My Introduction

Hello, Stuke here, with a brand new guide. In this installment in my Warrior Series, I'll be giving you a guide about the brave, the lawful, and heroic, Tyr, the Lawgiver.
Note: you don't have to follow this guide to the smallest detail, these are suggestions on how to play Tyr. I encourage you to look at the comment section below and see other suggestions.

Who is Tyr?

Tyr is a Physical, Melee, Warrior that uses his high crowd control and damage to apply pressure to his lane opponent or the entire enemy team. With all this CC and damage people think he won't have any defense to deal with all that damage but that's where you're wrong, his passive, sustain, escapes, and natural defense makes him a hard zit to pop.

Pros / Cons

- High Single Target Damage
- High Crowd Control
- Stance Switch

- Stance Switch has a Cool Down
- Combo is easy to miss
- Dependent on blink

This is such a great passive, especially for a warrior, because crowd control effects (Stuns, Taunts, Fears, Intoxicate, and Mesmerize) would no longer affect Tyr if the effect last longer than 1 second.
Part one of Tyr's signature combo, with this ability he dashes forward but this ability changes effects depending on the stance you're in.
In Assault Stance, you hit the target caught in the dash twice and knock them up in the process.
In Guard Stance, you just normally dash through all enemies and minions hitting them once.
The second part to his combo, this ability strikes everything in front of him in a 180-degree cone but the effect can change depending on the stance.
In Assault Stance, you deal damage plus if the target is knocked up they are pushed back in the directing you're facing.
In Guard Stance, you heal for each enemy hit, up to three, and it doubles on the first target hit.
A simple stance switch, but like most stance switchers, it also has a passive effect depending on the stance you're in.
Assault Stance gives you more physical power.
Guard Stance gives you more physical and magical protections.
A simple but very effective ability. Tyr leaps in the air and slams down in the targeted area doing a large AoE damage This is great for closing the gap or getting away. What makes this ability even better is that it also slows any target in the circle so it can set you up again for another juggle combo if those abilities are off cooldown.

Tips, Tricks, & Combo

- Your Combo is Important
Do you know that Juggle Combo I've been saying throughout this whole guide? Yeah, I'm not kidding, this is Tyr's best form of damage. If you're going to use your abilities, make sure you'll be able to have them off cooldown when the enemy decides to engage you.

- Positioning is Key
Knowing when to engage in a golden opportunity is what separates the bad from the good Tyr players. Planning and positioning yourself to get them into the Juggle Combo is not going to be easy, so play a mind game or get the jump on them fast enough before they have time to realize what you're about to do.

Juggle Combo
Start off with Lawbringer or Blink Rune, depending on which one is up first or if you do or don't want to use either, then when you're in position (be sure to be in Assault Stance before going any further), line yourself up with the enemy at the nearest wall or in the range of your tower and proceed to hit them with the old 1-2.

Stages of the Game

Early Game
This is where Tyr is both very weak and very strong, you need to wait it out until you get a point or two into your 1 and 2 until you can make a move on the opponent. In the start Tyr is a tank but lacks the damage, by your time by farming for gold and XP until you get enough for the Juggle Combo.
Middle Game
Tyr is so-so in this stage as he still is a tank but now hits a wee bit harder than in the Early game. At this point, you should be getting your cooldown items online so your abilities go online quicker.
Late Game
This is where Tyr really starts taking off, not only will he be tankier than before but now he hits like a truck. Fight the enemy and keep them off the objectives if possible or engage on an easy target if you think you can kill them.

In Conclusion

Tyr is one of the best warriors in the game. His damage, crowd control, and tankiness makes him a constant threat throughout the game (especially during late). Always remember to judge where you are from the enemy to set up for the Juggle Combo, make the enemy decide if they want to surrender as their final verdict, if not act as the executioner if they resist.

Hey Stuke,

Just one thing to comment, it's missing a point on Change Stance at level 16 ;)

Stuke99 (41) | March 3, 2019 8:29am
Fixed it

Not bad, though you are missing a lot of smaller details about Tyr, its a good build for a tank/mild bruiser build but your damage won't really be there to be a threat, and if your team isn't paying attention, your peels won't matter. Enemies will ignore you and just go for your back line cause you don't really do much dmg with this build, though your sustain is there, you're relying on stone of gaia to heal you, but that only works under certain instances, and anti heal is tyr's bane, but its still a good build to get used to tyr with.

Can we not repeat the same song and dance that ruined my Guan Yu guide. I would appreciate it.

Idk what anyones win rate has to do with it? One never mentioned his win rate or ever said it was a bad build, read my comment again. Also kills aren't what matters, and i barely play conquest, usually do my 1 a day and head to ranked joust or arena. Also how do you know he plays less, alot of times i leave smite and other stuff running while at work or school? Your job, can multifaceted as a warrior. So instead of attacking my win rate or my kills, why not comment on what I pointed out as downsides to this specific build which can be changed, isn't that the point of a discussion board? you know to discuss the build? No one here has really discussed it, just said oh its good or how credible stuke is. I am pointing out downsides to the build, your comment serves no purpose in trying to improve upon what stuke has presented. Furthermore my conquest time, doesn't trump my time spent playing tyr and understanding how he works. Like the comment "smaller things" i made, is about team work and how best to utilize his abilities. Do you have anything to add to the discussion, that may help improve other peoples experience playing tyr and bettering this build? or is that as good as it gets?

