The categories are based on class (Assassin, Guardian, Hunter, Mage, Warrior), so the game mode a guide is written for (or role within that game mode) shouldn't change the category that that guide falls under.

Going for something unusual will not disqualify you, though as a judge I would want to see an explanation of what that unusual pick offers over more common options, i.e. what makes it worth picking. The sentence you quoted roughly translates to what xmysterionz posted above, it's more to say that picking a common mage pick mid and then building full tank on them will most likely reduce your odds of winning ;)

I'll chime in here, with my opinion.

If the build is well thought out, and makes sense for the purpose, it can and should be considered.

The role and mode should be defined. Keep in mind also that these are broken down by class. I'm covering hunters, so if you've got a Hunter build for mid, jungle, etc., I'll review. It's not restricted to the main role.

In all seriousness, I will judge each submitted guide independently and will hold everybody to the same standards regardless of whether or not they're a regular here. I will say that I do NOT look kindly on people who build crit items on warriors, especially not ability based ones like Chaac. That doesn't preclude attack speed items where appropriate and are justified. If I see Deathbringer anywhere in your build, you can be pretty sure I'm going to take off points for it. I will also be discussing builds with the other judges should I have questions. Good luck to everybody.
