To build Skadi you dont wanna go crit builds like some other people do, as crit is literally useless for Kaldr. you want to go an ability based build with high damage and pen, and I'll explain it now:
For starting, you can decide between a variety of starts, that just adjusts to your playstyle, just pick whatever you feel better with.
Note: You can tweak the build order to your own taste!
Core Items
- Warrior Tabi: Warrior Tabi is obviously a must have. It is a better pick over
Ninja Tabi as
Rune Of The Hunt is less relevant now since her ult
Winter's Grasp got changed so
Kaldr doesn't get the inmunity anymore.
- Transcendence: This is a must have in
Skadi, however your build is going to be you must have Transcendence, she is an
ability-based hunter, and every ability-based hunter needs
Transcendence for the mana sustain and ability power it provides. Really good item overall.
Generic Build
- Asi: No,
Kaldr does not benefit from
lifesteal, but he does benefit from the rest attributes of
Asi.
Asi is a really good item pick on
Skadi as it gives
Kaldr more damage through attack speed and some pen to increase the damage input for both him and your abilities.
- Qin's Sais: And no,
Kaldr also does not benefit from the
Qin's Sais passive. Not long ago
Skadi got some
nerfs to her buddy, so this item is really one of your most sources of damage, gives you some good power for your abilities and some attack speed for both you and doggo, also althought
Kaldr does not benefit from the passive you still get a lot out of it. Overall a high damage item.
- Titan's Bane: This item is just to finish up the build by adding the last bit of penetration you needed to shred those tanky targets and towers down. Keep in mind that pen affects both you and
Kaldr, so
Skadi as an
ability-based hunter benefits a lot from this.
Optional Items
- Brawler's Beat Stick: Get this item if they have any
healers for example like
Hel or
Chang'e. You can take it either last item or sooner if you feel you need the antihealing ASAP.
- The Executioner: Be
really careful about this item, as its
not a really good option with
Titan's Bane as the passives together dont work really well. A good variation from
Titan's Bane and if you have more than one physical damage dealers in your team.
- Jotunn's Wrath: Good item overall, gives the pen you need for
Skadi and provides a good amount of physical power and
CDR to have your abilities up more often.
- Winged Blade: A good
defensive item if you're looking for one. Provides good defensive stats and its passive, the ability to run over slows, helps
Skadi by giving her more survivability.
- Bloodforge: Good
damage item. Usually take this if you feel you're really ahead. Do not go for this item really early as it is relatively expensive. You could change it for
Asi later in the build if the match exceeds for too long.
-Magi's Blessing: One of the best
defensive items with
Skadi that helps her get out of tricky situations. If you feel you need this early to survive ganks, go ahead.
- Spirit Robe: Standard
defensive item, should get it if you feel you need a lot more protections.
- Shifter's Shield: Really good item, one of my favourites to go indeed. Offers good
defense and great
damage depending on your
health.
- Runeforged Hammer: Not one of the best options, but offers some good team damage if your team has a lot of
Crowd Control. Kinda a really situational item as it relies a lot on
Crowd Control, but you can still get a lot out of it as
Piercing Cold,
Permafrost and
Winter's Grasp benefits from it.
- The Crusher: Power, pen and attack speed, all good stats, a good item if the enemy team still has tanky targets and you still feel you don't have all the pen you need.
Overall, I think this is a really good start to your guide. I like the way it's looking now after you made some of your changes! I don't have many complaints, but I do have a few suggestions.
Again, I really like the the way this guide has started, but I think with a bit more descriptions and depth, it could really shine! Keep up the good work!
I don't really have much time right now so I'll try and fix everything you've told me as soon as possible :P
Please have some mercy keep in mind this is actually the first guide I ever make on this page, so I still have a lot to learn, anyhow, thanks for all the suggestions, they are always welcome! <3
It's actually my first guide so I hope it can keep up with the good ones :P
I really want to expand the match-ups with every ADC, (and even gods o_O) but that would take a lot of time, if I had someone who actually offered to help me, but like this I'd have to play A LOT to actually have every matchup in the game, anyways I'll try and keep expanding it as I can! Thank you <3
If it can help, I also noticed a few typos or errors in the guide:
Already fixed all of them, thanks <3
Figure the others have you covered with their extensive comments. Will just add some of my own and keep it simple.