Tyr isn't an assassin, he is a warrior played in solo lane. The most damage he can use is Warrior Tabi and either Void Shield or Masamune.
Zagbok | May 11, 2018 7:32am
oh how wrong you are.

Just gave Tyr a try with your advice and build. Got put up against a Chaac. Early game was he'll. Chaac straight leveled his 1 and it was eating me for dinner. HOWEVER, things quickly changed once I leveled a bit and my jungler (Fenrir, oh the irony) stepped up his game. From there on it was a cake walk, my combo would steal half his life and make him run. the telephoto relic was a brilliant idea. As long as minions weren't targeting me was useful as both an entry and escape, basically giving him a second ultimate to use. Enemy surrendered before I got into late game sadly.
Digmas | March 25, 2017 4:42am
Well I followed up with another Tyr game, it did not go well. I learned quickly that Tyr is a team player. Most gods in end game are simply going to shrug off Tyr; he hasn't enough punch with this build. Also I was up against a Hel. She can completely stop your juggle with an ability. When coupled with a Chaac (cause that's my luck) getting away is neigh impossible.
masterricu (12) | February 1, 2017 5:19pm
Didnt they say they were going to nerf gladiator's shield to proc every 10 seconds?
Branmuffin17 (280) | January 26, 2017 4:06pm
Well, figure I'll comment on the guide.

Solid as always with the build, and of course you know Tyr way better than I do...I can't stand playing him, which means maybe I need to invest some time.

That said, I always feel like you have more tips you could give in all of your guides, but I tend toward the overly wordy side. Maybe stating situations where you might choose alternate items would be good. Anyway, your guides are nice, simple, and to the point. +1
nikvundle (3) | January 26, 2017 1:35pm
wow this is just...just like my guide, i dunno why people like this more than mine ?
Zilby (132) | January 27, 2017 11:12am
  1. Time spent on the site, since Stuke's been around forever we all know him so the general community will notice his guides more quickly
  2. Credibility from other guides, since Stuke's made many other quality guides people will have a higher opinion of his guide making in general
Some other good ways to get more views and recognition is to make more guides and link them together, I barely got any views until I had 4-5 guides up on the site doing this. Making quality release guides for new gods ASAP also gets a lot of views since there's literally no competition for them. Your guide is good though, but you should fix your skill order. Idk how to put 7 points into power cleave lol.
Technotoad64 (45) | January 27, 2017 5:44am
Because Stuke is a veteran. People see that colored nametag and immediately assume higher credibility.
xZeroStrike (46) | January 26, 2017 1:43pm
Well, I believe the main factor here would be that Stuke99 is a bit more well-known around the place. With most new guides just being a build with 1 sentence saying "hey here's my build have fun", many tend not to bother checking them anymore, and only check guides from sources they know is informative / trustworthy / helpful.

Another thing is that while the BB-coding style and the information that is presented is fairly equal, the builds still differ, which is another huge factor to this.

Alas, I don't know why you think this guide is more popular than yours. Yours still has more views, and votes shouldn't be something you should hold on to, since the vote system is a bit... well, it's a bit "ehh..." you know what I'm sayin'?

Anyway, if you want to draw more attention to your guide, try some subtle, fitting advertising.
With this I don't mean to go spam your guide everywhere or to create a topic saying "yo here's my guide check plezz". Instead what I'm saying is that say somebody asks for help playing Tyr, you come in and say "perhaps check out my guide, it contains a huge amount of info about tyr and how to play him. Hope it helps you out!", that'll do some for you.

Another thing is to update your guide. Then it shows up in the "updated" list on the starter page and may get some more attention.

Don't think this guide is "more liked" because of whatever made you think that. Both guides are very good and still hold their own uniqueness to them.
Branmuffin17 (280) | January 26, 2017 1:56pm
This also follows along with the main vibe of the rest of Stuke's guides...very similar in structure, and he specializes in Warriors, and has multiple guides for that class.

Thanks for making this guide. I've been trying to work on playing Tyr better, being as he is one of the few Warriors I can't play well, and I needed a solid build as well as relics. I appreciate you creating this guide.
RonPerlas (3) | January 9, 2017 6:08pm
It's good enough for danky montage, but sadly that is a standard build for every warriors. I also use them don't get me wrong. However I do sell breastplate of valor later in game for Mantle of Discord.
aGoodDabbleDoYa (1) | January 6, 2017 12:04pm
Warrior Tabi - Why is there no need for explanation As to why every God needs this item? I disagree, across almost the entire board.
Branmuffin17 (280) | January 6, 2017 2:00pm
Okay, I get the response now.

Knowing Stuke, I think this is a case of 1) laziness, and 2) assuming that most people generally understand that for Tyr, Warrior Tabi is absolutely the type of boots he should get. He's generally catering to people who already know the game and get the basics. As for "all gods" he probably means either Warriors in general, or this is the same wording he's used from a long time ago before Ninja Tabi got buffed with the extra mana and higher attack speed. Just my guess.

Personally (Stuke), I'd also like to see just a bit more explanation on why Warrior over Ninja or whatever, just to help out newer players understand why this is the obvious choice...but you know me and how I love words.
overld1 (17) | January 6, 2017 1:57pm
Warrior Tabi is one of the most used item for warriors because the insane power spike you get early game and the movement speed.
