INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my guide for Chaac, God of Rain
My name is Big Damage. I am a dedicated Smite fan and spend most of my time playing Ranked Conquest, Ranked Joust and some Assault. In Conquest I mostly enjoy playing Solo and Support, however this build is just for Chaac in Solo and Joust.
This is my first SmiteFire guide, and constructive criticism is always welcome. Before I start I would like to add credits to Zilby and Mowen for the templates and notes on how to implement bbcode, this guide would not be possible without it!

Without further ado, onto the guide!

PROS AND CONS

Pros:
  • Great early to mid game damage
  • Sustain with Rain Dance keeps him in lane
  • 3 second silence in Storm Call
  • Slow can keep enemies in the fight longer
  • Teleport to axe with Torrent for escape over walls
  • Some of the best voice lines in the game with standard skin
Cons:
  • Damage falls off late game
  • Only hard CC in ultimate
  • Susceptible to Antiheal
  • Only peel in bodyblocks and Rain Dance
  • "Win lane lose game" type of god

WHAT TO BUY, WHY AND WHEN

In this section I will go over what items are strong on Chaac, why they are useful and when to purchase them

Item 1
Warrior's Blessing

Warrior's Blessing is core for the beginning of almost any Solo lane build at the moment, having reduced damage, extra health, Health and Mana +40 for every 10 seconds for hitting a god and the +15 Physical and Magical Protections are too good to turn down for any Solo laner for the start of the game.

Item 2
Warrior Tabi

Chaac overall has great scaling on his abilities, especially his Rain Dance which is his main sustain in lane. Because of this there are very few times where there is a better item to consider out of the Boots item tree. Just remember to sell it late game to replace with a Elixir of Speed.
Item 3
Breastplate of Valor

This item just does too much to not be picked up in the laning phase. 65 Physical Protections to box with your opposing Solo laner (or if you're against 2 Physical Gods in Joust), 300 Mana, 10MP5 and 20% CDR is nothing to laugh at. Tankier, hitting abilities more often and having Mana and MP5 on Chaac who is very Mana hungry are perfect for him and although better to pick up earlier on, is still a solid pick up at any point in a game.

Item 4
Runic Shield

If you happen to be against a Magical Solo laner, such as Jormungandr or Hades without lifesteal, you should probably be picking this up as your first or second item after Warrior's Blessing. Health and Protections on top of the passive which reduces their early game power by 50 will make you incredibly hard to kill, and the +35 Physical power on top of your Warrior Tabi bringing you to 75 will make you hit harder and heal up even more.

Item 5
Caduceus Shield

This item has literally everything you need. Power for scaling? Check. Dual Protections? Check. Health? Check. Oh and let's not forget the ridiculous passive increasing your Rain Dance healing by 10% or 25% when in combat. This item is perfect to get as you get into the mid game phase and start rotating more. Although it can be bought earlier if deemed necessary as it is a solid item I would most likely buy this 3rd or 4th.

Item 6
Shield of Regrowth

Now this item is not core on Chaac by any means. However if you are ahead, can utilize it correctly and want to have some fun? Shield of Regrowth is an item for you. The base stats aren't mind blowing but they are useful, the real kicker here is the passive, so every time you activate your Rain Dance you will gain 40% movement speed; it is impossible for anyone without Winged Blade or some form of slow immunity to escape this which can set up kills for your team due to the Rain Dance slow being at 40% at max rank. Due to how situational this item is though, I would only ever be picking this up 5th or 6th, maybe 7th to replace Warrior Tabi.

Item 7
Blink Rune

This Relic, I would consider core on Chaac. Being able to Blink Rune into a group of enemies to hit with a harder hitting combo is very useful on him, and should be picked up in one of the 2 relic slots almost every game.

ABILITIES AND COMBOS

Passive - Overflow
Overflow really helps Chaac in the early to mid game, because he uses a lot of Mana being able to use an ability for free after 5 basic attacks just straight up fixes that problem. It is better to save it if possible for Rain Dance or Storm Call as they use the most Mana, however using it with Thunder Strike or Torrent is still useful.

1 - Thunder Strike
Thunder Strike is the bread and butter on Chaac, you want to be maxing this ability first, 320 damage at level 10 that you can throw at a distance, on a 10 second maximum cooldown? This is one half of what makes Chaac such a lane bully, another point to make is the interactions, being able to teleport to the axe location with Torrent or a huge AOE slow with Rain Dance can make Chaac very tedious to play against.