I don't usually build Jotunn's Wrath either but I still wrote it cause i see some people feel good with it.
Also I've corrected loads of stupid errors already but I'm just not a native english speaker so I might pass something out or even think some misspelling/grammar error is fine, so sorry about that </3
Anyways thanks for the +1! Any critiques are always welcome! <3
I before E, except after C.
Or sounding as A as in neighbor or weigh.
Or in compound words as in albeit.
Or if you're scaling the heights of a glacier.
Or if you're an atheist having a seizure.
Or if you're queueing a siege to your leisure.
Or if you're the fanciest, but sounding conceited.
The rules of language are quite uniform.
Except with technical words from other languages
like cuneiform.
You'd think this to be a sure science, but English can be weird.
(Yes, I wrote this myself.)
I love playing Skadi which is why she is one of my most played gods.
I like your generic build as I literally build the same things on her. My last item is usually The Crusher or Shifter's Shield. The Crusher for the power, pen and attack speed. Shifter's because of the good power and protections when you need it.
I am not the biggest fan of The Executioner just because it doesn't help with tower take down and doesn't work with Kaldr, but it still is a decent pickup for her. I would think it should be built later than at item 3, since not as many protections will be built that early. I think Asi is a solid Item 3, since you will need that lifesteal for sustain. Plus it gives you early cheap penetration and good attack speed.
Bloodforge is okay, but really expensive as you already state. You could make a note of saying sell Asi late game to get Bloodforge, but up to you.
The only big thing I don't necessarily like is your level order, granted it probably depends on how you use Permafrost. For me, I use Permafrost as pure disruption/escape, or on the minion wave. It helps with her minion clear, and it also disrupts the enemy from clearing as well (moves them out of position, maybe makes them miss). The damage from it is okay, but I think you would have better use if you upgraded Rune Of The Hunt 2nd after her Piercing Cold. With the latest patch, Permafrost is nerfed as well. It drops down to 50% scaling instead of 60% and also the movement speed buff from it is different at all levels (not flat 40% anymore) making me want to use it even more as a disruptor and not as a damage output ability.
My suggestion to you would be, if you still want to upgrade Permafrost 2nd is to put a total of 3 points into Rune Of The Hunt first then focus on Permafrost. The reason why is Kaldr gains a life point for each enemy killed at this level, minion or otherwise. You need Kaldr as much as possible for pushing/pressure and with only the 1 point into Kaldr until level 13, you will constantly have to sit and wait while he regains his life by his regeneration only. This puts you at a disadvantage because instead of your consistent 2vs1 you have with Kaldr, you become more passive waiting when you can be and should be more aggressive.
If you put the total of 3 points in first, you can hit the minion wave with Piercing Cold (with it fully upgraded it will take out most of them) then you finish them off with Kaldr so he gains some of his life back. Then you can focus on pushing the enemy god back with Kaldr, he gets hurt, you just rinse and repeat on the minion wave. After level 3 on Rune Of The Hunt, you could refocus on Permafrost since Kaldr only gains an extra ability at level 5. I would like to hear your thoughts on that suggestion.
Overall though, I like your build and your reasoning's behind the item selection. Your relics are good and ones I usually get as well. Your play style sections are fine as a general overview. With her not having an escape, she needs to be wary of ganks of course, but she should be somewhat aggressive still. Communication and wards are the key to helping with the impending ganks. You could also use Permafrost as an initiator as well. Enemy god hits Permafrostyou start to close in and send Kaldr while hitting them with Piercing Cold. At that point they should be escaping, if so, walk over your Permafrost for the boost and chase. If they escape away. Retreat back, hopefully Permafrost is still there so you can get the speed boost again. Not necessarily the safest thing to do, but if you know where everyone is(communication and wards) and know you can secure the kill this way or at the very least severely damage them, then it is definitely worth it.
