Alright, let's see. Hi Supernovache, BTW. This is an interesting concept.

Let's establish a basic concept first. Can we agree that Support is NOT meta, and is unlikely to ever BE meta?

That said (and agreed upon, thanks), this is again an interesting concept, along the lines of or support, for the early aggression. And the fact that Rat will often build bruiser (fairly tanky) gives additional support to the concept.

The build list actually contains a solid listing of items. I would say that the build creator, based on this, seems to know standard Support items and counter-building. As an FYI to Super, I would suggest for non-meta builds that you take a bit of time to explain how it works for you and why.

I don't fully agree with the item listing, but we'll get into that later.

First...how Rat Support can work.

Rat's Kit

The passive, Acorn of Yggdrasil (P), can be purchased outside of the fountain. He not only starts with 8% movespeed via Magic Acorn, but with all other things being equal, at 700 gold he gains 3% MS and 10 power, and at 1,600 gold he gets a huge power boost (50 power and 20% MS, plus a minor heal). With 3 regular abilities that damage, this can be a lot of pressure, especially for the enemy ADC that is still trying to complete Devourer's Gauntlet and the enemy Support that likely is going for Shoes first, with no initial protections.
Dart is good for initiation and has a long duration (3 seconds) slow. It can also be used for peel, especially in combination with Acorn Blast's stun. (Also, depending, you may want to level this at 1, and Acorn Blast at 2. You can move to the back minions and dash back to your side through the wave...similarly to how Athena might do it. It would be the safer level 1 option perhaps.)
As mentioned by others, Flurry's protection reduction will help with early aggression not only for Rat but for his ADC. By level 4, if he can get all 4 Flurry hits off, that's equivalent to 12 pen. Most ADCs at level 4-5 will have around 30 physical protection, while Guardians will have under 40, so this is a good chunk of their inherent protections. Your biggest concern will be getting the hits off without being interrupted, so you'll need to watch out for enemy Support abilities.
Acorn Blast, as mentioned previously, in a support role is going to be used for the stun. It's not a great peel ability, as you can miss hitting all 3 acorns for the stun, you need to be on top of the enemy, and it's a short duration (1 second)...but it's still something.
Through the Cosmos is a great Support / Disruption ability.

In a face-to-face battle, it's not as functional, as the charge-up and movement takes you OUT of the fight for a while (which is not great when you're tanky and looking to help soak damage)...but if you have the advantage and can force the enemy to retreat, this is a great chaser / finisher.

When rotating, this is perfect for getting you into an existing fight more quickly, and for that disrupting knockup.

Based on all this, his kit isn't the greatest for Support, but it's far from the worst.

Next, let's talk about itemization.

Rat Support Items

I think all of the listed items are generally acceptable. However, I might disagree with the starting items and the core items to some degree, and feel that making sure you get at least 20% CDR in the full build is important.

Starting Items: it's nice that you don't have to invest in T1 boots. It allows you to choose a start for the 2nd item. Also, Guardian's Blessing, as Myst mentioned, is very good for mana sustain, but when he unloads his kit, he's pretty mana hungry, so I personally feel at least 1 Mana Potion or 2 Multi Potions (or better yet Baron's Brew!) would be better.

That said, you can go one of 3 ways.

1: Your suggestion of Glowing Emerald is good for the health and HP5, and allows you to more quickly build into Gauntlet of Thebes. But I feel this may or may not be appropriate to the concept of this role, which is early aggression (more on this later). Gauntlet, once stacked, WILL allow you to absorb a good amount of damage...but for the time while your stacks are still low, you're not getting that tankiness.

2: Rush your Acorn. Get Guardian's, Acorn of Swiftness, and a couple of Health Potions. You'll need to be very conservative and just farm until you're ready to attempt the gank, since you have very little sustain. More on this strat later.

3: Go for an aggressive 2nd item with intent to continue the early aggressive game after the first kill attempt. Instead of Glowing Emerald, get Round Shield as a precursor to getting Void Shield. That will give you decent physical tankiness, and the protection reduction will enhance that from Flurry, giving you and your ADC (physical, not magical) near true damage in that early to mid game.
Core Items: I am cool with considering Gauntlet of Thebes and Sovereignty (at least typically) as core items. I'm less okay with Heartward Amulet, which just doesn't seem all that strong right now. I think other items will do more for you... Genji's Guard for the CDR and higher personal MP5, Pest as you've listed for anti-heal, etc.
CDR: You have 3 CDR items listed throughout... Witchblade (which would be situational and a late item), Shogun's Kusari, and Mantle of Discord. As I just mentioned, I think Genji's Guard should be considered. Situationally, also Spirit Robe and Breastplate of Valor. I don't think you need 40% (max) CDR, but he will 100% benefit from at least 20%.
Frostbound Hammer: Agree mostly with Myst. Not the best item for him. Better for a solo-laner perhaps. Yes, it can give him enhanced slow since he doesn't have as strong of a CC kit as some Guardians, so maybe situationally...

