Version History

0.2: Added additional bbcoding, thanks to the guys on the forums for the help. Also added links to my other guides.
0.1: Copied the layout from my other guide. Added introduction, build and jungle route, skills and matchups chapters. Added BBcoding and general formatting. Yes I spend too much time on this at once.

Introduction

Hey all,
Welcome to my guide for Thor, The God of Thunder.
There are many guides just like it, but this one is mine.
I have put a lot of time and effort into this guide, trying to give you, the reader and player of this awesome game and job, a better understanding about Thor and how to build him.

Thor is a top tier jungler in Smite. He dominated Season 1 and so far he continues to dominate Season 2. This is due to his amazing skillset, which consists of great mobility, a stun, area of effect damage and a global ultimate. All of this is packed in a beefy god that scales really well throughout the game, both in damage and hp/resistances, allowing you to build him sort of as a bruiser while maintaining a menace in teamfights due to his passive Warrior's Madness, which just SCREAMS 'team fight god'

Above is pretty much an alt-tab guide, and I will explain my reasoning below.
I do however suggest that you read through the entire guide, as again, I have put a lot of time and effort into this, and also the alt-tab guide is useless if you don't know WHY you are skilling the way you are or buying the items you are buying.

Constructual critisism is welcome, bashing however is not.

Items

Start:
Start with Bumba's Mask, Rage of the Gods, Healing Potion and a Ward
The reason we get Rage of the Gods is because of the 60 second cooldown over the 90 second cooldown on Hand of the Gods, sllowing us to clear our jungle faster.

Important note:
GET A Ward EVERY TIME YOU GO BACK TO UPGRADE YOUR ITEMS (or around every 3 minutes).
This will help your team more than you can imagine. Use it to ward enemy buffs, unwarded chokepoints or gold fury/fire giant. (note: this is assuming duo has put double wards and mid and solo have at least 1 up at all times).

Midgame:
Warrior Tabi for the raw physical damage output over attack speed. Most of your damage comes from either Mjolnir's Attunement and Berserker Barrage, so you don't need attack speed.

Jotunn's Wrath is a standard jungler item, giving you some physical power, mana, penetration and some much needed cooldown reduction, reducing the cooldown on Anvil of Dawn and thus reducing the time between your ganks.

By the time you finish Shifter's Shield, team scrimmages should be starting to happen around towers and gold fury. Shifter's Shield gives you a bit of damage and a bit of tankyness, allowing you to stay in the fight longer, while Warrior's Madness makes sure your physical damage output doesn't suffer.

Titan's Bane is a cheap item that allows your Mjolnir's Attunement and Berserker Barrage to keep doing decent damage with the penetration.

Lategame:
Depending on who or what you face, you build reactive. That's just how Thor (and most other bruisers) works)

Bulwark of Hope is one of the best magic defense items in the game, and is great against someone like Freya, or if your mid lane lost pretty hard.

Witchblade might not be the most popular item out there, but for someone like Thor] who usually initiates fights, reducing your enemies' attack speed and phyical power with Witchblade's Aura, is quite great. Combine that with decent physical protection, and this becomes a really good item if the enemy hunter or jungler got out of hand.

Magi's Blessing is yet another item that gives both physical and magical defense, and cancels 1 CC. This allows you to keep up with your enemies better, or keep disrupting the fight with Tectonic Rift. I would recommend always getting this, unless things went REALLY badly, or if the enemy team really lacks CC (which is usually not the case, concidering that almost every god in Smite has at least 1 CC)

Ultra lategame:
Be sure to buy a Potion of Physical Might every time it runs out/you die.
And if it gets really out of hand, an Elixir of Defense will help you dump your excessive gold and stay tanky when everyone is six-slotted.

Actives:
This all really depends on the game. if you face a lot of snares (or Ares!), get Greater Purification.
If you face a fed Nu Wa that does over 9000 damage with her ult, a Thanatos, a Thor, a Poseidon etc, get Greater Aegis to counter the ults.
Althought on Thor I have been having a blast popping Shield of the Underworld after initiating a fight with Anvil of Dawn.

WHEN to get your second active is also up to the game really. Usually when teamfights start to happen more often, it's good to get it as Thor, since you will probably have more abilities fired at you than most others in your team, so having that Greater Purification to slip away, Greater Aegis to block that Release The Kraken! or just that Shield of the Underworld to stop the lifesteal, and reflecting their damage back to them is just a lot of fun ^^

Damage build:
If you somehow manage to get like 10 0 0, in a game where the general score is 20 - 2, then going damage on Thor with Rage and Deathbringer is quite fun for once.
However this is not recommended if you want to play the initiator role I describe throughout the entire guide, this is just for ***** and giggles

Skills

Passive: Warrior's Madness
This is what makes Thor, Thor. You gain 15 physical power for every god in a 30 unit radius (your berserker rage is 20 units, just for reference), up to 3 gods, so up to 45 physical power. Just as a reference, Deathbringer has the highest flat physical increase of the game, at 50 physical power, so 45 from your passive is A LOT.
This is also the reason we build Thor as a bruiser, his passive gives him a lot of damage anyway.

1: Mjolnir's Attunement
Thor throws his hammer. Either you teleport to where it is at that point, which is great for escapes, skipping corner or hopping through walls to cut someone off, or you let it come back. If it hits on the way back you do 50% damage against minions but 200% against gods. So let's say your front throw did 100 damage, when it comes back, it does 200.

