Introduction

The Only Medusa Guide that matters

Medusa jungle to this date is my go to Jungler that is not your typical Jungle God. Since the changes to Medusa's Acid Spray and Lacerate Medusa got more traction within Smite. Now before these changes Medusa was already strong so these changes ended up being more of a quality of life change for her. I have been asking for Lacerate to hit Minions for quite a while mainly for ADC as it gives her so much pressure but after her changes came along I decided to run her in jungle to see what kind of results I would get. I was pretty surprised at how oppressive and strong she actually functioned in Jungle. Especially in a bruiser meta where more DPS from hunters is always welcome.

Why Would I pick Medusa Jungle?

When thinking about junglers what goes through your head?

What makes a good jungler?
Strong Ganks - With the use of blink Medusa has a lot of gap closing and cc to enable your team to followup or to close the gap of escaping enemies.
Burst damage - All Junglers need to be able to kill the enemy players and Medusa does that well. Hitting Viper Shot atleast twice usually guarantees a kill with your other abilities but hitting all 4 shots can alone almost if not kill an enemy god 100-0.
Mobility- While Lacerate is blockable the ability itself is fast and covers good distance to close gaps or escape.
Lockdown - Medusa has two forms of cc in her kit. Lacerate and Petrify. A lot of the time Medusa can engage fights with Petrify as it will slow the enemies and allow her to set up her Viper Shot into Acid Spray and then follow up with Lacerate if you can kill them before they escape. Generally blinking on to the enemy and using Lacerate (when safe to do so) will force enemy movement. You can then use Petrify Which will reach every dash that matters.

When should you not pick Medusa Jungle

In my honest opinion I think Medusa is probably one of the best Gods in the game. I think that her jungle potential is so high that she can be picked first most games. As a personal choice I will Ban Gilgamesh every game as this God is the main problem I face when playing Medusa in the jungle. Another time I think Medusa is a bad jungle pick is when the amount of CC on the team is low. Medusa prefers cc because anyone hit with Viper Shot Will die so more lockdown on the team the better.

Medusa is just better

Gods Similar to Medusa except Medusa does it better

Tsukuyomi and Medusa are literally the same God but rekitted to different classes. Dark Moon Shuriken and Viper Shot are ranged projectiles which do large amounts of damage. While Medusa needs to hit multiple she has range autos meaning overall there is more damage.

Silver Moon Caltrops is a weaker version of Acid Spray. While Silver Moon Caltrops has a slow Medusa makes up for that with the slow on Petrify

Kusarigama pretty straight forward. This and Lacerate both CC the enemy to setup the rest of the Gods abilities. Medusa does this better as hers can also act as movement and disengage while Tsukuyomi has no real mobility.

Camazotz and Medusa both have two main damaging abilities which are required to hit to 100% guarantee kills most of the time. Screech and Vampire Bats both are required to hit to get most damage potential in a singular Camazotz combo. While Medusa is similar she has her own personal setup being Lacerate which Camazotz does not have. He must hit two skill shot abilities wheras Medusa is easier to confirm due to her root.

Bat Out of Hell Similarly to alot of ults. Ultimates provide cc immunity. Now while Camazotz has the better skill for that in comparison to Petrify The burst potential is in Medusa's favour without possibly putting herself out of position. So in terms of burst I feel Medusa is just a stronger Camazotz style God.

Piercing Moonlight While this ability does almost around twice the damage as Petrify it can only be used as cc immunity or an engage. Petrify on the other had has ranged damage and burst without fully committing to a fight and can also cc and slow down people engaging on Medusa therefore in my opinion making it stronger.

Gods that share the same kit pattern

The Formula being - Two main damaging skills - Some form of mobility skill and an ultimate providing setup or cc immunity. Medusa does very similar jobs to all of these Gods but has the up side of ranged auto attacks.

