Introduction

Behold the Majesty

Hi guys! This is FerrumSlash, and this is my first guide ever on Xbalanque, the first-ever Mayan god on Smite!

Xbalanque (I'll refer to him as Xbal) is a really fun god to play. His skill-set is awesome and he really excels in hunting down kills.

Remember that guides are not the Holy Bible. You're always welcome to improvise and kick-*** with it. I'm actually just an average player trying to help out since i don't actualy see many people playing Xbal.

DISCLAIMER : I'm afraid i cannot input much about conquest, since i rarely play conquest. Will try to fix in the future.

Pros / Cons

Pros

  • High Damage
  • RIDICULOUS mobility
  • Great team presence (probably the best for carries)
  • Great harass
  • Strong all-around
  • Global ultimate
  • Bad-***

Cons
  • Squishy
  • Passive is useless if not fed
  • Mana-hungry early game
  • REALLY susceptible to cc

A Hunter must always be careful. Mind your positioning, aiming, and skill usage. Master this, and you could actually overgrow his cons.

Skills

Passive : Dead of Night

This passive gives Xbal an extra 5 physical power every kill he makes. Maximum stack is 6, so at maximum the bonus you get is 30 physical power. Handy. A fed Xbal is always the best (or is it a fed god is always the best?)

Of course, when you don't get fed, the passive's dead.

Skill 1 : Branching Bola

This skill is pretty useful. Some notable examples are:
1.That extra "Oomph" to kill minions and attacking towers
2.Disturb enemies in teamfights with it's splitting
3.To damage enemies that use minions to body-block.

This skill is usually taken last. Early game when mana is crucial you don't want to be wasting it by using this skill and then missing your basic attacks. Late game, when the skill is at a higher level, the extra damage is actually useful to take out enemy gods, who may have actually purchased protection items by then.

Skill 2 : Poison Darts

These darts spread out in a cone and the farther they get, the gap between the darts are bigger. It is possible to hit someone with 2 or 2 darts, but then you'd have to be pretty close to the enemy. And we don't want that. This skill's usefulness lies not in the damage, but the poison and synergy to his 3. The poison does damage over time and slows.

Don't waste this on minions. It is far better to use it to harass enemies and poison the and take them out with Rising Jaguar.

Max this second. The damage increase is actually pretty useful for those times when the enemy retreats to their tower, at low health, and dying. (Remember Ao Kuang?)

Skill 3 : Rising Jaguar

Your main damage skill. Your escape. Your chase. Your kill-steal (no,really). Rising Jaguar IS, no doubt, your main skill.

It's so awesome i'm gonna have to divide it in 3 parts.
1. The dash. Especially useful for escaping or chasing.
2. The leap. The leap gives Xbal CC immunity.
3. The overkill. When Xbal is mid-air, he can "steer himself" and fire at every god and minion within range of his skill. Pay attention to the circle under you. That's the range of his skill.

The skill works in conjunction with Poison Darts, that is if enemies are poisoned by Poison Darts, this skill will deal extra damage. Handy for securing kills, or forcing the enemy to retreat.

Skill 4 (Ulti) : Darkest of Nights

His ulti is NOTHING like Neith's or Apollo's or Cupid's. Or Ah Muzen Cab's for that case. His ulti's worth lies in the utility and situation. It increases Xbalanque's movement speed AND attack range by 40ft.(Snipe 'em). As for the enemy gods, their vision is SEVERELY limited and when they still move after the darkness, they get stunned.

Pretty confusing? Let's take a look at how many situations can Darkest of Nights avert/synergize/avoid

1.Enemy is dying. Just you and him. Enemy is making a run for it and your Rising Jaguar is not ready. Pop in your ult. Enemy will either stop moving or make a run for it and get stunned as well. Better players usually get the timing so in this case use the increased range to your advantage.

2.You/a teammate is dying and need to retreat. Cover your retreat using the vision block to hinder the enemy. In Conquest it is pretty useful to help lanes.

3.Teamfight has begun and it is a 5v5. A surefire way to create chaos is to pop in Darkest if Nights. Plunge them into darkness (read:chaos) and take them out

4.Tank initiates using hard CC (for example Ares), then after they are stunned you follow in with your ulti as well. CC after CC.

Many more scenarios could be thought of. Key words for this skill : Timing is Everything.

Items

Main Build

1. Power Shoes (either Warrior Tabi or Ninja Tabi)
This is actually interchangeable. Warrior is when you need that penetration so bad and Ninja is when you need that CDR for your 2-3 harass-combi.

2. Devourer's Gauntlet
The power and lifesteal bonus is pretty useful on Xbal, especially when he needs to sustain a lane

3. Qin's Sais
Everybody loves this item. Not only it gives Power and Attack Speed it also has that nice passive useful for chewing down the enemy.

