Hou Yi fires a powerful shot that can ricochet off of walls. After firing, if this arrow bounces off of a wall it will travel 70 units from that point and gain +40% bonus damage to gods per bounce up to a maximum of 2 bounces. This arrow will stun if the target has Mark of the Golden Crow.

Hou Yi marks an enemy with Mark of the Golden Crow. Marked enemies take extra damage for every 10% of their missing health from Hou Yi's abilities and basic attacks. Also, marked enemies, including stealthed gods, are visible to Hou Yi on the minimap. The mark lasts for 10s.

Hou Yi launches into the air, and for a short time may target some distance away to quickly dive towards the ground damaging any enemies in the immediate area. If the target has Mark of the Golden Crow they are knocked back.

Hou Yi shoots nine arrows into the sky, striking one sun with each arrow. The nine suns come crashing down one by one, slowing and dealing damage in a target area over time. A target with Mark of the Golden Crow will have their movement speed slowed by an additional 20%.

Introduction

Hi! This is my build that I like to do in Casuals/Ranked/Scrims for Hou Yi!

Items

When the game begins you start our with Death's Toll and Short Bow with 1 potion of each.
As the game progresses you will build Short Bow into Ichavial.Ichavial gives you a decent amount of damage, and makes it so that you can fight the other ADC at all times early game. Then Ninja Tabi after you're Ichavial will give you movement speed, and some base damage. I prefer Ninja Tabi, but you can go either boots, depending on which you prefer and you're playstyle. Since every hunter NEEDS (Please never skip lifesteal.) a lifesteal item, you're gonna pick up a Soul Eater. The reason you'll be picking up soul eater is because it'll be too late to stack, so this will be your next item to build. After your Soul Eater is done, you'll build Executioner. After you have your Executioner you'll hit a power spike. This should be the time you look to fight! (Unless you or your team is really far behind.) After Executioner I would go for Crit. Rage is what I usually go for. It gives consistant Crit which is what you're looking for. Now... Usually most hunter players would build Deathbringer after Rage, But I believe that Titans Bane is better on Hou Yi. The reason being that with your 2 giving 25% pen and Executioner giving you 24% Pen (WITH the base Flat Pen) adding a Titans 33% Pen, gives you 82% Pen, plus the base pen from executioner. Basically making you do (Almost) true damage to your marked target!

Skills

Your Skills will be 1>2>3>4. You're 1 gives you wave clear and good damage. Also hitting a triple bounce will be deadly. You're 2 will give you pen/extra damage, and also a really good passive once its rank 3. The reason why I level every other ability over my ult is because my ult only gains 20 damage every rank (Isn't Much) and is hard to secure more then 2 ticks.

Creeping / Jungling

NEVER TRY TO TRIPLE BOUNCE BUFFS. (Unless it's the purple on Order side.) Which is an easy bounce on the side. You could try to triple bounce buffs, but honestly it's not worth it. It's too hard to get every shot off without the buff walking out. (Unless you're tanking it, then you'll take too much poke off the buff itself.) Double bouncing it by shooting it straight is faster, and you'll get 3 more autos off, which will be the same amount (Or about) of damage as the triple bounce.

Personally I think the build should basically be as it is, but I'd swap Titans bane for db. That's the usual soul eater build.

the pen debate is more about executioner being in the build (which isn't a good choice overall for the 25% or the 33% from mark or titan's effectiveness.)

I didn't mean "ability based" as you'd go with a warrior, but more ability-oriented like Medusa or Neith compared to Apollo or Rama that are "more" AA gods.

Regarding the penetration debate, I'd still go for Jotunn's Wrath, with Mark of the Golden Crow and probably The Executioner that's already a lot of penetration.

None of the hunters should really be played as ability based gods unless they're playing in another lane :/
You can go ability based for Neith pretty well in casuals, but in ranked or higher play it's not viable since you won't be able to take down towers/gf/firegiant/phoenixes/titans as quickly as you would otherwise. (assuming you're the adc and not the solo laner, etc).

Hou Yi's abilities aren't nearly as strong as Neith's so considering that Neith can barely get by as an ability based god, I don't think Hou Yi stands much of a chance. Ricochet's buff basically just makes his laning phase better, it doesn't mean you should build around it late game.

As for the pen debate, Hou Yi is weird about that since his Mark of the Golden Crow gives 25% penetration at rank 5. Titan's Bane would be better for taking out towers and such in terms of pen, but The Crusher would do that even better with the added benefit of being more effective on squishies. Tbh though, a constant 58% penetration with Mark of the Golden Crow + Titan's Bane is pretty solid in any situation.

Hi guys,

Ricochet being buffed (decreased cooldown); should Hou Yi be played as an ability based god now? I mean, this buff is huge.
I'm not sure that the buff on Divebomb has the same impact as you'll probably keep maxing this item last.

Anyway, I'd probably get into Hou Yi once the patch reaches Xbox One, so I'd like your opinion about the "new" build that would fit best! :)
If we go ability based, I guess Transcendence, Warrior Tabi and Soul Eater is always a safe start!

Also I noticed some more mistakes in the pen part as you take The Executioner and then at the end you say plus the base pen from The Executioner (which doesn't exist) I think you meant the pen from ichiaval

Soul Eater is meh on this build. Bloodforge would work well with the bow, or Asi.

To quote from I think Zilby (if it isnt Im sorry), but percent penetration does not work well with flat penetration (reduces protections by 10 or 15, stuff like that). So it really is one or the other. Deathbringer is typical to see on an adc (traditional but it works). Also its more complicated then that. Auras, natural defenses, health pool, regen, and stuff like that. You wont do true damage.

Sunbreaker is not THAT BAD. CC man. You have a stun. You have a support. Hell even the mage and jungler has cc. Everyone does (dont quote me on that). It deters enemies, but with lower damage they wont care about it and walk right through.
