This is my first guide on Smitefire, and Anubis is by far my favourite god so I decided to make a guide for him seeing that most Anoobeeses in SMITE really don't know how to build their items or level their skills.
If you guys have any questions or tips either post in the comments below, or message me ingame. My IGN is HasenDarkness.
PROS
- Great damage output even if build tanky
- Can harass enemy players early game
- His ultimate can easily wreck tanks
CONS
- Needs to stay still to channel his Death Gaze and
Plague of Locusts, which are his most damaging abilities
- No escape, even though he can slow with Grasping Hands and stun with
Mummify.
- Missing Mummify makes you vulnerable and an easy target.
SORROW
All of Anubis' abilities steal physical and magical protection from the target. In addition, Sorrow grants Anubis an additional 30% reduction to all crowd control durations (does not stack with Resolve).
Ability: Buff/Debuff
Affects: Self/Enemy
Stolen per Tick: 7
Duration: 5 seconds
Max Stacks: 3
A very great passive, having 30% CC reduction without any item. Also this makes Anubis a little tankier even when built full damage.
PLAGUE OF LOCUSTS
A plague of locusts bellows forth from Anubis' mouth, smothering all enemies in the area and doing damage every .5s for 3s.
Ability: Cone
Affects: Enemy
Damage Type: Magical
Damage per Tick: 35/50/65/80/95 (+40% of your magical power)
Cost: 60/70/80/90/100
Cooldown: 15/14/13/12/11 seconds
This is Anubis' most damaging ability besides Death Gaze. I grab it third, to kill the remaining melee minions or to harass the player, and max it second, to be able to damage the enemy early game. Cast it always after using
Mummify on the target and putting
Grasping Hands under it.
MUMMIFY
Anubis fires a bandage projectile, mummifying and stunning his target.
Ability: Projectile
Affects: Enemy Gods
Stun Duration: 1.2/1.4/1.6/1.8/2 seconds
Cost: 60
Cooldown: 18/17/16/15/14 seconds
This is Anubis' only Crowd Control ability besides grasping hands. After hitting the player, the target is stunned for 1-2 seconds, making you able to easily land you abilities. I grab it second, to get away from the enemy if he/she tries to damage you, and max it third, since you don't need the 1 second bonus stun because you're buying Gem of Isolation.
GRASPING HANDS
Anubis calls for help from the underworld as hands penetrate the ground and claw at his enemies, doing damage slowing every .5s for 2s.
Ability: Ground Target
Affects: Enemy
Damage Type: Magical
Radius: 20
Damage per Tick: 25/40/55/70/85 (+35% of your magical power)
Slow: 25%
Cost: 70/80/90/100/110
Cooldown: 15/14/13/12/11 seconds
With this ability you can harass players and kill minions without closing distance, which is very useful. Grasping Hands also applies a slow of 25% which grows up to 50% with
Gem of Isolation. To harass enemy players with it,
Mummify the target and immediately drop it under the target. You can use it without
Mummify, but the target will most likely leave the area without taking all the damage ticks. I grab it first and also max it first, even though it does less damage than
Plague of Locusts, because you can clear the minion wave from lot farther. At level 4 of this ability you should be able to clear the minion wave relatively fast.
DEATH GAZE
Anubis focuses all of his energy into a piercing gaze, doing damage to all enemies in the path, every 0.3 seconds for 3 seconds.
Ability: Line
Affects: Enemy
Damage Type: Magical
Damage per Tick: 70/85/100/115/130 (+45% of your magical power)
Cost: 90
Cooldown: 90/85/80/75/70 seconds
This is the ability that makes Anubis famous. Death Gaze does a HUGE amount of damage, makes Anubis CC immune and unable to move for the duration. What's great about this ability is that you can move you camera to shoot in a different direction while casting it, just like with
Plague of Locusts.
Never use this ability unless the target is half health or less, mummified and with grasping hands under. Else it can be a waste. The only exception is when combined with Hades or Ares' Ultimate. You can also use it after you let the target really low on health with other abilities and it is trying to run. If you have good aim and good internet connection, you will slay the target this way too. With Death Gaze and
Grasping Hands you can solo the Minotaur if all the towers and Pheonixes are down. If he still didn't die, use
Plague of Locusts to finish it off. Max it whenever you can (at level 5, 9, 13, 17, 20).
