[October 13th 2014: The guide has had a small update, most information is relevent still with the current meta outside of a couple of changes. Sorry for the long awaited update I had just been very busy with work.
Anyhow the changes that I have made is explanations on leveling skills in different orders amongst other less noticeable changes.

Introduction

Hello all I'm here to talk to you about the hardcore, baddass, booty getting, pirate God Tyr. It's been roughly 2 MONTHS! yikes....since I've updated this guide. Now I would love for you to believe it was because I foresaw the major changes that occurred over the past 2 months but the honest truth is I lucked out hardcore.

Anyhow I feel that it's time to overhaul my build, go the traditional route of being an ability God build, show you why Tyr is still a viable competitive pick, and lastly explain to you what has changed so much for the big man.

First thing that comes to mind is The Great Warrior Purge of 2014, this was like the great depression of the heavens. We saw many high tier warrior picks nerfed into oblivion to the point where you often heard " Odin who?". Let's be honest though this nerf was targeted more towards those silly SWKs and Odins that wanted to support and still do massive damage, this made the game not fun period. This patch had the silver lining of making the game fun for us warrior players AND the other players. How so you ask? Well we saw people play less warriors solo lane which meant that when you did come against a mage in solo lane as a warrior you had a favorable and fun lane as long as you could juke, this is a win/win for everyone!

Well then, fast forward a week or so and Mages and Assassins are playing solo lane more and more. It's been fun but getting tougher dealing with those damn mages. Then Rama patch hits and we get an awesome new item to keep up in the solo lane against those mages. Ancile was our god send, this item is something that seems so strong for such a cheap price.

Pros / Cons

PROS
Best Passive in the game
High Burst Damage Output
Very Tanky
High Mobility
Tough to Escape from

CONS
Low Attack Speed usually regulates him
towards being an ability God.

Easily deny yourself escape with your combo.

Requires very specific positioning for proper ability usage

Now as I have said with his Pros this guy has an insane amount of burst damage. If you manage to land your Fearless in Assault Stance every single time in your combo I can almost promise you that it will chunk nearly half of anyone's health that isn't a tank. That's even missing a Cleave if that's possible. The thing that makes him so scary is the fact that he is so insanely tanky on top of that amazing passive.

The thing you have to remember about Tyr is the fact that he can be denied escapes very easily if you blow all your abilities on an all in kill. This is the main reason we buy Greater Blink, we need to always have a way out when we go in for the kill. We may be very tanky but the fact is you're not gonna be able to take a barrage of 3 Gods all at once....or atleast for very long. The most important con about this god though is the fact that Positioning is key at all times, Tyr is not an EZ-MODE god by any means but when you can recognize positioning and when it's ok to setup for the kill those killstreaks will roll on in.

Skills

UNYIELDING

Stuns, Taunts, Fears, and Mesmerize cannot affect Tyr for longer than 1s.
MY THOUGHTS

Tyr changes between Assault and Guard stances. Changing stances refreshes the cooldown on Fearless and Power Cleave.
Assault Stance: Gain Physical Power.
Guard Stance: Gain Protections.
MY THOUGHTS

MY THOUGHTS

Items

MAIN ITEMS

Warrior Tabi: These are standard boots in my opinion on most Physical Gods. With the recent addition of Ancile there should never be reason to take Ninja Tabi over these boots. With my normal Build I can achieve a 41 Penetration rank with these boots, stacked with Titan's Bane this is an incredible amount of damage output even at just 200 Physical Power total.

Ancile: This item right here is going to be a staple item on almost every warrior from here on out. It Provides 50 Magical Protections, 20 base Physical Power, and a stacking passive (30 Physical power 15% Cool Down Reduction). This item provides 3 amazing stats in one item and really lets you branch out to other options in your build, if you're not building this as a warrior you should probably not be playing a warrior.

Void Shield: I feel like this item is now a staple in most any warrior build. With the passive you're ramping up your damage pretty nicely while still getting yourself those much wanted protections to be the bruiser you are. You could opt for getting a Witchblade here instead, but I will go into more detail about that item shortly.

Jotunn's Wrath: This item is core on every single Tyr period, the stats are more than enough to say why. But lets break it down anyhow, The passive alone is the most important part. It gives 25% CDR , combined with Ancile you're looking at your ability cooldowns cut nearly in half. The penetration is also a huge boon for the damage you're going to be putting out.

