Loki plays like a true assassin, in quickly to kill your target and out to kill another day. He has the tools to be an annoying menace that always squirms his way out of danger and pressure the enemy under tower all game. Loki can easily carry a game as long as you are equal or ahead of the enemy in gold and levels.
Passive
Behind You!
Key Bind: Passive
Loki deals more damage from his basic attacks when hitting enemies from behind. His basic attacks also utilize a five swing progressive chain.(1, .5, .5, .5, 1.5)
Ability Type: Buff
Bonus Damage: 20%
Try to land attacks on the enemies' backs as much as possible for bonus damage

Vanish
Key Bind: 1
Loki disappears in a puff of smoke. While invisible, he moves faster, removes and gains immunity to slow effects and takes 25% less damage. His next basic attack from stealth (or for 2s after) applies a bleed to his target, dealing damage every .5s and reveals Loki.
Ability Type: Melee Target
Damage per Tick: 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 / 90 (+25% of your Physical Power)
Maximum Damage: 120 / 180 / 240 / 300 / 360 (+100% of your Physical Power)
Damage Duration: 2s
Stealth Duration: 4s
Stealth Movement Speed: 35%
Cost: 70 / 75 / 80 / 85 / 90
Cooldown: 15s(8s at max CD)
Can be used to get out of bad situations but mainly used as an entry tool to sneak up and close space. The bleed damage will secure kills on slippy foes so it good to apply before engaging.

Decoy
Key Bind: 2
Loki spawns a decoy version of himself that taunts all nearby enemy minions. After a short time, the decoy explodes dealing damage to all enemies in the radius.
Ability Type: Pet
Damage: 90 / 140 / 190 / 240 / 290 (+100% of your Physical Power)
Decoy Lifetime: 3s
Radius: 20
Cost: 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80
Cooldown: 12s(7.2s Max CD)
Used for lane clear and backstabbing Jungle Mobs. Can also be used to distract tower and body block enemies and some abilities.

Aimed Strike
Key Bind: 3
Upon activation, Loki's next basic attack does additional damage within a short time. The enemy hit is also slowed.
Ability Type: Buff
Damage: 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+100% of your Physical Power)
Buff Lifetime: 5s
Slow: 25%
Slow Duration: 3s
Cost: 50
Cooldown: 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8s(4.8 Max CD)
Damage buff for your next basic attack and also resets attack chain upon activation. The attack chain reset allows you to animation cancel your first basic so you can burst more effectively. Before level 5 you should use hit n run tactics with 1 and 3 for poke damage and only keep attacking if your team has the team fight advantage.

Assassinate
Key Bind: 4
Upon activation, Loki teleports to his ground target location. If an enemy god is within the radius, Loki will backstab that target doing damage and stunning them.
Ability Type: Teleport
Damage: 150 / 225 / 300 / 375 / 450 (+120% of your Physical Power)
Stun: 1s
Cost: 100
Cooldown: 90s(54s Max CD)
Loki ultimate ability. It puts you in the perfect position to strike fear in your opponent.
Bread and Butter Combo
Use 1 into 4 into normal basic attack then after the basic attack lands immediately use 3 and basic attack until the target is dead. Usually the second basic will kill once you have Hydra's Lament and don't forget that your 1 applies a bleed.

I do agree with your start if you are going
Another thing, why no Tier 2 Trans start? Or is it because you feel you need the potions to avoid being pressured too easily? Edit: please DO NOT buy Deathbringer on Loki. Ever.
Early game for Loki isn't bad but it takes a bit for him to come online and start oneshotting so I like the sustain from the potions. DB is more of a for fun Item but definitely be used to great effect against a 3 squishy comp.