For the grammar and spelling, the only thing that is sticking out to me as a sore thumb is the misspelling of Phase in the play style section. You have it as fase when it should be phase. Otherwise, I am good with the little mistakes especially if you are a non native English speaker. I give you props for doing this well with our screwed up language.
Thanks for taking your time to post this comment really <3
After reading it I already tweaked some things here and there like the build, or the leveling order. I said upgrading Permafrost first as I think it is better than Kaldr as he can die faster in teamfights and when fighting high attack speed oponents as he is no longer inmune now. Anyways if their team doesn't have a good way of killing doggo I think you have a really good point. I added your option too as "Everyone to it's own taste" right?
Thanks for the comment, really appreciate all critiques! <3
However, I think Cern should be considered a real counter because his summer stance procs twice, doesn't it? I'm not sure about his 2 tho. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Oh, and thank you very much for complimenting my guide, it's actually the first one I make so I hope it can keep up with the real good ones! <3
Nice Skadi guide so far. I know you said that this is your first guide, so I thought I would offer some tips that you may not know about, as well as my personal opinion on the guide.
First and foremost, your chapters are good subjects that should be in every guide. Build description, matchups, playstyles, etc.. That can result in a lot of writing, and it might help to give the guide a nicer look for the reader. You may or may not be aware of this Guide Template and this BB Coding Guide for newer members. They helped me a lot when I first joined.
I like the build that you provided, but I think that you could offer more variety. Your starting build variety is great, but then you have no more options until the last item. For example, if you're up against an enemy with strong healing, you might want Brawler's Beat Stick sooner rather than later.
To give the build more variety, I feel that you could add other item options as well. Some of my personal favorites that you may want to consider are:
As a final critique, I noticed a few spelling and grammar errors, namely in the Playstyle section. It doesn't bother me, but some people around here like to grammar police :p
Overall, good job, good information. I think this guide could be good with a few improvements here and there, as your free time allows. Thanks for making this guide!
Critiques are always welcome, I said this was my first guide already so I have still a lot more to learn.
The guide template and bb coding guide really helped me improve the guide quite a lot! It almost looks like a totally different guide now, I really have to thank you cause you're the one who made it possible in some way <3
I'm sure it's still not the best guide by far, but I really like how it ended up, I did realise how "boring" it was before and I hope it's much better now. Plz give me some feedback on how you feel the guide is right now and if you think it needs some other changes here and there! Thank you! <3
Oh and btw... Sorry for my grammar errors, I'm not english at all but I try my best to stay away from those grammar polices, but well, I guess ten years of english studying are still not enough! xD
I will be happy to tell you what I think about your new guide, but first you have to make the update public (something else I didn't know for a while, lol).
After you publish a guide, every change you make and save won't show to others until you click the "Publish" button again.
A good way to check this is to log out of your profile, then click on your guide. This is how other members and visitors see your guide.
By the way, I think your English is great! :D
Keep up the good work!
I published it now, I guess you can really tell it's my first guide :P
Well, hope you like it now that the changes are visible!
(And thanks for the english <3)
That reminds me: "shutted" is not the proper spelling; the correct spelling is "shut". English is weird in that the same word can be used for both the present and past tenses. And people wonder why non-English speakers have issues with it...
I think most English speakers don't care.
@Skapeek: you're very welcome. I don't recall seeing any other errors, but I will notify you of them if I do. All-in-all, this is a nice guide; it reminded me that Skadi was an ability based hunter and not a basic attacking one. I had a clash game that went over 30 minutes and I had over 49k damage at the end because I built her with Transcendence, pen, and power instead of attack speed like I had been doing. Man what a difference...I also did the most structure damage that match. 3>
I'm happy that the guide actually helped someone! <3 Thank you for all the support, it's awesome how nice people are over here!
(cough)

Oh yeah I know about that, it's just that I didn't realize that "shut" was that kind of verb... Anyways thanks! Already changed it, any more spelling/grammar/"anything" errors are always welcome, thank you!
