Introduction

I wanna start this guide with an explanation of my susano experience. Over the years I have practiced and would say mastered the god of auto attack cancels (susano). This character has an overall low skill floor with an extremely high skill ceiling. This is a god you can pick up randomly and do fine on but if you master this character you can easily hard carry games on him.

REMINDER

No cookie cutter build exists for any god counter building must happen and building my exact build isn’t a lot of counter building. For example if you’re against a 5 man healing squad and you don’t go Brawler's Beatstick there is a problem.

Combos (The Explanation)

The easiest way I can explain Susano's AA Cancel combos is by first explaining the way that I think about his combos. I personally think of Susano combos as 3 separate combos all revolving around his 3 main abilities. His ult combos are just an extra layer and don't really mean too much, however playing around the cc Susano's ult provides is the important part. WHICH IS WHY I RECOMMEND ALSO WATCHING THE VIDEO GUIDE AT LEAST FOR A VISUAL REPRESENTATION OF THE COMBOS

His 1st ability "Storm Kata" has AA Cancels in between each of his swipes on the ability; for example the full combo for his 1st ability would be, Auto 1 auto 1 auto 1 auto.

his 2nd ability "Wind Syphon" only has AA Cancels before and after the ability, therefore the combo would be: auto 2 auto.

His 3rd ability "Jet Stream" is actually an AA Cancel AND it is also an AA Reset combined into one ability. Now don't let that fool you it isn't that difficult to understand and no thought should really be given to discerning an AA Cancel or AA Reset. The combo is simply, auto 3 auto 3 auto.

Now that we understand how I think of his combos as 3 separate combos based on his abilities we can start to realize that full Susano combos are made by essentially just stringing the different abilities combos together. For instance if you were to put his 2nd ability combo together with his 1st ability combo it would look like this, auto 2 auto 1 auto 1 auto 1 auto. This is the easiest way to understand his combos from my experience coaching and thinking about Susano as a whole.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING that I want people to understand or comprehend is that Susano's abilities are like water, Ever flowing and ever changing. The combos I will be giving you are not end all be all combos and can be mushed, and mashed, and sprung, and wound together into different combos depending on the situation at hand. This, I find to be the beauty of the character.

Combos (The Combos)

Here are a few Susano combos to learn. Once you have mastered these combos you can look to make your own combos and do cool things with the characters but these basic combos will help you with the fundamentals first.

2nd ability starter full combo auto 2 auto 3 auto 3 auto 1 auto 1 auto 1 auto

2nd ability mid combo (1st ability starter) auto 1 auto 1 auto 2 auto 3 auto 3 auto 1 auto (this combo will take practice as it requires decent speed.)

2nd ability mid combo (3rd ability starter) auto 3 auto 3 auto 2 auto 1 auto 1 auto 1 auto

2nd ability ender combo auto 3 auto 3 auto 1 auto 1 auto 1, 2 auto 2 auto (after you dash using the dash part of Susano's 1st ability pull them back into you and finish out the combo)

Ult combos are hard to put down in text as really you can ult anywhere at any given time and the combo generally stays the same but i will at least give you two combos, one with the ult as starter and one with the ult as an ender (insert watch visual guide here)

Ult starter combo auto 4 auto 1 auto 1 auto 3 (ult should go off around here) auto auto 3 auto 2 auto 1 auto

ult ender combo 1st ability starter auto 1 auto 1 auto 3 auto 3 auto 2 auto 4 auto 1 auto (either instantly shoot ult off dash or wait to fire for full effectiveness.)

Tips n Tricks

When using Susano ult be sure to charge it as long as possible. This will make it so when you send it off your cool downs will be closer to being available; it also does extra damage when used like this.

When you use your 2nd ability be sure to throw in a basic after it ends to maximize your overall damage potential.

When going into a team fight use you three early in said fight so you can have your three when you need to get out of the team fight safely (by teleporting to an enemy it reduces the cooldown of this ability to 10 seconds flat!!).

It is often beneficial to hold your movement options or 2nd ability until the enemy has either expended their own movement options or is low enough to be killed without being capable of using their movement options.

Pros/Cons

Pros

high mobility
High cc
High chase down
High damage
Great mid game
Good team fight
AA cancels

Cons

squishy
Obliterated by cc
Meh early game
Needs AA cancels to be used to full effectiveness

In Conclusion

So either you made it this far or are just looking for the video guide, regardless I thought I should write a little ending paragraph explaining Susano as well as my thoughts very quickly: Therefore in conclusion Susano is a burst Assassin with high mobility and is a great jungler with an extremely high skill ceiling. The character is extremely fun to play and a character in which I personally believe is capable of bringing countless hours of fun to you through playing, learning, executing, and simply making montage level smite plays using the character. Thank you for clicking on my guide, if you have any suggestions or comments please reply to the guide and I will try my best to follow up in an appropriate amount of time.

AA Cancel Counter: 7

sincerely, Dillan (The Cool)

I am new to smite and just bought Susane. Before I looked at this guide(first guide looking at) I assumed his skill order was 4, 1, 2, 3 but here it is 4, 1, 3, 2....why are we maxing 3 before 2? Does 3 do AoE damage(I haven't played him yet)?? If 3 does not do AoE damage, personally I would level 2 first as it does more damage(at least late game because of scaling). Would love input from people with more Smite experience than I.

Hi Lagmoor,

So there are a couple of reasons why Jet Stream is a higher priority than Wind Siphon.
  • If you view the skill details, his 3 is in fact higher damage (total) than his 2. His 2 has quicker burst, but the 3 will do higher base damage, AND the scaling is 25% higher (100% total vs 75%). That alone make the leveling semi-obvious.

