Introduction / Updates / Upcoming

I've played League of Legends since 2011, but have stopped since I got into Smite Beta in Sept of 2012. LoL got boring, repetitive, and easy. I'm a married A/C and Heating tradesman with 3 kids, I play / work on guide about 2-4 hours a day after the kids go to bed.

Ignore some of the older comments from when the guide was created, most of the new comments are on the second page.

Updates - 9/19/12 : Gave more detail on skill explanations

Update - 3/10/14 : Updated builds, back playing again after 2 years of High ELO League of Legends play! I will update descriptions soon. The first time I jungled after being gone for 18 months or so this is what I used. I went 10/3/4 (24min) on the first game and went 18/6/10 (42min) the next game, I did most damage both games. So, if I can hop back on Smite after being gone for so long and wreck with this build then you can too!

Update - 3/10/14 : Full update, will be fine tuning as I play more.

Update - 3/11/14 : Working on visual and ease of reading.

Update - 3/12/14 : Swapped out Hide of the Nemean Lion for Midgardian Mail in builds. Added notes about Death's Toll, added a link to screenshots since mods removed my screenshots, and notes about ganking/jungling - changes are in BOLD for ease of read. Also, reformatted the Items and Abilities section, and updated some of the descriptions. Focused builds based on difficulty for Beginner, Normal, and Hard - 3 different builds.

Update - 3/14/14 : Changed Font, worked on Jungle Chapter

Update - 3/16/14 : More Sixth item choices, general editing, a link to a picture for Jungling route, and I destroyed the Bumba's Mask over Death's Toll argument for Bastet

Update - 3/17/14 : Added more viable 5th and 6th item choices.

Update - 3/18/14 : Jungle picture and Screenshots added

Why Death's Toll over Bumba's Mask

Honestly I didn't use Death's Toll on the first two games back. I went Boots Combat Boots Hand of the Gods and potions (that's what my original guide said to do in Sept 2012), but I didn't like the having to buy Healing Potion constantly when I based.

Death's Toll allows me to farm the jungle due to its passive for an extended amount of time, while making me more durable, and do more damage during my initial gank at lvl 2/3. Feel free to try Bumba's Mask but you won't like it after using Death's Toll

Summary :

Faster Clear Times
Sustain in Jungle
Successful ganks

Better than Bumba's Mask for reasons listed above PLUS you do not have to waste an additional 400G on a potion of physical might so 800G instead of 1200G on "starter items" That 400G allows you to get another active or boots as well as 2 potions.

Items and Actives

TIP
If you have extra money when you base then buy Healing Potion and Mana Potion because the longer you are out of base the better off you are for money, xp, and kills/assists.

How to Start

Beginners
Boots Death's Toll Hand of the Gods Healing Potion Multi Potion

Decent / Pro
sprint x2 x2

First Item

When you base the first time finish off your Warrior Tabi if possible and get 2 Healing Potion 2 Mana Potion then start working on either Frostbound Hammer or Heartseeker depending on how good you are feeling.

Second Item

The next item the Beginner/Decent builds' focus on is the Frostbound Hammer between this item and nine tails no one will be able to escape from your ganks. Also this item makes you a bit more durable as it adds +400 HP, and adds a little bit of Physical damage which your skills benefit from. Bottom line this item will save your life and get you at least one kill when you first get it - if not a double kill!

If you're a Pro @ Bastet or are feeling good about not missing your slows then get a Heartseeker first instead, followed by a Frostbound Hammer

Third Item

devourer's gloves

Next we move onto devourer's gloves if your learning Bastet. This item in my opinion should be used on almost every AD melee / AD range God. At max stacks (that you do not ever lose) you get +50 Physical Damage and 20% Life-steal.

If you're feeling good then go to the Rage instead if you're already carrying.

If you got the Heartseeker as your Second Item then you need to get a Frostbound Hammer here, the extra health will prevent you from losing your stacks, and the extra slow will get you fed even more.

Fourth Item

We finish out our damage items with Deathbringer you will see a huge spike in damage once your finish this item. Normally by the time you get this item the other team will be surrendering cause your fed, and if they don't then you'll be making someone rage quit :)

If you're on the Pro Bastet Build then you need to get a Rage here, followed by a Deathbringer

Fifth Item

magi's blessing

Now we need to focus on your durability in team fights, I always go magi's blessing first unless the other team has a fed God that uses Physical Attacks - at that point I get Midgardian Mail first. magi's blessing is very important because if your rooted or CC'd then you aren't going to do any damage because your dead.

If you'd rather not get a defensive item here because you're fed like a fat cat then go Bloodforge or Qin's Sais here.

