Odin summons a flock of Ravens that create a shield around him. When the Shield expires it explodes outward, dealing damage to nearby enemies based on how much Health it had remaining. If the Shield is at full health, it deals additional bonus damage.

The shield will not expire while Odin is using Lunge, and will always detonate upon landing.

Odin begins empowering Gungnir with Runic Magic, becoming immune to knockbacks. Every .7s Gungnir changes runes and Odin pulses out damage around him, slowing enemies for 2s. When Odin releases Gungnir it travels forward, damaging enemies and stopping on the first god hit. The first rune causes allies around Odin to gain Attack Speed for 3s. The second allows Gungnir to home onto enemy gods. The last rune allows Gungnir to stun.

Odin summons a wall of spears that blocks his enemies movement. Enemies inside the ring cannot heal, and their power is reduced by 15%. Odin is immune to Slow and Root effects while in his Ring. A portion of the wall can be destroyed when hit by 5 Basic Attacks. Enemies that leave the ring through or over a wall are chased by Gungnir, taking damage and becoming slowed for 2.5s.

Enemies that die inside Ring of Spears grant Odin a permanent bonus to Physical Power.

My Introduction

What's going on, guys, Stuke here once again for another guide continuing my Warrior Series. In this guide, I will teach you what you need to know about how to play the great and almighty god of healing, death, royalty, the gallows, knowledge, battle, sorcery, poetry, frenzy, and the runic alphabet (This guy has a lot under his belt). Or simply being known as Odin, the Allfather.
Note: you don't have to follow this guide to the smallest detail, these are suggestions on how to play Odin. I encourage you to look at the comment section below and see other suggestions.

Who is Odin?

Odin is a Physical, Melee, Warrior that is more guardian-like than some of the other warriors with a significant lack of damage like Guan Yu but in the Early Game, Odin does an insane amount of damage.

An interesting passive for a warrior, this activates when either an enemy or an ally is killed. Giving Odin a movement and power boost for a short duration, also the passive increases in speed and power the more gods die in the game.
As Odin was one of the original 20 gods of Smite, their moves are very simple without much mechanics or depth to them but when Odin got his rework it can be combined with another ability. Speaking of which.
This ability gives him a shield that can absorb damage and not take away from his original health but wait there's more. Activating Raven Shout before using Lunge can increase the damage to the leap, having the shield at full health provides even more damage. This is the main reason why Odin's Early Game is as powerful as it is and can let him snowball hard but can still be a viable shield for a good chunk of health when going into the Late Game. With the changes to Gungnir's Might now being a better clearing tool, his Bird Bomb combo now has other uses besides clearing the lane and having no damage during fights.
You ready for a long write up cause it's about to get crazy. Upon activation, Odin takes up a throwing position becoming immune to knock-ups while in this stance. While in this position, Odin releases a pulse that damages and slows all enemy gods close to him up to three times. When fired, the projectile will travel forward until it hits an enemy god, making this Odin's lane clear and that can also buff or crowd control depending on which rune you land on. For each pulse, Odin cycles through magic runes that provide different effects.
  • Rune 1: Provides Odin and ally god with an attack speed buff for a duration.
    This can be great for boxing opponents in the cage or it can be used to help against towers, jungle bosses, and other objectives for a quicker clear.
  • Rune 2: Allows the projectile to home in on a target.
    While that seems a bit lackluster at first glance it can be useful to hit those more mobile enemies like Susano or Bastet.
  • Rune 3: Hitting an enemy god with the projectile stuns them for a duration.
    While each rune has there situations, the final rune seems to be the most used out of the three since being able to stun a target can provide set-up for your Bird Bomb, ultimate, a teammate to secure the kill, or just simply annoy them from a safe distance.
The main source of Odin's control. Upon activation, Odin creates an octagon (still called a ring) of spears around an area. Enemy gods caught in the ring will have their healing reduced to 0. Any enemy god that dies in the spear gives Odin a stack of physical damage for each enemy killed. The only downside of this is that enemies with leaps, can pass through the walls, or have the Phantom Veil Relic could bypass this obstacle but that might not be in their best interest unless they're willing to take a bunch of damage if they were to leave that way. To make up for that, the walls of the ring can be destroyed to avoid the damage giving the enemy three options: leave the ring the wrong way and take damage, leave the spear the right way, fight Odin and his teammates, or try to survive.

