and easy to me that I forget to put here, my bad :p

Emperors is not an item that I like but I definitely can consider it. Oni is in solo. I think this is more a solo item than a support one. When I add the itemization I will discuss about it. Got it about thebes, I will change it.

Thanks Bran.

I also noticed that you didn't do a "chapter" this time. Are you okay :v ?