4. Jotunn's Wrath
Pure Power. Penetration. CDR for the skills and combi. Dare you ask for more?

5. Rage
Power. Attack speed. Crit chance. All the things a ranged ADC needs.

6. Deathbringer
The name lives up to it's expectations. The crit boost is amazing and it provides raw power.

Items you could consider buying

1. Shifter's Shield
Provides protection and power plus a pretty handy passive.

2. Breastplate of Valor
Provides protecton,mana,and cooldown reduction.

3. Transcendence
More kills = More mana. More mana = more kills. I know. It's a never ending cycle with Transcendence. And mana converted to power? Gimme gimme!

4. Titan's Bane
Enemy tank troubling you and your team? Get this item. Penetration helps.

5. Bulwark of Hope
My choice of magical defense. Gives a great bonus to health and magical defense. The passive is also useful to get out of tight spots.

6.Magi's Blessing
Provides both magical and physical protection, and reduces cc effect, this is a recommended item if the enemy has hard cc like Ymir.

Good Actives

1. Enfeebling Curse
Slows the enemy. Great for either 1v1 battles or makes you more of an asset in teamfight.

2.Sprint
Extra speed is always nice for Xbal. Helps chase down kills. Synergizes well with Enfeebling Curse

3. Girdle of Inner Power
Moar power is always nice. More teamfight presence? Go for Girdle of Support.

4. Purification Beads.
Let's face it. Xbal is gonna be stomped when hit by Ymir or Ares' CC and then focused upon. That's why you get beads. the cd reduction is nice as well.

Summary

Playing Xbalanque is really fun, but you should also be careful. He is not as punishing as Artemis but he should also be played with caution. One wrong move and placement and boom. Stunned. or silenced. or roflstomped.

To sum it up with a few words:
"Strike hard. Strike fast. Strike often".

Let me know how to improve this guide.I eagerly await feedback. If you decide to give the guide a downvote, do tell me the reason in the comment section. I will address the issue as soon as possible to make it better.

Thanks for reading my first guide on SmiteFire. FerrumSlash out.

For the rising jaguar part, actually the timing is too difficult, because at the dash there is no cc immunity, just the leap which is also a pretty short window. The timing is not effective and i don't recommend newer players to try it out. I'd rather get pulled and scram using RJ than missing my RJ cc immunity timing then can't escape once i'm pulled. Still, it's worth mentioning. Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks for replying!..Well, I find Rising Jaguar a very easy counter for Ares ultimate more like Chang'e. The only problem is, one has to be careful whether Rising Jaguar is available or on cooldown. Then of course beads is a safe choice just to keep it as a backup. Beads + rising Jaguar = Ares shutdown.

Xbalanque is a late game monster!. The guide overall is very efficient. May be a bit less of BBC would have been fine, I am talking of too much use of the center alignment. Also can use larger icon images using "icon=Jotunn's Wrath size=50", just put braces [ ] instead of " ". It would be like this .

Just two things to point out on contents:
- Use of Asi even Hastened Fatalis on him.
- U can mention for new players that with Rising Jaguar you need no beads against Ares
ultimate.

There are a couple of problems I have with your build, but mainly, the CDR. As all Hunters aside from Neith, Xbalanque is not ability reliant. He is up there with Artemis for having the most of his damage output from basic attacks. The CDR, while useful as Xbalanque has long cooldowns, isn't as good as other stats. Xbalanque has the hardest hitting auto attacks and the most power out of all the Hunters.
Bottom line: Build purely around your auto attacks. I don't like the choice of that many defensive items, aside from magi's blessing perhaps. Warrior Tabi is always the choice over Ninja Tabi, Jotunn's Wrath isn't as useful as an item like Titan's Bane. If you do want flat pen, I'd recommend Brawler's Beat Stick.

As for the skills, I'll have to disagree on this one. Poison Darts actually does more damage than Rising Jaguar, on top of having its cooldown scaling, on top of having the slow scaling. (look at the minimum damage in poison darts and compare it to the damage of Rising Jaguar. Leveling Poison Darts is better. And even so, if you say that Rising Jaguar is better, why the skill sequence? I mean, you seem to jump between Rising Jaguar and Poison Darts, when you say RJ is better. Additionally, you don't need to level Darkest of Nights past level 5, until you've maxed the rest of your skills.

If by saying "strong all-round" you meant strong throughout all the game phases, you are wrong my friend. True, Xbalanqe isn't as punishing and as risky as Artemis, but he still has a worse laning phase compared to her and the worst out of all the hunters. His clear is very, very rough and he is extremely mana hungry. His clear is too dangerous, as he has to position himself in the side of the wave to hit posion darts instead of being behind the wave. You could use Branching Bola, but it's not as effective.

I suppose you've already understood, that there is a lack of laning explanation. There is also a lack in gameplay and team fights.

The guide itself looks nice - the BBCoding is good; not too obstructive but highlights what needs to be highlighted.

This guide isn't enough. The build isn't good, the skills are messed up, there is a severe lack of gameplay. A downvote by me.
I hope my review helped you and that you take my words into consideration. I suppose you know about TT's general guides to guidecrafting and BBCoding so I wont' link them. Farewell.
