Achilles Build

Starters

Notes Starting blink is a matter of confidence in your ability. No matter the game mode as you gain experience with Achilles Blink Rune will eventually become a must buy even against gods like Ares or Da Ji.

You can pick up consumables depending on the situation and game mode, for example on Joust I'd rather prioritize sustainability hence Chalice of Healing. Otherwise I never buy pots because in all honesty it's just a waste of gold and a slot, I'd much rather get ME a ward or 2.

Notes About Rangda's Mask. If you're experienced with the god and trust your ability to play a mean Assassin Achilles this item Rangda's Mask is an absolute must! I cannot stress this enough people, this item makes you a killing machine, it's the go big or go home type of item for what it does. The 20% bonus damage is what makes it so insanely good on him and plus it has 15 penetration that Achilles' kit loves. This core build (mainly Rangda's Mask) is why I noted that you need to be a profound Achilles player to be able to fully utilize him as an assassin otherwise as noted below you'll be easily deleted 24/7 and a dead weight for your teammates.

The other 2 items are pretty self-explanatory; Achilles loves actives and the buff from his 2 Radiant Glory synergizes especially well with Hydra's Lament and The Crusher passives.

Notes All boots can be used in different situations, it all depends on what you need at the time.

Talaria Boots can be seen as report worthy on Achilles but for me they fit my playstyle perfectly and as long as I kill people wearing them noone cares and if I fail to do so I'll sell and buy proper boots asap AND if I don't then I'm straight up inting and deserve to be reported.

Other Items

Notes I used to 1st buy Jotunn's Wrath all the time back in the day but over time it started to feel lackluster in comparison to any one of the current core items mentioned. It looks good on paper and the 20% cdr comes in handy but I don't feel like cdr is as important as it used to be a season or 2 ago imo also I just don't think it's worth prioritizing over The Crusher and Hydra's Lament because all 3 of the core items better synergyze with your kit and contribute to your damage way more.

The 2 Antihealing items are selfexplanatory

Heartseeker is what I buy when I need that extra little bit of damage to instakill a fed carry asap. It's strictly bought for that reason.

Void Shield is situational ill buy it for my hunter if he's good maybe...

Shield of Regrowth is cheap af and goes well with your ability healing from Radiant Glory you can build it after buying Elixir of Speed and selling your boots it gives you great chase potential thanks to the 40% ms increase and keeps you healthy after a skirmish in the jungle.

Auto resets are extremely important with a build like that! If you don't auto reset your damages gonna be halved and the build is going to be completely useless. You'll have all the damage in the world and you wont be able to dish it out.

Combos

Read the NOTES next to the items above for more information!!!

Combo 1

Remember to always auto reset with this god! No other god in the game deals more base non-crit auto attack damage than Achilles thanks to his % ad steroid from his 2 Radiant Glory + Hydra's Lament passive. This will hit for around 600-900 damage per auto reset on a squishy late game considering you also bought Rangda's Mask for additional 20% damage dealt.

Standard instagibbing combo is as follows;

2 Radiant Glory > 3 Combat Dodge's dash > Blink Rune > 1 Shield of Achilles > Auto Attack > 3 Combat Dodge's spear proc > Auto Attack

Note: More often than not your enemies will immediately use any means of escape tools they have off cd to try to juke the stun from Shield of Achilles or after the stun to avoid the proc from Combat Dodge and auto attack. In such cases try to read your enemys movements and predict possible reactions, don't rush your combo if you don't know for sure that your target is crippled by cooldowns be it on their relics, dashes etc. by doing this there's a good chance that you land the entire combo and get the kill.