SITUATIONAL FINAL ITEMS
I will only be listing a couple of items here that I feel are relevant in the situations you may encounter on Tyr

Shifter's Shield:This item is also a pretty core item on most Tyr builds. I almost always use this in my build because of the amazing stats it gives. Above 50% health it gives you 60 Physical Power stacked with your Change Stance Is just sweet sweet love. Vice versa under 50% health is to awesome just to make sure you get that extra protection to slip away after murdering someone.

Runic Shield:This is probably one of your best bets for some aggressive Magical Protection after Ancile. It gives you a bit of Power so you still get a positive damage upgrade from it. Plus the passive is great in helping you survive a Barrage of Magic burst. It's pretty much 90 Magical Protection on a 20 second CD. I would only grab this if you're facing a Mage Heavy team that doesn't have much sustain if you really need it.

Pestilence:Now personally I'm not the biggest fan of this item at all, but I do list it for a very specific reason. The only reason ever to use this item is if you're up against any heavy healing God. I really think that's the only reason to ever get this item but I feel it is warranted in this guide.

Witchblade:This item is a viable pick by all means to handle those assassins and Hunters alike. With the passive you're going to upgrade your survival, and your teams, by a noticeable margin in team fights. If you do happen to pick this up for some reason abuse the move speed on it as well, you're going to be zooming all over the map and secure important objectives that much more easily.

Transcendence:While I do agree this item might not have a place in Tyrs kit, I can't argue with the fact that it will help with mana problems and give you a hefty amount of power. The passive alone with the base damage of this item gives you nearly 100 Physical power, this is certainly nothing to sneeze at for a god that already has a huge amount of burst damage. I would only grab this item in place of something else if you are confident in your ability to juke and out play your opponents.

Mystical Mail:This is usually the first item you see built on most Tyrs but that's for a very specific reason Minion Wave Clear. I would advise on getting this only if you're in the solo lane and going against a hyper aggressive Warrior/Assassin to help keep you up and get your minion kills.

Titan's Bane:This item right here is usually your 5th or 6th item just to punch through tank/bruiser defenses. It's going to be largely useless against your squishier targets but that's where our 40 Penetration will still be performing well for us.

ACTIVES

Now I'm not gonna sit here and roll down every active and tell you why or why you shouldn't get specific Active. Personally I believe that will always come down to player choice and preference. I know plenty of people who take Meditate even while other players berate them and still stand by their decision and still performs well with it. But this being said there is only 1 Active out of all of them that you should ALWAYS HAVE!

Greater Blink: This is the bread and butter initiate of your dreams. It has a very short CD, gives a move speed buff for a couple seconds and it frees up your Guard Stance Fearless to be used as a Kill Secure or escape. There is no reason any Tyr should not have this ability ever.

Wrath of the Gods: This item is something that you should try to get when you can unless you really really need beads. It has a dual purpose for Tyr, it's objective securing/stealing and it helps with your lane clear. You could also opt for Fist of the Gods if you're in arena or there is 1-2 other HoGs on the team. The stun that it provides can be the difference between securing a kill or even escaping from an unfavorable ambush.

Early game playstyle.

You're early game is pretty spot on whether you're laning, jungling, or hanging in arena. Just make sure you are aware of your surroundings at all times, don't ward your lane entrances until level 3 since that is about the time you'll see Ganks start taking place on your lane.

Sit back and play passively, you have zero zoning ability this early in the game, try and Last hit where you can. NEVER GO FOR THE KILL BEFORE LEVEL 4! Only ever go after the kill prior to level 4 if you know you can secure it, for example, being pushed down hard and can blink behind to push into your tower, but chances are this will not be a problem that arises. Don't be afraid to ask your Jungle for Red/orange buff if they don't need it or invading enemy jungle for their buff.

Make sure that your second or third item you build is a Protection item to counter your lane. After boots, Ancile is a good choice if you're facing mage in you're lane instead of Jotunn's Wrath since it provides that needed CDR.

Jungle start Explanation

This section is going to explain the reason behind using the efficient jungle start option. Most new players are going to look at this item start and be confused possibly, so lets see if we can get you the new player up to speed that could be reading this.