Tips, Tricks, & Combo

  • Make use of the Early Game
    Odin does a lot of damage in the Early Game when compared to other Solo Lane gods, so play just aggressive enough to bully the enemy and get the first kill to help steamroll throughout the game. Do it quickly as Odin's damage falls off hard as the game goes on.
  • Use Ring of Spears Offensively and Defensively
    You can either trap someone in to confirm the kill or widen the gap between you and the person trying to kill you or an ally.
  • Build Tank Items
    Despite being a Warrior, his defenses, health, and lack of healing make it hard for him to sustain.

A classic combo for any Odin player commonly referred to as the "Bird Bomb". As stated in the ability section, the amount of damage this ability provides the only downside is that it can be easy to dodge so find a way to slow down or keep them locked in one spot before you drop the birdbomb.
To engage or disengage, this combo can help line up your birdbomb or to widen the gap between you and your would-be killer.
Ultimate Combo
Hitting the enemy with Gungnir's Might to get them to slow down, or stun if fully charged, pop your shield and leap on the now slowed target to make the shot easier to land. After that, you want to trap them in the ring to further punish them for not getting away any sooner. Alternatively, you can use Gungnir's Might after you drop Ring on your target to make it easier to box them or drop Ring first and follow up the combo from that point.

Stages of the Game

Early Game
There is no god that I can think of that has a more devastating god in the Early Game like Odin. The Bird bomb Combo is a certified killer if the enemy is squishy enough. Be careful as Odin's protections are low and easy just as easy to kill as his opponent.
Middle Game
Now, this is where Odin’s protection starts going up, but at the same time, his damage is starting to take a downturn. It's not a steep change, for both protection and damage, but there's just enough to make things a bit interesting.
Late Game
Now Odin’s protection and damage have completely switched places as now he is very tanky, but he lacks all that damage output. As a substitute, his crowd control becomes better and online more frequently so it's not all bad for him.


In conclusion, Odin can be a serious powerhouse. If feed throughout the Early Game and combined with his Crowd Control with his Ring of Spears can make him a threat if not dealt with quickly or suffer from a snowballing Odin. So, take these tips into battle and show glory to the Allfater.

Hey stuke, spotted a mistake in your guide. In the Ring of Spears description, you mention it reduces attack speed. That feature got removed.

Yo Stuke,

I will maintain that I feel Runic Shield is a stronger early-game item. You have it as item #5, and I feel that's too late. Dropping an enemy's magical power by 50 in the early game is significant, especially when they only have 1-2 items with power. Better options would probably be more standard magical protection items, like Oni Hunter's Garb (which is not even listed anywhere), Pestilence (for anti-heal when you're not ulting), or dual protections like Spirit Robe. You might even consider Shogun's Kusari, since while he won't get a lot out of it, that aura is nice for grouping up on objectives.

Earlier items are standard and seem fine.

I don't like Mantle of Discord on Odin either, or at least not as the main example...I think there are better items for him, and this is more for gods that can really use that stun to keep them alive or give them another couple of seconds to try to kill before being killed. He has his shield from Raven and his leap, and more prots.

I don't know if it truly is only knockbacks, but the writeup for his 3 is immunity to knockbacks, not knockups as you have written.

I don;t remember where I had this discussion, however knockbacks and knockups are considered the same thing for immunity.

As one option, I'd replace the hide of the urchin with spirit robe for max cdr - allows you to spam ult more often.

Plenty of health from pestilence and midgardian, so I'd say spirit robe is an acceptable sub.

Relic dagger is a nice substitute too if you want to spam blink rune + ult

Ok my build for jg odin is full pin should re do it or keep I ask someone in a strem for a build and that's what I got.(with out The Crusher)

This guide is pretty damn amazing. I'm rank X with Odin and use the same build as a jungler. Only thing I recently swapped out was Hide for Runeforged. I switch between the two, but sometimes, using Odin's slow, that Runeforged adds that extra damage to secure kills in team fights. Great great guide though.

Been running all the variations of this build and I really like where it's going for me. I've always been an Odin fan ( he was my first mastery 1 god in smite <3) but I faded away from him for a good while and this really helped me remember what a monster he is in the right hands.

I've been mostly using the Solo/Mid setup for a bruiser in joust with Hide replaced with Frostbound depending on enemy comp. aptly named JumpRekt Inc.
