Introduction

Hello, this is my first Smite guide so pardon any flaws or glaring mistakes that are to be encountered. So with that if anyone gives me a downvote, I would appreciate a comment as to why so I can improve this guide and learn from mistakes. I am open to criticism and feedback no matter if it's positive or negative, so comment away what you think.

Pros / Cons

Pros

1.Magical damage extraordinaire
2.The annoying yet effective noob combo=2-3-4
3.Great minion clear with his 3
4.Excels in 1v1 if Anubis gets the 1st hit
5.Can 1v1 enemy titans

Cons

1.Like all mages, he is extremely squishy.
2.If you miss with his abilities, you are most certainly dead
3.No escapes whatsoever, need to rely on an actives for escape.
4.Half of his abilities when cast keep you immobile Plague of Locusts Death Gaze

Items

Shoes of Focus=This is to begin CDR

Book of Thoth=Build this 2nd to begin building stacks from early on and it gives +100 magical power.

Bancroft's Talon=Third due to it giving you +100 magical power and it's passive makes you deal more damage the lower your health is. For Anubis this can make him OP on top the lifesteal this item provides.

Chronos' Pendant=The final item for CDR and it gives you a nice chunk of magical power of +75

Soul Reaver=Gives you another +100 magical power and it's passive is pretty decent.

Gem of Isolation=This item gives you +70 magical power and it's passive slows enemies for 2 secs when hit by your abilities. So using this in combination with Grasping Hands that already slows enemies down by itself, now adding this item on top of it will slow them even further.

Rod of Tahuti=A must have for every mage especially Anubis. You gain +125 magical power making your magical power over 700 by the time the build is complete.

Actives
Greater Sprint=Due to Anubis having no escapes, he needs to be reliant on this active to escape.

Greater Purification=This will help with crowd control if you ever get caught by gods who have these abilities such as Ares.

Escape management

This is a special section on being able to manage escaping or running away from gods even though Anubis has no such escape. This is a NOT a surefire way to escape so if this doesn't work at times, don't blame me lol. This section is meant for being able to INCREASE the chances to escape while having no ability to do so. There a several methods you can use to try and escape. I will provide a list of methods to try

1.Turn around and Mummify your predator to stun him and keep running away. This will keep your pursuer delayed slightly, but makes you vulnerable to ganks.

2.The easiest most simple and effective method is to use the Greater Sprint to escape(if available)

3.The more complicated method of the list. Head into the jungle and find the most narrow pathways in the jungle like the mid xp camps and use your Grasping Hands and place it right under your feet. If chosen pathway is narrow enough, the ability should be large enough to cover the lane completely behind you and deter any pursuers.

Skills

=This is the passive Anubis possesses. It is quite and interesting passive that when Anubis uses his abilities, they all steal physical AND magical protection from the target, which is a major factor in Anubis being OP. So another way this could come in handy is that since this passive reduces both forms of protection, you can use them in a teamfight and help your team by lowering their protections with this passive. It gives him increased scaling to his item based magical lifesteal, which is where Bancroft's Talon comes in. Lastly it gives him a 33% reduction in crowd control duration. So if you think about it, if used correctly and tactically, this passive can do some wonders here and there.

= This ability does pretty decent damage, but the one giant flaw is that your are as still as a statue when using it. Due to that alone, I level this ability last. You will come to notice that the longer you play as Anubis the less you will use it due to the vulnerability. Only use it to clear minion waves if you are alone or if someone is trapped by your Mummify

=This is your most useful ability in terms of tactics. You can use this for a variety of reasons. You can stun someone with it and hit them with Death Gaze, if being chased turn around and pop them with it for a slight delay on their chase. Lastly you can use it to help a teammate in trouble to trap their enemy giving them time to retreat.

=This is your most useful ability other than Death Gaze This ability is sexy against minions clearing them out like nothing. It does pretty good damage against gods and it slows them down if hit by it. Great move for poking intentions as well. Max out this ability 1st.

= This is your sexy ult that decimates any fool caught within the gaze. This ability does a massive amount of damage and if combined with Mummify, you will have a high chance of securing a kill. For the wondrous amount of damage this does, it does have a giant flaw. You are completely immobile while using this ult. So if multiple gods converge on you and attack you, you will die before even securing a kill.

Combos

Anubis has can be extremely deadly if you can pull off his combos right. There are a few variations to these combos, but the order in which you choose to carry them out is up to you, but I'll post the combos I usually do.

This one is meant for poking purposes more than anything. Shoot Grasping Hands and then use Mummify so the enemy is inside the Grasping Hands for a longer duration

One of the ultra combos. You will melt thru non tanky gods like nothing with this.

This is a great damaging combo. When using this after using Mummify make sure to run to the opposite direction of your enemy and then Plague of Locusts so when they turn around to run away you are there blasting away. He would have to go around you in an arc.

The ultra combo of death and fun. Popping them with Grasping Hands 1st then Mummify and the effect from Grasping Hands will make them run slow, you close the distance and finally hit them with Death Gaze

Creeping / Jungling

Although Anubis is a mage and they usually don't jungle, but you can do great things with Anubis in specific. While you cannot really take on the jungle role full time, you can do things part time. Anubis' abilities in specific are amazing on a single target that you choose. I will run you through the method I use to gank my prey. I will choose my intended target, preferably a god by himself attacking minions or a tower. You approach him from behind and use Grasping Hands 1st to make him slow and deal damage. Follow that by using Mummify immediately after and he trapped with the Grasping Hands under him and finally hit him with Death Gaze for maximum kill security.

