Introduction

Hello and Welcome to my Chaac Arena Guide

Chaac, one of my favorite warriors for many reasons, but mostly because of his sustain. Besides he is wielding gigantic rainbow axe of death... that can't be bad.

If I got something wrong, or if you have suggestions please comment I would love some feedback on how to improve.

So now let's get down to business

Pros / Cons

Pros and Cons

Pros

- Rain Dance and Overflow give him great sustain
- Thunder Strike has good poke
-Good damage from Thunder Strike and decent from Torrent
- Storm Call Has crowd control and damage immunity during the casting and silences for 3s
-He has a gigantic freaking axe

Cons

-Isn't as effective late game without good items picks
- Thunder Strike is very easy to dodge and you can hear it coming from a ways away
-Mid to Late game he becomes a real mana guzzler.
-The Thunder Strike and Torrent teleport combo, doesn't work very well as an escape
-The protections gained from Torrent don't last very long.
- Storm Call doesn't do as much damage as many other ults.

Items

Items

Core Build

a good starter item for most physicals.

I get after Tabi because it gives some starting Physical Power and Physical Protections, plus the 25 physical penetration allows you to do more damage early on.

gives you cooldown reduction that you need in order to use Thunder Strike constantly

Extra Protections

is a good item to get in arena, because arena tends to be a mage heavy gametype. This gives you 60 magical protection as well as a passive giving even more magic protections against ability important mages.

is an amazing item in arena, it gives a decent amount of magical and physical protections as well as health. Plus the passive in arena will most likely be fully stacked within a few minutes giving even further protections.

mystical mark a good item to get if there are any physicals on the enemy team, it has 60 physical protections and the passive does 40 magical damage to every enemy in a 25 feet radius around you. I have had plenty of kills from this, and it does help soften enemies before you attack with your abilities.

Extra Damage

gives 50 Physical Power and 20% critical strike chance for raw damage lategame.

an item I would not suggest unless you are doing very well. Gives you 25% attack speed and the passive allows you to do some serious damage as long as they don't have tons of physical protection.

in case your opponents do get physical protections. It is a very straightforward item and it gives you some serious penetration.

Situational Items

if you are looking for more sustain and a bit of lifesteal this is my personal favorite option, because it also gives attack speed and a nice aura for any physical teammates.

I only get this item when there are particularly pesky characters on the field like Chronos. If you can get into close quarters this plus the slow from Rain Dance will allow you stick to almost anyone.

After 5 successful basic attacks, the next ability Chaac uses costs no mana

A very good passive, the only problem is how to stack it up. You can try to stack it up on a buff camp, or on the minion wave. But chances are you will be forced to stack it up against enemy gods. That is really the only down side to Overflow. I definitely do recommend stacking this as much as possible, since it will save you a good deal of mana.

Chaac throws his Ax forward, dealing damage to all enemies in the target area. The Ax remains idle in the ground for 5s or until another ability is used Radius : 20 Damage : 80 / 140 / 200 / 260 / 320 Cost : 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 Cooldown : 10s

Ranked at 1, 4, 6, 7, 10

I recommend using Thunder Strike as your initiation. Since it allows you to do damage from a distance, throw it out as often as you can especially when enemies are in a cluster. Also one of my favorite tactics is to use the Thunder Strike and Torrent teleport combo to get myself into a good position to use Storm Call. It is also your best chance to damage/kill enemies retreating into the base with low health. This is most definitely your main damage and therefore it makes sense to max first.

Chaac spins his axe around him, damaging all enemies, and gaining protections for each enemy hit (max 5). If his Ax is out from Thunder Strike, he will first dash to the Ax location, doing 50% base damage to enemies he passes through and then executing his spin attack Radius : 20 Damage : 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 Protections : 4 / 8 / 12 / 16 / 20 Protections Duration : 4s Cost : 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80 Cooldown : 15

Ranked at 2, 8, 14, 15, 19

Torrent is a so so ability for me. It does do decent damage, plus the ability to teleport to the location of Thunder Strike with it is extremely useful. But as I said in the Cons section, the protections from it aren't as useful because they don't last long. I do recommend using it when you are being chased and at low health because some extra protections are better than none. However if you can get 5 enemies in your radius, then the protections do become pretty useful.

