DOTA has 110 heroes (I think) with 4 abilities each.

I think you can't even say this. Better is Dota has at least 2 abilities each (including ult). because the abilities can be passive or active abilities (e.g.: viper: ult and q is active the other 2 abilities are passive ones). this mostly depends on the sort of character
(normally/most seen by me:
strength 3 active and 1 passive.
intelligence all actives
agility: 2 active and 2 passive
)

Also add the fact that you got several characters with 5-6 normal abilities.
And of Course we got Invoker with his 3 orb abilities and his ult that makes spells out of it coming to a total of 14 spells (including orbs and ult)

Yeah, that's why I said I think, cause I'm not a huge DOTA expert.
Thanks to Ferrum for making the sig pic! He's beast af people.

Also as a general point - there are "Know Your Enemy" videos and "Know Your God" videos. Both by Hi-Rez the latter uploaded by SMITEPro on youtube.

I have no issue with two games having similar abilities, regardless of who copied/followed who. Two different games will offer vastly different experiences of the same ability, especially in terms of Smite and League. In the case of Nu Wa vs Karthus, you can't deny that there is a different experience that you get from using those two abilities in their respective games.

Personally, I see no issue with having similar abilities. The only reason I feel that people like to point these things out is to just make themselves sure that they're game is better because they came up with a good idea first. Remember that in a lot of cases, doing something first generally doesn't mean you did something better. Doing something second allows you to improve the previous.

Soooo are you saying that Nu Wa's ult is copying or following Karthus' ult?
If you mean Nu Wa's ult is copying Karthus', what did would they have to do to make it 'following'?

I mean, they'd have to rework the whole ult right?

Great questions!

Yes, I am saying that they copied it, versus following it.

The concept of the skill - a global damage skill - doesn't have to change. But its purpose can change. It doesn't have to be a rework. I'll give examples.

Example 1: Shards deal 50% damage in an 20-foot radius AoE. It can be used as an execute, but that purpose is taken over by another: teamfight damage. Just like how a well-timed Kukulkan ultimate can win you a teamfight, Nu Wa's ultimate will also inflict massive damage with good use.

Example 2: Shards hit structures. A Karthus ult is used solely as an Execute, generally, never as raw teamfight damage, as its cooldown is WAY too high to waste on something like that (unlike Nu Wa's ult, which is why she has a high ban rate.) But if it hit structures, you can use it like Sgt. Hammer from HOTS. It's another versatility thing.

Example 3: I really wish I could be more specific about this, but Nu Wa's kit doesn't seem to fit this idea. The gist is that you'd have it interact with her kit. Like, say it dealt more damage to debuffed enemies or automatically detonated any Clay Soldiers on the map, etc. I dunno, her kit clashes hard with this idea.

Example 4: Make it deal slightly less damage, but make it do something utility-based. How to deviate from a damage ult? Give it utility. Make it shred armor, or slow, or cripple, or basically give a reason to use it that isn't just damage, because that's what Karthus' ultimate is for.

Example 5: Give it a 30 second cooldown. Make it deal 80/120/160/200/240 damage (+25% of your magical power.) Make it almost the complete opposite of Karthus' ult while still being similar by making it a sustained damage skill. ROFL.

None of these are exact reworks of the ultimate - Examples 5, 3, and 2 are pretty much the same at a glance, and even 1 and 4 aren't that different. Certainly not as different as old Arachne's eggs vs web wall.

Well sometimes even finding lore online and through books is a lot harder than coming up with an idea. There's many creative people that work for riot. However not for all gods but for a lot, Hi-Rez has to find a bunch if mythological stories and attributes to that god since religion is scattered around. Even sometimes, there's barely any information on some gods, it takes time to research about them and not only that, Hi-Rez has to design their gods based on lore.

No, the lore is important and I'll always love it.

No offense, but as someone who reads and writes stories, finding lore is way easier than creating it. Don't tell me that HiRez recruits Indiana Jones to go into lost temples to find forbidden lores. You can spend ten seconds to do a quick google search, or half a day at the library, but it takes at least a few days to write a good story, if not a week. Even short stories, which sound easy, can take more than a day.

Seriously, finding lore isn't some epic quest you do with great vigor and haste and courage. It's simple, especially in this day and age.

The time is irrelevant. I don't care how much time they put into the lore/story, as long as the lore/story is good, and I find the ancient lore far more fascinating than the stories.

The problem with those is that it's more effective to search for guides here or on tiermonster, the point of what we are saying should be in the god reveal is not them teachin you how to play but more so giving you all the neccesary information you need to develop your own play style with the new god.

The "know your enemy" series is simply put too late.

About the lore thing, no finging the lore of a chacter was not hard, the hardest for me was nu wa which took me a whopping 5 minutes as aposed to the others that took me 2 minutes.

Creating your own lore is like writting a book, it's one of the hardest things do, expanding is not as hard though which hirez should not have such a problem with because they are using existing characters that can quiet easely be given a personal reason to fight in the world of smite.

Im not yet asking of dawngate level lore but atleast something more then "because they come to fight in the war of the gods something is truely wrong" because everyone will say "NO ****" when gods are having war...
never forget dawngate and never forgive EA. Freia will hunt them for eternity.
