My Introduction

Hello Stuke here, once again. In this guide, we're going to be taking a look at the most prominent and most well know god in the Nordic pantheon, a God whose very name sends shivers down the spines of even the most battle-hardened of Frost Giants. Ladies and gentlemen, the thunder of the gods, Thor.
Note: you don't have to follow this guide to the smallest detail, these are suggestions on how to play Thor. I encourage you to look at the comment section below and see other suggestions.

Introduction to Thor

Thor is a Physical, Melee, Assassin with excellent mobility and high damage in a team fight. His main playstyle is to use all of his abilities to take down a target with a ton of burst damage. A fairly easy god to pick up for a first-timer, Thor's high mobility and damage makes him a good pick for any team comp.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • High Damage
  • High Mobility
  • Moderate Zone and Crowd Control
Cons
  • Low Defense
  • Needs Abilities for Anything
  • Can't Box

Abilities

An amazing passive, especially in the Early Game. Whenever Thor gets close to an enemy god he gains physical power for each enemy up to a limit. This passive alone makes Thor a good Early Game god as his damage output makes him a serious threat once he gets close to his target.
Thor's signature ability. Thor throws Mjolnir, traveling in a straight line, and once hitting the max distance will start to come back like a boomerang. This has the power to double-tap, which is when your opponent gets hit by Mjolnir and gets hit again on the return it does double damage so try to make sure your opponent gets hit by the come around. But wait, there's more. At any point during Mjolnir's flight path, you can hit the ability button again and you will teleport to the last place Mjolnir was during the throw. This makes for a great initiate or an escape when it looks like your death is coming.
This ability is pretty straight forward but can be such a game-changer. Thor smashes the ground and created a straight line of raised earth, acting as a player-generated wall, blocking the path and if an enemy was close to the placing of the wall it stuns them for a duration. This ability can be used for some great combos or used to assist your team in securing a kill.
You spin, you deal damage, and you become immune to knock-ups while you're using this ability. Since this ability hits three times, with the final swing dealing extra damage, it is best to hit every single swing as much as possible (especially the last hit).
Thor's second signature ability. After a quick wind-up, Thor takes to the sky. Once up in the air, you are given an indicator of where you can drop. Any enemy god caught in the radius of your drop is stunned and take damage, but there's a kicker. After coming back down to the ground, Mjolnir gains a special effect that lasts for a short duration. When you hit an enemy god, lightning will dish damage to the first god hit and will arc to two additional enemies dealing half of the lightning's damage.

Items to Consider

Thor's playstyle is centered around getting in, getting a kill, and getting out. Building around damage and cooldown reduction, Thor wants his abilities at the ready and be able to take them out in one go. If you want to, Thor can build a few protection items since he will more than likely be in the middle of the enemy team and will get focused down because of it. Here is a selection of items that can synergize with Thor that could be a nice addition to your build.

Power, Cooldown Reduction, and MpS is a nice addition to Thor's build. Also, add in the additional power you get from building stacks on this item works wonders early on.
One of the better defense items for Jungler's, especially for how Thor plays, getting caught in the middle of the enemy and bursting becomes easier due to the reduced protections from this item.

Tips, Tricks, and Combos

  • Conduits
Hitting enemies with the wrath of an angry god are Thor's thing, his large power spike early on as well as getting items to help make the output even higher should make Thor a serious presence during the game.
  • Striking Distance
Make use of Thor's high mobility and long-range from his 1 and his ultimate to cover more ground and get to the best spot for a gank or a teamfight.
  • Grounded
Thor lacks basic attack prowess. No hit chain, coupled with slow attack speed, leaves him fairly vulnerable when it comes to boxing. Being unable to burst down a target or not being able to get away is a death sentence for Thor.

Combo 1
A standard engagement combo. Throw out Mjolnir to hit the target and try to get the double-tap (if not no worries). After that, if Mjolnir is still close to the enemy, teleport and hit them with Berserker Barrage to keep the damage coming.
Combo 2
Best used for ganking, and if the enemy lane doesn't see you coming. By blocking their path, and hopefully getting the stun off of Tectonic Rift as well, you can use Mjolnir's Attunement to get poke damage with the initial and the double-tap.
Ultimate Combo
Once you hit level 5 and your Ultimate is at the ready, this combo will be your go-to for most ganks and teamfights with more than one person.

Summary

In conclusion, Thor is an assassin with bruiser qualities, has a ton of burst power, and has a might map presence with his lightning-fast speed around the map. Remember to zip around the map with your high mobility, get the drop on the opponent, and put them out of commission, and useing the powers of thunder and lightning to vanquish your foes for the Glory of Asgard.

Shifter's Shield is good for being a bruiser in my opinion, as it gives both defenses and power. This shouldnt be your only defense item though. If you plan to get another defense item I think it's worth it, like Hide of the Urchin.

Alright. Someone using Shifter's Shield I feel like that item is very strong, but people i play with don't recommend it. I thought the Bulwark was only one second. I should relook the item descriptions

Good guide, but list that SotU reflects 40% of all damage, while Hide of the Nemean Lion reflects 20% basic attack damage.

No, I said that it works similarity to Nemean Lion not the exact same. I make item, actives, or skills in this simple format as Hi Rez might change the numbers and I don't want to go though all the haste of change every number of skills, items, or actives every patch notes. It's lazy yes, but I see it as a way to make me prepared for the future, Unless they completely revamp the things I just listed.

To be honest, I'n not that big of a Jungler so I have no jungle route to speak of. But I'm sure this will help.

Executioner isn't very good on thor, just because the attack speed is useless and the penetration after every basic is useless just because you should be using basics to confirm kills instead of reducing protections and then using your abilities.