If you're on the Pro Bastet Build then you need to get a Deathbringer here, followed by an item that will give you more durability like magi's blessing or Midgardian Mail

Sixth Item

magi's blessing

Ok, so you've sold your Death's Toll but there are so many viable Sixth Items that change from game to game. Make the build your own and figure out the best item for you.

If they are heavy AD then get a Midgardian Mail
If they are tanky and built lots of physical protection then get a Titan's Bane
If they built a lot of HP, but not protections then get a Qin's Sais
If you need more damage and sustain for Fire Giant then get a Bloodforge
If they have a ton of CC then get a magi's blessing
If you're going against a fed AP god then get a Bulwark of Hope

General Notes

eye of retaliation

Physical and Magical protection are not effective if you have base HP, so buying an item that gives protection but not HP is not very effective - even if it gives Physical Power like Voidblade or Eye of Retaliation.

Do NOT forget to get level 3 Hand of the Gods when your team starts fighting Gold Fury and Fire Giant so the enemy cannot steal the camp from you. Also do NOT go for these two major camps unless you have Hand of the Gods available, so the enemy jungler cannot come and steal it. Use the active when the camp gets below 25% health.

sprint

Make sure you get level 3 Sprint or Combat Blink at some point in the game, this changes every game based on when the team enemy gets them.

Skills

When you Gank just press 1-2-3-4 in that order and get in some auto attacks

open wound

open wound is your passive, it helps a lot when you gank due to the bonus damage you get from all of your abilities (except your ultimate cat call)

1 Pounce is your gap closer that every assassin needs, if you make a bad choice when you gank your can just activate it again (press 1) to return to your original location (even if you get CC'd you can pounce back). Pouncing the archer minions and razor claws your opponent is very useful while laning with blue buff or Mana Potion Do not forget to pounce back to safety. I start my ganks with this ability.

razor claws

2 razor claws is your main source of damage and helps your cat call focus on one person. When I have blue buff I use this skill as often as I can to farm up, get stacks, and push my lane. This is the second skill I use when I gank, immediately after Pounce

nine tails

3 - nine tails is your movement speed debuff that will 1-hit archer minion groups late game and ensure Gods won't get away when you gank. This is the third skill I use when I gank, immediately after razor claws

cat call

4- cat call is a great ultimate and shreds your enemies with this build. Before you use this ult make sure you razor claws the enemy you want your 3 cats to focus on. This is the fourth skill I use when I gank, immediately after nine tails which slows them for my cats to land more attacks.

Once you get the hang of Bastet make sure you turn on instant cast or quick cast for your abilities, except for Pounce you want that on quick cast.

Jungling / Ganking

You can see the picture here

Bastet My Way
Everyone has their jungling preference, I personally rather not steal xp from my solo laner. When you start ganking at lvl 2 or 3 (before you base) then you do not fall behind in levels. If you do not kill them during your first gank you still gain xp by pushing the minions to their tower. A lot of junglers don't start ganking until they have their ult, and I think that's a bad strategy.. my job as a jungler is to put fear into the enemy by ganking/applying pressure. The way I play Bastet is in your face, I can kill you, but you can't kill me, and it works with this build.

If no one helps you then just focus on getting the closest XP camp, and then going to the red buff followed by another XP camp. After you hit those camps then you want to gank somewhere, preferably mid.

You can also start at the Mid XP camp on the speed side, then hit the XP camp south of Mid XP camp then go to the XP camp on the Red Buff side followed by the Red buff (using hand of the gods) followed by a gank.

You can also start by getting your duo lane support blue buff, just let him tank it. When you finish there go and solo the Red Buff / Speed Buff followed by 1-2 XP camps and gank Mid lane or Solo lane.

TIP

Always start every camp with razor claws unless you are getting help assistance.
Do NOT use Pounce on XP camps unless you are about to base or have 1-2 Mana Potion there are 3 reasons behinds this, 1: is to conserve mana, 2: is to be able to escape an invade, and 3: you want pounce off of cooldown when you gank after you clear a camp.
Always try to gank lanes that have no dash skills or the sprint ability unless they use their sprint or dash ability while you set up the gank.

You can also gank when you hit level 2 if an enemy is overextended and has no escape. All you have to do is let that lane know your about to gank and Pounce (1) on them followed by razor claws (2) Hopefully, you get a little help (you don't need much help) and first blood.

ALWAYS use Hand of the Gods on buff camps during the early game when no one else is helping you, later in the game it's better to save level 3 Hand of the Gods for finishing off Gold Fury and Fire Giant.

Summary and Tips

When you Gank just press 1-2-3-4 and get in some auto attacks

Bastet is probably one of the easiest and op champs to play currently

The way to win all MOBA games is to be patient and attack when you know you can win, this takes time to learn, but when you learn it the game becomes easy.

