Hades is an interesting combo. He is a tank that deals out magic damage. However he also has a jump, stun and life steal. He can be played as either a tank or a mage focusing on solely dealing damage. Each have their pros and cons. Each of these play styles are equally as good as the other, however if you are looking to play Hades as a damage dealer this is not the guide for you.
Now that I have gotten that over with lets dive right into the details of what makes Hades a strong pick for practically any team.
Pros
Incredibly Tanky
If fed can deal a lot of damage while taking very little damage.
Ultimate can destroy an entire team fight if used correctly.
Can combo with any gods who have massive burst damage to easily score kills.
Has a jump
Has high sustain
Great Passive
Cons
Low damage early game without your ultimate
Can't clear creep waves without using skills like most mages
Mana hungry early game
Blight
Blight is Hades' bread and butter. His passive is incredibly helpful. Whenever you hit your opponent with Death from Below(1) or your basic attack they are inflicted with Blight. If you hit your opponent with Shroud of Darkness(2) when they are blighted they are silences and feared. When your opponent is affected with blight Devour Souls(3) will heal nearby allies and yourself, along with dealing damage. When you use Pillar of Agony(4) and you opponent is blighted it will reduce your opponent's protections for the duration of the skill.
Death from Below
Death from Below is your escape, harass, and main way to get blight on a group of enemies. When you use death from below you go underground and quickly move to your target location dealing damage and applying blight to everyone in its radius. This skill will be primarily used as an initiator to start off your other combos. It can also be used as an escape tool as it has a quick animation so you won't be hit. Max it after Devour Souls for the escape potential, damage output, and blight effect.
Shroud of Darkness
Shroud of Darkness is your utility skill. When activated it will create a cone in front of you in which everyone will be silenced. If blighted the enemy will also be feared. This skill can be used after a basic attack to stop the enemy from running in order to score a kill. You can also use this skill to save an ally being chased by enemy. Use Death from Below or use your sprint to catch up to the enemy, hit them with your basic attack, then use Shroud of Darkness to fear them allowing your ally to escape without dying. Max this after Death from Below for utility.
Devour Souls
Devour Souls will be your main damage output and your sustain. When activated it will deal damage to a radius around you dealing decent damage; healing you if your opponent is blighted. You want to combo Death From Below and follow up right after with Devour Souls to clear creep waves, or to deal damage to gods, while healing yourself at the same time. Max this first for the damage output and sustain.
Pillar of Agony
This is the cr¨me de la cr¨me of Hades. Activating this will create a circle around you in which enemies will be dragged in towards you while being dealt massive damage. If your enemy is blighted their protection will drop. You can combo this with Death From Below to blight the enemy, then use Devour Souls to deal damage to them while gaining health, then use Pillar of Agony to trap them in and dealing damage, potentially knocking their health down to 0. This skill can also be used as a team fight initiator dragged the opponents into your circle for your teammates to burst their HP down with their own ultimates causing you to win the team fight if done correctly.
Reinforced Boots
Reinforced Boots
Instead of picking up Boots of the Magi you pick up Reinforced Boots. Tank Hades does not need to deal damage, he needs to be able to absorb a ton of damage. The CC reduction also helps Hades stay in the fight instead of dying to say, a Ymir because he froze you. The speed outside of combat boost also helps to get you back to your teammates as soon as possible. You don't want to leave your teammates alone for long so Reinforced Boots should be your first choice.
Anubis is a great laning partner for Hades. Anubis has mummify to stun the enemy as Hades uses Death From Below+Devour Souls to damage them, then using a basic attack into Shroud of Darkness in order to stop an escape while Anubis uses Grasping Hands of Plague of Locusts for a kill. You can also use Pillar of Agony so Anubis can hit his Death Gaze much easier without any problems.
Ao Kuang is also a strong partner for Hades. Pillar of Agony, then Ao Kuang using a tornado inside the ultimate will deal major damage to the enemies on the inside of the Pillar. Pillar of Agony will also allow Ao Kuang easier aim of his Spirit's Tempest.
Poseidon is a strong laning partner for Hades. Using your Death From Below+Devour Souls combo into Poseidon's whirlpool will hurt your enemy badly while making it harder for them to escape with Shroud of Darkness while Poseidon uses his Trident or Tidal Surge to net a kill. Pillar of Agony can also trap enemies so Poseidon can hit with great accuracy his "Release the Kraken!"
Zeus is one of the strongest partners for Hades. Hades can take all the damage directed at Zeus while Zeus just sits back and does major damage with his charges. Using Hades with Zeus can also allow you to go into Pillar of Agony into Zeus' Lightning Storm in order to get the enemy to 3 charges, and dealing massive damage. After Zeus detonates the charges the enemy should be dead.
This guide is still a work in progress and more sections will be added on later. Remember this is a GUIDE,it is meant to guide you int he right direction, feel free to deviate from it as much as you wish. Do not follow this guide like the Bible. On that last note, have fun playing Hades, the God of the Underworld!
