Ah Puch Build

Build 1 - Starter Items

Notes This start solves one of Ah Puch main weaknesses: mana costs.
Therefore, you can consistently use your abilities/combos early on without much hesitation. Furthermore, this means you have good sustain as you can consistently use your abilities to activate Hollow Ground for extra mana/health.

Notes This build solves one of Ah Puch main weaknesses: lack of mobility. With no escape or steroid Ah Puch has only the safety of Empty the Crypts to protect himself. Therefore, when this is on CD, the mobility from both Doom Orb and Charon's Coin will ensure a lot more safer playstyle and making you less susceptible from ganks.

Notes This build is the most meta build right now in s7 wit some small changes to fit a puch style of play. The rushing of Chronos' Pendant early on means you play really aggressive with your abilities and pull of your combos more often.

When you've finished the build sell Shoes of Focus for Rod of Tahuti and buy the Elixir of Speed to make up for the lost MS.

Situationals

Notes Magi's Cloak provides a small amount of protections and surviveability with its passive. Buy this if the enemy team has lots of CC.

Divine Ruin is a fantastic anti heal item can apply to lots of enemies at one time. Buy this if the enemy team has healing.

Obsidian Shard is the best choice for anti tank due to its passive. Buy this if the enemy team has more than one tank.

shield of regrowth is a very situational item, I'd only recommend it if the enemy team has lots of mobile gods like Mercury and there's no possible way for you to outrun them. Buy this if the enemy team has lots of mobility.

Winged Blade brings lots of surviveability and a fantastic passive when encountering slows. Buy this if the enemy team has lots of slows.

Mantle of Discord is extremely useful if the enemy team has lots of burst gods such as Set, due to it's passive and protections. Buy this if the enemy team has lots of burst gods.

Ethereal Staff is a great alternative to common mana items such as Book of Thoth and also has great utility because it's passive allows you to steal health/mana from enemy gods. Buy this if in need of a sustainable mana source.

Relics

Notes Purification Beads is a must as Ah Puch has no escape, therefore they'll help you out of stuns, slows etc and let you loose the enemy.

Aegis Amulet helps when having trouble with nuke ults like Release The Kraken!.

Heavenly Wings can be a life saver as the MS helps Ah Puch out of tricky situations. Once upgraded you can use this to support your team with a nice haste effect to AA.

Phantom Veil is essential when facing Gods such as Odin and Ymir; if Phantom Veil is on CD I'd recommend using Empty the Crypts to protect yourself instead.

Introduction/Contents

Hello fellow smite players, this is a guide for Ah Puch. I'm in no way a smite veteran or a veteran at playing Ah Puch. However I saw he is out of meta and needed some love. Therefore I took it upon myself to create a guide for him and for players to understand his role/playstyle/builds etc.

I would like to thank Nanoyam for making this comprehensive God builder guide .... https://www.smitefire.com/smite/guide/a-guide-to-creating-a-guide-11941 ....
and also any future feedback I receive, from other smitefire users, to help make this guide the best it can be.

Below are the other sections to this guide.

Now lets enter the crypts!

Items

Build 1

This section will go through the purchase order of Build 1 and I'll explain briefly what the items do and how they fit into the build.

This item list will go in the order of the purchase order shown at the beginning of the guide.

This item list will go in the order of the purchase order shown at the beginning of the guide.

Skills

Passive - Hollow Ground

Hollow Ground is an incredibly valuable passive for Ah Puch as it gives him tons of sustain and works in tandem with Corpse Explosion. Firstly, the corpses Ah Puch spawns from his abilities: Undead Surge and Fleeting Breath, can be 'consumed' for health/mana. This is great as if you're low on health/mana just use one of these abilities for easy sustain. Also, this effect scales up with your health/mana, so the more items you build containing these stats, the more sustain you will get from the corpses. Secondly, Hollow Ground also directly effects Corpse Explosion too as the more corpses you have, the more damage will be applied. So I always recommend grouping up your attacks or even pre-placing corpses around choke points/objectives so your Corpse Explosion can deal maximum damage.

1st Ability - Undead Surge

Undead Surge is another core part of Ah Puch kit as it's antiheal and scaling slow,(when combined with Gem of Isolation), can be devastating to enemies and ensures you can reliably land Corpse Explosion due to its long wind up time. Be warned though that Undead Surge can be easily juked so always start a combo off with Fleeting Breath so you can land this ability with ease.

2nd Abilty - Corpse Explosion

Corpse Explosion is a relativity weak ability on its own, however when combined with corpses from your other abilities, Corpse Explosion can deal massive amounts of damage and even one shot squishes if setup correctly. This is why I recommend restraining this ability to only be used when corpses are present; unless you're able to finish off an enemy god with just this ability alone.

3rd Abilty - Fleeting Breath

Fleeting Breath is a fantastic anti heal/poke damage ability that gives Ah Puch some versatility in his kit. It's also his most reliable ability to hit,(aside from Empty the Crypts), as this ability doesn't have much wind up time making it a reliable poke damage tool and a great 'setup' ability for your combos. Conjointly Fleeting Breath further damages any enemy gods that heal while being damaged from it as well as stunning them once the ability ends. Additionally, when in tandem with Gem of Isolation this ability becomes a tremendous utility as the stacking slow can help chase down enemies and prevent ganks.

Ultimate - Empty The Crypts

Empty the Crypts is Ah Puch signature ability and is one of the best teamfight abilities, alongside Fear No Evil, in the game. This is because you're able to close off an entire lane/objective, thus your team is able to attack/retreat at your own mercy. When combined with Gem of Isolation the stacking slow from the wraiths will be enough to force the enemy gods to retreat or take enormous damage and possibly die. This is more than enough to switch any teamfight in your favour, howbeit their is a long CD so don't use this ability sparingly.