Finally, gameplay tactics.

In conclusion, this isn't a pick I would use in many situations, but in casual in a group/clan with a high skill ADC that can choose a good early aggression god, this can definitely be a functional and fun choice.

It's on my guide. Still experimenting though. And lane before first back will be very rough against certain characters, e.g. Hercules (getting caught by his combo once will likely be a death without relic and/or full health so you will need to juke a lot, got me thinking of guardian's blessing).

Chronos would never work as a support. Also building book of the dead and Oni hunter's garb is good on him if you go book of thoth.

Im not sure the tanky Chronos thing would work in ranked. Perhaps it could, perhaps it wont. Damage built chronos solo has had different levels of success in the times I've run it in ranked but I haven't run tank/hybrid there once, which would possibly help in squishy comps.

My only comment here is that does not worth on a rat since he is much more skills than basic attacks.

Also consider , and mainly as tank options.

Also it's good to remember ratatoskr damage fall at late game so it's interesting to say that you must be aggressive at early game.

I agree with you it's not the best item for Rata only in some situations (when the slow giving by the dash is not sufficient). For exemple, sometimes on the ennemy team an Amaterasu with a lot of movement speed always escapes in teamfight. With this item, you can slow her proficiently so that your team chases and finally kills her.

I'll try the optionnal tanky items you spoke of :)

That's how I play rat and I think it works well with this build as support. I played rat support lots of time (like 200 games). Most of the time, mates are surprised. If you loose, they will probably blame you :)
Concerning the relic, you have to play very aggressive in the early with the acorn that you can upgrade without returning to base. You have to play with mobility and dodging with rata that's why I chose the wings relic so your team can follow you and catch ennemies.
I left the second relic opened because it depends of your team and the enemy team but most of the time i take the slow which reducts damage too when upgraded.

And no mana potions because I need them very rarely in the early so i prefer taking health potions.

So um, I have never seen a rat support before. Why rat instead of a guardian or warrior? Other than the early aggression appeal with ?

Why no mana potions in your start?

Why is your first relic instead of (in fact, you don't even have shell listed as a viable relic)?

Ratatoskr support is also new to me. Rat has something very precious nowadays: "Early Pressure". Due the high damage at early game he can be very helpful to ADCs that is not so good at early game such as .

is always the priority due the protection reduction it provides that is a very good amount on early game.

If you do guardians blessing you don't need mana potions since it restore mana for every minion assist.

And for last but not least provides a very aggressive early game, what rat does best manly upgraded, with no movement penalty. Although is an excellent relic as second relic.

But the thing is, the blessing also restores health - more mana is restored comparitvely, but still.

I also dont agree completely with how rat can help a weaker adc. Theres something rat lacks that other supports have: hard cc. As branmuffin mentioned, its very possible you will not get all acorns hit with acorn blast. So I will not count it as a reliable source of hard cc.

Let us say I was a ymir enemy support. I am not just going to stand back and let you agress on my adc. I know you need to get in close to do anything. As soon as you close the distance, I will freeze you. Now you will take minion damage along with my damage as well. Since you got heavenly wings instead of beads, you are at a disadvantage.

Overall, I agree with branmuffin. I like the concept and it is interesting, but I definitely want to see more explanations on how to play rat in the support role, since it is so off meta.

The blessing restores health and mana.

The mana restore is dependent just on your own ability use. With proper ability management, you'll be mostly fine until you offload your entire kit, at which point you'll definitely be hurting for mana. The blessing is much better for mana restoration than health. When you DO use your entire kit, that's where a mana potion or multi potion could come in handy, so you're not stuck there basically useless. (Keep in mind, I'm talking about early game before you get any other items with mana or MP5)

That health sustain from Guardian's isn't enough if you're being aggressive and taking damage, both from minions and enemy gods. Hence why you always get health potions or .

As for ...well that's the chance you take when you choose Rat Support. But you can also look to bait his Freeze, cuz he ALSO doesn't have much to close distance with you. If he uses his wall, an angled dash will get you out of range quickly. You could also try baiting from the side and dashing just a bit to one side of him...that cone can be tougher for him to connect when close in. The Freeze early game has a long CD, and you'll have a lot of time to choose your attack once it's down.

Also, with Rat early aggression, if your jungler also looks to help gank, 3v2 with aggressive Rat is a more reliable kill secure.

That's an off meta pick man, Rat does not offer everything a true support does but yeah he has something here or there that can really be useful as a support. As Bran said you will need an smart ADC to help you. In fact I think is much more a solo lane than support.

And yes, I agree with you, if this become a meta pick, it would need a really in-depth guide, and a sup rat isn't something you will always want at your team. The author just did the builds and not a guide.

Anyway, Although the concept is interesting I guess this won't will become a meta pick, it will be just like my jungler in my guide, just for fun and try new experiences.
