INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my guide for Artio, The Bear Goddess

My name is Big Damage. I am a dedicated Smite player and spend most of my time playing Ranked Conquest, Ranked Joust and some Assault. In Conquest I mostly enjoy playing Solo and Support, however this build is just for Artio in Support, Solo and Joust.

This is my 4th SmiteFire guide, and constructive criticism is always welcome. Before I start I would like to add credits to Branmuffin17, Zilby and Mowen for the templates and notes on how to implement bbcode, this guide would not be possible without it!

Without further ado, onto the guide!

PROS AND CONS

..... Strengths .....

+ 6 abilities with 4 CC's
+ High early game damage
+ 6 second AOE cripple
.. Weaknesses ..

- Relies on CDR and MP5
- Falls off mid-late
- No ultimate or CC immunity

HOW TO PLAY + TIPS AND TRICKS

This part of the guide will provide you with information needed to play Artio throughout the different stages of the game.

Early Game / Laning Phase

In Support, you have great early aggression because at level 2 you will have 4 abilities while the enemy will only have 2. Use this to your advantage to really put pressure on them to score some kills for your carry. Because of this, Artio pairs well with an aggressive hunter like Anhur or Ullr.

In Solo, this is where you will be your strongest as you have a blue buff to back up your ability spam with mana and CDR. Keep out clearing and poking your opponent to take the Totem of Ku as often as possible, early kills are your main goal here to snowball.

In Joust, once in lane you will have the most abilities of anyone at level 3, and while your damage dealer(s) clear the wave you should be aggressing and looking for early kill potential for first blood. The enemies should be scared to fight against you early so use this pressure to invade their jungle between waves and take the red buff.

Mid Game / "Skirmish" Fighting

For all 3 roles, it's pretty black and white here. If you got kills and did well early on, you're going to feel amazing here however if you didn't then this is the beginning of the bitter end for you as Artio. As you become more tankier here being aggressive is still good but make sure you're not overextending when you should be protecting your backline.

Late Game / Team fighting

In Support, you should feel OK late. You wont have the damage but your crowd control will still be useful. Just make sure you don't get caught in a bad spot because with no CC immunity you can get locked down pretty easily.

In Solo, there is a definite fall off at this point even if you managed to snowball the earl-mid game. You might still feel good though if their backline is reliant on mobility because of your 6 second cripple, as this will either burn their beads or set up a free kill for your jungler to grab.

In Joust, there is a definite mixture of feeling between the support aspects and the solo aspects. As long as you are tanky enough for the phoenix/titan and have CC to set up or peel and can do these things well you will be fine, don't expect to be solo killing anyone here though like you might have done early on.

Tips + Tricks
  • Comboing abilities is Artios greatest tool. Use different abilities between different stances to make the most of this strength as she lacks an ultimate. The best combo is being able to lock someone down for 7.4 seconds with correct timing of Entangling Vines and Ferocious Roar.

  • In Druid form, your abilities deal slightly less damage than in Bear form. So to make the most out of your passive, Decompose, aggress them in druid form to apply stacks so that in Bear form these abilities hit harder.

  • In ranked, Artio is a great counter pick if you see an enemy Bastet, King Arthur, Nemesis, Susano or Tyr. These gods will try to dive the backline and your 6 second cripple will put them in an awful spot because of how heavily they rely on mobility.

WHICH RELICS?

Core Relics

  • Blink is great on a lot of gods and Artio is no different. Being able to blink in and instantly stun enemies with Ferocious Roar can burn beads very quickly, still allowing you to chase them down with Heavy Charge and put them in a bad spot with entanglting vines. Just makes Artio a much more versatile god and improves her already great early game.

  • The majority of the time, you're going to need shell to either peel your backline or for yourself as you don't have great self peel. Just a great safe relic that ticks a lot of boxes for tanks.
Situational Relics

teleport glyph
  • Beads are definitely more common on Artio in Solo, but should definitely be picked up into heavy CC comps in Support and Joust too. Especially nice as Artio has no CC immunity of her own in her kit.