Vampiric Shroud is a must in gamemodes like Conquest and Joust (I do not recommend getting it in Domination and Arena since you can always return to base, therefore buying it being a waste of gold). It helps your lane sustain a lot, and sometimes even removes your need of mana/health pots. You can sell it whenever you want, though it is recommended to sell it when you want to buy the last item.
Shoes of the Magi should always be your next priority since you have no instant escape ability and you need the movement speed bonus. I recommend getting
Shoes of the Magi over
Shoes of Focus since the bonus penetration helps you lane clearing and boosts your player damage.
Chronos' Pendant is a must, it gives magical power, MP5 and 25% cooldown reduction, which means higher sustain, higher damage and a more often
Death Gaze and
Mummify.
Breastplate of Valor is best to get when physical enemy players damage you more than you'd like, while still getting the mana sustain and cooldown reduction you'd get from buying
Chronos' Pendant.
Gem of Isolation is a great item that will slow enemies even more when trapped in your
Grasping Hands. Without this item you might need maxing
Mummify over
Plague of Locusts, since the enemy will most likely escape before applying all the damage ticks.
Hide of the Nemean Lion it is a great item against physicals, as they will damage to themselves when attacking you. The item grants you health and a lot of physical protection, which is great.
Bulwark of Hope is a must when getting too much damage from magical and/or physical enemy players. It may give you magical protection, but also grants health and a shield that reduces 50% of both types of damage when under 25% health.
Spear of the Magus is a great penetration item when the enemy got magical protection. It also grants some magical power.
Obsidian Shard is also a good penetration item, get it if the enemy got loads of magical protection (over 200), better than
Spear of the Magus. If you still don't do enough damage, replace an item with
Spear of the Magus, this way having a huge penetration boost from both items.
Bancroft's Talon gives a lot of magical power and some lifesteal, increasing your sustain. Another reason to get this would be the passive, which converts a percentage of your missing health to magical power.
Soul Reaver is also a good item because of the passive, but I don't like it as much as
Bancroft's Talon. You choose which of them you want to get and which one fits your playstyle.
Rod of Tahuti is a must for any mage. It grants 125 magical power and some mana regeneration. But the real reason this is a must is because of the passive, which increases your magical power by 25%. You'll see a huge boost in damage after getting this. Grab it earlier if you want to, but I always get it last.
Agni, I've played twice against him and got beaten both times. Agni is a very strong enemy against Anubis since you need to stay still to damage him, making you an easy target for all his abilities.
Anhur is the most played god, and therefore you will meet him frequently. You just use the harass tactic and damage him. When he is half health or lower,
Mummify and use
Grasping Hands. Use
Plague of Locusts if he didn't use the leap recently, and if he did, use
Death Gaze.
Anubis, against him use the same tactics to harass and kill him. The hardest thing to do is dodging his
Mummify. After successfully doing that he's an easy target.
Ao Kuang became a huge threat since the 50% slow buff on his SQUALL. You definitely need magical protection against his TORNADOES and his SPIRIT'S TEMPEST. Unlike most gods, the SQUALL buff affects Anubis alot since he has no escape ability and
Mummify or slow wont help him with anything. Try using the same tactics and you will eventually win.
Aphrodite is a strong enemy if she gets
Polynomicon. The only problem is that if you catch her with
Mummify and
Plague of Locusts she will most likely use her
Love Birds on you, healing herself for a large amount and doing some damage, making your effort of harassing only lead to damaging yourself. Again, use the same tactics and get magical protection and you will eventually win.
Apollo is an easy target, like most ranged carries against Anubis. Use the same tactics as for
Anhur and you will easily win.
Arachne is an easy target if you successfully dodge her
Cocoon and focus her spiders, the only problem remaining her
Drain Life, which can make you totally miss your ultimate or
Plague of Locusts if she hops on your head while channeling. If she does hop on your head try carrying her in your tower range, minions range or in your
Grasping Hands. Try keeping distance, dodging her ultimate and you will win.
Ares will probably never be played in mid lane or Joust. But if you meet him, just use the same tactics and get
Purification Beads for his
No Escape.
Artemis is a strong 1v1 god, not against Anubis though. She is an easier target than most ranged carries since she has no leap or dash.
Athena mage build hurts alot, so get magical defense and
Purification Beads for her
Confound. If she does go as tank, it will be even easier since she cannot damage you, and you'll need magical penetration. Use the same tactics and you will win.
Bacchus is a tank so you'll most likely never meet him. I guess you need to use the same tactics as for
Anhur and that's it, as I don't see him as a threat even when building damage.
