Brought to you by Fabulous Chiron! (who is not actually a suggested god for this mode)
So...have you played the new Corrupted Arena Adventure mode? If so, what are your thoughts? In case you didn't know, HR took the main Arena map, turned it dark/purple/evil, with huge pits in various places where you can fall get thrown to your doom. At seemingly random (but not) times, "Dragon's Rage" Kukulkan, who is chained in the middle of the map, will get a severe case of indigestion. This will cause him to jerk about (stomach cramps, apparently) and puke damaging globs of...purple bile? Sometimes, this will also cause sections of the floor to fall away, making more pits for you to feel stupid for falling into...and ALSO sometimes rocks will fall, and if you get hit by them you pretty much turn to stone and die.
Anyway, key aspects of gameplay include not being able to choose certain gods / items (including The Morrigan, Skadi, Magi's Blessing, Stone of Gaia - WTF this doesn't even have the passive CC immunity anymore! Effective decision, HR!). At the same time, gods with strong displacement abilities are OP. I'll break down some of the more effective gods:
Anhur: the best of the hunters. His Impale has a relatively low CD of 12 seconds (get Jotunn's Wrath to have it up more often!), and pushes gods back a pretty good distance. He also has an escape/leap to help him get to safety (can even leap over corners of the pits).
Aphrodite: A surprisingly effective pick if you can play aggressively, get close to enemies and use Back Off! (or link to teammates and use it on them from a safer distance).
Ares: Both a good Beads burner and troll pick. You can chain multiple enemies and drop yourself into the pit, bringing them with you if their beads or other CC immunity abilities are down. A more effective pick to just make sure enemy beads are down so other teammates can more effectively drop them.
Fenrir: (Thanks for the reminder, boogie) Ragnarok is extremely effective. Grab your target, step to the edge, hit cancel, and wave goodbye to them. It also acts as a form of Beads since you're CC immune for the duration.
Geb: Roll Out can be built to max speed from far away. If you connect, especially if coming from the side when enemies are occupied, you'll fling them pretty far. In addition, his Stone Shield can be an amazing life-saver. Amazing.
He Bo: His Waterspoutcan knock them off...but probably not the most effective pick. But this is still Arena, and he still does a lot of damage, so...it can work.
Hun Batz: His ult can fear people off the ledge if they're close enough.
Kuzenbo: His Sumo Slam works incredibly well...just make sure you cancel before you run off the ledge yourself.
Mercury: Special Delivery should work pretty well, though the throw distance is a bit disappointing...I tried it once, but didn't do all that well =P...enemies burned beads at least 3 times in that match, though.
Raijin: His ult has 3 types of hits...you want #3 (the fear).
Sobek: Charge Prey is pretty funny...if you want to be daring, stand with your back to the ledge, and as enemies approach to knock you off, use it and toss them over your head. This happened to me =( I was Anhur, threw my spear, but in the middle of the throw animation, he beat me to it.
Thor: This one is a bit tricky. I watched an enemy single-handedly save his teammates from being tossed by making a wall with his Tectonic Rift along the edge. That said, it also can block his teammates from securing kills.
Tyr: Offensive stance of Fearless is his signature move, and can push multiple enemies over the ledge (though I see them go over themselves quite a bit).
Xing Tian: AKA Mr. Corrupted Arena. As long as enemy beads are on CD, this move can easily, EASILY catch 3+ enemies that have bunched up, and he can safely throw them off.
Ymir: Another tricky one. His Ice Wall can save or blcok teammates, but unlike Thor,
he has to be perpendicular to the length he wants to block. That said, he's also got a great setup with his freeze, if teammates can take advantage of it.
Anyway, I believe GGF and Taco both said they are now Corrupted Arena mains.
Artio can be effective in countering the knockups and pulls since she has a cripple but I had a glitch where her two would stay in place instead of going with her sometimes when switching stances.
Just be a tank or warrior and you should be fine. Hunters get abused so easily and mages as well. Assassins can work if you can play them well enough.
Play PS4 mainly, as you know, so haven't tried it yet. Though I'm somewhat disappointed with this.
They just went full lazy-mode with this, Even Xing's or Fafnir's mountain things were better. This is literally just Arena but the game turns into a complete knock-off fest where whichever team has the best pushes and whatnot has an easier time.
Compared to the Hercules thing this is a huge step down, they could've just brought that back as that was actually really fun to do, to be honest.
Xing Tian is finally top tier again! I will play this a lot when it arrives in console ( Sobek and Xing Tian), probably.
But I have to agree that this adventure was kind of lazy. However, they said the last adventure will be special, so let's wait until then. Still better than Smite Racer.
Never played the Racer thing, and while I do have to admit that it looked stupid, it was at least somewhat more creative than this, so it deserves props to that. It also definitely took more time to successfully implement that. This is just Arena where someone ran through the map with a pair of scissors and cut the parts out. And I might be talking HUGE scissors, but that's besides the point. It really feels like they got bored of having to implement the Adventures stuff, lol.
