Introduction

Welcome to my overall 16th guide and its foe Poseidon God of the Oceans

i will assume that you know the basics of what AA FG GF AD and AP mean as well as AoE MIA CD and CDR but just in case:

AA - Auto Attack

FG - Fire Giant

GF - Gold Fury

AD - Attack Damage

AP/MP - Ability Power/Magic Power

AoE - Area Of Effect

MIA - Missing In Action

CD - Cooldown

CDR - Cool Down Reduction

HP - Hit Points/health bar

MP - Mana Points

HP5 - Health/hit Point Regeneration per 5 sec

MP5 - Mana point regeneration per 5 sec

DoT - Damage Over Time

HoG - hand of gods

Pros / Cons

Pros:

+ Good Mid

+ very fast movement speed with Trident and Changing Tides

+ Strong through mid/late game

+ fair early game

+ Release The Kraken! is a great ultimate and great for teamfights

+ strong push with Whirlpool which also has a cripple effect on it and works well with Gem of Isolation

+ small knock up with Tidal Surge

+ can abuse his speed to doge and juke a large portion of skill shots and and even some aoe spells

+ can apply effects like Gem of Isolation and Spear of the Magus on many targets at once due to his aoe spells

+ Trident makes his magical AA hurt a holy ton and Gem of Isolation makes them slow for the duration of Trident as if it were a Gem of Binding

Cons:

- mostly Squishy through all staged of the game

- Needs proper use of Changing Tides for best effect

- Tidal Surge can be hard to hit at long range

- Whirlpool needs a bit of time to form so a enemy with fast reactions can jump/dash before cripple can take effect

- Release The Kraken! is countered by Aegis Amulet and in case cripple and Whirlpool were not on the targeted enemy you may not land it due to a fast dash/jump

- weak to slows if they land can really hurt the fast moving Poseidon style gameplay

- weak to strong forms of CC such as stuns

- weak to burst

- not so good against strong self sustain like gods such as Zhong Kui

- Beware the Terror Known as Loki... 85% of the time he can instantly kill you

Skills

Passive: : this is our passive some what self explanatory AA make it grow and makes you move up to 20% faster when full and makes your spells do up to 20% more damage when full casting a spell lowers the meter in general a great passive just make sure its full when going for a kill

spell 1: : this is a long line skill shot that has a small knock up effect and deals fair damage can be used to cancel out some spells like Wing Gust

spell 2: : this spell is asteroid that gives movement speed and give's your AA 2 additional waves that fill our passivethese waves deal magic damage and will apply Gem of Isolation

spell 3: : this spell is a circle AoE like spell that has a pull towards it center works great with Gem of Isolation

spell 4: : this our ultimate its a 2 circle like AoE if you hit with the inner circle the targets are knocked up take more damage and are stunned in general this the skill that Poseidon is most well known by and we love it with full tide it can deal up to near 600 magic damage

Items

1. we get these Shoes of Focus for there CDR AP and mana

2. we get the Gem of Isolation for the slow on all our spells its AP and other stats are also nice

3. we get the Polynomicon for its obvious Passive the other stats are also great

4. we get Rod of Tahuti for its large AP boost the additional stats that is MP5 is also good

5. we get the Spear of the Magus for its large pen the other stats are also useful

6. we get this Ethereal Staff for its large boost to HP which lets us live and its decent AP as well

i dont get anything else specific as the above build is my ideal build and works in most games the only thing i may switch ever would be Ethereal Staff for Sovereignty if the enemy team had 4/5 AD based gods or so

Actives

1. Purification Beads to save us from hard CC

2. Aegis Amulet to save us from burst

3. Shielded Teleport to move really fast to a unepected fight or to run away from a bad situation after butting up some distance

4. Eye of Providence if you need wards

Gameplay

As you want Mid lane though you can solo you prefer mid

Early game

1.you should ideally help the jungler with the mid camps to fill the passive by a bit
you then hit the lane and AA the minions to max the passive you can then take out a full wave with just a well placed Whirlpool in general play passive till LVL 5

2.at LVL 5 with a full passive you can get a kill 75% of the time with a Whirlpool & Release The Kraken! combo followed by a Tidal Surge for a kill if they dont die you can use Trident to finish them off

3.make sure to pick up the mid camps after doing a creep wave ideally your jungler should stop by mid when you guys pick them up

4.if your mid recalled and is gone call mia and see if there is a chance to go and gank a lane for a kill if not then stay mid if the mid lane goes somewhere you follow them just be careful not to follow them into a ambush this is usually called rotating with your lane aka they go to gank a lane you follow them to help the ganked lane

after a few of the above things you should be getting to mid game

Mid Game

1.when mid game starts you want to have ideally pushed the mid tower down and start roaming to gank lanes and try and get other towers down go with the jungler to steal there buffs or help a lane with the jungler and ect...