Watch your Mini Map Constantly and inform your team what is going on in your lane by using the "V" commands AND what's going on in other lanes if you have noobs on your team.

DO NOT BE AFRAID TO RUN YOU DO ZERO DAMAGE IF YOUR DEAD

Physical and Magical protection are not effective if you have base HP, so buying an item that gives protection but not HP is not very effective - even if it gives Physcial Power like Voidblade or Eye of Retaliation unless you are really fed.

Once you get the hang of Bastet make sure you turn on instant cast for your abilities, except for Pounce you want that on quick cast.

Always try to gank lanes that have no dash skills or the sprint ability unless they use their sprint or dash ability while you set up the gank.

If you have extra money when you base then buy Healing Potion and Mana Potion because the longer you are out of base the better off you are for money, xp, and kills/assists.

Results - 90 PROOF Crown Black

Build results Screenshots (varying builds)

You can tell by the results that I gank mid a lot because I get our mid laner snowballing.

Very good build, continue at creating guides. Frostbound hammer is very cool item. Yes bastet have slows, but some times you have cooldowns and enemy can escape. Frostboud hammer reduces enemy chances of escape. Really good idea. Very helpful build. Thanks

Thank you so much for this guide!
I'm a beginner at Smite and I just started playing Bastet as my jungler, with this guide I've managed to go positive in every single game.

The different builds does help make things easier when learning her.

This guide is fantastic, I use the Pro build and average around 18/2. I have even used it in 1v1 jousts and won!

Thank you so much for this guide!
It was quick and easy and got me catching on to jungling pretty fast.

I also appreciate you making a beginner build and a pro build. It helps a lot while learning.

I would replace Frostbound Hammer with Hastened Fatalis for attack speed, since Bastet already has a multitude of slows. Other than that, fantastic guide!

The jungle route is outdated in my opinion. I feel like you should start at red (solo it with Potion of Physical Might and let the solo and mid take mid camps. Then move over to blue, then help solo lane untill level 3 (otherwise he'll be 2v1 for a few lvls since almost everyone helps solo the first few levels). After that get back harpies and start ganking after the second mid camps.

Also, you should make the Beginner, Normal and Pro builds as new builds and add a "starting" build ; what to buy when the game starts. And include Potion of Physical Might in the Pro build, since a lot of people will just come here for the build, and not read the whole guide.

I like the update, still iffy on the Death's Toll but this guide seems a lot more detailed and I like it. I will upvote now, good job!

The Jungle picture helped me out a lot because I don't jungle much, and the normal build worked best for me. I went 10-3-8 and 14-6-9 the first two games. Thanks! ♡

Honestly I didn't use Death's Toll on the first two games back.. I went lvl 2 boots HoG and pots (that's what my original guide said to do in 2012), but I didn't like the having to base a lot because I had no HP. Death's Toll allows me to farm the jungle due to its passive for extended amounts of time, while making me more durable, and do more damage during my initial gank at lvl 2/3.

Games rarely get to the point where I build a 5th or 6th item, but when they do I get Magi's Blessing and I test other 6th items.

The way I play Bastet is in your face, I can kill you, but you can't kill me, and it works.

Heartseeker use to lose all stacks when I played in 2012, and it had lifesteal on it if I'm not mistaken.

I would really like to know why you pick the items you do, not just reasoning that "I rekt everything in 2 games after a long time" would be great.

Why Death's toll ?

Also when i Jungle i go with my Solo laner until level 4-5, as does many enemy teams.

So it's:
If solo left: Speed buff, then mana, then lane, then xp, then mid camps.
If solo right: Either Mid camp or solo red buff, help blue, then lane. (If you go for the mid camp and use your hog to secure it from steal (Does happen), then skip red buff in order to get to solo lane faster to avoid invade).

Both of the options, you should still lockdown the midcamps on time (Easier with new ingame timers).

Other than this, great guide, makes me want to try bastet with the build because I am curious why you build as you do.
Easily understandable and readable.
You have no lore, that is ****ING PERFECT! I see guides with lore, thinking that if I want to read the lore I'll go ingame where the lore is already written anyways, not on a guide.

A note to one of the other comments on this guide: Heartseeker does not make you loose all stacks on death. You do only loose half, please read the tooltips that pops up when you hover the mouse over the links. :)

Nice guide, wouldn't get death's toll as a starter though. I don't think she's meant for that and is more ability/burst based than autoattacks (usually hunters). And plus if you get death's toll, you will get a better sustain item later in the game, Devourer's Gloves. Slightly agree with Jordenito, the Hide of Nemean Lion isn't viable. I'd rather get crit/cdr. Magi's Blessing is OK, wouldn't get it personally. I'd rather get Purification Beads. Don't like your jungling/creep section.

Guide is really nice w/ good BB coding and organization/descriptions. Not voting as of now