2.My second method involves complete brutality and elimination of the target. The only possible way for an enemy to survive it because he is a guardian built to last, using an active to escape, or being ganked by enemy gods while you're attacking. Lastly to put it bluntly, if you simply miss your abilities.

Method of brutality=. If you are in the jungle and you see an enemy god pushing a lane by himself and he is about to reach your tower, simply let him reach so he gets into that zone where he attacks it constantly until the minions are gone. Once he begins attacking the tower, go from behind and use Grasping Hands 1st and then Mummify him while inside the tower so he is being hit with your ability and being shot at by the tower while being trapped. Use Death Gaze to completely wipe him off the map. Combine all those abilities with the tower shooting him at the same time and he is done.

Team Work

Anubis can be a great team player to help out allies. If you see an ally struggling, you can gank his attacker and decimate him with your Grasping Hands Mummify Death Gaze combo. Once the enemy is dead or running away you can switch over to help another ally or continue pushing your lane. With Anubis you can always make sure to make an enemy retreat if you land your abilities right and to make sure you sneak up on the god.

He is also a great presence with your team due to his abilities. You can poke and assist allies with Grasping Hands to slow them down and damage them allowing your team to kill easier. People will also tend to play a bit retreated with Anubis around due to the fact that at any moment you can hit them with Mummify Death Gaze combo. If you are able to trap someone with that combo, your team will most likely push up along with you to help you secure the kill and ward off any would be attacker going for you.

Summary

As mentioned in the title of this build, you are extremely weak to the point of being useless if you miss your abilities. With the low defense comes amazing magical power that can destroy gods, but you must connect the abilities or else you die. This build has four items that each contain +100 power and the remaining items consist of CDR. I believe this is the best way to use Anubis due to his damage potential and being able to perform his abilities more often makes him that much more dangerous.

I don't focus at all on defenses due to the fact that he's a mage. He is already squishy as it is, so I rather make him squishier, but gain immense damage potential. You can 1v1 anyone if you have all your abilities ready and if by the off chance they still survive, they will be running away. You can take full advantage of getting kills with him by sneaking up on enemies with the combos I mentioned above. You increase your killing chances dramatically if your ambush is a success and you hit all the abilities.

Conclusion

Well as I mentioned above, this is my 1st ever smite guide so ignore any "noobish" mistakes. I am open to criticism and comments on this build and will appreciate feedback.
I will give a brief overview on this specific Anubis. His build contains 4 +100 magical power items which makes him an OP son of a gun, but at the same time a very squishy and weak character. This build combines pure magical power and CDR to allow you to use these abilities much more often. You can 1v1 a titan or at least reduce 3/4 of it's health by yourself without minions helping you out. This guide is simply a reference you don't have to go EXACTLY by my guide, you can add your own modifications or touches. Anways that is all, I hope you guys find my guide useful and remember I welcome the feedback and be blunt about it.

Just a tip for you. you're actually limit your damage a little bit (and your chance to stun) as when you stun first less ticks will go of when you hit Grasping Hands first and then Mummify them in the Grasping Hands

as grindy also stated your build lacks pen. On Anubis I even prefer to go with Shoes of the Magi too as Anubis is more of a glass cannon. Also do I like to get an Gem of Isolation on him for even more slowing and making it harder for them to walk out of the ultimate fast. And Imo Anubis is one of the gods you actually don't want to build CDR on sometimes. for pen I do recommend Spear of the Magus on him as he is one of the gods that can benefit from it
(my own build (that I have taken from one of our goobis main) is: Bancroft's Talon(core)- Shoes of the Magi(core for movementspeed focus can be put here too))- Gem of Isolation- Rod of Tahuti(core)-spear of magus(core)- Soul Reaver)

Also on actives I'm going to say meditation is bad the only tiem you should pick it up is in the form of Salvation when playing Assault. meditation even gets worse on mages as Normally (and especcially with your build) they will reach really high regen in mid to later game (and normally you won't run out of mana in a fight so you wasted a active slot) with this build you will have a bonus regen of 55 MP5 add his base regen of 12 on lvl 20 on it and you will regen 13.4 mana p/s.

my own recommendations for actives are Purification Beads (being pretty core on every god so general pick up sometiems swapped when going for Greater Aegis) aegis sprint and Combat Blink (being a very good pickup on him as if you get caught you can blink out of it)

Yea that makes sense. I have actually had people tell me the same thing to replace my soul reaver with either spear of magus or Obsidian Shard. Yea I can see why you would put the Grasping Hands 1st. Every now and then I do buy the beads especially when I see the enemy team has an Ares. Thanks for the comment though, I really appreciate your feedback :D I just added the passive to my section in the skills as well.

Hey,
just registered on Smitefire to comment here.

I'm a mastery X Anubis and your build is pretty nice, but you lack penetration with increases Anubis' damage significantly due to his passive. As his damage is super high anyway and it's all DoT, i would replace Soul Reaver with Spear of Magus.
Also you forgot to mention his passive at all.
And in your combo section, i prefer to first shoot the stun and then put the hands underneath my target but that's all up to personal preference imo.

Other than that, nice guide!

/edit:
Don't buy Meditation, with your stacks you have more than enough mana, get beads instead to at least attempt to survive CC.
