Introduction

Hello, Lords and Ladies of Smite. Allow me to present my (edited/updated) Arena build for everyone's favorite bookworm bird...bookbird? W/e

A quick P.S.A as you read this - AlWAYS read, evaluate and reread a Gods abilities, passives, etc. L'est you make a fool of yourself for all to see (speaking from personal experience...oops!)

Why is your start ? How are you going to help clear the early camps for XP/gold?

It should be tier 2 shoes or ideally, since you end up stacking .

Since you're getting chronos' third, I'd swap out the cdr boots for pen because that extra 10 pen does make a difference early game before squishy gods start getting their higher innate magical protections.

Jade Emperor's Crown is useless on Thoth. Get Mantle of Discord or Magi's Cloak instead for defense. Also Thoth is definitely one of the gods you do not want to build thorns on. He is absolutely not meant to tank damage, which means Thorns isn't a valid relic on him.

If you don't mind my curiosity, what are your thoughts on Bracer of Undoing?

is usually picked up when you have enough health and defenses to survive an enemy's attack before they either kill themselves from the reflected damage or retreat. Outside of duel it's generally only picked up on guardians and warriors because they tend to build more tanky.

Probably wouldn't get it, but it's arena so... does it matter?

Thoth's playstyle doesen't really dictate using bracer well anyway. Just stick to Beads/Aegis.

Kriega, the game is a game that people play in different modes. Conquest isn't the only one that matters to people. They want to do well no matter what mode they prefer.

DMBrandon: "If you don't play Conquest I don't care about you." - is what you're basically saying. If that's true of you, fine, but you don't need to bring it here.

Is the level of competition high in arena? Is it not a noob-friendly mode? Is there a ranked mode for arena, like Duel, Joust or Conquest?

There is a reason it says: "Informative but TOXIC Smite player/Solo player" under Dmbrandon on this page: https://www.smitefire.com/smite/blog/kriega1/online-text-link-for-online-linking

In all honesty, we have already taken 1 step to a better new Smite player experience by nerfing Loki into the ground. Just ban Dmbrandon from Smite and/or streaming Smite on Twitc is a another step, third step is add in-game tutorials/mechanics explanation, fourth step is deal with Smurfs.

In Kriega's defense, I certainly didn't take his comment as "Arena isn't important so I don't really care", I understood it more as "It's Arena and most relics, aside from Beads and Aegis, don't really add or take away much"

As far as competition, while I agree Arena is more "Noob friendly" and it's true there's no Ranked Arena, I've never understood why Arena is so often looked down to compared to other game modes. Sure, there may not be as much strategy involved compared to the other modes but there IS some level of strategy involved. If the opposing team has an in play, would you not add a little anti-heal, to counter her, like I'm sure you would in other modes? Trade lane and jungle strategies for more direct combat strategies and quicker matches and you've got Arena...in my opinion anyways. Personally, I think Ranked Arena could be interesting. I'd certainly watch some pros "duke it out" in Arena, for a change...

Oh I absolutely hate Aphro in arena, becuase 1. I play Smite solo. and 2. Whenever there's an Aphro, there's a Susano or Achilles or some assassin linked with her just looking to take the fun out of the match.

As a fellow filthy arena main, I agree with your points. :D

As for relics, I would stick with beads and aegis for most squishy gods. The tankier ones can look at shell, sprint, slow, etc. It's still about counter-building even if you're counter-building against 5 opponents instead of one.

Also agree with your points. SMITE does have some issues with modes...too many, thins out the matchmaking balance, longer queue times, etc. I think Siege definitely has to go. I think MOTD can probably go too. I'm up in the air about Clash, because it really is like a good balance between Arena and Conquest, but in the end, I'd be okay with it being gone.

There are single player games, multiplayer games, and many ways to play them. Arena absolutely has its own strategy...I have plenty to talk about in my general Arena guide. The biggest "issue" with Arena that I see is balance, because the game is balanced around Conquest, which makes some gods OP in Arena. Note that I am NOT suggesting balancing around Arena...just that it's a weakness of the mode.

But in any case, people should 100% be able to play however they want to play, and being an Arena main shouldn't be a reason for a person to be slammed. Except when their name is Gulfwulf. XD

yeah like how they removed stacking items in assault and a lot of other things like that.

We could definitely use it. and may be mid-tier in conquest, but they're both beasts in arena because most teams tend to group up close. Hell, even 's viable in arena.

Is this because of my Thoth builds? (https://www.smitefire.com/smite/guide/thoth-mid-conquest-builds-5-20-19814) Where I mention Phantom Veil? Yes you can pick it up, but usually if there's an Odin, then at least 1 tank will pick it up, not to mention Thoth can abuse range so unless the Odin has blink it would be hard for him to trap Thoth. Not to mention that Odin isn't really in a good state right now since the last nerf.

A good odin in arena will always buy blink. It's core on him.

It IS because of your Thoth build! I figured I'd try it out and was quite surprised how easily I just glided out of Odin's ring without worry or care! Yours was actually the first time I've seen anyone list it, let alone use it in play

People usually don't list it because the tanks/supports pick it up, but not everyone is fortunate to have such players in their games. And even then, Odin can build max CDR and also get Relic Dagger, so 1 Phantom Veil may not be enough, especially in arena where there's going to be a lot more ult spamming.

Allow me to fully apologize for the first initial build I had written, explain the how and why I made those item decisions and confess a sudden realization I had since last reading everyone's comments...

1) I fully admit boots are kind of interchangeable for me...sometimes I build them first, other times I build them third. Not a good excuse, especially since I tend to build them first more often than not lately, but it's the only one I've got

2) Magus was included for added Pen but, reviewing Thoths passive, its inclusion feels more or less redundant

3...and also 4) So...pertaining to the various rings. Somehow or another, while writing this build from initial memory, I must have mixed his first ability and his third ability together...thus leaving me convinced, at the time, that his basic abilities were somehow strengthened by his kit (hence the inclusion of the rings). Imagine the shock when, having read all your comments and double checking Thoths kit on the off chance I missed something, I found myself reading "...apply ability damage instead"

Ouch...

The above aside, I've since rebuilt this build "from the ground, up" and apologize again. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions, I'll be more careful next time

1. Why is boots third, 2. Why is Magus in the build, 3. Why is Telkhines Ring, an item for AUTO ATTACK mages in a Thoth build? 4. For same reason as 3. why is Demonic Grip present?

Better build: , , , (if needed against tanks), /. Swap deso out with if you need anti-heal. Get if you really feel like you need lifesteal. Optional items would include against assassins/warriors that are giving you trouble, (mainly for and ), (against a CC heavy comp), and for a bit of health, power, and CCR.

Pythags on Thoth? Stick to Bancrofts or soul gem if you want lifesteal on Thoth (and soul gem sucks on him since the 3 nerf)

These builds are unoptimal because you have items like magus and demonic grip. Kriega can better advise you on how yo build towards thoth's strengths

's an ability focused mage, so the usual nuking items are what you should be aiming for, especially in arena. Oh, and get rid of meditation cloak, it's only really needed in assault.
