Introduction

Hades is an interesting combo. He is a tank that deals out magic damage. However he also has a jump, stun and life steal. He can be played as either a tank or a mage focusing on solely dealing damage. Each have their pros and cons. Each of these play styles are equally as good as the other, however if you are looking to play Hades as a damage dealer this is not the guide for you.
Now that I have gotten that over with lets dive right into the details of what makes Hades a strong pick for practically any team.

Pros / Cons

Pros
Incredibly Tanky
If fed can deal a lot of damage while taking very little damage.
Ultimate can destroy an entire team fight if used correctly.
Can combo with any gods who have massive burst damage to easily score kills.
Has a jump
Has high sustain
Great Passive
Cons
Low damage early game without your ultimate
Can't clear creep waves without using skills like most mages
Mana hungry early game

Skills

Blight

Blight is Hades' bread and butter. His passive is incredibly helpful. Whenever you hit your opponent with Death from Below(1) or your basic attack they are inflicted with Blight. If you hit your opponent with Shroud of Darkness(2) when they are blighted they are silences and feared. When your opponent is affected with blight Devour Souls(3) will heal nearby allies and yourself, along with dealing damage. When you use Pillar of Agony(4) and you opponent is blighted it will reduce your opponent's protections for the duration of the skill.
Death from Below

Death from Below is your escape, harass, and main way to get blight on a group of enemies. When you use death from below you go underground and quickly move to your target location dealing damage and applying blight to everyone in its radius. This skill will be primarily used as an initiator to start off your other combos. It can also be used as an escape tool as it has a quick animation so you won't be hit. Max it after Devour Souls for the escape potential, damage output, and blight effect.
Shroud of Darkness

Shroud of Darkness is your utility skill. When activated it will create a cone in front of you in which everyone will be silenced. If blighted the enemy will also be feared. This skill can be used after a basic attack to stop the enemy from running in order to score a kill. You can also use this skill to save an ally being chased by enemy. Use Death from Below or use your sprint to catch up to the enemy, hit them with your basic attack, then use Shroud of Darkness to fear them allowing your ally to escape without dying. Max this after Death from Below for utility.
Devour Souls

Devour Souls will be your main damage output and your sustain. When activated it will deal damage to a radius around you dealing decent damage; healing you if your opponent is blighted. You want to combo Death From Below and follow up right after with Devour Souls to clear creep waves, or to deal damage to gods, while healing yourself at the same time. Max this first for the damage output and sustain.
Pillar of Agony

This is the cr¨me de la cr¨me of Hades. Activating this will create a circle around you in which enemies will be dragged in towards you while being dealt massive damage. If your enemy is blighted their protection will drop. You can combo this with Death From Below to blight the enemy, then use Devour Souls to deal damage to them while gaining health, then use Pillar of Agony to trap them in and dealing damage, potentially knocking their health down to 0. This skill can also be used as a team fight initiator dragged the opponents into your circle for your teammates to burst their HP down with their own ultimates causing you to win the team fight if done correctly.

Items

Reinforced Boots
Reinforced Boots
Instead of picking up Boots of the Magi you pick up Reinforced Boots. Tank Hades does not need to deal damage, he needs to be able to absorb a ton of damage. The CC reduction also helps Hades stay in the fight instead of dying to say, a Ymir because he froze you. The speed outside of combat boost also helps to get you back to your teammates as soon as possible. You don't want to leave your teammates alone for long so Reinforced Boots should be your first choice.

Physical Heavy Teams

Breastplate of Valor

This is a solid second pick versus physical heavy teams. It'll reduce your cool downs, letting you able to deal a lot more damage with Pillar of Agony or let you harass or escape with your Devours Souls or Death from Below more often. It'll also give you the bonus of physical protections so you can stand a lot more hits without dying,an essential for any tank.

Wall of Absolution

The Wall of Absolution is great against physical carries or assassins who tend to your their basic attacks a lot. This item also gives you extra magic power, physical protection and mana regeneration. There is absolutely no reason not to pick this up against a physical heavy team.

Hide of the Neamean Lion

When at max level, Hide of the Neamean Lion gives you a massive amount of health and physical defense. It also can reflect back damage to your attack allowing you some extra harass while you escape or sustain yourself with Devour Souls. You get it last due to its high cost and physical carries don't have much basic attack damage early game as they do late game.

Magical Heavy Teams

Void Stone

The Void Stone is an overall strong item. It gives you magical power so you can do more damage, while giving an aura to the enemy debuffing them, allowing you to do more damage. It also gives you a substantial amount of magical protection.

Magi's Blessing
Magi's Blessing
Magi's Blessing is an interesting item. Every 30 seconds you will get a bubble around you that will absorb any one skill from any enemy god, making you take no damage from that skill. It's basically an Aegis Amulet every 30 seconds that doesn't freeze you. Also when the bubble is up you take substantially less damage from towers and phoenixes, allowing you to tower dive with ease. Magi's Blessing also gives you an extremely high amount of health and mana allowing you to stay in the lane longer.

