The Great and Powerful Hades

Introduction

I have always enjoyed playing tanks that have the power to outlast the thickest of fight and be a great asset to the team. When I first saw Hades I recognized how much potential he had being a ranged tank with; an escape mechanism, fear, heal as well as a good amount of crowd control from his ultimate. I have been playing Hades in arena for a while trying to unlock his full potential as a valuable tank and support god. I hope this god guide for Hades helps you dominate as a champion of the gods.

This is a guide so you can play how you wish and any comments and/or suggestions on this build would be much appreciated.

MY FIRST BUILD SO ALL CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED!!

Pros / Cons

PROS

  • High sustain if you utalize passive
  • Has great crowd control
  • Very good initiator
  • Good farmer
  • Has a blink for escapes
  • Penetration is ineffective against health build

CONS

Items

Starting Items

Mark of the Vanguard has bean under speculation for me that when it comes down to a starter item for Hades. But it all comes down to this simple but powerful passive that allows him to tank early game minions and jungle camps with little to no damage taken. That gives him his much needed early game tankiness and is a very plausible starter item for the undead tank of Arena... Hades. (And don't forget about the added health and protection)

Shoes of Focus are great boots on Hades as they give him the extra edge on all of his strategy in game. One advantage to shoes of focus are there CDR which allow Hades to better support the team in fights and chases. Also these boots give a fair amount of MP giving his heals more effect and giving Hades higher sustain. This CDR and MP gives this ultimate tank a little edge on the enemy team and the ability to support your own.
midas boots

Watcher's Gift enables Hades to gain the gold as Hades job in arena is not to kill the minions, but to let the team get stacks this item lets Hades share the gold benefit from minions. midas boots gives Hades all the gold per 5 a god of riches could ask for, enabling him to get Sovereignty and Bulwark of Hope sooner. (The extra gold is very nice in Arena because your items will be completed sooner)
Gold = God of Hidden Riches :)
Core to the Build

Sovereignty And Bulwark of Hope

One of the big stats that is essential for Hades being an effective tank is health and the balance of HP and protections. Sovereignty has a well balanced passive that provides an extra 20 protections to you and nearby allies. Bulwark of Hope is the perfect balance of magical protection and health, with the added passive that increases survive ability at low health. These two items are core to the build because they maximize your total effective health by increasing you protection and health so that you receive maximum damage mitigation.
magi's blessing

magi's blessing is the ultimate Crowd Control Elimination item! When you are sitting there listening for the right moment to strike and a Ares blinks at you and ults magi's blessing will be there to save you. When you get frozen by Ymir at low health magi's blessing will be there to set you free. So in summation this item will save you from being stunned or controlled because magi's blessing will always be there.

Ethereal Staff is the perfect end game item for Hades giving him loads of health and a passive that gives him more MP based on HP. Getting this item will allow you to tank and utilized your maximum effective health!
Now just to make sure you understand what this item will do to Hades i will say it plane and simple. You will become the undead tank of

Arena!!!

Situational replacements for starter items

After purchasing all of the items listed in this build you will need to sell Mark of the Vanguard and replace it with a more suitable items...

witch stone

witch stone Is a great item if you are facing fed physical carries, which tands to hapen a lot in casual arena matches. The passive will shut down most physicals fairly well giving your team the chance to get some payback them. I would recommend getting witches stone in two cases:

  1. If the enemy has 3 or more physical gods on their team.
  2. If a god like Mercury is destroying your team and being a nuisance.

Divine Ruin is an item that will shut down enemy healers like Aphrodite or Hel . I would suggest getting this item if the enemy has 1 or 2 designated healers that are getting lots of counter heals in. If your not satisfied with the healing reduction given by Pestilence than Divine Ruin is the perfect closing item for you.

If you are facing a fairly standard team with 3 magical and 2 physical and a mage is giving your team a hard time Void Stone dose a great gob at getting mages exposed for your team to pummel. Good all around ending item with magical protections and power to give you a late game edge on the enemy team.

Spear of the Magus is a extremely fun item on Hades. This item and Pillar of Agony will allow your team to destroy all the unlucky souls that get trapped in it. This item is the knife that kits the enemies protections away so nothing can protect them any more. I suggest getting this item if you are feeling pretty confident about the enemy team and want to have a fun and killer end to the match.

