Well Hello fellow smiters!
The new Guan Yu is a blast to play. After quite a few games with him I find him to be very build dependent compared to other gods. I've seen a lot of people struggle with a good build for him and couldn't find a complete guide on him here on smitefire so thought I would throw my first guide up! Feedback and contributions are definately welcome!
Guan is strong in many different roles, however this guide is more focused on his solo/ duo lane conquest bruiser build or is also the build I use in arena, Joust and domination.
Guan's build is partially Proactive and partially Reactive like most gods, but more so than most.
I usually start him
Painless (His Passive)
Conviction (His 1)
Warrior's Will (His 2)
Taolu Assault (His 3)
Cavalry Charge (His ult / 4)
if they don't have a stun (your 3 gets interrupted by stuns and silences - his biggest weakness)
then open with a 2 to get behind them and slow them. then while you body block them from running chew them up with your 3. pop your 1 for protections for 3s and a heal then continue to chase and close the kill if they continue to run. Your 2 should come back off cd and allow you to slow them again or gap close.
don't overlook the mana a cdr you also get from jotun's. your abilities will come up more often and you will have more mana to spend on your three. Don't OOM yourself by spamming your 1.
Your 3 can't crit. but you usually want to hit them with this before you start basic attacking because it steals a lot of their protections not only making you tankier for a short time but also allowing you to do a lot more dmg to that target with basic attacks.
His ult is good for a few things:
- open with ult when you gank or
- gank with your combo then chase/stun with your ult.
- ult to get out of a tough situation, will save your life but isn't an ideal use of ult.