Stone of Gaia

While also giving you a massive boost in magical protection the Stone of Gaia will allow you for great sustain. While you're laning you will gain health over time, along with Devour Souls this allows for great sustain and will prevent your death many times.

Bulwark of Hope

You may be thinking this may be a weird late game item to pick up. However during the late game everyone hits really hard, the Bulwark of Hope will allow you to run away and escape without dying during team fights that get a bit too hectic. It also gives you high HP and magical protection.

Situationals

Rod of Tahuti

The Rod of Tahuti is an end game damage booster. It is not entirely needed, you can build more defensively if you're losing the game. Only build Tahuti is you are in a favorable position.

Obsidian Shard

The Obsidian Shard is like the Rod of Tahuti. It is strictly a damage booster and should only be bought late game. Only get it in a favorable position.

Gem of Isolation

You can grab this item if you are winning or losing it is favorable either way. The Gem of Isolation can be used both offensively and defensively as Hades. Using it offensively will involve you using Death From Below and chasing down your opponent whittling their health away and chasing them into your teammates then using Devour Souls or Pillar of Agony to score a kill.

Gauntlet of Thebes

Gauntlet of Thebes may seem like such an odd choice during the late game. However if you are in a losing position the Gauntlet becomes favorable giving you more health to tank the enemies. Chances are if you're losing you're going to be killing a lot of minions in order to push the lane or defend the tower/phoenix/Minotaur. Only get this item in a losing position.

Hide of Leviathan

The Hide of Leviathan is like the Gem of Isolation. It can be bought if you're winning or losing. Only buy it when your enemy has a lot of CC. Buying the Hide of Leviathan will allows you to make more escapes and die less overall.

Gameplay

Early Game

Playing Hades as a tank means to play defensively. Don't go and attack the enemy head on. You have to wait for them to overextend or get too close and attack then. During the early game you can also use Death from Below on the minions followed up with Devour Souls to clear the wave and if a god is within your range deal some damage. You should always stay in front of your laning partner if they are a ranged character so you can absorb damage for them. If you partner is an offensive god you may want to call "[VAA] Attack!" to tell them to attack. When you do this you use your Death From Below+Devour Souls combo to poke them while your partner deals damage to them at the same time. This usually results in an enemy dead of both of your enemies being forced to recall allowing you to push the lane. Once you get your ultimate make sure to call "[VVVR] Ultimate is Ready!" to tell your partner that you can now use your devastating ultimate in conjunction with their skills in order to score easy kills.

Mid Game

You should be focused on doing the same thing you did early game and pushing the lane with your partner, however be sure to pay attention to the mini map. If middle lane is having trouble go to middle lane and use Death From Below on the enemy god then use Devour Souls to deal damage, then use Pillar of Agony to finish them off giving middle lane some push and you score yourself an extra kill.

Late Game

This is the portion of the game where you have the majority of team fights. Make sure to keep an eye on the Gold Fury and Fire Giant. If you notice most of the enemy is gone go check the fire giant,if they are in there you should do the Death From Below+Devour Souls combo into Pillar of Agony to severely weaken them for your teammates and potentially steal the Fire Giant. While in a team fight you are the initiator, the entire fight starts with your ultimate or Death from Below. If an enemy is running away chase them and use Shroud of Darkness to fear them to score a kill with an ally. Hades' goal in team fights is to initiate the team fight with his Devour Souls or Pillar of Agony and then using Shroud of Darkness to stun them long enough for your allies to kill them. You also are great at chasing other gods with Death from Below and Shroud of Darkness.

Laning Partners

Anubis is a great laning partner for Hades. Anubis has mummify to stun the enemy as Hades uses Death From Below+Devour Souls to damage them, then using a basic attack into Shroud of Darkness in order to stop an escape while Anubis uses Grasping Hands of Plague of Locusts for a kill. You can also use Pillar of Agony so Anubis can hit his Death Gaze much easier without any problems.

Ao Kuang is also a strong partner for Hades. Pillar of Agony, then Ao Kuang using a tornado inside the ultimate will deal major damage to the enemies on the inside of the Pillar. Pillar of Agony will also allow Ao Kuang easier aim of his Spirit's Tempest.

Poseidon is a strong laning partner for Hades. Using your Death From Below+Devour Souls combo into Poseidon's whirlpool will hurt your enemy badly while making it harder for them to escape with Shroud of Darkness while Poseidon uses his Trident or Tidal Surge to net a kill. Pillar of Agony can also trap enemies so Poseidon can hit with great accuracy his "Release the Kraken!"

Zeus is one of the strongest partners for Hades. Hades can take all the damage directed at Zeus while Zeus just sits back and does major damage with his charges. Using Hades with Zeus can also allow you to go into Pillar of Agony into Zeus' Lightning Storm in order to get the enemy to 3 charges, and dealing massive damage. After Zeus detonates the charges the enemy should be dead.

Conclusion

This guide is still a work in progress and more sections will be added on later. Remember this is a GUIDE,it is meant to guide you int he right direction, feel free to deviate from it as much as you wish. Do not follow this guide like the Bible. On that last note, have fun playing Hades, the God of the Underworld!