  • If you see the details for Jet Stream, if you hit the enemy with the initial gust, you can teleport to the enemy, and if you do, you reduce the CD to 10s instead of the original 16s. With both his 2 and 3 having the same base CD, this means you can use his 3 significantly sooner for 2nd cast.
Hope this helps.

Your build overcaps penetration by 10%, you could consider getting Bloodforge in that last item slot instead of Titan's Bane.

Yeah i made the build a few patches before they changed hydras to give it percent pen and havent had a chance to swap builds around. Thanks for letting me know and thanks for commenting though.

Hey good to see you back. Just some suggestions:
Would you update for the new season, with all the new starters coming out?
I don't think the Spirit Robe is a good fit in build 2. Especially since you have Magi's Cloak already in there. I think Magi's Cloak is used for bursting down an enemy without worrying about CC. So Spirit Robe is a detriment to that.
Something like Heartseeker would be better, IMO.
1
Cooldillan (3) | January 12, 2021 11:23am
Yeah tbh I didn’t really think about the fact that magi’s and spirit robe counter each other a bit. I wasn’t able to play any pts so my opinions on the items would be solely on numbers and other people’s opinions. I will def switch spirit robe out for heart seeker because it is just better in that spot.

Wouldn't Crusher be core on Susano due to the amount of times he can proc it, even with his passive?
1
Cooldillan (3) | September 19, 2019 8:53am
Now heartseeker is core on him until fixed
1
Kriega1 (143) | September 19, 2019 9:20am
I think it was fixed.

Yes i think it is core on susano. However if you aa cancel with susano and got used to the attack animation without crusher it will be harder with it. I also have it in every build except the ult bot susano which is shearly for team fighting so the crusher won’t help as much.

boogiebass (46) | June 12, 2019 5:13pm
Hey dillan. Just nitpicking here, but you can't buy 3 potions if you're starting with mace and assassins blessing. You can only buy 2. My preferred is 1 hp and 1 multi.

Hey CoolDillan, check this link out:
https://smiteprobuilds.com/Builds?p_filters_page=1&p_filters_search=susano&p_filters_god=~&p_filters_pro=~&p_filters_opponent=~&p_filters_role=Jungle&p_filters_league=~&p_filters_sort=~

I don't see any sort of play with Hide of the Urchin, so what is your preferred reason for picking it up? In your writeup, you mention defense and health, but why not just get Mantle of Discord instead to counter burst? I think mantle's 10% CDR and the passive would be more beneficial for you.

I'm also seeing quite a bit of Blackthorn Hammer on him.

Anyway, I'm thinking of taking him into conquest soon. I've played a bit with him in Arena. My usual build was
Warrior Tabi
Jotunn's Wrath
Hydra's Lament
Heartseeker
Mantle of Discord
Brawler's Beat Stick

I'll probably have to modify a bit for conquest.
1
Cooldillan (3) | May 28, 2019 8:07am
I like the hide of the urchin because it gives the most survivability, mathematically speaking. Mantle of discord is a great item however I don’t like the idea of just protections. It gives no health so it is just flat protections so it isn’t as effective. It just gives more survivability that’s why I like the item.
1
boogiebass (46) | May 24, 2019 5:55pm
I haven't seen a lot of Void Shield on him, but I like the first recommended build you mentioned. I also like the ult bot build, but I would replace the Spirit Robe with Mantle of Discord
Power build is good too, but I would replace Hide of the Urchin with Mantle of Discord.

Anyway, that's my personal preference.

Hi dillan. I see you've updated the guide recently. Your guide says starter is bluestone and bumbas. The proper start should include assassins blessing.

Cooldillan (3) | October 31, 2018 11:17am
Hehe true, I miss bumbas
1
boogiebass (46) | October 2, 2018 8:12am
Hey Dillan. Here's some feedback from me:
Hydra's Lament should definitely be in every susanoo build as a core item. You have a good explanation on it in your item's section. Make a combos section that details how to use his abilities and combine them for max damage. That way, your readers will definitely appreciate the need for Hydra's Lament on Susano.
1
Cooldillan (3) | October 26, 2018 4:16am
hey Boogie,
I have a video on combos but I will make a section for combos. Thanks for your feedback.
1
Kriega1 (143) | October 2, 2018 6:21am
Why are you building Breastplate and Bulwark on Susanoo? Just get Mantle if you need to counter burst, no need to waste 2 item slots.

And Pestilence on Susanoo? Really? Are you being serious?
0
Cooldillan (3) | October 26, 2018 4:20am
It’s a pretty old susanoo build but breastplate imo is fine. And if your ahead, which should be always or susano is trash, going tanks will barely hinder you dmg.
1
boogiebass (46) | October 2, 2018 3:50pm
Hey Dillan, gonna add some 2 cents to what kriega wrote. Some other items I want to bring to your attention: Blackthorn Hammer, Frostbound Hammer, and Witchblade aren't good items on burst assassins because it hurts their damage output significantly and take away item slots that could be used for counter building.

Frostbound Hammer is typically a warrior item (for select few warriors) due to the high health and control it provides.
Blackthorn Hammer... I don't even know where this item stands in the meta.
Witchblade is typically an item a front liner should build to counter strong/relevant basic attackers.
1
Cooldillan (3) | October 26, 2018 4:21am
They’re all situational items I’m not saying build them every game I’m saying in some scenarios you might want to build them

DV-8 says Susano tank is a thing!

http://smite.guru/match/pc/419984989

But in all seriousness, for a proposed Conquest jungle build, this isn't good. Needs offense, as he's got great mobility, damage combos, etc.
1
boogiebass (46) | October 2, 2018 3:42pm
DV-8 has phenomenal mechanical skill, almost on par with Taco. Tank Susano will get a regular player bent over backward in high level, ranked play.