Actives

Shell of Absorption is the perfect item for Hades the undead tank. 1st of all I would like to inform you on how I first came to discover the perfect active for this ultimate tank. After many hours of playing Hades in arena I was constantly being let down by the fact that I would always die after pulling my first ult of the game because everyone would plop there ability's on me and I was dead. Well this was very frustrating because that would result in more and more deaths and a loss for my team. But then my brother (Icy133) informed me of an item that he was wondering whether it would work under Hades ult or not. That item was the one and only Shell of Absorption. The significance of this shell that would mitigate 15% damage and grant me and my allies 45 protection was ground breaking. I had found an item that did indeed work under Hades ult granting him tremendous increase in protections and damage mitigation making him unkillable during his ultimate. Now also bare in mind that Hades also gains protections when activating his ult. The protections added from his ult and those of Shell of Absorption make him an unkillable Pillar of Agony. With Hades 90 second ult cool-down and Shell of Absorption's cool-down of 90 seconds they are a perfect match!

I get tier 3 Shell of Absorption just before I hit level 5 so that on my first ult, my protections can be TRIPLED with the use of this active and the passive of Hades ult Pillar of Agony.

Weakening Curse is the item that should be used to...
    Initiate team fights
Save fleeing allies from mob of angry kill hungry gods
slow fleeing gods that are either fed or tanks that need to die (eliminate the competition :)
use before ult if bunch of gods grouped up so they cannot flee away from your ult
Highly effective item for cursing the battlefield of Arena so no God can escape Hades wrath!

I purchase Weakening Curse after finishing off my boots.

Skills

Blight
Hades passive is Blight, which is applied to enemies hit by his basic attack. When it comes down to basic attacking enemies in order to apply Blight, it is highly situationally, using this passive to maximize Hades effectiveness in arena is something that should be look at with each of his abilities as each complements his passive in a different way.

Death From Below
Death From Below is Hades main utility ability, allowing him to blink into action and reek havoc on the enemy team. Now we can look situationally at Blight as it applies to Death From Below. If in some cases if you are not in the middle of a team and you and any number of people on your team are focusing an enemy, utilizing Hades passive by getting a basic attack on the enemy, applying blight, then use Death From Below to apply a slow. This HIGHLY effective slow should not be underestimated but should be only utilized when you are positive that you will be safe temporarily with-ought an escape. This slow should be utilized when harassing the enemy team, saving fleeing gods and focusing an individual god. Oh, by the way i forgot to mention that Death From Below applies Blight. So when you are initiating or harassing hit as many gads as possible with Death from bellow so that your abilities can dominate the battlefield.

Shroud of Darkness
Fear me! yep its time to talk about Hades bread and butter ability Shroud of Darkness. Silencing is nice but always try to get the FEAR. You can accomplish this three different ways:
  1. basic attack the enemy and then use Shroud of Darkness to get the FEAR.
  2. use Death From Below on group of enemies, then use Shroud of Darkness and get a GROUP FEAR.
  3. basic attack enemy use Death From Below to slow, basic attack them wile they are slowed to apply Blight, them use Shroud of Darkness to get the ULTIMATE FEAR!

Devour Souls
This is Hades main damage output ability that dose damage around you. If enemy's that are hit by this ability are blighted then enemy's heal you and surrounding allies. This is the ability that I max first because it is my main damaging and support ability. It is a great ability for clearing minion waves and getting a full heal in.

Pillar of Agony
Hades ultimate is a very strong source of crowd control by pulling in enemy's closer to him. If enemy's are blighted than pillar of agony reduces their protections. I put levels on Pillar of Agonywhenever possible. Hades ult can also be used to initiate team fights as well as pull in enemy's who are chasing down allies low on health. Remember that Pillar of Agony can grant up to 80 protections making him an a GOD to which is unkillible by any!

Strategy

ESCAPING/ INITIATING
Utilizing Hades's Death From Below in order to initiate or escape is an art of combat in arena.
  1. The first of the arts that must be mastered in escaping and initiating is utilizing ones surroundings.

