Sea All Those Kills?

Book of Thoth is the item I prefer to start with right away so i can get my stacks started as soon as possible. Book of Thoth is a great source of magical power and mana as well. Poseidon has no issue clearing waves of minions making it possible to get this item to its full potential fairly early in the game.

Shoes of the Magi is my choice over the Shoes of Focus personally as they provide some early penetration and a little bonus magical power allowing you to hopefully secure some of those early game kills.

Gem of Isolation provides us with some health, some crowd control reduction, and some pretty potent magical power. The main reason for buying this though is for the passive ability that makes enemies hit by your damaging abilities move 25% slower for 2 seconds. This will make your whirlpool ability very scary for the opponent as they are stuck in it and cant seem to get out.

Spear of Desolation has great magical power, gives us some extra penetration, and also gives us some cooldown reduction. This will help with some of those magical protections that your opponents are building as well as give you the opportunity to spam those abilities a little more.

Rod of Tahuti is bought for obvious reasons. This bad boy will give you tons of magical power with a passive that gives you more magical power......

Soul Reaver provides us with some more magical power which by this point you can tell is what we are going for here lol. This item is also nice to have for the passive ability which is when a god takes damage from your abilities, they take 10% of their maximum Health in additional True damage. If multiple gods are hit, the damage is applied to the one with the greatest maximum Health. This can only occur once every 40 seconds.

Aegis Amulet will be picked up often as Poseidon does not technically have an escape so this will be your way to get out of danger and prevent the enemy team from securing that kill on you.

Purification Beads will provide you with some protection from crowd control as Poseidon doesn't have any crowd control immunity in his kit either. Save yourself from an Ares ultimate, a pesky Ymir freeze, or any other crowd control the enemies may be throwing out there.

Blink Rune can be useful, I promise. I know you're probably thinking this is an odd choice for Poseidon. I like to grab this if i dont need Purification Beads because it can help you close the distance to secure those kills that are trying to run away.

magi's blessing
Bancroft's Talon can be bought if you feel like you need some lifesteal although I'm not a big fan of it. if I were to go this route I would probably replace the Soul Reaver and build it between the Gem of Isolation and the Spear of Desolation. Shoes of Focus can be bought in place of Shoes of the Magi if you prefer the cooldown over the penetration. If you decide to do this I would try to get a penetration item third. Obsidian Shard can be used to replace Spear of Desolation if you wish at the cost of losing a little cooldown but still providing that damage and penetration you need while also being a little cheaper. Chronos' Pendant is another option if you wish to go with a more cooldown heavy build. Once again if you feel that you need this I would replace the Soul Reaver and build it after you build whatever shoes you choose. Breastplate of Valor is a great defensive option if you find yourself getting shredded by physical damage over and over again while still providing some cooldown to help out your offense. Magi's Blessing is a good option if your opponents have a lot of crowd control while also providing a small amount of physical and magical protections.

Passive - Changing Tides

Changing Tides will provide Poseidon with a movement speed increase and an increase to ability damage. You will notice you will have a meter on your screen that fills up with water, this is his tide level. You will receive a 10% increase in your tide level upon landing a basic attack. At max tide level you can receive up to an extra 15% movement speed and an extra 20% ability damage. Note that using abilities will lower your tide level though.

1 - Tidal Surge
Tidal Surge will shoot a wave out in a straight line that will damage and knock back all enemies it hits. This ability deals good damage and can also be used to knock an enemy away from yourself or a teammate to give them a little extra time to run away. 30% of your tide level will be consumed using this ability. I max this one second.

2 - Trident
Trident provides Poseidon with a movement speed increase and will allow you to essentially fire 3 basic attacks at once. This ability lasts 6 seconds and costs no tide level to activate but will still increase your tide level upon landing a basic attack. After activating this it will be easier to run away or land your basic attacks that the enemies are trying to evade. Great ability overall but I max this third as this isn't a basic attack heavy build.

3 - Whirlpool
Whirlpool when activated will summon a whirlpool on the ground that will deal damage while crippling (preventing movement abilities) and pulling enemies towards the center. This ability combined with a Gem of Isolation can be a complete nightmare for the enemy team. This will cost you 20% of your tide level to cast. I max this ability first as it is not only great for clearing waves and damaging your opponent but also slowing them down to support your team.

4 - Release the Kraken!
Release The Kraken! will summon a kraken from the ground that will damage and slow targets in its radius. Enemies that get hit in the center of the kraken take increased damage, are knocked up, and stunned. This will cost 50% of your tide level. Level this ability up any time you get a chance to as it is very effective at slaying the opponent and deals massive damage while also crowd controlling the enemy for you or your team to finish them off.
