Introduction

Hey guys, it's me Greenevers! This is my guide for my most played god in Smite, Loki. My in-game name is Regen. Updated for Season 5!

About the Trickster God

Loki is a high single target melee assassin. Loki benefits mainly from power, penetration, and cooldown reduction. His kit relies on his abilities but his abilities rely on his basic attacks.

Loki's unique clear ability, decoy, is what makes him a viable solo laner. Loki is one of the few gods in Smite that can stealth. His burst potential is enormous if played right.

Skills

A unique passive that synchronizes well with both Vanish and Assassinate. This is a simple yet great passive where the power of basic attacks behind the enemy are buffed by 20%.

Behind You! (Tips and Tricks)

When clearing any camps in the jungle, use decoy to taunt the creeps and attack from behind to apply your passive. You see an extra icon pop up so you'll know if you're getting the damage.

One of the most unique abilities in the game of Smite. This ability can be used for ganking, escaping, chasing, and damage. The bleed damage is nice, because many times I just vanish behind an enemy, apply the bleed and instead of auto attacking to secure the kill, I just run away.

Vanish (Tips and Tricks)

When escaping from an enemy, double back when you Vanish. Meaning while they're chasing you, Vanish and while you're invisible, turn and run the other way. Make sure not to keep going that way, go left/right or you'll most likely find another enemy. If you're ganking, try to vanish a bit farther away from the enemy since it also has a distinct noise which will cause an enemy to run away. Be careful! Many things break this ability and cut your Vanish like potions, Assassinate, and some relics.

decoy

A simple clearing ability which taunts minions to attack it. Place decoy on archers so because they will not move in range of the ability to attack it like melee NPC's will. decoy can also be used to "body block" AA's & some abilities, dive towers, and just "distract" enemy minions while you go in for the kill. decoy however, DOES NOT get rid of backdoor protections.

Decoy (Tips and Tricks)

If an enemy god is sitting under his tower and your Assassinate is under cooldown, dive the tower with decoy. Before going in, put the decoy anywhere in the tower's circle (put it on the side so it won't get in the way of you running in/out) and decoy will take damage for 3 seconds. Keep in mind, the moment you attack the god, the tower will start shooting at you, so be prepared.

If you're low on mana and escaping an enemy, don't use decoy to "bodyblock" an enemy, wait for the Vanish oppurtunity and you have a much better chance of escaping (make sure enemy's CC is on CD). You can also put this ability down on the enemy and ult on them. That way, they'll receive the damage of decoy as well.

aimed strike

Loki's steroid. Not only does it grant you extreme additional power on top of your burst, but it slows the enemy god. This helps you apply the rest of your burst and other AA's. This is also Loki's only ability which the CD goes down as it is ranked up.

Aimed Strike (Tips and Tricks)

Many people use aimed strike after you go in with Assassinate. Alternatively, depending on the situation, you could use aimed strike before you use Assassinate. Assassinate doesn't break this ability. Also be careful when sneaking up on people. This ability is known for its obnoxious noise so if you can confirm a kill without it and your enemy doesn't know you're there, refrain from using it as it will be a waste of mana and it is possible your enemy may escape.

This can be used to initiate (single god), to finish off an enemy god, to protect an ally (stun), and to escape. The reason why Assassinate's damage is rather low compared to a lot of other god's ultimate numbers is because Loki heavily depends on the burst damage right after Assassinate.

Assassinate (Tips and Tricks)

For a short duration, Loki is immune to CC when he uses Assassinate on a god. If you just use Assassinate to teleport to avoid an Ares' ultimate, you'll get pulled. However if you ult the Ares or another god at the right time, you won't get pulled by No Escape!

Skill Combos and Attack Chain Resets

Generic
aimed strike
This combo should be your regular all-in combo for a target that will be easily 100-0'd. One where you don't use auto-attack cancelling, and one that is most familiar with Loki players. Be careful when using Vanish since you have no escape after this. Note this is not the most efficient combo, those are listed after skill combo #2.

Quick Finish
aimed strike

For this, you use Assassinate to initiate instead of cleaning up the kill. The reason you use aimed strike before you go into Assassinate is because you save time instead of ulting, auto attacking, then using aimed strike and then giving out that basic.

In that time, it may be that the enemy uses a jump or something and you waste mana and it's on cooldown. This way, the next auto attack after your ultimate is going to hit with extra damage no matter what. If the enemy is not dead, autoattack or use Vanish as a chase. Try not to waste Vanish because it is extremely helpful for your escape.

Attack Chain Resets

Also known as auto attack cancelling, attack chain resets are a way to "interrupt" your auto attack chain (Loki's being 1/.5/.5/.5/1.5). The time for Loki's first basic attack to go off in his chain is the shortest compared to the rest of his chain. So, you can use your abilities to interrupt it after the first basic. If you have CD's, you have the option to auto attack cancel before the last auto instead of after the first.