  • Sprint is good similarly to Magic Shell and Purification Beads because into heavy slow comps, it can peel for yourself and your team without having to use beads to immune the slow. Situationally has use when aggressing to chase down the enemy team so it's always a good option.

  • Needed to add teleport glyph as an option strictly for Solo. Can work fairly wellif you're winning or losing a match up so no issue with getting this for some early safety.

WHAT TO BUILD, WHY AND WHEN

In this section I will go over strong core items for Artio, why they are useful and when to purchase them

Item 1
Stone of Binding

A great early bruiser option that fits Artios playstyle perfectly. Giving you a nice balance of power, prots and MP5 all for 1700 gold making this bridge item a great early power spike into the mid game. The best part for Artio is that she has 4 abilities with crowd control (CC) and each time CC is applied the targets protections are reduced by 10 fitting perfectly with your aggressive early play style. It's best to get this first item after boots to get the most value out of this but you will likely sell it much later into the game as the passive loses value.

Item 2
Breastplate of Valor

Artio loves to spam abilities and Breastplate of Valor enables this perfectly. Simple early power spike item for physical protection and 20% cooldown reduction, you should purchase this as early to make the most use of the 20% CDR and it falls off quite late as it has no passive.

Item 3
Talisman of Energy

To give Artio some good utility in the mid-late game, Talisman of Energy provides a great amount of movement speed, attack speed and MP5 to you and your allies. The best part about this is that is stacks really nicely with the passive on your ult, shapeshifter so with War Banner on top you can zoom around and be really hard to lockdown. You can build this at pretty much any point and feel okay about it but it's probably best picked up after your core items.

ABILITIES AND COMBOS

Passive - Decompose

A simple passive that you don't need to think too much about while fighting. Each time you hit an enemy their magical and physical protections are reduced by 2%, this stacks up to 8 times so in extended fights an enemy can have 16% reduced prots which enables some kill potential for you and your team.

1 - Energy Surge / Maul Prey

Small cone damage with a heal or with 2 swipes of damage. Pretty straight forward but because this is on the lowest cooldown and does a decent amount of damage this will be your first maxed ability.

2 - Entangling Vines / Ferocious Roar

If you pick Artio into high mobility gods like King Arthur or Susano, your cripple in Entangling Vines will scale you great into the late game. While peeling for your backline if you're into mobile divers like the 2 mentioned the 6 second cripple does so much work, plus you can stun them with Ferocious Roar making them immobile for an extra second or so if timed right.

3 - Life Tap / Heavy Charge

A nice slow on each ability plus a root on the Life Tap. Using these 2 abilities are your best tools for jumping onto an enemy and forcing their mobility or relics. Heavy Charge also makes a decent escape however be careful as you can be knocked out of it or rooted in place which will diminish the use of it.

4 / Ultimate - Shapeshift

The use of switching stance this gives you is obviously amazing, the passive is meh. It's nice to get that extra MP5 and movement speed (which stacks even better with Talisman of Energy and War Banner) however getting your other 6 abilities to their full potential is always more useful.

Combos

This is a standard and simple combo only needing to switch stance once going 3-1-4-1-3. Simply close the gap on the target with Life Tap, hit your 1 in both stances and dash back through the enemy with Heavy Charge to get into a safer position as you with your abilities down you are vulnerable.

Very similar to the first combo, however now you're incorporating the CC on your 2 into the mix to harass the target more and potentially set up kills for your team.

This is a complex combo that uses all of your abilities, while also providing the highest damage output from Stone of Binding procs and your passive.

CONCLUSION // SUMMARY

Artio is an aggressive tank that really punishes enemy carries for making mistakes, I hope this build was useful, thank you for reading!

I am confused, in your guide you describe the importance of boots of focus yet all support builds use reinforced shoes. Mind if I ask the reasoning behind this?

Yeah sorry I'm working on updating the write ups on all of my guides one by one they are very outdated, as is the joust guide.

Probably from an older description while the builds were updated. Also the writeup may have been catered to Solo lane building.
