Welcome

Hi there, and welcome to my first guide!

I'll say this upfront: I originally played Smite during season 3. At that time, I didn't understand the item system at all. I stopped playing after a bit of time, replacing Smite with Paragon. It wasn't until recently (the season 5.2 patch) that I came back. I do feel like I have a much better grasp on the system overall now, though I know that I have a lot to learn (such as all 80% of the gods in this game). As such, comments and suggestions are 100% appreciated.

About me:
I am a PS4 player, who has generally thrived in the support roles. As such, I have focused on playing mage supports such as Aphrodite, Chang'e, and Hel. As of currently, my worshipper level on Aphrodite is at one-star-Diamond. The game modes which I currently play revolve around: Conquest, Assault, and sometimes Siege. Lastly, I have only recently taken part in ranked conquest (and have yet to qualify) so this guide is written based off of my experiences playing Aphrodite in casual games.

Update log

Overview

Pros

*High sustain in mid-to-late game with Love Birds
*Her ultimate ( Undying Love) can get you and your tethered teammate out of some deep ****.
*Multiple methods for CC with Back Off! and Kiss
*Decent wave clear with Love Birds
*Able to heal for around 200hp per tick of Love Birds during late game
Cons

*Slightly mana hungry in early game
*Squishy, especially when consistently taking any form of hard CC
*Anti-heal items kinda kill your vibe
*Misplays in team fights could mean your whole team hates you dies

Ability Run-down
Aphrodite's passive ability, which will stack up both physical and magical protection based on the number of allied and enemy gods around her. This can be awesome for team-fights, as it adds in some protections, but be mindful! In reality, these protection stacks mitigate just enough damage to allow you to heal yourself out of a tight spot. They will not save you from a CC hell. And no, it will not protect your face...
This ability is the second ability that I will unlock (as it will allow you to then heal your carry), but the last ability I will put any extra levels into. While the movement speed buff and the jealousy damage increases are nice they are not as important as the burst damage or the 6 ticks of health needed in the middle of a team fight. Kiss is something that needs to be used strategically, and can be a little wonky at times. There have been plenty of times, especially when I was getting used to her, that I'd be in a team fight and I'd try to stun an enemy only to realize that I had tethered to a teammate right next to the enemy. Oops. Then you're just in this awkward state, staring at an enemy who isn't stunned, a teammate who should have been getting the heals, and a tether connected to a different lover ally. This generally doesn't work out too well and may result in hate from your allies.
Her knock-away ability is able to burst enemies down fairly quickly, as well as get those who have to fight in melee-range just out of reach of your ranged carry. This is the ability which I choose to level up second. Originally, I use it primarily for its ability to do just what it is called (get the enemies to back off). Come late game, I tend to use it in team-fights while connected to our front-line to help burst down the enemy they are targeting. One important thing about using this ability that way is that you need to either make sure the tank can still easily close the distance from you pushing the enemy back, or the front-liner needs to be positioned so that the enemy will be pushed towards you and the rest of your team
While this is technically Aphrodite's third ability, it is the first ability I choose to max out. Her birds offer wave clear, and poking capabilities while she is in lane. On top of that, the more levels placed into the birds the higher the tick of hp returned to you (and eventually your tethered teammate) will be.
Lastly, we have her ultimate. This ability I get, and level up, each time it is available to me. Her ultimate is a mini-sanctuary of sorts for you and your tethered ally. However, the sanctuary is fleeting, as it only lasts a second or two at max. If timed correctly you can use it to stop your ally from being pulled into the middle of the hungry enemy team, annihilated by a powerful ultimate, or stop them from taking damage just long enough to allow your birds to heal them so they don't die in front of you.

Overall, I level up my abilities in this order:

No need for Shaman's Ring, Divine Ruin (not awful but Pestilence exists, and you're support not solo), Soul Reaver (I've seen Xaliea and Variety build it in solo though) , Spear of the Magus, Chronos' Pendant and Rod of Tahuti are not items for a support. If you somehow need extra damage as support, get Void Stone for the protection reduction aura.

Gem of Isolation is ok for utility, and Pythagorem's Piece is a typical Mage support item. However, you should not be building Chronos' Pendant on Aphrodite Support, if you need CDR there is other items for it.

Your start has terrible lane sustain, so im going to suggest an alternative: Guardian's Blessing, Chalice of Healing, Chalice of the Oracle (early investment to save gold for warding). Another start is: Guardian's Blessing, Glowing Emerald, 2 x Healing Potion, 2 x Multi Potion.

Full build suggestion: Shoes of Focus, Gauntlet of Thebes, Breastplate of Valor, Rod of Asclepius, Pythagorem's Piece, Spirit Robe.

Alternative Build: Shoes of Focus, Breastplate of Valor, Lotus Crown, Heartward Amulet, Rod of Asclepius, Mantle of Discord.

The builds you have come up with look more like a mid lane build, so if you want to keep a similar style to what you have now, I would possibly rename this to a mid guide and change a few of the items.

