Hi,

I've been on this site for a while now, and it seems like it is generally occupied by the same select people. This gives us a pretty tight-knit community here where we are all pretty familiar with each other. So, I thought it couldn't hurt to get to know some of you a little better.

I thought music would be an interesting place to start. What kind of music do you like? If you like all kinds or something of that nature, who are your favorite artists at the moment? Maybe your favorite songs as a kid or something as well? Anything you would like to share regarding music I suppose.

Personally, my taste in music has changed dramatically in the past few months. This is because I have started making my own music, which has given me a new take on all my old favorite songs. I have a different ear listening to music entirely now.

Since I was a kid, I have grown up listening to songs that had a Hip Hop influence, but I also liked certain types of rock, jazz, and even classical. As I mentioned, I am now creating my own music, which also has the Hip Hop feel. I can't get away from the Boom-Bap, it fits my natural flow so well.

I am relatively new to creating beats and such, so nothing sounds particularly, umm... good... yet. But I am making great progress, though.

So, enough about me. How about you?

Let's see...I like a variety, but I mostly stay away from the most popular stuff (which these days seems to be hip hop, rap, and all the Pink/Bieber/Kesha/Demi Lovato/Adele/Taylor Swift/Katy Perry stuff)...not trying to be a rebel, I just think most of it honestly sucks ***. No offense to those of you that like these, of course =)

Then again, if you like that, you probably will make fun of me for what I listen to.
  • As a kid, I liked all the 80s stuff...you know, the glory days, hahaha. Also, I was forced to play piano when I was 7-13, so I knew and grew an appreciation for classical.

  • In Jr. High era, I got into Guns 'n' Roses, Motley Crue and other hard rock/heavy metal type things, though I also liked a lot of other stuff (Oingo Boingo, Proclaimers, I dunno...stuff)

  • In high school, it was the grunge / alt era...Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure (these first two, and especially The Cure, remain my favorites), Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Counting Crows, Belly, Garbage, Green Day, Live, NiN, Sublime, Soundgarden, Weezer, Collective Soul, Duran Duran, R.E.M., Prodigy, Technotronic, Radiohead, etc.

  • And I know it's been a long time since then, I've moved through trance and other electronic type things, and have mostly settled down. It's quite a mix, but I'll list some off the top of my head: Tycho, Pogo, The Album Leaf, Casino vs. Japan, Lusine, Apparat, Keane, Styrofoam, Thievery Corp, Brett Dennen, Electric President, Guster, Odesza, Parov Stelar, Imogen Heap/Frou Frou, Regina Spektor, Jon Hopkins, and a bunch I can't remember right now.

  • Live, I think my favorite overall genre is Jazz. I don't specifically know many artists, but I just like the music overall. (And to clarify, I'm not talking smooooth Jazz) Anyone seen Trombone Shorty? He's an amazing live artist.

  • In terms of concerts and bands I've seen, I don't go to all that many, like some people. My list includes, but is only limited by my ****py memory: The Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, Trombone Shorty, Blink 182, Green Day, Guster, Brett Dennen, Jason Mraz (my wife used to go see him play at Java Joe's in San Diego before he got big), Weird Al Yankovic, The Submarines, Gin Blossoms, Imogen Heap, Keane, Regina Spektor (saw her last week in a solo performance, her voice is amazing). I've probably seen Guster the most...3 or 4 times.
That's pretty badass that you're making your own music.

Wow, I haven't heard of several of those. I will have to check them out. I have heard of most of them though.

Never heard of Trombone Shorty either. Sounds interesting.

By any chance have you ever heard of DJ Okawari or Nujabes? They are a blend of several styles.

I can't really pick a single song for Nujabes (Rest In Peace), as he was one of my childhood musical icons, and I have many favorites. He was one of the first people I had ever heard combine classical (and sometimes jazzy) sounds with Hip Hop elements. If you are open minded enough, I think each one of his songs fits a mood and can speak to you in some way.

DJ Okawari was one of the later artists that rode in off of the wave that Nujabes helped usher in. He has a few decent songs though, with his most popular being "Luv Letter".

I can kinda listen too all styles however I dislike classical and most styles of rap.

What do I like well depends on mood and activities as I'm the kind that will use TSFH music too heavy metal. in most cases I will be listening metal though or Rock. and while gaming I either listen too Disco heat
(that LoL streamer which makes fun vids with raging kids) playlist or hardstyle.

And well during a night out you probably already know what sort of music goes around nowadays.

Favorite bands:
-sabaton (own 4 shirts, still wanna go to their own festival in falun once)
-eluveitie (celtic :D)
-5FDP
-stratovorius (however album dependant)
-soundtrack music (TSFH mostly)

Let's see here music well there's a lot type of genres that I love in music. I'll list them out:
  • 80's Music: Thank my parents for that. Love all 80's music that's the music I go to if I want to listen to something.
  • Rock / Heavy Rock: Playing guitar 7 years I got a big fond of with rock music. Also classic rock I'm staring to love now as well.
  • Techno / Dubstep: This is one of the genres I loved on my own personally I always get hyped up every time I listen to it.
  • Game OST: This is obvious due to being a gamer you have to love game music. If you play games you have to love the music.
  • Any music that involves with Initial D: That music is some good stuff very upbeat and tech funk you want to dance so hard it's amazing.
  • Anime Music: This is obvious I loved anime since I got into Dragon Ball in middle school so loving anime music is amazing.

*EDIT* Here's some songs that I love from each genre