The items are pretty self explanatory as to what you should do with them but just in case let's explain the proper usage of them. First you're going to be saving your Potion of Physical Might till after you and your solo laner have obtained your buffs.

Second you're gonna pray and hope for a cooperative team, and meet your Mid laner and Solo laner at mid harpies on solo lane side or try to invade and take their mid harpies instead. The reason for this is because it gives your team and xp lead and gold lead, even more so yourself with Bumba's Mask. This is such an awesome start for you that you'll nearly have dinged level 2 already.

From here you and your solo laner will be rolling over to Orange or Red buff for yourself, You should use your Hand of the Gods here so it is up again for your next buff. After obtaining your buff you and your solo laner will be picking up Blue buff for him. Now you're going to be at halfway level 2 by this point. The problem is you're not ready to start roaming yet so you're going to be staying in solo lane to sponge some XP till you are atleast level 3.

Now the job of the Jungler has begun You're going to always be roaming at all times, if a gank is called gank for them. However if they are calling for a gank on Left lane when your on right lane don't kill yourself to rush there or screw another team mate over. The tough part is as a jungler you are going to have to make tough decisions on which lanes to gank at what times, but just stay calm and it gets easier. The second part of this is that early game you need to be rotating to Mid harpies as much as possible for the gold/xp gain, but try not to do them without your mid laner present.

Team Work

Teamfights can be very iffy for anyone really. The thing you have to remember is that you may be tanky, but you are not a tank. Always let your tank Lead off with the initiate.

Your first job in Team Fights is to keep an eye out to protect your squishy carries and mages, they are going to be what win the team fights for you. Protect them at all costs, you are still tanky enough to tank 1 or 2 carries trying to focus your Apollo.

You're second job in Team Fights is going to be purely Controlling 1 of the carries and keeping them displaced and out of the fight as much as possible. With Tyrs kit this should not be a problem keeping them lockdowned and murdering them while everyone else focuses on the other Squishies.

Always keep your eyes open for specific Ultimates to combo off of. The 2 best Tank Ultis to watch for is Hades and Ares, as soon as they suck everyone in close enough Fearless them all to death and let your team mop up anyone if they even survived. HOWEVER! Never Fearless out off their Ultis unless you have spoken with your team. Nothing is more annoying or aggravating than Going to use your Ulti as Ra or Scylla just to suddenly realize you wasted it because of an over zealous Tyr.

Summary

CLOSING REMARKS

Thank you for taking the time to read my first guide ever on my favorite God in SMITE. I really appreciate any and all advice that you guys may have on the guide. I do realize this is not a conventional or orthodox build for Tyr, but that's the beauty of SMITE, you can play however you want to a certain degree and still be a great player. As I have said this guide is not aimed towards ranked play so please keep that in mind as you comment and downvote.

It's nice to see someone actually editing their guide after taking criticism :D
I would also add the situational items to the real build, not the text only (if you get what I mean :P)

Game hard, my friend. Tyr was one of my former mains (RIP WARRIORS) so it's refreshing to see a decent guide.

On a final note, I'd consider Hide of the Urchin a very solid item. Mixed protections, health, and scales through the game. Very decent against mixed teams. Otherwise I don't have much to offer, it definitely serves its purpose and it's aesthetically pleasing. GJ!

Thank you for the compliments. While the original guide included Hide of the Urchin with the release of Ancile now, we can forgo Urchins to abuse Ancile with Void Shield. While it is not in the guide I would probably only use Hide if I planned on building Transcendence instead.

Wow, I am really sorry. I should have read over that before posting >.> For some reason in my head it didn't sound anywhere near as rude as it does when read lol. I need some sleep to many hours of playing Smite today.

The guide name is one of Tyrs Jokes in his Pirate skin, I am sorry that you feel like this has no relation to the god in any way but it does.

Your second concern is warranted but incorrect and pretty self explanatory if you had read the guide. First Warded Shield is the second tier component to Ancile, Smitefire does not have Ancile as an item in their item database yet that I can use for linking. Second, in the item descriptions area not only is Ancile listed as a core item I point out the stats that the item gives to show that the build does have Magical Protection in it. Thank you for the input and advice.

Agreed, I will probably put that into the guide soon(within the week?). The reason why it was originally not included was due to the guide being written for very casual players that are probably not as good and able to get the most out of the buff.
