Introduction

Poseidon is a very powerful magical attack god, if played right. Generally speaking, there are two variations of Poseidon: Ability Power Poseidon, and Attack Speed Poseidon. One deals with dealing huge amounts of damage in bursts of abilities, while the other deals with wearing down the enemy with combinations of abilities, use of Poseidon's trident buff with basic attacks, and staying mobile. The new buff for poseidon is very helpful, as his 2 no longer uses tide. Pay attention to his tide, as a full tide can mean the difference between life and death, whether that be the extra damage to finish off an opponent, or the extra speed for chasing and/or retreats and avoiding ganks.

Items

All of the items listed have a reason for being there, and they all work well with poseidon. Polynomicon helps your sustain with lifesteal and its passive is amazing with Poseidon's 2, for instance. If you aren't using a fatalis attack speed pos, then gem of isolation works very well, especially when you can dramatically slow an opponent wit whirlpool to take them out with your ult. If you are gonig mid as poseidon, vampiric shroud is a great item. Its passive and mp5 keeps you in longer, and finishing minions with i well placed 3 or 1 is a good way to farm without using much mana. Either obsidian shard of spear of magus is always great, for they help a lot against thsoe tanky gods i.e ymir, chaac, tyr, etc. If you find yourself fallnig behind, void stone might be a good idea. I have encountered hels and aphrodites mid lane. If you struggle to keep up with them, you can opt to go divine wrath instead of polynomicon, then sell that later if you like. Finishing a build with soul reaver is always a good idea. Poseidon's ult destroys with that. As for attack speed poseidon, fatalis is a great idea. You can go that instead of gem, or both, but the attack movement buff and slowing might be some overkill. Polynomicon is still god with his trident, and obsidian shard is still useful. Demonic grip isntead of spear of magus though is important, as getting demonic's attack speed a prot reduction early can be very useful. Rod of tahuti is always, always helpful. Get it.

Skills

Poseidon is a great farming god. His 3 1 combo is excellent for taking out lines of minions. Be careful early game however, as he uses a lot of mana quickly. That's why vampiric shroud is a good starter, for both life and mana sustain. When playing mid, i generally upgrade his 3 first, to farm. After that however, i usually keep the abilities even, but in this order: upgrade his 1, then 2, then 3. His 1 should usually be a level ahead of his 3, because poseidon's 1 is his main dmg. In order to use his ult right, you have to be precise. If you don't hit someone in the center of the kraken, its basically useless, unless they have almost no health, which is an ult waste. The center does so much more dmg, and stuns as well. I have 2 strategies.: Wait until the other god pushes. Once they are exposed and missing some health, i go up to them and wear them down with my 2. I set a whirlpool at their feet so their is no escaping, ult , and then 1 if necessary. Another way for an almost surefire ult kill is again to wait until they have about 1/2 health (or judge for yourself based on how much dmg you do and the penetration you have). Place a whirlpool and then use tidal surge. Use your ult, and then finish with trident, if necessary.

Actives

Sprint and Aegis are generally a good idea, because a. Poseidon is squishy, and b. He has no escapes.

Pros / Cons

Pros:
- VERY high aoe damage.
- Extremely helpful in teamfights, especially with Kraken
- Can place a whirlpool to try to escape
- High mobility and damage at full tide

Cons:
- Squishy
- No escapes
- a bad 1v1 vs. any crit builder late game

End.

Well, thats my build. This is my first guide i have made, but Poseidon was my very first god, so i have some experience with him. Feel free to comment, give some suggestions, and please rate good if i helped you, because thats what i am here for! To help you. So please help me help you ;) Thx

I'm not going to consider the attack speed Poseidon in this review.

The build isn't actually that bad. I would say though, that Spear of the Magus should be a core item and you should never consider Obsidian Shard, unless you are facing a team of 5 guardians that build full magical protection.

As for the rest; I, myself, prefer shoes of magi over Shoes of Focus. Since Poseidon is a burst Mage, the penetration is more useful. And if I do want some CDR, Breastplate of Valor or Chronos' Pendant are my choices. Which brings me to: Situational items? such as Breastplate of Valor, Void Stone etc.? I would mention, though, that you put Divine Ruin, which is a situational item.

Soul Reaver isn't a good option for him. Yes, the Kraken does a **** ton of damage, but it's still not as powerful as something like spirit's tempest or Earthshaker to aim for these one-shots with this item. And since you do build Polynomicon, and generally speaking, with the 3-4-1 combo, it's enough to finish them, with poly even more.

You could add some more active,s like Beads or Combat Blink.

The skill sequence is messed up. I won't say much, but this; you'd want to max your Whirlpool first, Tidal Surge second and Trident last, where as, of course, you put a point into Release The Kraken! whenever possible. Your leveling priority should be:
Release The Kraken! > Whirlpool > Tidal Surge > Trident.

You don't explain much in this guide...
The items explanations aren't quite satisfying, you don't explain much how to use your skills, your role in team fights, positioning etc.

There is a severe lack of BBCoding in this guide. It doesn't look appealing at all.

This guide isn't good, to say the least. It's only redeeming quality is the build, which is decent. Other than that, it's bad.
A downvote from me.