Playstyle

Early Game

Currently in patch 9.3 Level 1-2 is one of Medusas's Game winning levels. having ranged autos allows her to clear the minions wave one after getting both speed and red buff and trying to get level 2 before the enemy. Due to ranged autos she can do this maybe a second faster than the enemy jungle and then use Lacerate on the other jungler who is trying to clear the minions and hopefully get some followup from the midlaner to kill them eventually snowballing in to an early game win.

Level 3

At this stage in the game you should have all three abilities on Medusa and if you are going to get a kill now is the time to do it. Assuming you started Blink Rune you should be looking to blink on to anybody away from the tower. Activate Viper Shot > Blinking > Viper Shot > Lacerate > Acid Spray > Viper Shot anybody who does not have their movement skill available will die to this.

If the enemy has movement it is best to hold Lacerate. Start by activating Viper Shot . blinking > Viper Shot > Acid Spray (through minions if you can) Follow the enemy movement with Lacerate and finish off the rest of the Viper Shot Hits. This will guarantee you a kill at level 3.

Mid Game

Like other Junglers. Medusa also needs farm. She should be farming as much as she can to get as many items online as fast as possible. As she is a hunter levels and gold matter way more than a junglers would in this situation so she should focus on farm and almost confirmed free ganks. Any lane that is pushed up medusa should be attempting to make plays on. Blink Rune into Petrify is the perfect way to engage into lanes quickly especially when you aren't rotating in high. If you are able to find a path that is unwarded it is always best to flank behind enemies as you can save the majority of your abilities for when they react. Walking behind an enemy and auto attacking with or without Viper Shot generally is the easiest way to start an engagement. The enemy will only have so many options and normally this would be run to tower. At this point they will have dashed or jumped towards their tower and hopefully there is a wave coming. Medusa enjoys waves as she can spit Acid Spray into it to confirm hits to then follow up with Lacerate and Viper Shot. Starting engagements with Viper Shot can ruin some ganks as it will make a loud noise notifying them of your pressence so make sure you already have it active or wait until the engagement has started/they are rooted with Lacerate.

Late Game

Lategame Medusa functions similarly to Hunbatz. Alot of zoning and teamfight ults. But the playstyle is down to how you want to play.

CC comp

If your team has high CC Medusa should be playing around that. Double hunter and mage damage will delete any player that is stunned so it is best to play in more of a team ball.

You are the engage

In the situation where you need to be making plays along with the solo laner you need to position differently. More like a traditional Jungler. Be off in lanes pushing waves when you are comfortable you can take any 1v1 and playing aggressive looking for ganks around unwarded areas. using Petrify from the enemy backline will make the enemy turn towards your team or allow your team to push forward. While this is a dangerous style you need to be aware of where the enemies are, where your team is and how you can get back to safety after engaging with a flank.

Just ult bro

As the title says. Just walk up with your team and use Petrify. This generally will do some serious damage or make the enemy disengage. This allows your team to play up or get kills with ganks from your solo laner and mage followup.

Loki style

a lategame hunter can safely push waves and take most 1v1s. What she should be looking for are early picks before fire giants. Take notes of where enemies would be. Red buff, goldfury, back camps. Play aggressive. At this stage in the game an auto attack cancel in to Lacerate > Viper Shot > Acid Spray will kill any squishy. even before the whole combo. Crit Medusa will kill within 2-3 critical hits. Don't be afraid to take your Red buff for these risky plays.

Build Explanations

ADC Jungler Crit Variant

before I explain anything. This by far is the most consistent build. It works in most situations and has the best early game to lategame spike. There is a reason this is one of the go to ADC builds right now.

This is the outright best jungle starter item for Medusa. Manikin Scepter is useable but the mana sustain from Eye Of The Jungle is too good to give up. combine this with the late game stats from Protector Of The Jungle attack speed working with Silverbranch Bow with Viper Shot The attack speed to power conversion is huge.