Pros & Cons

Pros:
Cons:
  • Very squishy
  • Very mana hungry
  • His CC is unreliable
  • Heavily reliant on abilities/combos
  • No mobility/escape
  • Vulnerable to all types of CC

Damage Output

This section will go through the damage output of Ah Puch, which will include stats from all three of the builds featured in this guide.

Factors of testing:
  • The damage of said ability or AA
  • All the items of said build with max stacks (when relevant)
  • Being level 20
  • Because the damage on Empty the Crypts is really inconsistent, I calculated the the damage of 10 wraiths, to ensure a healthy average
  • All testing was done on Odin bots in jungle practice with no prior protection reduction

I'll update this as frequently as I can, when relevant information arrives.

And once again, thank you too Nanoyam for making this comprehensive God builder guide .... https://www.smitefire.com/smite/guide/a-guide-to-creating-a-guide-11941 .... without it my guide would've looked like ***.

After 60 million years I've finally updated the guide :)

I spent 6 hours on it today, everythings been updated, I will be improving the readability of the 'gameplay' section though in the near future.

Don’t rush tier 2 Warlocks on Ah Puch, he will have absolutely awful mana sustain in lane.

I manage just fine, however I'll add another start in the notes section of 'Build 2 - starter items' consisting of Mage's Blessing and Uncommon Staff plus plots, for those who can't manage Ah Puch mana well.

Don’t you start with his 1 at level 1 since the change that lets you have 2 corpses at rank 1?

Hey UPLAR,

NICE. Brand new, big ol' guide. Some comments:
  • Skill leveling looks good to me.

  • Build 1 looks great. Stacking Thoth, then CDR from Focus because you're getting high pen function in Magus 3rd. Gem is just too OP on him and looks good in the 4th spot. I'm assuming 5th and 6th, along with Shoes replacement, are all flex picks to a degree.

  • I also like that you have both a Thoth example and a Warlock's example. I think a 3rd example with no stacking would be great to see also...likely Mage's Blessing and a Magus rush. You'll be doing true damage super early.

  • One off-meta option you might consider for the situationals is Shield of Regrowth, in place of Bumba's Mask. I know it's quite a bit different in how the MS is applied, but I don't like nerfing his damage potential from that -10% damage dealt, along with the +10% damage he will take. Regrowth's MS is applied a bit differently, but fairly easily enough, I'd think, and it still has the CDR (and some health, which I'm sure he'll appreciate). Again, off-meta, but possible function. You don't have to add, just a thought.

  • To that end, other situationals you might want to consider include Mantle of Discord, Ethereal Staff, Spear of Desolation, and Shaman's Ring.

  • In the skills writeup, you might talk about the DoT damage of Fleeting Breath being key to getting the most out of Spear of the Magus's passive stacks, as well as prolonging Gem of Isolation's slow. You do mention Iso with Empty the Crypts, which is great...but although you talk about Iso forcing gods to retreat or take damage, it's also your most reliable peel tool to get people (aka ganking Jungler) off your back.

  • Good gameplay writeup. Smart to play safe early. Good tip on the early fleeting for some mana regen.

  • I think you should talk a bit more about comboing, not just in the late-game section. Also, the combo you talk about, 1-3-2, is one combo, but I think the more common (and higher damage) one would be 3-1-2. It doesn't have to be complex. Obviously the 1-2 combo is the standard for quick burst. But if you can burn an enemy's poke ability and you have Magus (and even better Iso as well), or you're not the first one to start a fight, you can initiate with Fleeting Breath, allow it to provide a couple Magus stacks, and then do the 1-2 combo for higher damage potential. Know what I mean?
Anyway, well done, would like your response and consideration of adding some other situationals, but solid overall.

UPLAR (9) | June 6, 2019 10:24am
1) I'll make a third build consisting of a Spear of the Magus rush, what do you recommend for the rest of the build? Perhaps a Rod of Tahuti rush?

2) I'll replace Bumba's Mask with shield of regrowth as I fully agree with your points. I didn't really consider this at the time of making the build so thanks for the advice.

3) I'll add all the situationals you've mentioned

4) I'll include additional information about how Fleeting Breath works in tandem with Spear of the Magus.

5) I'll fix the combos, I just put 1-3-2 because I just find it easier to land than 3-1-2 because of Undead Surge slow.

Thanks for the feedback!

Changes will occur this weekend.

Hi UPLAR,

I'm not sure I'd recommend Tahuti too early for Ah Puch...but you might try it out and see. As we were talking Zeus getting it early, I think his ability to whittle down the enemy below the 50% mark via Aegis/Chain, and THEN Detonate with the Tahuti passive bonus, is more likely than AP.

AP levels his Explosion before all others, and relies heavily on that to decrease enemy health...he doesn't put a lot of early points into Fleeting or Surge, and those won't deal enough damage to get the enemy health down by themselves...and then where Zeus' Detonate is a for-sure hit if he's got stacks, Explosion needs the nearby corpses, AND the enemy to be in range. So again, to me, AP's kit is less reliable for the Tahuti passive.

So, you'll have to deal with the lack of mana without the Thoth stacking (or even the base mana Warlock's provides). The Blessing can help some, but you might have to supplement with some extra mana potions.

Let's see...starters being Mage's Blessing, Magic Focus, 3 potions (1 health 2 mana assumed).

Complete Shoes of Focus, then complete Spear of the Magus. After that, first priority is probably Gem of Isolation, unless you really need some anti-heal ( Divine Ruin), at which point probably get Ruin then Iso. Finish up however you want again.
