Vamana grows to an enormous giant for 5s gaining immunity to Crowd Control, Protections, Physical Power, Physical Lifesteal, a stacking shield that cannot exceed 1000 Health, and his Basic Attacks now damage all nearby enemies. His Movement Penalty for Attacking, Backpedaling, and Strafing are reduced by 20% while in this state. Successful attacks on enemies also provide stacking Movement Speed for 3s. When Vamana is in Colossal form, taking damage from gods increases the duration to a max of 9s and Vamana can pass through player made walls. You may cancel his giant form early.

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my guide for Vamana, the 5th Avatar of Vishnu

My name is Big Damage. I am a dedicated Smite player and spend most of my time playing Ranked Conquest, Ranked Joust and some Assault. In Conquest I mostly enjoy playing Solo and Support, however this build is just for Vamana in Solo.

This is my 15th SmiteFire guide, and constructive criticism is always welcome. Before I start I would like to add credits to Zilby and Mowen for the templates and notes on how to implement bbcode, this guide would not be possible without it!

Without further ado, onto the guide!

HOW TO PLAY + TIPS AND TRICKS


This part of the guide will provide you with information needed to play Vamana throughout the different stages of the game.

Early Game / Laning Phase

This is easily one of Vamanas weakest points in the game. He can't full-clear the wave with Umbrellarang until level 9, his poke is pretty poor and he hasn't got the safety of his ultimate until level 5. Just be patient, don't get too aggressive unless they make a mistake you can capitalise on.

Mid Game / "Skirmish" Fighting

Once you reach level 9 and have some defence, you need to try and proxy. Place some wards in the jungle to stay safe from their jungler or mid rotating and clear wave between their tier 1 and tier 2 tower, then go in the enemy jungle and invade their camps. If you proxy then recall a minion wave wont be lost to your tower when you run back either.

If you have a good lead you can also look to rotate with your ultimate in the mid lane. With a far enough lead you should be able to secure a kill with ease. If the Greater Scorpion on Gold has been taken you can look to clear the Gold Fury when you rotate.

Late Game / Team fighting

If you managed to get a lead in the mid game you should be okay for a while in the late game, but as their mid and ADC complete your builds (and probably have antiheal too) the pressure you put out with your ultimate can be negligible. Just try to be annoying as possible hitting your Armored Umbrella and Umbrellarang and run away with Clear The Path outside of diving with your ultimate.

Tips + Tricks
  • Vamana has great AA cancels in his 3 base abilities.

  • Vamanas Ultimate, Colossal Fury can walk through player made walls, such as Odins Ring of Spears.

  • Don't get Frostbound Hammer AND Hastened Katana to stick to enemies while in your ult as it's a bit overkill, just get one.

  • Make sure to use abilities before you ult so that they cooldown while in your ult instead of sitting there ready to use while you can't use them.

  • You can cancel your ultimate at any time.

WHICH RELICS?

Core Relics

  • Blink Rune is one of if not the strongest relic in the game. Enabling you to close the gap on an enemy can result in a lot of great outcomes. If you force their mobility escape, then you have Clear The Path to chase them and then ult. If they don't have one then they just have a huge Colossal Fury on their face.

  • Shield of Thorns isn't as good as it once was with the nerfs it has received, however it's still a core relic for him. When Vamana ults enemies will either run away until your ult has ended or turn on you thinking they can kill you. In the latter, thorns is incredible for putting more damage out for kill potential.
Situational Relics

As good as Shield of Thorns is on Vamana, the nerf to it has opened up other options to be picked up on him.
  • Purification Beads is always a solid choice if you're picking more damage up in your build, or if they have a lot of hard CC ( Ares' No Escape, Fenrirs Ragnarok, Tyrs Fearless, etc).

  • Horrific Emblem can be good instead of Shield of Thorns if they have 2 or 3 AA gods, and can make ulting in a teamfight a bit more forgiving on with its upgrade reducing the amount of damage they put out.

  • teleport glyph can be useful if you're in a match up where you're struggling to get out past your lane to proxy, although niche.