2: Tectonic Rift
Thor smashes the earth open, creating a wall in a line, while stunning gods that get hit directly when he 'rends the earth'. This is used to stun enemies while cutting off their escape path.

3: Berserker Barrage
Not much to say. Spin to Win! Makes Thor immume for knocks for the duration.

4: Anvil of Dawn
This is your bread and butter, allowing you to gank (and later initiate teamfights) like a pro. Thor spins Mjlnir, taking flight, and crashing back down on your enemies, dealing (a very little bit) of damage, and stunning them. Follow up with Tectonic Rift, Mjolnir's Attunement while they are stuck behind the rift for the 300% damage, and then Spin to Win! (or just spin to win and keep mjolnir for an escape if you get counter ganked, or... or... or... so many options!)

Jungle route

Before you start reading, the timers in this are BEST CASE SCENARIO, and I just put way too much time into finding the perfect repeatable start.
So take this with a grain of salt, if your solo needs you longer, then stay longer. Did he die, defend his lane. If you can you finish off their mid, go kill him.

Start with your Solo laner at their side of the map (where the distance between the sidelane towers is smallest).

Start at the Speed camp. Open with Berserker Barrage and then use Rage of the Gods.
The reason I do it in this order, is because you take damage from all 3 creeps, then Rage of the Gods kills the 2 small ones, putting you back on maximum HP, and killing the big guy will put you back around 90-95% hp. If you start with Rage of the Gods you won't get the heal inbetween. It's a small difference in health, but it takes the exact same amount of time to kill them either way, so I rather have the extra HP.

Then move to their Mana buff, let them use their Hand of the Gods if they have it.
Stay in the solo lane until about 2.15. This gives you about level 4, maybe a kill if you are lucky, and enough time to do both of your back harpy camps before moving to mid camps (you should arrive around 2:50). This should give you level 5. Farm a little untill you can afford Warrior Tabi and go ganking.

After this point, there is no route. Around 6.10-6.20 the mid camps come back up, so that's a timer to watch. Other than that, gank, help people with buffs, or farm. Jungle is very reactionary.

Matchups

Being a tanky bruiser jungler, I don't feel that Thor has a lot of really hard counters.
So I'll just fill in what comes to mind, and add to this list when I get more feedback.

Athena can taunt you out of your Berserker Barrage. This can stop a lot of your damage, so make sure she either used it, or is stunned with Tectonic Rift.

Geb can cancel the stun of your Tectonic Rift and Anvil of Dawn with his Stone Shield. While it's not as bad as on some other gods cause you still have the artificial wall for a bit, it's still a nuisance.

Zhong Kui can interupt your Berserker Barrage with Book of Demons making him slightly harder to gank.

General counter jungling. This is not just for Thor but for every jungler, if you face an enemy jungler that has a good clear and good mobility, for example Bakasura, keep an eye out for him, chances are he will be in your jungle trying to deny your buffs.

Nice guide. I'm new in smite and Thor is one of my favorite god... well i haven't tried all the gods yet :P I assume this build is for jungling but i tried it for solo lane too. And it worked! I need to try jungling with this build too but i need to practice ganking. I need to try your tips.

And yes +1 from me.

This build looks pretty solid for a Thor player, and the guide itself looks great too.

I like this guide a lot, but it could probably use a few more alternatives to some of the non-core items in the build. While magi's blessing and a counter build item can be useful, there are instances where you'll face teams with little to know CC making beads more than enough to counter it, instances where you'll face balanced teams and may benefit more from Hydra's Lament's increased damage and cdr than a defense item, times when you can utilize Void Shield if the enemy team has a lot of physical gods but very few AA gods, and times when the enemy team is reliant on slows making Winged Blade's passive and CDR particularly useful.

Still, everything that IS here is solid, understandable and good advice. Could look a bit prettier with more bbcoding, but it's still fine as is.

+1 from me ^^

I like it, but you might change the Shifter's Shield with something more physical power heavy item, depending on the context and enemy types.

Awesome guide. I've never jungled in my life in any of the MOBAS that I've played. This definitely helped me break into the role pretty smoothly. Solid build advice too.

Thanks Metabreaker_United!
I've updated it a little bit with some icons and colors now.
The reason I get fist over hog3 is exactly that, your ult is a stun, stun again with wall, throw your hammer, then when it comes back, stun again with fist, and then spin to win. This makes sure you get your entire combo off while picking someone off.

Amazing guide! One of the best laid out guides I've seen in a while. My personal favorite build for Thor is warrior Tabi, jottunns wrath, hydras lament, shifters shield, Magis blessing, then defense for one stat or hide of the urchin if need be. It seems to work well and Magis helps avoid being interrupted by cc when stealing objectives. I prefer hog 3 instead of fist since your 2 is a stun, but it's users preference I guess. Your support will usually have hog 3 anyways.
I also like how you explain reasoning behind everything, such as explaining why Thor is sometimes built as a bruiser.
I also like how you give a few examples of possible counters and also a jungling route for the beginning. I main ADC in masters conquest so this jungling/Thor guide seems really helpful. Of course, I already know the basics of each role, but this is pretty good for a Thor-specific guide.
Good job! Upvote (my first in a while)