Bakasura early and mid game isn't a threat, therefore you will need to hurry and kill his towers in Conquest or the Minotaur in Joust and let him get fed or wait until late game else he will kill you hard. Just run from him when he activates his
Butcher Blades, get defense and you will eventually prevail.
Bastet is the least played god, and you will probably not meet her. However, use the same tactics as for
Anhur and that's it.
Chang'e has a lot higher sustain and can harass you with
Crescent Moon Dance while still damaging the minion wave, but she does a lot less damage than you and her healing is not a problem. Her
Moonlit Waltz is just like a leap that lasts longer, so use the same tactics as for
Anhur.
Chronos He does a lot of damage with his
Time Rift, but it is easy to dodge unless stunned with
Stop Time since it has very small radius and a delay before it will explode and do damage.
Stop Time is also easy to dodge unless he is very close to you since it is a big projectile that moves very slow. Use the same tactics as always, but NEVER use your ultimate unless he used his
Rewind. The only exception is when he is 1/4 of his health and just begun casting it, giving you the opportunity to kill him during the cast time.
Cupid, just like any ranged carry he should be easy to kill after he used his
Flutter.
Fenrir, since he is a melee god, you can target him easily with
Mummify and harass him alot early game. The only problem is his
Ragnarok ultimate since he grows massive, damages you and carries you wherever he wants for 2 seconds. Get
Purification Beads for this ability and you should be okay.
Freya is a very easy target, she can barely push minions and barely damage you unless you let her get fed or wait until late game. If you do wait until late game you don't stand a chance, even if you killed her 20 times and she didn't kill you once, late game you cannot win against her. (Joust mostly, in Conquest if she aint fed and you killed her alot she wont be a problem the whole match). Even though, if she manages to get you to half health or less, she will most likely use her
Valkyrie's Discretion where she flies up in the air and shoots down 4 projectiles that do huge damage, while making her invulnerable to all damage. Get
Aegis Amulet for this and you should be fine.
Guan Yu, also known as Guan New (since 28/08/2013), unlike his old version, he is a much higher threat than before. Before he did little damage while built mage, his ultimate could have been easily avoided with
Purification Beads. Those times are gone though. Guan New is a much higher threat, dealing huge damage with all his abilities and his ultimate being hardly avoided. Basic attacks are now also something you should worry about, since he became physical. But as long as you keep distance and use the basic tactics it should be okay. Keep in mind that he has a short dash, and that the only way to actually avoid a part of the damage from
Cavalry Charge is to use
Aegis Amulet.
Hades is vulnerable when his
Death From Below is on cooldown. He can harass you alot early game if you stay near you minions with his
Devour Souls and
Death From Below combo. Stay away from minions and get
Purification Beads for his
Pillar of Agony and you should prevail.
He Bo does a lot of damage with ALL his abilities. Getting magical defense is a must. What's good for Anubis though is that you cannot be knocked up by
Waterspout while casting
Plague of Locusts. He will try harassing you alot with
Waterspout, so be sure to get a lot of health pots. Use the same tactics, and you should be able to kill him easily since he has no dash/leap besides
Crushing Wave
Hel is a really strong enemy if played well. The good thing is that most Hels are noobs, since she is one of the hardest if not the hardest god to play. Try to not be obvious when trying to
Mummify, as she can just use
Hinder / Cleanse and not get stunned at all. She has huge sustain and is a better pusher than you, and can harass you alot. Her
Repulse / Inspire does a lot of damage/healing, making her a strong enemy. Good thing is that she has no dash/leap.
Hinder / Cleanse is her only way of crowd control, and the slow is just 25%, though it is enough for her to reach you and damage you. You will most likely need to max
Mummify before
Plague of Locusts because she can cleanse herself of the slow from
Gem of Isolation and
Grasping Hands
Hercules is a god I never fought in Joust, but again he cannot knock you up while you're channeling
Plague of Locusts. He is a very bad pusher, but has a lot of sustain. His dash,
Driving Strike is small, but it stuns you for 1 second and does some damage. Same tactics as for
Anhur.
Hun Batz is beatable even without
Purification Beads for his ultimate, but it's best to not risk and get the item since
Fear No Evil can last long enough for him to be able to kill you. He has a leap and can teleport to you using his
Sacred Monkey, so use the same tactics as for
Anhur.