Another thing is I see you like mage supports, so I feel you should try out Nox in the support role.

Okay, so the writing is...a bit small...but the tone of the write-up is great. I think your intro provides perfect information so the reader knows what to expect and where to use the build. I also like the simple coding, as it's generally nice to read. Just have to zoom in a bit for my poor old eyes.

Alright, some comments:
  • I know you're emphasizing the importance of Love Birds by listing and writing about it 2nd, but this may throw readers off. I personally suggest keeping the normal order of skills, but this is ultimately up to you.

  • I strongly recommend against getting Warlock's Staff or Book of Thoth when playing her in a Support role. In this role, she's always going to find the best use when tethered to a teammate...and when you need to last-hit for stacks, you're taking away crucial farm for your teammate, who honestly is more important than you (at least in getting levels up for DPS). Yes, you can take stacks here and there, but unlike some other Supports that might get an occasional solo jungle camp, you're going to want to be next to a teammate at almost all times.

I know you don't have one of these in your example build, but I'd probably opt to take them completely out of the listing.

  • One other item you might consider is Mantle of Discord. You've got Genji's Guard listed for anti-magical, but nothing for anti-physical, and it's a good chance you're going to be a main target at some point. Mantle goes very well with her kit...dual protections work well with her passive protections, and the passive might give you just enough time to give you additional breathing room (and goes well with the small radius of Back Off!.

  • Being Aphrodite, you're already asking for enemies to build anti-heal. You've got 2 directions you can take this...1) build more healing function to partially counter it, or limit your additional healing and get other items that might give you better, non-stunted function. By going for 3 lifesteal items in your example build, you're choosing option 1, and I personally feel that's asking to be shut down hard (unless the enemy team is just straight up dumb and doesn't build anti-heal at all). I personally don't think she needs lifesteal, since she's got healing in her kit, but you get 3...3!!! Now sure, that makes your own sustain great if not dealing with anti-heal, but again...you don't need that so much. Gods without healing need the lifesteal significantly more than you do.

I can see Pythagorem's Piece being functional...the aura it provides has a lot of utility, and gives you some additional health, which is nice. But the others? I'd personally avoid them.

  • Back to the concept of being a Support...in many ways, this isn't just about you being able to heal others. By you choosing a mage instead of a Guardian or Warrior, and not building tanky, you're dropping your team's overall tankiness. This can be okay if both the Solo and the Jungler happen to be tankier, but you still need to provide some of that team function. Pythag's provides that somewhat offensively, but you should still consider the aura items, at least early game. Sovereignty and Gauntlet of Thebes are both very functional overall, and Gauntlet fits a Support, in the exact inverse of how stacking items don't. You don't HAVE to do this, but it should always be an option.

  • Your item writeup doesn't mention Gem of Isolation at all. It's a good item for her overall, but as a Support, I would prioritize this less than some other items...again things like protections, or offensively via an item like Spear of the Magus. You'll get way more use out of Magus compared to your 2 "damage possibilities." You have no pen in the entirety of your build, so that will help more than any single power item will, if you want that offensive boost.

  • I'd personally say that Rod of Asclepius is almost core for her. Although Kiss provides some MS, Asclepius provides added MS even if you're separated from teammates, and we know that MS is OP. It's also a great add-on for boosted healing, and I'd get this before I prioritized any lifesteal. As for Lotus Crown...it's okay, especially if you need something with physical protection, but the passive is better for healers that affect more than just you and a teammate...so I'd consider it more for gods like Terra, Hel, you know...gods with AOE heals.

Altogether, perhaps I just have a different concept when making an Aphro Support. Here are some builds I'd consider. And this is how I'd probably start: Guardian's Blessing + Chalice of Mana + Multi Potions.
Finally...ThePerfectPrism is a guy =)

Thank you so much for your view and item suggestions! I played around with them a bit for the past week, and have definitely been using them dependent upon the circumstances I find myself in.

Since I haven't used the stack items unless someone on my team DCs, I removed them from the guide, as well as rearranged the different item sections. Your input is, and was, definitely appreciated :D

I'm going to get right to the point and say thanks for sharing. I recently started playing Aphrodite and fell in love as she reminds me a lot of Mercy from Overwatch. Now I have a build that I use and almost win every game. The rare time I lose is because of players overextending constantly to where I can't get to them and heal them. I usually end the match with 1-3 deaths and 20+ assists. I will mention that this is in arena and I went to conquest to try her out a few times and each time people wanted me to solo. I can't solo with Aphrodite. I have read builds on solo and I just don't see how they can work. Anyway, my question is what would be good starters for the build I have which I will explain now. First I build to Rod of Asclepius and my relic is Meditation, then i build Hide of the Urchin, Shoes of Focus and my second relic is Amulet of Aegis. My final three items are Lotus Crown, Rod of Tahuti and Breastplate of Valor. Any help you can give me will be much appreciated. One last thing I just remembered. With this build I almost never have to refill on Mana mid-late game. My problem is surviving to help my team early in the game.
