Introduction

Hello, I'm YOLOcaust66, been playing Smite for about half a year and for quite a time I had few guides in my head (all based on experience), which I'd like to share with you. Smite is the first MOBA I play longer than for a few days, due to the aimed skillshots and 3rd person which is more of my thing than the view from above. This is my first guide and I really appreciate constructive criticism or structure help offers (e.g how to get item incons into text -_-).

This is my guide for Tyr, offering multiple builds for different playstyles and gamemodes.

Pros / Cons

PROS:

    1. Offers various playstyle options
    2. High Mobility - dashes. dashes everywhere.
    3. Powerful as solo, even better as a teamplayer
    4. Can easily disrupt teams and put opponents out of position
    5. One of the better junglers
    6. Useful passive
    7. Stance switching + additional passive benefits
    8. aaaand dashes
    9. Each skill (except 1) lowers its CD when ranked up
    10. Great solo lane.
    11. and dashes.

CONS:

    1. Almost 0 waveclear in the beginning
    2. Ulti a bit too slow
    3. Absolutelyultraover9000doomed by cripples as whirlpool

Skills

For skills, I would like to skip the basic description, it's ingame, online and in trillion other guides, so I'll cover only the important facts and values.

Passive: UNYIELDING


Stuns, Taunts, Fears, and Mesmerize bother you for the max. of 1 sec. Great passive, offering great counteroptions against gods that strongly rely on their CC.

1. FEARLESS


DEM DASHES. 2 different functions according to the stance you are in:

Agressive: pushes the targets with you, knocking them up twice (ideal to follow up with a Cleave for 3rd knockup). Great for initiation, disruption, countering and providing free kills.
Defensive: Dashes through enemies, knocking them up and passing through. Great for escapes and chasedowns, mediocre in disruptions and countering.
MAX OUT LAST.

Damage: 40 / 90 / 140 / 190 / 240 (+50% of your physical power) Cost: 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80 Cooldown: 15s

2. POWER CLEAVE


TYR's main source of damage, which provides different effects according to the current stance, increases damage and healing and reduces CD on every upgrade.

Agressive: Great damage + knocks up any mid-air (=knocked up, whether by you or someone else).
Defensive: Damage + heals for every target hit (up to 3), resulting in great sustain possibilities.
MAX IT OUT FIRST. ALWAYS.

Damage: 70 / 120 / 170 / 220 / 270 (+50% of your physical power)
Healing: 45 / 65 / 85 / 105 / 125 (50% of your physical power)
Cost: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70
Cooldown: 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8s

3. CHANGE STANCE


This is what makes TYR great, after you change stance, your 1 and 2 cooldowns reset + it gives additional bonuses to those abilities, passive stats and reduces its CD when upgraded.
MAX IT OUT SECOND.

Ability: Stance Change Affects: Self Assault Stance: 10 / 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 Physical Power Defense Stance: 8 / 16 / 24 / 32 / 40 Protections Cooldown: 15 / 14 / 13 / 12 / 11s

4. LAWBRINGER


A tad slow, but still a great ability with massive area, damage and slow -> great for initiation, chasedowns or escapes + you spend time in air, where you don't get hit by most abilities (although zeus' ult will hit you). Reduces CD when upgraded.
MAX OUT THIRD.

Damage: 150 / 225 / 300 / 375 / 450 (120% of your physical power) Slow: 25% Slow Duration: 3s Cost: 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 / 120 Cooldown: 90 / 85 / 80 / 75 / 70

Items

ARENA



Blink is great to purchase with rank 3 (or at least rank 2) right in the beginning to give your team an easy first blood, or even multiple kills.

Movement, CD reduction, attack speed and physical power = more dashes, more cleaves, more kills.

arena matches are usually mage-heavy, it is therefore a great choice, so that you don't die after you blink-dash a potential kill.

dat triple P (Power, Protection, Penetration) = a must for Tyr. Offers you more dmg and more survivability against physical opponents, so it's generally a win-win item.

this is what will hurt your opponents. More CD reduction and a sweet passive to add a little burst after you dash an enemy towards your team.

since in arena, there are kills everywhere, the stacks will be up very fast, making you near invincible, allowing you to wreak havoc in enemy lines for longer.

last but not least, more power and % penetration (worse early game, better lategame, when compared to flat pene), giving you a nice dmg addition.

absolutely amazing in arena, making your blink-dashes almost surekills for your team every 60sec.


JUNGLE



because jungle, that's why.

rank 1, because jungle, that's why (you need that clear desperately).

risky, but if you do your job well, very valuable. Movement speed, power and even MOAR power via stacks.

MOAR movement, CD reduction, power, attack speed. MUSTHAVE.

Focused Voidblade You might be ganking magical lanes, where the normal Voidblade would be near useless, therefore Focused.

This will change you into a damage cannon, since you are really CD heavy.

MOAR penetration + power = EVEN MOAR DMG.

so that noone escapes you or your team. Never. Ever. Ever 2.

SOLO



minor protections, 100hp and dmg reduction from both minions and players. A MUST.

you desperately need it for solo, because in the beginning you have very weak waveclear and you would OOM very fast without it. Either way, you would be severely outpushed.

"free" wards. wards everywhere. for the whole game. can save you from many ganks = no fed opponent, no fed jungler, more farm for you, less farm for them, your tower will not get pushed. win-win-win-win-win situation.

always. Reasons above.

power, pene, CD reduction (capped with Ninja Tabi) and some extra mana. Dream.

% pene and power. Purchase lategame and watch the miracles.

Further items are decided according to your opponent. Heavy physical lane (Ankh of the Bear and Focused Voidblade) and heavy magical lane ( Runic Shield and Bulwark of Hope)


DUO



You are going to be paired with someone who is supposed to deal more dmg than you. You take dmg and provide kills. Therefore Mark of the Vanguard, Ninja Tabi, Voidblade/Focused Voidblade (depending on your lane partner) and Titan's Bane are CORE. For more damage , get Hydra's Lament, and for more tankiness Runic Shield or Mystical Mark.

DEM MOVES

ARENA



Your role is generally to blink behind an enemy/ies (because dashing only one enemy is too mainstream #hisptertyr #dashes #moredashes #freekills), AGRESSIVE Fearless followed by Power Cleave towards your team. If by that time the target was not killed by your team, or the rest of the opponents joined the fight, feel free to Change Stance and disrupt/chase them with a second dash-cleave combo or simply jump on them with your Lawbringer. Don't forget to use Creeping Curse a lot too.


SOLO


At first I though Tyr was not a good sololaner. During the last days I've tried him many times on solo and every single time it was a success. I've outpushed Chronos, Hel, Sun Wukong, Guan Yu etc. Best strategy is to stay in defensive stance, you gain extra protections, your cleave heals and you can dash behind your enemy -> Change Stance -> Fearless -> Power Cleave into your minions or tower = great pokes / free kills.


DUO


Your role is to take damage and provide kills, as it was briefly mentioned in the ITEMS section. Again, same tactics as in solo lane. Defensive stance for protections and Power Cleave heals and for dash behind your enemy -> Change Stance to Agressive -> Fearless -> Power Cleave combo for providing kills.

JUNGLE


Just make sure you come from behind for free-kill providing dashes. Agressive Fearless -> Power Cleave combo ftw.

Epilogue

I don't know a lot about Tyr but I think solo lane is doable with him. You get behind the archers, push them into the rest of the minions and finish them of with your other ability or hog. Had a tyr use this against me in solo lane and couldn't do a lot. I was Bacchus though, it might not work when you're up against someone ranged