Use pillars and walls to your advantage by disappearing trough a wall or apearing out of thin air from behind a pillar. The art of surprise is a great way to catch the enemy team off guard and get your passive Blight on loads of gods before bringing the hurt. Also when being chased try to use Death From Below in a way to loose or confuse by going through walls or pillars when possible. If the enemy team dose not see you they wont suspect an ult.

Credits

Much of this core Hades build was based off of Grimskull's killer Bacchus build. The ability to work on getting the highest damage mitigation possible out of a tank is one that I strive to achieve with Hades in this build. So much thanks to all of the comments and support I have received helping me to achieve the all powerful arena Hades build.

Summery: My build is showing off Grimskull's amazing build for maximizing health as it applies to Hades. It is one lover of tanks spreading the ability for ultimate Damage Mitigation. And I am individualizing this build from others by demonstrating strategy, active ability use, and more item descriptions as it applies to Hades being an amazing tank in arena.

(Just want to make that point clear) :)

Thanks again for the support,
Rozart

Very nice guide, I started using your item build and I've been loving it so far. I adapt here and there to get some more physical protection or magical protection, depending on who's doing more damage on the enemy team.

I also just made a guide for Hades Arena and I gave you credit for the item build! ;D

I am wondering if you've ever built more damage for Hades? I haven't tried that and I am curious.

Thank you for the helpful info, i will change and rework my skill section which weak compared to the rest of the build. My goal is to add as much info as I can to make a helpful resource for fellow Hadesplayers. Whether that is considered a guide or build only is beyond me i am only trying to share my experiences playing Hades.

Well thanks for the help and I will make those changes as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Rosart

Do build-only guides require skill explanations? I'm confused.

Build

Very solid build. Too bad it isn't yours. But it has flexibility, which is good. The gold-gain one seems odd though, since in Arena every has a ****load of gold gain anyway.

Items

Very good. Extremely good. The best part of the guide.

Skills

Very poorly explained. You don't say how/when to use them. I would advise adding them.

Guiding

None. But it's a build only guide. Not sure what to expect here.

Details

Good BBC coding, nice images, easy to read.

Summary

I guess it's okay...? I mean, it's build only. I guess it's a good build-only guide, except for the lack of skill explanations. Do build-only guides require skill explanations? I'm confused.

Hades is one of the great tanks, I quite enjoy the style of this guide (build whatever) not only because you are my brother, but because it looks pretty sexy!

Thanks for the comments what I am trying vary hard to do is give a lot of credit to Grimskull because yes he NAILED IT when it comes down to total effective health. His build gives the best survive ability a tank can have, and it feels perfect for Bacchus and Hades. What I want to make clear is that the purpose of this guild is demonstrating how to effectively utilize this build hand in hand with the actives that are shown in my build to play the most effective Hades arena tank out there.

I am hoping to make that more clear in my guide as well as better explanation of items, strategy and utilization of actives to individualized this guide.

When it comes down to building Hades as more of a mage, I see an empty tank role that is not being filled. I love tanks and that why this is a tank guide but I will play around with some damaging play styles as suggested to experience Hades to the fullest.

Thank you all again for your continued constructive criticism and support this is my first guide so all the help is greatly appreciated :)

Agree, if the build looks similar it's because it do work, if the guide author actually explained his items choices, i see no problem at all.

I must say that the guide format is fine, and actually pretty good. I don't see the problem with the build being similar to someone else's build for a tank, certain gods share similar builds. As an example, most people use Focused Voidblade on a Bruiser, therefore there is no reason to ''This is just a copy of *someonelsehere* build downvoted''.

And something I really like on the guide is the way you explain the items and skills, similar to my way of.

Have you ever tried Pure Damage Hades, with some Lifesteal? What's your opinion about it? I think it's pretty fun.

Guide looks good, i'll just point a little formatting mistake at the "starter items" section that is really grinding my gears. The first column looks a little higher than the others, you can fix that by taking a little bit of text from it or adding a little bit of text on the others.
Keep up the good work :)

Okay, the build is weird, but it works.

I understand that this is a build only guide. In that respect, this guide is still incomplete, the items section conflicts with the presented build (reinforced greaves???), and there are a whole lot of things still unfinished.

Downvote, needs more polishing and needs to be completed, but I'll check in on this in a few days.