WHAT TO BUY, WHY AND WHEN

In this section I will go over strong core items for Vamana, why they are useful and when to purchase them

Item 1
Breastplate of Valor

When you pick Vamana it is pretty much just for the ultimate. So aside from him having long-ish cooldowns you want that ultimate to be up as often as possible so you're aiming for 30-40% CDR on him late game. Getting this 20% boost in the early game plus the 10% (20% with greater scorpion buff) puts you in a great spot. Also due to his passive Breastplate of Valor gives you 13 physical power too which is nice.

Item 2
Talisman of Energy

Because of Vamanas playstyle, you don't really want to spend a lot of time boxing the enemy. Farming as many minions and camps as quickly as possible to get a lead is the name of the game with him, which makes this item perfect for him. Talisman allows you to clear waves and run to somewhere else to get more xp constantly and is a must buy every single game for him. The sooner you get this item the better, but you don't want to get it first if you have a physical opponent.

Item 3
Frostbound Hammer

Sometimes it can be a struggle to stick to an enemy while in Colossal Fury. Keeping the passive proc'd on the enemy makes them an easy target for you and your allies. Picking up Frostbound in the early-mid game is best as it does fall off in the super late game though so if it isn't doing much for you it isn't a problem to sell it at the 35 ish minute mark.

Item 4
Mantle of Discord

Mantle is just a great catch-all item, and while you're in your ult late game the enemies might have antiheal and group on you to kill you so if your health really goes down the stun Mantle puts out might give a chance to cancel your ult and use Clear The Path to make a quick escape. Because of its steep price and teamgfight use it's better to get this in the mid-late game.

ABILITIES AND COMBOS


Passive - Sleeping Giant

This is a decent passive that you don't really need to think about it while playing unlike other gods. Having 20% of your physical prots transfered to physical power is great because in Solo you should normally be building a lot of physical prots in game anyway as the majority of damage you will be taking is physical. Warrior, Assassin, Hunter, minions, towers, objectives all deal physical damage whereas only Mages, Guardians and some items/relics deal magical damage.


1 - Clear the Path

Being able to dash through away for a long distance makes you hard enough to lockdown, but knocking enemies up on the way and delaying their time to chase you makes it even more annoying. If you're being hard chased you can use this, then ult if they're still on you, then when your ult is over use it again to get further away. This is what makes


2 - Armored Umbrella

Probably the worst ability in Vamanas kit. Just does damage in a cone in front of you, only good use it has is for an auto cancel which is still just damage and nothing else. Before level 9 hit this on the side of the wave after using Umbrellarang to full clear, after level 9 just hit it on the front of the wave to full clear.


3 - Umbrellarang

Just a decent wave clear ability, nothing too special although it does deal a lot of damage on a double tap. Similar to Armored Umbrella the Umbrellarang has a decent AA cancel. It does a decent movement speed and attack speed slow so hitting a target with this before ulting should make them an easier target once you ult.


4 / Ultimate - Colossal Fury

You don't pick Vamana for any part of his kit other than this ultimate, it is just ridiculously bloated. You gain CC immunity, physical power, physical and magical protections, cone area AA's, the movement slow while autoing is reduced, you gain movement speed for each auto hit, you gain a shield and health every 0.2 seconds each equal to 1% of your total health lasting for 6 seconds. Oh and did I forget to mention that each time you are hit by an enemy the duration is increased by 0.5 seconds to a total of 10 which can give you these effects for up to 16 seconds.

Combos


This is your standard ability damage combo. Hit them with the 3 > 2 and Clear The Path through them to get back to safety. Weave AA cancels in here where possible.



Use this combo when aggressing into their team to use your ult. Close the distance with your 1, hit them with your 3 > 2 combo so they're all on cooldown and ult to chase them down. When your ult is finished your abilities should be available to use again. Weave AA cancels in here where possible.



Similar to the previous combo, however here we incorporate Blink Rune to close the distance. This allows us to use our 3 > 2 combo and still have our Clear The Path to close the distance if they try to escape so we can use our ultimate on them and there's little they can do about it. Weave AA cancels in here where possible.

CONCLUSION // SUMMARY

Vamana can be a total menace in the right hands and is extremely fun to play, I hope this build was useful. Thank you for reading!
