Bran, can this be considered for archive? I feel like we are just talking to ourselves here. The author has not responded to a single comment.

Why people insist using Aphrodite as a support?
2
Branmuffin17 (394) | December 11, 2018 3:22pm
Because it can be fun and because this person plays it in Support with her boyfriend and that's romantical and stuffers and it's CASUAL.

I'm with Kriega this time. Unless the enemies are brainless is a really painful experience. You can even "win" the early game and early laning phase but they make two antiheals and the character dies (literally). It's just cute for the first five or ten minutes, until the hell begins, at least all the aphro supps I get are like this.

Nah, it wouldn't be fun unless your opponents were of a much lower skill level. Your carry would have to be dominating in lane for it to be even a passable experience.

Aphrodite is my most played god, so I think I can give you some useful feedback. Like you, I love to play her as a support, even with her weaknesses (mana hungry, poor early game and long cooldowns), but it’s been a while since I played her like this, because she’s much more useful in solo and maybe in mid.

Now, looking at your build... I believe you have too many damage items and only one defense item (Lotus Crown). Also, the buying order you made isn’t optimal. I’ll give my opinion on what I’d build for her.

Start: Guardian's Blessing, Chalice of Mana, 2x Healing Potion.

Final Build: Shoes of Focus, Breastplate of Valor, Heartward Amulet, Lotus Crown, Rod of Asclepius, Mantle of Discord.

Other option would be: Shoes of Focus, Genji's Guard, Lotus Crown, Spirit Robe, Rod of Asclepius, Mantle of Discord.

These builds will give you 40% CDR and will make you super tanky.

However, if you want to build damage items to increase her heals, I’d consider items like Chronos' Pendant, Spear of the Magus, Spear of Desolation, Void Stone and Rod of Tahuti. But again, if you’re gonna build full damage, you might as well play mid and be an utility mage. Supports need to be able to take some damage, especially in the endgame and if your solo isn’t tanky enough.

Not sure I would get Breastplate of Valor in a support build. I would rather get the Lotus Crown after boots. So I think Focus shoes, Lotus, genji's, Sov, asclepius, mantle.

Also don't get mana chalice in support role. It's a waste of gold.

Go guardians, tier 1 shoes, and 3 health pots/3 mana pots. With Guardians and blue boots you shouldn't need mana chalice past the first couple of levels.

You could also start..."not sure I would play Aphrodite in a support role."

I also dislike Breastplate of Valor on support builds, because it’s too selfish. But Aphrodite’s cooldowns are a pain, and she needs her abilities to be up as much as possible, so in this case I’d build BoV on a support.

Good suggestions overall. Good general options as alternates, and good summary of her effectiveness in the role. Glad to see you're starting to offer feedback to others =)

Some individual comments:
  • Lotus Crown: I feel this item is less "efficient" for Aphrodite as opposed to most other healers. Aphro is the only group healer that has a hard limit on how many people she can heal at once. It's an option, but not one I would consider core, as the rest of the stats are okay but not amazing.

  • With regard to Aura, Heartward Amulet probably works better for Aphro than other Supports, due to sharing mana regen. That said, sharing 15 magical protection isn't all that much, and unless you're in a situation where you're facing 3 magical gods (which probably isn't the case in your 1st build example since you got BoV first), it probably wouldn't be one I'd pick up. I still see Sov as having more function...yes, the HP5 isn't going to be a big deal because you've got healing, but physical protection is typically worth more (since all map-based damage sources are physical).

  • As such, the 2 protection items you might get after you get shoes online are important choices. Here are some options:

Balanced, Phys focus #1: Breastplate of Valor + Oni Hunter's Garb. BoV prioritized due to need for phys protection earlier, and the importance of CDR is obvious. Oni Hunter's is pretty synergistic (similar application) to Aphro's passive, and the mitigations will help with ALL incoming damage, not just magical. Has great CDR, and also CC reduction which will be helpful for her since she has no escape.

Balanced, Phys focus #2: Sovereignty + Genji's Guard. Sov for the aura, Genji's for the CDR and mana regen.

Balanced, Mag focus: Genji's Guard + either Celestial Legion Helm or Breastplate of Valor. Not all that optimal...Genji + BoV is almost like mana overload. Celestial is okay if not facing a lot of ticking damage. Sov and Lotus are alternate phys protection options, or Spirit Robe perhaps if magical protection is by far the more dangerous threat.

  • I like where you suggest Asclep in the Support role. She'll be attached more often to someone in Support than in Solo, so she'll have the early benefit of MS...so Asclep there isn't as needed. If you rush CDR and have enough mana regen as typically suggested, you don't need the healing boost quite as much until later, when they're more likely to have anti-heal items you need to counter.

  • For the OP's build, Warlock's Staff is just not optimal for Support, due to high stacking, building late for high stacking, and the fact you typically want your ADC or other people to get farm with last hits instead of you. Also agreed...way squishy for too juicy of a target. Protections are appreciated.

I had an excellent teacher :D

So, I thought about picking Oni Hunter's Garb instead of Heartward Amulet for the second defense irem, but unlike more aggressive supports or warriors, Aphrodite should be in the backline, healing teammates and switching between targets, not in the enemies faces. With that in mind, I considered Oni Hunter’s to be less effective than Heartward, simply due to the effective distance (55 vs 70 units). But of course, it can be effective in certain situations.

I know you dislike Lotus Crown on Aphro, because she’s a single-target healer, but the 20 protections can make a difference, both for her target and for herself. Besides, her healing is a 3 second DoT (or HoT, in this case), so the additional protections would last 8 seconds total. With 40% CDR, she can proc the Lotus passive 100% of the time, because her 3 wll have a 8 seconds cooldown. So she basically has 20 additional protections 100% of the time.

genji's + breastplate is a valid option but more-so for solo role than support role, and probably not for Aphro.

Do keep in mind: 15 magical prots negates an enemy's flat pen item. Not necessarily talking about conquest, but could be useful in other game modes.