Eset does alot of damage with
Spirit Ball and can get you to half health just with it, so try dodging it. It shouldn't be hard since it moves just as slow as Chronos'
Stop Time. Problem is she can use her
Dispel Magic, which is instant cast and has a high range and small radius, to silence, slow and debuff your protections and buff hers. This way she'll cancel you from casting
Plague of Locusts.
As long as you dodge her Spirit Ball she should be an easy target
Kali has no crowd control abilities and almost nobody plays her. She's underpowered and an easy target.
Loki is an easy target if you do know how to play Anubis or if you know his abilities and such, but if you are a beginner he'll kill you hard. He has huge damage and can towerdive you easily with his
Assassinate. If you see him
Vanish and coming after you, use
Plague of Locusts. If you see the damage numbers, throw
Mummify at him while he's invisible and then kill him.
Ne Zha is a really powerful enemy. He does a hell lot of damage with his
Wind Fire Wheels, and you cannot escape or heal for the duration of it. He will most likely damage you while clearing minions with Universal Ring Toss until you are half health, then he will try jumping to you with
Armillary Sash, and then will use his ultimate. He is a melee god, so it should be easy to damage him. Just try to stay as far from him and your minions so you wont get damage by his ring as possible.
Neith is even easier to defeat than other ranged carries even though she has BACKFLIP because most Neiths use BACKFLIP to create a
Broken Weave and clear the minions fast in combo with
Spirit Arrow. Strike whenever her Backflip is on cooldown.
Odin is an easy target. He is a melee god so it is very easy. The worst thing it can happen is to get trapped in his
Ring of Spears when low health.
Poseidon has no leap or dash and is squishy, so it should be easy to kill. Get
Aegis Amulet to not get damage from his
Release The Kraken! and use the basic tactics.
Ra does a high amount of damage and missing your
Mummify can easily make you to die. If you don't miss though he doesn't stand a chance.
Sobek You will never see him in Joust or Mid Lane.
Thor, just like all melee gods, he's easy to kill. You can only beat him if you get physical defense though. His damage output is very large even if he is fully tank so get defense and penetration and you will win.
Tyr, just like all the new gods, he is still overpowered and does a huge amount of damage. I didn't test it though, but I think he is not able to knock you up with
Fearless or
Power Cleave while casting
Plague of Locusts. Even though he is overpowered, he is one of the easiest targets for Anubis. Use the basic tactics.
Vamana Melee god, tanky, but easy to kill because his only escape is his
Colossal Fury which makes him huge with a lot of defense and regen and crowd control immune. He also gets +140 physical power so run away if you see him ulti while you're low health. He can also use
Clear The Path but the speed increase is too small to actually matter.
Vulcan, the god used by people who have ****py internet connection. He does a lot of damage with
Inferno Cannon when built tanky and his turrets die very hard. Focus his turrets though, since without them he is useless.
Xbalanque Even though he has
Rising Jaguar that makes him crowd control immunes for the duration, you are still able to damage him while he is in mid air. Also, stunning him before he is in mid air, so during the dash from
Rising Jaguar, will make him loose the ability on cooldown. Same with his
Poison Darts. Just like any ranged carry he should be easy to kill. Be careful not to feed him, as a fed Xbalanque is your worst nightmare because of his passive
Dead of Night, which grants him a permanent 5 physical power per kill, max 6 stacks.
Ymir is someone you'll rarely see him in mid lane, Joust or jungle, but as a mage he does a hell lot of damage mostly because of his passive. Stay away from him and try to run around really close to him if he tries to cast his
Frost Breath after you miss your abilites, as he will most likely miss it.
Zeus is the one everybody hates. Stay away from minions or you will get charges on you, which hurt very bad. Getting 3 charges on you will most likely get you killed. Don't basic attack him while his AEGIS SHIELD is active as you will get charges on you. Use the basic tactics and stay away from his basic attack and from your minions and you will win.

You have good builds, I really like the first.
You give the abilities, and you give match-ups. That's it. There is a lot of info on some things, and then a pass-off onto others.
In order to consider this an in-depth guide, you should give your insight on the items, why sequence of the items, and why they are good for Anubis. You should have a gameplay section, giving info and tips on how Anubis can be played.
Also, pictures and colors really pull out info that you want to get across and give detail to the guide. I suggest adding some.
All in all, this is not a bad guide, but you cannot call it an in-depth guide. I am going off of my Ao Kuang guide, so you should check it out.
I'd also consider tossing a couple scattered points into
All in all though, in depth guide, +1 imo.