The first staple item of the build. Medusa can apply the The Crusher passive four times in each combo and that definitely plays a part in Medusa's high burst. This item first is generally better than other options such as Transcendence due to power spike and the penetration The Crusher provides.

Asi is mainly used to help out trade. It can help a lot against other junglers as they will not have lifesteal in their builds. Atleast not at this stage. The flat pen on the item stacked with The Crusher and the combined attack speed of your first 3 items and your Viper Shot Really makes Medusa a Menace to deal with at this stage in the game.

Wind Demon
Wind demon has proved to be the strongest singular crit item for seasons on seasons. Having pen attack speed and it also gets crit rolling is the reason we buy the item at this stage. It is a slow item on it's own but after the cheaper spiking items it is a powerful transition.

The second core item of the build. This item is one of the best items you could buy on Medusa. I think even if the item gets nerfed and loses some penetration Medusa will still run this item. Viper Shot boosts attack speed by 80% giving massive value to Silverbranch Bow. The passive and while having penetration on the item it makes it perfect for this stage of the game. 30% Physical penetration and 30% flat penetration is allowing Medusa to hit incredibly hard.

Final Item being Envenomed Deathbringer. The reason for this glyph is that this style of medusa is about our trading. The passive assists in doing so making it the smartest upgrade for this variation of build. Deathbringer is also also core in any build that has crit being built in my opinion.

QIN'S SAIS VARIANT

For this version of the build you are replacing Wind demon with Qin's Saisand Envenomed Deathbringer with The Executioner. This build overall will be less DPS to squishies than the crit variation but generally this is the better build path when there is a lot of frontline and you are expecting Spectral Armor Which generally there will be especially when there are two hunters running crit.

The reason for Qin's Sais in this slot is because at this point in the game the majority of defences will be health. You have flat pen to help you out early in the build and now you will have Qin's Sais to melt Gods who buy items like
Sovereignty, Gauntlet of Thebes and Runeforged Hammer.

While this item may not be on everyone's list of items to buy right now. The reason you are running the Qin's Sais variant is because frontline and tanky Gods are causing problems. The Executioner Will not only help you but also will help the other hunter on your team and your jungler and sometime even your solo laner so as a last item it is not a bad pickup. It also has synergy with Silverbranch Bow

Burst Crit Build

while the Burst Crit Build does not differ too much the lategame version of the build has new items and also a different version of Deathbringer This time we are going for Malicious Deathbringer

The reason we are going for Malicious Deathbringer is because we are planning on getting atleast one other crit item in this build and maybe a second if we get late enough. Malicious Deathbringer reduces the cooldown of skills when you crit so you want as much chance as you possibly can. Understanding this will help see why the next two items are alternatives for lategame.

This item is nothing to laugh at. 40 power 20% crit chance and 20% attack speed works really well at this stage in the game where flat pen does not have as much of an effect. Crit in general will do more to squishy targets at this stage so critting more will help. The passive of Shadowsteel Shuriken also synergises with Acid Spray as you now have 90% antiheal. you have 70% crit at this stage so you have a good chance to get those crits in applying antiheal and reducing the cooldowns of your abilities with Malicious Deathbringer.

Finally Fail-Not. Probably one of the most underbought items in my opinion but it is a bit of an awkward one to build. The item provides decent power, penetration, crit chance and cooldown. Ulting an enemy god will give you 100% crit chance in this build allowing you to quite freely dash in and get that cooldown back. Not only that the Cooldown on the item itself is pretty good for Medusa as she plays a lot around Petrify and Viper Shot

Conclusion

Thankyou for reading my guide. I am definitely open to feedback and am not the best with formatting to make the guide look as nice as it could. Hopefully it is readable and not too boring but I thought If I am going to do a guide on a God I am deeming as OP when many do not I thought I would talk about specifics. Any questions feel free to comment or @/dm me on discord. I am in the official smite discord https://discord.gg/smitegame my discord name is Ele#6193 and I am also a senior mod over there. I hope this guide helped!