2 - Torrent
Torrent doesn't seem like anything too special, however when you look into the stats you may realise how this works with one of his best combos which I will cover just below. The damage is nice, but gaining protections for every enemy hit? you can throw your axe in to a group with Thunder Strike, teleport to it with Torrent to get those protections and hit your ultimate, Storm Call before they can even say "Enemy missing left!" Also, this is a very nice escape tool. Throw your axe over a wall and appear on the other side so you're out of reach, just be careful not to hit this at the wrong time when your Thunder Strike is on the ground.

3 - Rain Dance
Rain Dance is the other half to what makes Chaac a lane bully, you just hit him for 200 health? Oh let me just heal it all back up again. With this you can save yourself and keep poking down gods with less sustain, and then use the slow to ensnare them for the kill when needed. Let's not also forget the enormous AOE slow that it puts down when utilised with Thunder Strike which opens up Chaac to another strong combo.

4 / Ultimate - Storm Call
Storm Call does everything you want in an ultimate. Strong damage, a knock up disruption, followed by a 3 second silence to your enemies works wonderfully in initiating team fights or to secure kills. This can also work well as an escape, granting you CC immunity without locking you in place for the duration for the ultimate, and 50% damage mitigation while casting can be a life saver if used correctly.

Combos

With this combo you will damage the enemies with the 1, teleport into them with the 2 while gaining protections if the enemies are damaged again, hit your ultimate onto them and use the slow in your 3 to secure kills.

With this combo you will be placing a large AOE slow where you place your 1, so you don't necessarily have to aim it at an enemy god, you could target behind them to block them into a slow to set up a kill. After that you will follow up with your Ultimate to prevent them from using escape abilities, and finishing off with the 3 to try and secure with some extra damage.

This is the perfect combo, however it relies on Blink Rune to make utility of it. As soon as you Blink Rune into the enemies and land your Ultimate, they will be silenced and you are now in range to hit them with your 1 and land the large AOE slow from the 3 on top of it to devastate the enemies, and finish with the 3 to try and secure a kill.

GAMEPLAY AND TEAMPLAY

This part of the guide will cover what to do at different stages of a Conquest match, and how you should play as part of a team to win the game

Early Game / Laning Phase
The reason people pick Chaac is because of his strength in lane, use the power and sustain that you have to secure the Totem of Ku, get a lead and snowball into the mid game where you can start doing some real damage.

Mid Game / "Skirmish" Fighting
With your lead try to proxy and/or make rotations into the mid lane to use your early to mid game power to get the rest of your team a lead, from here you can push mid towers, take Gold Fury or invade enemy XP and buff camps.

Late Game / Teamfighting
Chaac falls off heavily late game in terms of damage and presence, only really having his ult and slow to pressure the enemy backline damage dealers. Use your tankiness and sustain to keep pressure on the enemy, even though your kit is not as strong and help secure the Fire Giant as well as taking phoenixes to win the game.

SUMMARY // CONCLUSION

Chaac is an aggressive early game power house that utilises his early game strength to snowball his way into the late game, I hope this build was useful, thank you for reading!

Why no Transcendence? Isn't it very strong on him?

I used to have it as a core item however with the changes to Magical Penetration I decided having more health was more beneficial. It is still an Alternative/Situational though.

Honestly I have to say I myself find Transcendence meh. Chaac is one of the kings of the early game. Late game he falls of and transitions into (the initiating) tank. trans would make him a lot more squishier while his damage would not be that much higher because protections.
Honestly if you want to be a bit more snowbally or use that early game damage I would recommend Jotunn's Wrath (because of the little bit of pen being more valuable than the bit of power from trans) or more around late game if you also want to keep a bit of tankyness Void Shield (which aura late game is now better if the enemy is a tank)

talking about Void Shield I wonder why a late game Shifter's Shield is in your opinion a better pick up than Void Shield (assuming in joust you have a double physical comp)

Big damage (17) | November 22, 2019 11:49am
I find more success in Joust to rush to a T2 item, (with the exception of Specialist's Blessing on a healer such as Aphrodite or Hel), the reduction to all damage is nice but I just feel held back and slowed down from building my items because starter items work better in a laning phase in Conquest where you have more use relative to it's cost for it to be beneficial, whereas in Joust feels more like an arms race to who can get ahead first, so I'd prefer to work towards an item I'm going to keep in the late game than spend 700 gold and be 1/3 of an item behind an enemy that has rushed a T2 to then sell it again in the late.

I thought Joust is about early leads and pressure though?