With enough practice, you can reset your attack chain with most of your combos to dish out more damage in the same amount of time. The cool thing with Loki is that his aimed strike cooldown at max rank with 40% CDR is the same time of the duration of the buff. So you can aimed strike before hand and end up hitting off two aimed strike's in succession. (40% CDR is not ideal in S3 unless you build Breastplate of Valor)

To use auto attack cancelling with the previous combos, you have to sneak in an auto before each ability. Instead of just using Vanish and aimed strike, you could instead Vanish, auto attack, then aimed strike auto attack. It does get some getting used to and the gap between you and your enemy has to be a tad bit closer even if you get it down instantaneously.

Instead of using aimed strike, try auto attacking into an aimed strike. Try adding in decoy as well. If you need that quick rotation to finish off someone, an auto into decoy into an auto is 75% more damage than just two autos. Starting to sound confusing? Just try it out in-game, it's not as confusing as it sounds.

Items

All of Loki's abilities have 100% or more scaling on his abilities (his Vanish ticks add up to 100%). Loki is the only assassin with 100% or more scalings on all of his abilities. By building pure power on Loki, his abilities' damage will skyrocket, even to the late game.
Power

Power is great, but physical defense is a huge barrier to Loki's burst potential. Penetration allows you to "ignore" a certain amount of protections your enemy has. This will allow you to shred through base protections and have an easier time against those bully warriors in lane.
Penetration

teleport glyph Relics are very important in gameplay. Some are essential such as Purification Beads, and others are more on the fun side like Blink Rune.
relics

Conquest

Lane Phase

Look to farm, farm, and farm! You will have to use decoy twice along with some basics to clear waves early game. Make sure to get as many autos in before the enemy solo clears the wave. Melee archers if you can but if the enemy solo is ranged, they will take advantage and poke you while you auto archers. Then, it's safer to decoy and auto melee minions. Try to get as many last hits to get Transcendence up as fast as you can.

If you feel like you're doing fine, head back the moment you have enough for Transcendence right after clearing the wave. If your enemy solo is giving you too much trouble, back and teleport glyph to get the xp from that next wave. Keep farming and try to take advantage of small mistakes of your enemy solo to get ahead of them.

Split Pushing

Loki is the most annoying pick in solo (even I think he's annoying). The main reason is because he isn't forced to fight and you can just sit in lane insta clearing and the moment the enemy solo rotates, keep going until phoenix. One of Loki's niche is split pushing. He's successful in this because of his mobility and penetration/power based build.

As easy as left click split push sounds, there are ways to improve your split push experience.

1. teleport glyph and Vision
This item is key to Loki's split push. It will allow you to teleport up to one of your wards that is close to a pushed up lane, take a tower or phoenix incredibly fast and get out without any consequences. A smart enemy solo will get this item to rotate and the moment they see you split pushing, they'll follow you with this active.

You should know where every enemy is on the map. Wards are well worth the money. They let you play up with less worry, and also serve the purpose to teleport to take a structure later. Should be thinking, "Oh Anhur definitely backed when he saw me take a tier 2 tower". If you know how many people are heading your way you can make the choice to fight or run.

2. Use of Hydra's Lament proc / decoy
Loki's aimed strike will not do extra damage to a tower. However, when you have Hydra's Lament online, you will gain the passive power bonus when using an ability. This will affect your structure damage. decoy can be used to tank a tower but be careful because it does not remove backdoor protections so you will hit a tower or phoenix for less until minions come into proximity of the structure.

3. Communication
This is byfar the most important thing when split pushing. You need to communicate with your team that you're focusing on split pushing and they need to communicate who is backing or heading towards you. Your team should be prepared to fight 4v5 if needed and they need to know. There could also be a clutch situation where you could end the game but you need your teammates to stop all their backs. Communication is key!

hey! so i don't really like or play loki but i have a few suggestions for you:
loki's strongest (although he's not very good at it) role is jungle, so you shouldn't be playing him adc... and solo is not really good but eh its okay.

also, Morningstar has been buffed and nerfed, they added +5 MP5 and they increased the gold from 550 to 600, so you should change the starter build where you include this item and substract a Mana Pot.

Also you should include Bastet in the threads list. Her tick damage can reveal you, and once you're out of your stealth she can chase you out with the cats and kill you really easily. even if you ult away, she can re-engage with Pounce.
That's all! X

Historically at least, Loki's arguably strongest role was Solo. He could avoid a fight in that lane while farming easily, and get to a point where he could split push and be an objective killer.

In Jungle, he doesn't have the most efficient clear, which is important to some of the strongest junglers. Decoy can definitely do a lot of damage, but some gods can clear in 2 seconds or less at a certain stage of the game. His Decoy takes 3 seconds to deploy, and that can potentially slow things down.

Starting Transcendence in that build is just not really suggested, though it can work. It takes a while to stack and has no penetration. Typically, Trans would be built 3rd, or even 4th.

But overall, it's sort of best right now just to not play him (unless you really want to in casuals). He's just pretty weak right now. HR nerfed him pretty badly.

Hi bran.