Combo 2

Achilles' ult Fatal Strike scales for 100% off your ad plus 540 base stats at max level. Forget about executing people with it OMEGALUL use this as a source of damage, your best one at that actually, it will easily hit for around 800-1000 on a squishy no exaggeration. If you don't need to close the gap with Blink use the ult as a combo starter. Here's another combo utilizing this idea

2 Radiant Glory > 3 Combat Dodge's dash > 4 Fatal Strike > Auto Attack (that alone might result in a kill) > Combat Dodge's spear proc > Auto Attack

Note: The 2nd combo definitely deals more damage than the regular one but it's just a tiny bit more complicated to execute because of how easy it is to dodge the ult. In case the enemy uses relics or escapes while you're performing the combo you should chase and wait for the effect to run out then finish him off with Shield of Achilles and your second Combat Dodge this goes without saying but w/e. Ideally your target dies after the combo sequence and you use Shield of Achilles to stun any enemies coming at you to try to trade 1for1 then immediately follow that up by dashing away with Combat Dodge's dash to increase the gap and an additional side step or two then Blink Rune if needed.

In both combos cases you should always try to save your 2nd Combat Dodge or/and ult Fatal Strike as means of escaping after a kill to prevent the enemy from trading you.

Additional Information

Even tho Achilles was recently hit by the nerf hammer, his offensive playstyle is still without a doubt very much viable and he's still one of the remaining actual instagibbers in the game.

Before the nerfs Achilles' damage was kinda underappreciated and only a small portion of the player base knew that Achilles wasn't a bruiser nor was he a tank but an actual straight up assassin (I mean that was his strongest playstyle at the time). His numbers were so pumped up that you'd simply build Warrior Tabi Jotunn's Wrath Hydra's Lament and combo as follows Radiant Glory > Combat Dodge > Blink Rune > Shield of Achilles > Auto Attack > Combat Dodge (Spear) thats it 110% of the time that resulted in a dead carry. Another problem with him was not only was he super strong but he was super strong all the time, throught the entire game, I'd even go as far as to say that he didn't have notable weak points enemies could capitalize on unless he just fkd around way too much early/mid stages. His snowball potential was off the roof, nobody could stop this man once the core pene items came online. I imagine it was pretty frustrating to play against. In all honesty all of that hasn't changed too much after the nerfs but it definitely feels way more punishing to fall behind as Achilles now which is a good thing, it increases the gods skill ceiling and keeps the game healthier for everybody.

Now that he's nerfed you can easily start sorting the good from the bad Achilles players. The way he is now means that when you choose to play him full offense like this the smallest mistake could easily result in you being useless and 9xd and eventually god forbid banned for inting lol(that is unless midway you immediately switch to the def passive and build tank). Thankfully now just like before most people you match against don't expect Achilles to build full glass cannon which might actually be one of the main reasons why this playstyle works. In 99% of the time your enemies will expect a standard Blackthorn Hammer+ Gladiator's Shield bruiser build so most times it's less likely the focus to be on you but rather the mage, hunter or assassin in your team. This is kinda like the mindset behind playing him this way because while your enemies are busy focusing everyone but you by the time they take notice of what you're trying to pull off by building so much dmg you'll ideally have some sort of advantage over them and that should be enough to turn the table on them.

Team Work

Persephone' ult Grasp of Death allows you to safely aim your Fatal Strike so.. good ****.

Aphrodite is your sugar mamma! 1v9ing late game is never as simple as when you luck out and get a good Aphrodite player in your team. She'll peel for you and keep your squishy *** alive.

The feeling of playing assassin Achilles with a good Aphrodite late game while listening to some good ole drumcode techno is the definition of top notch gaming experience.

Pros / Cons

PROS

+ Extremely strong if played to his full potential.

+ Very slippery with Combat Dodge and Fatal Strike they allow you to get in when trying to poke or when a potential kill is in sight and get away with it unscathed.

+ Easily the most flexible god in terms of itemization options and playstyles.

+ One of the true remaining instagibbers.

+ Perfect auto resets boost your damage output by an enormous amount.

+ Even assassins don't scale so well with penetration like Achilles does.

+ Strong in skirmishes.
Achilles passive Gift of the Gods is probably his strongest suit and definitely one of the best warrior passives it gives Achilles a total of 325 health + 45 protections each in armoured stance and 6% movement speed + 43 power in unarmoured stance now thats hot, literally a whole item ahead both in a defensive and offensive ways. Dodging has never been easier and more satisfying with any other god thanks to his dashes and ultimate skills. Great sustainabilty in lane thanks to the ability healing you get from his 2 Radiant Glory plus the healing recently god a slight buff!