Chaac summons a rainstorm around his current location for 6s. While it rains, he regains health, and enemies are caught in the mud, slowed, and their attack speed reduced. If his Ax is out from Thunder Strike, a rainstorm will also spawn at that location Radius : 20 Attack Speed Debuff : 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 25% Slow : 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 25% Healing: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 (+15% of your Physical Power) every 0.5s Cost : 75 / 80 / 85 / 90 / 95 Cooldown : 18s

Ranked at 3, 11, 12, 16, 18

Rain Dance is most definitely my favorite ability for Chaac. It is Chaac's main sustain and it is one of the reasons he can stay in a fight so long. Use it when you are retreating and at low health. It regenerates some of your health while your retreating and it makes them slowed so they can't pursue as well. Also a good time to use it is when you are chasing someone. The slow allows you to catch up to them and hit them with base attacks. It is also a decent zoning tool when combined with Thunder Strike .

Chaac charges his lighting ax and unleashes a blast, silencing and damaging all enemies around him. While in the air, Chaac is immune to damage and CC. If triggered within range of Chaac's Ax from Thunder Strike, Storm Call will super-charge, dealing additional damage and also knocking up enemies Radius : 35 Damage: 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 / 350 Additional Damage: 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 Silence Duration 3s Cost: 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 / 120 Cooldown : 90s

Ranked at 5, 9, 13, 17, 20

Now Storm Call is a really useful ultimate. It is true it has meh damage as I said in the Cons section, but it gives cc and damage immunity and a 3 second silence. In order to get as much damage as you can out of it I do recommend throwing down Thunder Strike in the area first. It can be used when you low as an escape tool, being damage immune through the bulk of there damage then while they are silenced and cannot use dashes or jumps to catch up, escape. If you are going to use it offensively, It is probably best to try and get as many enemies as possible in the radius.

Summary and Credits

Summary and Credits

All in all I think Chaac is a very viable god as a damage dealer. He can be played bruiser, and sometimes that is good, but I enjoy having more damage on him. If you want to master Chaac then one thing I can say is, experiment. The build in this guide is something that works for me, but it might not work for you. Have fun playing around with other items and make something that suits you. As long as you have fun playing Chaac that's what matters.

I want to first thank
darks352 for his advice on improving this guide. I still have lots of work to do, but I have him to thank for helping me to do this. Check out his Nemesis and Chronos guides. Also I'd like to thank jhoijhoi for his Guide to a Guide which helped me a lot with the bb coding. Also thank you Jordenito for your suggestions

On a sidenote I did once have the links to darks352's Chronos and Nemesis guides as well as jhoijhoi's Guide to a Guide built into the credits, but since they no longer work I took those out. I will try to fix the problem soon.

Again please give me some feedback, vote if it helps, and I hope I can make this guide even better.

Thanks turnip for letting me know why it was down and working to fix it.

There was a bug on the site that prevented anyone but the administrators from editing the database. That combined with the vast item changes within recent weeks has us quite behind on updates. I think we're working on a branching system - we always simply had an item show its stats at all three ranks, but now that pretty much every item has been placed into an "item tree," so to speak, everything would be much less confusing if we can copy/simulate it.

But it's a lot of work and they've only just fixed the editing bugs (most of them, at least), so it probably won't be fixed for a little while.

I don't know why but Jotunn's Wrath's Icon has been replaced by the old Eye of Retaliation, all the links to the images aren't working.

If you're playing arena, and generally speaking, mystical mark and Hide of the Urchin are best to buy as early as possible.

There is no use for Frostbound Amulet on him at all, Frostbound Hammer is far better and still not a superior choice as you have Rain Dance.

Simply copying the skill description is lazy and serves no use. You don't explain how to use them and give any tips.

Since it's unfinished I won't vote yet. P.M me when you're done so I could review it again.

Seems decent. I usually like to include a little magic defense in my core, but all playstyle.

BTW, Void Blade is not % pen. It is flat pen. Meaning they lose exactly 25 protections. Not 25%
