I'll believe it when I see it, and I probably won't see it because I ain't about to watch a show of loli's at nineteen years old, no matter how intense the plot is.
Actually, it's a a psychological thriller. Aren't those 'right up your alley'? :3
Also, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is another psychological thriller I recently learnt about.
"Watching Higurashi is like locking a group of happy people in a test chamber, only coming back to find they've hacked each other into a bloody mess. Its horrific, its shocking, and yet a part of you, cannot help but wonder, how did it happen?" -A review
If so, yes, I have gotten up to that point, and even though currently being portrayed as an antagonist, I find myself rooting for her every time her and Sayaka fight.
I'm guessing you like cynical characters who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty?
Hmm, more so the mature, logical characters that are not afraid to express their ideals when they truly know they're right.

Yeah, I know sacrificing people for your personal gain is bad, but it makes sense. But the thing is, she knows when and when not to fight. Sayaka irritated me when she continued to fight out of her own pride.
Sakura is nor my favourite character, but I simply like her more than Sayaka as of right now.
"I'm an ally to the calm, and an enemy to those who fight for no reason."
Hence, why Homura is currently my favourite character.
She fits the mature character role of the series and joins the ranks of my other favourite characters from other series, such as Sakagami Tomoyo, Kawashima Ami, Takanashi Touka and Makise Kurisu, all characters who are mature and see the logical reality as opposed to the idealistic reality.
Idealism is eaten alive by this series. Literally, in OH MY GOD NAME SPOILER NO LOOKY FOR YOU case.
Highlight to see spoilers.
Indeed, this series shows that creating your idealistic reality is impossible as it will always have negative drawbacks, but that is shown through the characters having an idealistic reality without knowing the drawbacks.
The ones that know this and have accepted this, I tend to like more.
Except Madoka. **** Madoka. The weak, crying girl is the one anime girl stereotype that I just hate, see Furukuwa Nagisa.

I didn't like her either...at first. But there is a LOT, with a capital L, O, and T, of character development.

Speaking of things I don't like... The character designs. Holy ****, why does it look like the doctor grabbed everyone's heads too hard at childbirth and now they're stuck with deformed skulls for life? It's a unique art-style, I will admit, but it is not one that I like. It does get the job done I suppose.
I mean, the animation is good.

A lot of the scenes look absolutely gorgeous (I'm looking at you, witch fight scene in episode 7) Also, I don't know if my brightness is way too high, but I can see this perfectly fine even without highlighting, so my sincerest of apologies in advance if you too can actually read this and it;s spoiling most of the series for you.
"If you feel like dying for this universe, just call us! We'll be waiting!"
It's official, my new favourite quote of all time. I just cracked up so hard at that line. I don't know if it was meant to be as humorous as I found it to be, but tit was the first time I laughed in the series.
Huh, definitely not the ending I was looking for or expecting. I mean, it's a nice ending to say the least, all that 'Madoka's legacy' thingy being carried on through Homura was really, well, really lovely (**** my arse, it seems I've been resorting to the word lovely a lot recently).
Still, the touching and sad moments didn't hit the mark for me unfortunately. Sorry to say this, but the episodes your said to prepare for, episodes 3 and 11, did not make me tear, heck, they were far from it. This probably is due to the fact that I generally tear out of joy and the sheer beauty of a storyline as opposed to heart-aching misfortune, but that still doesn't change the fact that people do tear out of misfortune and depression. (Although what I just said is not always true, with two exceptions that I can think of, but I generally tear more/easier when it's joy) Since I really want to clarify this, using a series basically everyone has watched, in Clannad: After Story, I teared in the train ride back home from the sunflower place, but did not tear during Nagisa's death.
Still, even though I will admit that the themes presented in Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica were really strong, strong themes alone do not make a good series. (Apologies for digressing here, but a very recent example of this is the movie 47 Ronin, where everyone in my family thought 47 Ronin was fantastic... Except for me. When I asked them why they thought it was good, they said it was because it had such deep themes that I won't go into for spoilers, but it's been done in Angel Beats already. Clearly, this is an obvious indication of my family's primitive taste in movies, as they clearly did not see it as the uninspired, 'done-to-death' samurai movie that, to use one of my favourite quotes, was about as Japanese as a grocery store California Roll. But yeah, I'm digressing really hard here).
Now, I'm not saying the themes were presented badly in this series, because the themes were actually put through pretty well. It was more so the other 'things', for a lack of better term, that caused me to not see Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica for the masterpiece that most people saw it out to be. Now, the thing is, my only gripes with it were really just personal things. Depressing scenes just left me with a neutral feeling, but that is mainly due to the fact that the kind of depression they were aiming for is not one that I found all too particularly sad. The second one was that for most of the series, I disliked the early main protagonists, mainly referring to Sayaka and Madoka. But, considering how similar Madoka is to Nagisa Furukuwa, and considering how over-loved Nagisa is, I don't think this was a problem for most people. I mean, if it was the case, then this would not be considered a masterpiece by a lot of the people that watch it.
Ok, now for the more personal opinionated rant. If you haven't watched it yet and you're reading this, I suggest you stop now.
The particular focus of this will be...
Kyubey.
He reminds me of, call me crazy, the titans from Shingeki no Kyojin. Okay, here me out here. The titans kill people, they're evil, in the sense of 'the absence of good'. But, they are not evil in the sense that they will freely commit moral sin. It is simply venial sin, as they do not have full knowledge of what they are doing. But you see, normal titans do not kill with the intention to kill. They kill with the intention to eat, so really, they do not know that they are killing people, they are just eating. I mean, this happens in our real world as well, basic year 7 science, it's just a food chain. And while humans are at the top in our modern world, it is clear that titans are in their world, so it is only natural for humans to be eaten.
Kyubey sacrifices innocent, young virgins just like the ancient Aztecs. Semi-sarcastic remarks aside, it was clear that when this entropy **** started, that Kyubey, whatever species of extraterrestrial being he may be, was not aware of human values. He does not realise that us humans, well, the sane and logical humans, recognise everyone as a separate entity or being, and everyone is precious and valuable (PREACH IT **********ER! All this seemingly useless **** that I learn from religion class is finally getting some use). So, once again, the lack of full knowledge that what is being done is a sin means that this isn't moral sin, or true sin. However, if this religion ******** is making you irritated, then let's look at it from a sane man's society perspective. If Kyubey, assuming this is the American justice system, where people are just desperate to press charges on people and pull the trigger (#ShotsFired) that they actually resorted to pressing charges against a rabbit, Kyubey's reasoning, that he was collecting energy from post-pubescent pre-pubescent loli girls because it created emotional energy or something like that, charges could not be pressed because he considers himself as doing god's work, and anyone who does god's work is clearly bat**** insane with a mental illness, and full charges can not be presssed.
Ok, that's it for my rant on Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica.