Loki to me it's not valuable in a team in this season. Neither was he in season 5... In a real team, in the solo lane you want a god with valuable CC, tankiness and teamfight ( Artio, Achilles, Terra, King Arthur, etc.) The only strong points about loki are farming, splitpushing and diving a single target in the backline easily. But he doesn't brings a lot to the table these days.

Also yes, loki has a terrible clear, but what i meant with "jungle" is that he is an assassin, so he is technically made to be jungle, he has some gank potential and good burst damage. Anyways, he has the worst clear in the game period. Like if you think of the slowest clears in assassins right now like Bastet, Arachne or Da Ji, these 3 have some competent clear besides Loki which can take between (I suppose) 7 to 10 seconds to clear a jungle camp as lvl 1 in his own.
And he can get abused, snowballed from, and easily outrotated and outfarmed. Its really easy to steal loki's jungle, since he has poor presence in the early game.

I'm not sure why you mentioned Transcendence there, since i didn't mentioned it lol, but i agree, its an OK item that gives mana sustain but definitely you should get The Crusher or [Jotunn's Wrath]] previously.

You need the decoy damage to clear camps.
1
Branmuffin17 (394) | July 10, 2019 1:50pm
Note that Green has 2 build types...Solo/ADC, and Jungle.

For Solo/ADC, the early priority is lane waveclear, and this is where you're seeing Decoy maxed first, with significantly less emphasis on burst damage.

For Jungle, he only has 1 point in Decoy until level 15, and this is because he's going to be looking to gank. In that case, he has Aimed Strike maxed first (which is also important for camp clear), followed by Vanish.

You could level Vanish earlier, but camp clear is going to be absolutely awful early game, and you'll likely find yourself behind...

One other option you could do, if you really wanted Vanish leveled earlier and not kill your clear, is to put at least 3 points in Decoy before switching to prioritizing Vanish.

Why no Bloodforge listed as an optional item?

Hey dude, i think you should concider Hearthseeker as a really good item (since it was reworked) that gives an additionnal burst (almost as efficient as the 3 i think). :)

Man, I've worked a lot on my guide, but I really like the way you describe everything, from items to abilities and specific details within. Like how you branched out to include more roles...believe the original was Solo only?

One thing I noticed, for S4, you'll need to update your relic terminology. You may also want to talk about how you can upgrade them, and which ones/when to upgrade. (Besides the relic section, you talk about "Teleport" in the Split Pushing section below it)

Also, you'll need to update your wording on some of the items. For example, I think you're still hinting at the S3 version of The Crusher's passive, and for Brawler's Beat Stick, you say it has the same stats as Crusher.

This is a long-standing guide that has aged very nicely.
1
Greenevers (105) | February 28, 2017 6:49pm
Yep, fixed the relics. Slowly updating everything. Originally was just solo and arena I think then switched just to solo. Now it's solo, adc, and a fun jungle build to mess around with. I'm probably adding in some brief jungle tips and even some stuff on 1v1 Duel cause although scummy, he's popular in that. Thank you Branmuffin!

My Loki build is nearly Identical to both the builds you have created. I always build Transcendence first, second I build Warrior Tabi, third I build Jotunn's Wrath, fourth I build Hydra's Lament, fifth I build Titan's Bane, and finally I build Void Shield.

V_Valentyne (1) | September 13, 2016 6:27pm
In my opinion, this is the ONLY Loki build really worth using - though I typically swap out the last item for stonecutting sword (extra movement and damage a big plus while hunting down victims.)
Only problem now is with the jungle section, since due to the new changes you can't get red power pots at the start of the game. I'm gonna try out a few things myself to see if there is a good item to make Loki viable starting in the jungle.

Great job! It works really well, and thanks for creating it. I just wanted to know why you don't build any attack speed, as I see a lot of in game Lokis build it.
1
Greenevers (105) | June 6, 2016 6:48am
Thanks. And you don't want to build attack speed because Loki benefits a lot more from power, penetration, and cooldown reduction. There's no room or need for attack speed in his build.

Very nice guide. I'd definitely want to try bloodforge from patch 3.8, the new passive fits perfectly. Do you have any suggestions which item to replace and where to fit it in?

Greenevers (105) | May 11, 2016 3:39am
Thanks! I've only played pts once so I don't have the best idea of whether it'd be good on him or not. If I were to guess right now, I'd probably replace The Crusher or Hydra's Lament.

Well I included a jungle build for Loki and I initially intended to provide a jungle gameplay guide as well. As of now, I don't plan on adding anything for jungling just because you have to be pretty confident with Loki or jungling in general to be able to jungle with him.

Jungling with Loki is almost the same play style except you focus a bit more on rotations & ganks than in the solo lane. Although you still want to concentrate on farming in the jungle, split pushing isn't a priority. This is why you look for Hydra's Lament since you won't really need the early penetration as much against warriors and to split push. You need to know how to use Loki in a team fight over and over again which is a lot harder than just afk split pushing and farming. I wouldn't recommend trying it other than for fun tbh. I mean I play it all the time, and it can work sometimes but it's not all that viable.