CONS

- As soon as you buy Rangda's Mask it's all or nothing.

- Assassin Achilles doesn't work as well as it used to so don't make mistakes but if you happen to then you should build bruiser!

- You ARE going to feed for many games before you get used to playing Achilles like this. *Not an additional Con more like an add to the previous one*

- If you don't auto reset your damage is halved. Don't expect to kill carrys with abilities alone, it does NOT work, autos are essential for your damage output!

- Mana hungry early game.

- CC shuts you down really hard. When you get hard cc'd in an awkward spot dont think about it just Fatal Strike out of there asap or it might be too late.
  • Look to position yourself well and learn to snowball off of your enemy's smallest mistakes.
  • Play around your stuns and try to avoid finding yourself in a position where you're left with cooldowns in the middle of a team fight.
  • Always try to establish vision control and play for objectives.
  • Ward the enemy jungler's speed buff and look for an opportunity to put him behind.
  • Play smart and analyse each situation (e.g can you fight? can your team help you if you fight? what would the consequences be if you failed and left your team 4v5? can you trade 1 for 1 and will your team be able to 4v4 without you and their adc?) think before you act.
  • Always try to learn from your mistakes and expand your knowledge.

Conclusion

This guide is inspired by one of the best Achilles players in the game, his nickname is Dang, check him out for relevant builds as time progresses.

Nenov, please fix the skill leveling. It should always list appropriate (and possible) leveling order.

Yhing is i dont level the ult everytime all the time. Sometimes depending on the situation i might level either my 1 or 2 instead either way i think it's fixed to yalls preference now.

Kriega1 (143) | August 24, 2019 3:24pm
You don’t have to prioritise maxing his ult, it’s just your old levelling order had you completely maxing your ult before the further levels are actually available. What you could do is just get ult at level 5 and get the last 4 points for the ult at levels: 17,18,19,20.

Branmuffin17 (394) | August 24, 2019 2:44pm
I can agree...you give a likely skill leveling sequence, and maybe write something in the guide where you go more in depth on how you level and when you level differently. This is one of those ults that I'd often put one point into it at level 5, then probably delay until the end.

In any case, as long as the skill leveling is not impossible, then this is okay. Thanks for fixing.

No titan’s Bane, Bloodforge or magi’s cloak options? Also your levelling order is impossible (hint: check ult levelling) and I assume this build is for game modes outside of conquest?
1
copyrightnenov | August 22, 2019 12:12pm
My brudda you can always build any one of those items depending on the situation and your playstyle tho why would i ever buld % armor penetration if all im gonna do with this Achilles is focus squishies? the % armor penetration from Titan's Bane doesn't do jack **** worth of anything against low armor targets, against stacked armor - yes, against carries - hell nah. As for Bloodforge ehh I don't think it's that bad mainly because of the shield but it's just way too expensive and has flat damage without any penetration oof there're better options. As for the cloak it's a huge boost on the defensive side but rarely need i build survivability before the enemy carries are already rendered useless. Also yeah I know the skill order is fd but point is people to see which spell is to be maxed 1st, 2nd and 3rd. And no this build is definitely not exclusively for game modes outside of conquest

Kriega1 (143) | August 22, 2019 12:53pm
If this build/guide is for conquest as well it needs work. Level 1 you start the 1 in Achilles jungle, you also need to mention Assassin’s Blessing and a suitable start. Conquest, you also should list situationals like the ones I mentioned (amongst others), as cookie cutter builds can only work to a certain extent. For now though, you need to fix the levelling order as it is impossible otherwise the guide will have to be considered for archiving. As for your comment on Titan’s Bane, you’re failing to take into account that squishies can build protection items like mantle and Celestial Helm, not to mention supports can buy aura items, why is why Titan’s Bane CAN be considered as a situational pickup. Also your guide doesen’t seem to mention lategame replacements for boots when buying Elixir of Speed.