2.you will be trying to get more objectives like GF and some towers ideally save your Release The Kraken! for a teamfight and taking out the main carry targets ect..

3.after a few of the above and objectives pushed yo go into the late game

Late Game

1.now you stop roaming as it gets more risky to be alone so stick with the team and go for the final objectives the phoenixes and/or get FG with your team after a teamfight is won ect...

2.this should be the winning push were you guys either kill the enemy and there minotaur or just the minotaur

3. GG WP

Combos

1. Whirlpool + Polynomicon hit + Tidal Surge this is your mid game strong poke hit and late game it can kill sometimes depending on who your hitting after this cast Trident and follow up with some AA to finish them off it will also trigger a 2nd Polynomicon hit

2. Whirlpool + Release The Kraken! + Polynomicon hit + Tidal Surge + 2nd Polynomicon hit + Trident + follow up AA this is your Killing Combo mid/late game thats usually a 100% kill on any non tank target even heavy bruiser lose 85% - 95% of there HP with this thing

as far as early game goes the best you can do is just cast Whirlpool at a enemy god as there moving with the actual wave and hope it ticks on them a few times ect...

you dont have to always go with a combo when fighting you can tactically cast spells individually or in combo with the spells of ally gods for batter effect

Match Ups

Strong Points:

- fair push

- good self sustain

- high protections with his Demon Bag

- good CC

- CC immune in ult for 5 sec(YES 5 Full sec)

Threat LvL:Dangerous

Counters:

1.Early Push = force him into the tower he cant whipe a wave till LvL 3 or so take advantage of this

2.well coordinated ganks that blast him with a lot of skills CC and 2 ultimate spells killing him before he can even react

3.his stun spell lacks range if your careful you can avoid it

4. late game you can combo burst him with some pen items and ect...

weak points:

+ he has no dash/jump like escape mechanic

+ weak to well timed ganks when his passive is down

+ lack of many weaknesses makes Zhong Kui players overconfident letting you take advantage of them or at least some of them...

Strong Points:

- strong push somewhat batter then ours

- has a long range poke spell Spirit Ball

- has a silence slow magic protection de-buff spell

- her ultimate can let her survive or counter our burst if well used

- great for setting up ganks

- hard to catch when running away

- moves faster while casting Wing Gust

- no backpedal penalty while using Wing Gust

- if her passive somehow manges to get stacked she becomes much harder to deal with

Threat LvL:High

Weak points:

+ very squishy if she messes up her ult while trying to counter ours she dies

+ weak to various forms of CC

+ her Wing Gust can be canceled out with our Tidal Surge hard to do but can stop a lot of her damage from ever reaching us

+ her Spirit Ball is a skill shot to a degree and can be avoided at long range with out speed

+ she is weak to ganks even more so if the jungler has a stun/ or knock up like spell to stop Wing Gust

+ she cant detonate Spirit Ball while under the effect of CC so a cast of tidal surge as he is casting Spirit Ball towards you can make the spell backfire of the timing is right

+ quite squishy

Counters:

1.No real counter plays you can do here it all depends on how well you can abuse above mentioned weak points while dealing with her strong ones

2.the jungler will decide the winner here who ever gets the edge first will need to make sure to hold it and push fast keep up wards for ganks and make sure that it does not go back into a even contest

Summary

Overall Poseidon is a very strong pick for the mid lane and optional for the solo lane and i hope my guide helps you out the match ups will grow bit by bit as i update and work on all possible counters and ect... also let me know which presentation you like more for match ups A.counter writen at the middle or B.counter writen bellow the actual icon

1.) add punctuation. Please.

2.) add the skill leveling section in the build part. It sound like you want us to upgrade Whirlpool first, but we really don't know.

other than that, great guide.
